New York Islanders Postgame Availability | BOS 4 at NYI 3 (SO) (11/04/25)

No, I thought it was a pretty um hard-fought game by both teams. Um you know, obviously it’s disappointing not to come out the winning side of that. I thought we, you know, I thought we played pretty well to for you know, a full 60 minutes and, you know, maybe the first 10 wasn’t our best, but after we got going, I thought we played pretty well, had our chances, and um we just got to find a way to get it done. Emotions were pretty high. Uh guys going back and forth a physical game tonight. Yeah. No, they I mean that’s that’s the way they stay in games. I mean, that’s the way they uh, you know, they play and um, you know, I thought we matched that intensity pretty well tonight. You know, I thought um, you know, our physicality and, you know, the way we came at them, too. You know, we matched that pretty well and it was a hard fought game for you. I mean, obviously the puck’s going in the net. Is it a little bit of sweet though that you don’t get the two points, but you’re you’re on a hot streak right now. Yeah, I mean it’s um obviously would be a lot better if um you know I’m I’m happy to be obviously contributing offensively, but um you know winning is the most important thing in here and and not to get those two points um stings, but you know we we’re uh we’re happy to get one and and move on and we got another big one here Friday. How about the pass from Schaer coming out of Yeah, it was great. I mean it was a heads up play by him. Um, you know, I was hoping he would hit me and and you know, obviously, you know, when I have a full set of head of steam like that, um, happy to get that one and thankfully went in. How does it feel when you see uh your guys go after them? Yeah, I mean, we’re family in here. Um, I mean, I love these guys. Uh, I know they always have my back and I know I will always have their back. So, um, yeah, obviously it means a lot, but um, yeah, I mean, obviously we wish we could have got the win, but no, I love these guys in here. you still get a point. So, there has to be some competition. Yeah, I mean, you know, a point’s a point obviously. I mean, you’re never happy with a loss, though. So, um yeah, I mean, you know, a good way to look at it is um yeah, it’s good we got the point, but obviously, you know, you want to win at the end of the day. And uh I thought that was, you know, a great game by us. Obviously, there’s uh some calls that didn’t go our way. There’s some calls that went our way. Um I mean, I thought we battled. I thought, you know, Sroi played really good in the pipes there. Um and we battled hard and then uh you know, it came down to the shootout. So, um, like I said, I mean, I say this every night, but, um, we’ll learn from it and then we’ll, uh, we’ll move on. How about your pass coming out of the penalty box? Just take me through that play. Yeah, I mean, I think that just starts with the the PK there. I mean, they, uh, did an unreal job blocking shots. I mean, it’s a little nerve-wracking when you’re just standing in the box, can’t do much. So, um, yeah, I mean, when when guys are blocking shots, when Sro’s in that, just making big time saves, um, I mean, it’s, uh, definitely a confident booster for me and the team. And, uh, I mean, it was a big kill. And then we went out there and then I mean I didn’t do much. I kind of just gave it to Bo and Bo sniped it there. So uh um I mean that’s uh the PK B. Your thoughts on this uh back and forth game? Yeah, I mean it’s uh high, you know, intense emotional game. Um you know, they play a hard game. Um you know, they’re a good team on the other side and um you know, they didn’t give up. You know, they were up and um yeah, I mean they they just got the best of us in the show out there. What was the emotions like especially after Matthew got hit there? Yeah, I just caught the end of it there. Um I just see, you know, Big Z, you know, tiring over him. So, um, you know, obviously you want to protect your teammate, especially Sha. So, um, you know, we we have each other’s backs in this locker room. We’re all brothers in here and, um, you know, we’re going to do whatever it takes to, you know, protect protect each other. Does it feel like teams are trying to, um, I guess, be a little extra physical with him right now? I mean, just no different than any other star player. you know, you want to slow down, you know, the best players on each team, and we do the same with their star players, whoever we’re playing against. So, obviously, um, you know, Sha coming in this league, uh, the way he’s playing, obviously, teams are going to look at that and and try to slow him down. So, I think, uh, for us, uh, you know, it’s doing our best to to protect him out there and, uh, let him do his thing. Overall, you know, I know it’s frustrating to to lose a lead. What did you think of the game? Well, the first was quick. probably three three uh three whistles. I think both teams were kind of clogging it up pretty good and then uh from there it was a pretty good hockey game. Um I thought the battle level on both sides was was there and just kind of up and down a little bit. Had to really fight for what we got and and they had to fight for what they got. Um you know comes down to overtime in a shootout but um you know I think we overall it was pretty solid hockey game. um we keep that that last one out and it’s a little bit of a different story, but overall um take the positives from this one and continue to build on it. What what what do you see when you know when when Zidara is is hitting him a couple of times there? I kind of caught the