You can tell the Canucks were furious with that call. Hughes went over to talk to him with the “fake spear”. Evangelista just put a target on his back for players and refs.

I am on the absolutely hate Evander Kane and despise him as a person camp… but yeah that was a BS call and the refs are doing their best it seems this year to erode the integrity and credibility of the league.
I can understand some of the “whiplash” reactions in the league. Sometimes a stick comes up in a players peripheral vision and I think the natural human reaction is move their head out of the way quickly. It’s easy as a viewer to be like “hey, you didn’t even get touched”.
This one is completely different, he created the contact. Ducked his head towards Kane’s hand/stick. Grabbed his face and crumbled to the ice like a bitch. There is no place for that in hockey.
Genuine question, can a player be penalized for embellishment if there is no other penalty committed? Or is it called as another penalty, like unsportsmanlike conduct?
