Something STRANGE is going on… – MULTIPLE Spurs injury updates
Something strange is going on in San Antonio as the most recent injury report has been revealed and De’aran Fox’s name is highlighted on it. But not just him. Jeremy Sohan and even newly acquired Kelly Olen are both there with multiple status updates. A lot of fans are questioning not only De’aran Fox’s status, but some of the other names as well. We’re going to dive into all of this coming up in this episode. And we’re going to start here. So here’s ultimately what we have. So De’aran Fox and Luke Cornet remain out versus the Lakers. Dylan Harper remains out with a calf strain. Kelly Olen, Lindy Waters, and Jeremy Sohan will be evaluated after practice today and or shoot around tomorrow for their potential season debut. So, they are game time decisions. And we’re going to dive into De’aran Fox in just a bit because fans are very very frustrated with this situation. And look, I’m I’m getting frustrated a bit too, but at the end of the day, let him heal. Luke Cornett is another interesting one. Like I think that was one of those that just kind of flew under the radar of like we didn’t really notice how bad it was in the moment and all of a sudden it’s like wow he’s missing a number of games and there’s been a lot of discussion about those center minutes which again has fans including myself a bit like come on like I can’t wait I’m chomping at the bit just waiting to get some of those big men back. But one of the pieces of good news here is Kelly Oolen, who we’ve been saying we didn’t really know the timeline, but he might be ready to go. And again, on his career, 800 games in the NBA, 37% from three on his career, averaging 105 and 2 and a half. Kelly Olen can pass. He’s a big enough body, 611, 240, and he can shoot the pill. He can He’s a great shooter. He’s had some seasons right there around 40% from three. But the big reason this is good is because, you know, even if Cornet is not coming back, we’ll at least get some looks with Kelly Oolen on the floor with WBY off. And I’m going to show you some stats as to why this is again such a big piece of good news. Like, yeah, I think we obviously understand that adding a legit NBA caliber center who can shoot threes. It’s never a bad thing when you’re talking about your rotation. But let’s just look at some numbers here. So, I used uh I use a website and I’ll link it down below where you guys can go check this as well to find out some onoff statistics. I think it’s called NBA Stat Lab, something similar. These are the stats with Wemi off the floor and Byombo on the floor. And you can see the total amount of minutes for these players. I didn’t take everyone, I just took a handful of players. By net rating 30.9, Dylan Harper – 26.7. Velus 51. Kell – 56. Harrison Burns – 58. Look at the defensive ratings in just this small sample when We WBY is off the floor and Byombo is on the floor. Now, some of this is a little bit skewed because of a small sample and I’m absolutely going to acknowledge that, but it does pass the eye test because we’ve been saying for ages those minutes when Wemi is not on the floor and Bybo is, they have been some minutes that the Spurs have mightily struggled. Then while the offensive rating is not bad, 122, 130, like you still wish it may be a little bit higher, the defensive rating is is astonishing. Like really bad. Like the highest of these guys here, or the best I should say, is Stefan Castle 144. Harrison Barnes in 17 minutes with WBY off and B and Bumblebo on the floor. 192 defensive rating. That’s how many points you’re giving up per 100 possessions basically with WBY off and be on. And what if we flip this? Webby on and just WBY on the floor in general. Those defensive rating numbers again a much larger sample size. So this is victim a little bit. Just some smaller sample but you can see the positive net ratings across the board. Devin Vel while he’s on the floor with WBY 29 net rating 92 defensive rating when WebMB is on the floor for de Devin Vel. Webby out there 203 minutes 99.88 defensive rating. So, the San Antonio Spurs clearly need extra big man minutes and Kelly Oolen can help provide that at least until Lu Cornet gets back when Kelly can transition more to maybe a power forward. I I don’t know if we’re going to run some kind of double big lineup with Oolen and Webby or Oolen and Cornette. I think it could work though. I’m not super I’m not super in love with the idea of Kelly Oolen playing a lot of the a lot of the four because I don’t think he can really guard other fours. But anyway, that’s one piece of news. But also the other big piece of news here, Jeremy Sohan, the fact that he’s now a game time decision along with Oolen, we’re getting that boost to the roster that we needed. Now, I know a lot of us when Dylan Harper went down, we were so excited to see when is Darren Fox coming back. Not yet. But right now, Jeremy So coming back is huge as well because this is a big season for him, right? We didn’t extend him before the deadline. He’ll be heading into next summer as a restricted free agent, which means other teams can offer sheet him. And I also love looking at his middle name there. Julius is so such a a Polish name, but it’s cool. Obviously, it’s a Polish name. He’s Polish, but anyway, still uh he plays for the Poland national team. Still really cool to see him back in the lineup. And again, we we go to these minutes, it’s like Jeremy Sen’s had some experience playing center. We’ve even ran lineups where Harrison Barnes or Kell Johnson were the deacto center. You