end cuz I I ended up getting the puck. Um caught the end. Saw, you know, big man on a on our guy there and, you know, just one of those situations. go in there and and um have his back. Is it tough, you know, the way you guys play tonight just to get the one point? Look, I mean, you’re going to have you’re going to have nights where you play good hockey game and and you come up short. Um and that tonight may be one of those, but uh you know, I think there’s a there’s a lot of good in that hockey game. I think we we did a lot of good things and um you know clean up clean up a couple things defensively and um bury our chances. Kind of the same story you hear uh after you know I thought both teams played a solid game. How about the way Bo is burying it? No, he’s got a he’s got a hot stick and and you know he’s he uh he has that ability for himself to create a shot on his own and and he can rip it and those were some some big goals tonight for us. Great play from Bars on the first one and then uh Bo finding finding the lane through a guy is uh what he does. Uh when he’s rolling like that, it’s huge for our team and he had a great game tonight. Patrick, in a in a back and forth game, do you feel like you you should have got two points tonight? I like the way we played. Um first period was a boring period. I mean, not much going on, but I thought the second was really exciting. A lot of chances on on both side obviously. I mean, they had three power play. They scored on on one of them, but um you know in the third I thought that we had our chances to you know to take a twogoal lead and either the goalie made the a good save or just missed the net on on on some but no to me it was a hardfought game. A game that could have gone either way and I thought we played well enough to win. Absolutely. It was a very physical game especially uh did you have any thoughts on Matthew getting hit there? Well, I mean, um, it was kind of, um, on that play, I felt like the referee had a lot of choices. Could call cross check, could have called roughing, could have called, um, interference. I mean, pretty much, I mean, might able to have a 4-minute power play, isn’t it? But I love how jumped in. I mean, the reaction of our guys, I mean, that’s what you’re looking for and and we’re they’re a tight group. I mean, they they back each other and that I would say I’m proud of them for that. Just how do you think Matthew stands up to that? I mean, he was sort of in the middle of the fray. Well, eventually he’s going to have the same protection that the star players, isn’t it? Mhm. How How long does that take to happen in in your in your experience? I hope not too long. Um, also it seemed like a second really strong outing for Ilia Sroken. What What are you seeing from his game right now? I feel like he’s aggressive out there. He challenged the shooters and and it was bad luck. I mean, the first goal, I think, hit our our skate and went in. And then the second one was a beautiful play by them. But, um, yeah, he was really good. Made some really good saves. I mean, uh, at the time we need it. And um I’m happy for him because he seems to play with a lot of confidence right now, which is good. I mean, that’s what you want as a goalie. Play with confidence and challenge and top of the crease. And Sergey’s been doing a really good job with him. I guess on a similar note, just what what did you like about the way your your defense played? It seemed like they weren’t getting much for uh for most of that game. Yeah, we didn’t give that many. I mean they have after two period I thought we had we gave them only four scoring chance five on five but um their power play they have a good power play they move the puck very well they had a few good chances in in in in those uh in the second uh because of it but other than this I thought we did a nice job and uh um we gap up well um I thought we broke break out the puck very well um overall I mean I I thought we defended pretty well as well so pleased with the performance of our guys. When when Schaefer comes out of the box there, I think most guys probably dump that puck in. Just what does it say about his IQ level that he that he sees Horvette coming in and waits and makes that play there? Yeah, I mean it’s impressive. I mean, not just that play, but you know, like at the end he almost scored in overtime. I mean, he carried the puck. It’s it’s the energy that he has also. It’s it’s it’s impressive. I mean, you know, you feel like, okay, is he going to be tired? And it seems like he he always have that second or third gear that that keeps him I mean moving and skating. I mean it’s it’s it’s pretty impressive. I mean to see a play a young guy like him the way he’s playing. I mean been able to create offense and and also the way that he’s been defending. I mean he’s so quick jumping on those loose pucks and even on the Done coverage. I mean he close on their guys so fast that they they have a hard time to generate. So, and he breaks out a lot by himself and when he can’t, he flip it out, which is sometimes it’s the best best play to to make. And with Duca, I mean, you mentioned him stepping up for Schaefer there, but the goal that he gets, I mean, just how important is it for him even if he’s playing maybe limited minutes? Well, you saw yesterday after practice, he stay longer and he cares and he he wants to do well and and I was happy to see him be rewarded for for that goal. I mean, it was a nice faceoff win by Casey, but I mean, um, no, I was pleased with the way he’s been playing and also his attitude, how he he handles those things. I mean very happy, very proud of
