Hornets at Pelicans: Coach Charles Lee Postgame Media Availability | 11/4/2025

Coach, I know every single game right now with such young players is an opportunity for them to learn. You started the game with them, you ended the game with them. What do you hope they take away from this? Yeah, how do you finish games? I think that on the defensive end trying to figure out how do you just come up with a couple more stops. Um, you know, credit to New Orleans. Uh, I think Queen and Alvarado had a good second half there and put some pressure on our defense. And then I think offensively, how do you take care of the ball a little bit better? How do you execute a little bit better and and finish? So, uh, great learning opportunity and the road trip continues. Ryan Cochrunner really had his hands on everything tonight. What is the next step for him? Yeah, it’s just to keep doing it. Uh, you know, not get bored with the same um responsibilities that you have every night, which is to protect the paint and dominate the paint on both ends of the court. And I think that we’re seeing that from him defensively and then offensively too. He’s a great lob threat on the offensive glass, creating some extra possessions for us and his screen assists. So, just keep doing it. Keep doing it at a high level and be able to finish and win games. We saw Trey Man getting going tonight. His shot is starting to fall. How much will that open things up for you? Yeah, it definitely just helps us, I think, develop more depth. Uh, you know, being able to go to somebody off your bench to give you a little bit more pop at times, um, is always helpful. So, it’s good to see Trey have a good game. I wish he was in a in a winning effort. Thanks, coach. Thank you, Eric. Uh, just general thoughts on the game, what happened when you guys couldn’t find a way to kind of close this one out tonight? Yeah, you know, I think, uh, first half, I’d have loved to see that first quarter and just the first half, I guess, in general. uh our transition defense be a lot tighter. Uh gave up too many um lobs and dunks um in that first half where I think that like we can kind of control those buckets. You’re not going to control the the fact that they made a couple shots or um you know they were guys that maybe you’re you’re willing to live with some of their contested above the break threes. Uh but those buckets and and uh that execution uh defensively in transition is just not good enough. And I think it gave them a little bit of energy, you know, when you can kind of get out and get some easy buckets. And then I thought in the second quarter a lot better. Third quarter really good. And then in that fourth quarter, Alvarado and Queen I think just kind of came up with some big buckets down the stretch and we have to do a better job of taking care of the ball. I think eight turnovers in that fourth quarter uh which kind of hurt you and they made you pay. Yeah, one turnover was also uh I guess tried to get the ball and end there. What was that play trying to design to get the ball to Ryan? What happened when that play was? Yeah, I know. Try to get uh Colin coming back to his right hand. he’s got to release a little bit sooner, I think. But our execution could have been better, but um it’s a great learning experience, you know, for some of those guys that were out there at the end of the game that might not have the same reps that they’ve had, um other places or so far this year. So, it’ll be good for us to go back and watch the film and just see how we can tighten that up and be a little bit better executing. You mentioned learning experiences for the guys. I mean, obviously, as a coach, you’re going to win these games, but at some point, how do you balance learning experiences and losses with trying to win games and be a better team? Yeah, I think that um all the guys out there are competing their tails off and trying to win a game and build winning habits. And so I think that you can have the best of both worlds where you’re playing your young guys, letting them develop, but while also trying to win some of these games and

  1. He takes Tre Mann out for Sion down the stretch. Multiple chances to go offense for defense there and he just rode it out with Sion who wasn't hitting anything while Tre Mann scored 14 in the 2nd half. We didn't score another point from that sub on. I'm convinced he's setting them up for failure on purpose. He's done this twice this season and we blew 2 winnable games because of it.

  2. Started off moving the ball well and getting good shots and then slowly shifted towards iso ball. They were unconscious from 3 in the first half

  3. Bad coaching. Everything was done wrong with 6 minutes left. Playing sexton and mann together is no good. Should have let kj finish cause he wasn't turning it over. Why was Kalk behind the 3pt line in the 4th. Why did he not touch the ball in the post. Why is Moussa not starting. Alot wrong here. But coaching is not good.

  4. We shouldn't have lost this game. But I understand we're undermanned & Lee as well as the players are still learning. And that means everything from rotations to timeouts to players understanding where to be & what to do… we'll be okay, Rome wasn't built in a day.

  5. You’re not gonna win if you keep taking your point guard in and out of the game and in and out of the lineup. You’re barely playing him, he’s barely getting any shot attempts, especially in the fourth quarter where you subbed him out two times which is unheard of for any team. Then Each time you had a lead, you pulled him out of the game. Then with one minute left you take him out to bring in a rookie? How does that make any sense when you have an eighth year vet who can score at Will at all three levels that you have not shown any confidence in especially when you pay him 17 to 25 minutes and you’ve given him no time in the clutch when he’s good in the clutch? Then will you play him? These guys have no cohesion because they have never played together in fourth quarters cause you keep yanking him in and out of the lineups or barely playing him. It comes out to Charles Lee and him not using his best player.