pick one or the other. They were the two biggest guys on the floor for the Spurs. So, having some big names, right? Kelly Olen, Jeremy Sohan for the defense as well. When We Wi is off the floor, I think it’s going to be more valuable because Kelly is not known to be a defender. Of course, Sohan is, but So’s not really a center where Kelly Oolen is. Hopefully, they can help balance some of those minutes at the very least when We WBY is not on. And I’m very excited to see what they can do. But the big thing here that’s a little strange is the update on De’arren Fox. And look, we’ve been waiting, waiting, waiting for Fox to come back. 21 and a half points a game on his career, of course, 33% from three, but he’s had some really good seasons. I always say it. He has a season shooting 38% from three on eight attempts a game. He can be a good shooter, especially now that his pinky is fixed or at least had surgery on it. He said it’s never going to be straight again. It is what it is. But De’Aran Fox is some is a player that’s really going to change how this team looks. Is that the understatement of the century? Probably. Maybe not the century, but with Dylan Harper out, there is a need at that point guard position, right? Stefan Castle has had his struggles trying to man that true playmaking role as a point guard. So, we’ll see how that fares, but right now, we really want Fox back. And with this injury update, a lot of people were assuming like there was this thing going around today. Oh, ESPN didn’t have De’arren Fox in the injury report, but they just did that. Those screenshots that were going around didn’t scroll down. Fox has never changed from game time decision on ESPN. He was still listed as injured. Anyway, you just got to click for the full image and it shows you. Anyway, regardless, I I did not get my hopes up for Fox to come back this next game, but I do understand the frustration because look, like this goes back to July 27th when we first caught wind. I believe this is the same injury. And if it’s not, please correct me and I cuz I don’t I don’t want to give wrong information. But we did hear, right? Fox missed a certain thing this off seasonason with the Curry brand. He was dealing with a muscle strain. Injury isn’t severe. Shouldn’t impact his availability this season. And he was of course rehabbing that pinky as well. You know, at the end of the day, he still is doing 5v5 work. We’ve seen it. But even September 29th, he said he doesn’t think he will be ready for the Spurs opening game night versus the Mavs. He’s dealing with a right hamstring injury on top of receiving surgery for his pinky. The Spurs are already dealing with rookie guard Dylan Harper trying to be ready for opening night. So, we knew this a as as early as the end of December, September, that Fox probably wasn’t going to be ready for opening night. But, we’re talking now, like we’re talking months a hamstring injury. And what I will say is that I am actually, maybe this is a hot take, maybe you guys won’t agree. I am glad that we’re not rushing him because this Spurs team is at the beginning of something big. I understand Fox is on a max contract. I understand you want to maximize Victor Webinaba’s potential, but there the worst thing I think you could do is rush a guy back from injury just for him to get hurt again. It’s been a it’s a tale as old as time across the NBA, across many sports. The medical staff is like, you know what, go out there. Look at Anthony Davis in Dallas. And I I don’t mean to keep picking on Dallas because they’ve had some Anyway, very interesting things. Some bad luck, some good luck, some crazy decisions. It’s nuts. But Anthony Davis, like you could argue, was rushed back and then he left a game recently. And like these guys who are not fully healed coming back and playing, it just gives you a bigger risk. You might as well make absolute sure, give 100% certainty or as close as you can that he’s healthy before coming back. So I’m on the train of like it’s okay that we’re waiting. Like I understand we’re going to have a few games at least of a pretty rough point guard spot where it’s going to be Stfan Castle and Jordan Mclofflin holding it down which is fine especially now that we’re getting Sohan and Olen back but I’m excited again in a few weeks to get Harper back. It could be anywhere from two to four or one I don’t know at this point there’s been some conflicting reports. I’d say between one and three weeks three weeks at the high end and I’d be okay with that. Fox, who knows? It could be another week or two and this has been going on a while. Obviously, the Fox injury is something that we’re trying to keep tabs on every day, but he’s still game time decision until the day before, right? That’s the good news, right? Today though, we see Oolen and Sohan, they’re staying game time decisions. Fox, if you look at off days, is a game time decision. He’s working 5v5. He’s working with all the guys. There should be no real rust. And I’m very excited to get him back. So, even though there’s been some strange reporting that, oh, he might be healthy for this. Oh, the Spurs posted him in the Fiesta colored the Fiesta jersey thing, which by the way, I’m pumped. The Fiesta jerseys are back. There’s all these little things going out there. The end of the day, I’m happy that we’re waiting for him to be 100%. As frustrating as it can be, I think it’s all right. But listen, I’d love to hear your guys thoughts down below. I want Fox back soon, but I'm ok with making sure he's FULLY healed, even if it takes a LONG time. Do you agree?
God must hate the Spurs because all of our players are injured
Someone’s dropping the ball right now man 🤦🏻♂️
Fox is going to play vs lakers
The begining of the season doesnt worry me much. We need to catch fire during the Rodeo Roadtrip and after. Gotta close out the season strong and catch that 6th seed.
Bism1ck is a 4 not a center or maybe a small ball center
Spurs FO continue to lie/hide injuries, etc. The two biggest examples is the Joshua Primo situation and Pop's "death" on November 2, 2024 (one year ago this week).
If Kornet continues to be on the IRL, then the Spurs will revert back to their bad defense when Wemby is on the bench.
I'm (regretfully) resigned to Sochan leaving the Spurs either at the trade deadline or in a sign 'n trade next offseason. Fox taking that max did not bode well for keeping Sochan.
Spurs have always been overly protective of their players, annoyingly so sometimes. As a Spurs fan it has come to be expected but I swear, sometimes it feels like a guy gets a paper cut and Spurs will keep him out for a month as a "deep laceration". 🤣
We need sochan versus luka
I hope they try Olynyk, sochan, and Bryant when wemby rest. We really took a hit when Harper goes down but as long as wemby still there, we still got the chance for playoffs.
Need those sick bay commandos to start playing. When did kornet "sprain" his ankle, or sochan hurt his hand.? Guy hasn't been on court for months. And didn't even know olynk was hurt. Been a whole summer , what are these guys doing? start earning your checks. Now Harper takes a hop and he's out for weeks. Did they go to Anthony Davis training camp?
Its time for sochan at point guard🔥🔥
Just discovered your channel. Very nice !!!
harmstring injuries are famously long to recover from. It's the worse muscle to tear
Fox and Kornet still out? Yeah, expect another loss. I’m okay with that as long as no one gets injured anymore. They might lose their 2nd seed tho. And November is a gauntlet. The competition is about to be tougher and if Fox, Kornet, and Sochan continues to be out, it’s going to be rough.
They said during media day that Fox’s hamstring injury was minor. He injured that hamstring during a summer work-out. It was around the time UnderArmor was supposed to go in their Asia tour. UA made an announcement that Fox wasn’t joining them on July 8. It’s about to be 4 months this week since that announcement. If it’s not healed until now, it might be more serious than they’re letting on.
I want to see Barnes move to the three and Olynik start at the four. Fox, Vassel, Barnes, Olynik, and Wemby have experience, excellent shooting, and present real matchup problems. Defense might be an issue, but I’d like to at least see that lineup.
Isma k is detrimental to the team. He’s got to go.
They just need Sochan to come back so he can guard Luka. They don’t need him to play C because they tried that last season and it was not great.
Harper is going to be re-evaluated on Nov. 18 accdg to CBS. That is not a guarantee that he will come back. He had a grade 1 calf strain afaik. Knowing the Spurs, they are going to be very conservative with this especially since he’s a rookie. He had been real good for the team but they’re not going to risk his career and health. Calf strains can turn into an Achilles injury real quick.
You need the Vic + Luka team up 💯
What are odds Fox is out for Friday? Decent right. I got tix and I feel like with the mounting injuries we have a punchers chance against surging rockets.
We need fox back because harper is out…😔😔
It’s a long season
Fox got hurt in July! They are being overly cautious.I understand cautious but come on
You didn't link the website like you said you were. Why not just be transparent and show it on the screen?
Back to tanking lmfao
It's annoying to see so many injured players sitting on the sidelines.
Hammy linger like no other, I'm cool with him sitting until he's absolutely 100%. The season is long
Remember Spurs was the Grand daddy of Load Management..
Kornet has a sprained ankle it's about a 2 week heal time so he should be back soon. It's a long season and there's no reason to rush them back and risk losing them again
