Atlanta Falcons Make A SURPRISING Roster Move After NFL Trade Deadline | Falcons News
All right, Dirty Birds fans, let’s uh let’s talk. We’ve got some interesting news to break down here on today’s episode of Falcons Today by Chat Sports. My name is Moose coming to you uh on one of my off days, believe it or not. It’s a weird week with the trade deadline this week. So, a couple of guys in the office have some off days. Couple of guys are working throughout the week. Uh I’ll be in on Friday, so I got Wednesday off. It’s just a weird wonky week for everybody. But here’s why you subscribe. I’m going to break down instant thoughts and analysis around the Atlanta Falcons 365 days a year and specifically during football season. They’re really is no off time. So, hit that subscribe button right now. Like today’s video and then answer a quick question for me. Are you upset that the Atlanta Falcons did not make a move at the trade deadline? I’m going to make that the pinned comment of today’s video. I want to hear from you guys where you stand on not making any moves during the trade deadline. Now, that doesn’t mean the Falcons haven’t made any moves whatsoever. They signed Zayen Gonzalez. They released Parker Romo and most recently have waved Taco Graham. He is now released by the Atlanta Falcons, which to me is even more crazy considering you probably could have shopped him for at least a seventh round pick, maybe a pick swap in the seventh round. Either way, you could have gotten something for him. So, to release a player right after the trade deadline to me is just kind of wild. Um, I know he wasn’t doing much this season, but at the same time with a lack of defensive line help, especially in the run stopping area, uh, the Falcons right now can use all of the bodies that they can get. So, seeing a player released that was on the defensive line specifically, you know, not even 24 hours after the trade deadline is passed is just kind of wicked. Kind of wicked to me. So, let’s talk about the news because that’s not what I’m talking about. At least that’s part of the news that I want to talk about. So, Tquan Graham has been released. Uh, but more specifically, I want to focus on a little bit of the matchup this coming Sunday in Germany. The Falcons are currently over in Berlin getting ready to take on the uh number one seated Indianapolis Colts. And the first thing that I want to bring up is the most recent moves that the Indianapolis Colts made, which was getting Sauce Gardner. And according to Shane Stiken, head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, if Gardner passes concussion protocol, he will play this Sunday. So, you can expect that if all things go well for the Colts, you will see Sauce uh suit up against Drake London this coming Saturday or excuse me, Sunday. And you know, look, we we could go back and forth about was this the right move that the Indianapolis Colts made. This isn’t a Colts channel, so I’m not here to break down what this means for the Colts. I specifically think that two first round picks for a quarterback is outrageous. It’s outlandish. And frankly, giving a first up for Sauce Gardner in any case is kind of nuts. But that’s uh for the Colts or the future Colts host of Colts now or Colts today, whatever we decide to to call it, that’s for them to decide. I want to focus on the Falcons because now if S Gardner does play, he goes one-on-one with Drake London. Now, you might look at that and go, “Okay, well, Drake London went up against Christian Gonzalez last week, did fine, caught three touchdowns, did more than fine, did really, really well.” But um I I think it’s more important to recognize that the Falcons still have a major issue right now. And that issue is a lack of a solidified solid number two behind Drake London. I don’t think Darnell Mooney at this point is a reliable solid number two. Specifically, not in this case where he’s in right now with the injury still trying to ramp up to 100%. He’s more like a really good three. He’d probably be one of the top end threes in the league. And here’s something that’s interesting. And because I don’t have my uh because I don’t have my usual setup, I want to specifically highlight this because I thought this stat was very telling for the Atlanta Falcons. How grim, and this is from our friends over at the Falcoholic. How grim is the receiving core outside of Drake London? Between Darnell Mooney, Casey Washington, David Sills, Ray Ray Mloud, and Cadrell Hodgej, the other five wide receivers for the Atlanta Falcons, they’ve got 30 catches for 385 yards, no touchdowns between five receivers. Drake London himself, 47 catches, 587 yards, and five touchdowns. This doesn’t take a genius to figure out that you need some more wide receiver help. Now, maybe Terry Fontnau has a plan to go after some really luxurious and amazing free agents, but here’s another problem that you got. You still got that Kirk Cousins contract on the books and you’re probably not going to release him until post June 1st. Well, we all know that NFL free agency is the first week of March. How much available cap space are you going to have? So now the trade deadline feels even more I I don’t want to say detrimental because that’s not the right word, but I want to say it feels even more of like a question mark that was up in the air. And I know there were a lot of fans that got got down to the comments saying, “We didn’t have anything to give up. We don’t have any draft picks.” Well, you have players that you could give up. You don’t have to go out and get rid of a wide receiver, but you have Arnold Deati that was primed. And according to ESPN, Atlanta fielded calls about him. You can go take a look, go look up that that article. ESPN said the Atlanta Falcons took calls on Arnold Katy and they felt like they didn’t want to move him. So either one, the price tag wasn’t good enough, or two, Terry Fontnau just believes every single player on this team right now is contributing to the success of the team being at three and five. So now Drake London goes up against Sauce and it’ll be Darnell Mooney and Kyle Pittz and a plethora of other players that really aren’t weapons for Michael Penn Jr. Luckily you have Bejon Robinson that lines up in the slot and has been an unbelievable second option for Michael Penn Jr. But come on, that we we we need another true dominant wide receiver. You don’t have to go out and get a number one. You don’t have to go out and trade the farm for a number one. Could you have gotten another wide receiver? Could you have gotten another body? The answer is yes. Terry Fontnau chose not to do anything at the trade deadline. The second thing that I want to bring up specifically with the Colts is now you go up against the best running back in the league, or at least he’s playing like it right now. Let’s make sure that gets back to There we go. Jonathan Taylor’s having an MVP- like season. So now the issue is you’ve got a defense that is good against the pass, much better with their pass rush, but can’t stop the run. But what do you think Shane Stiken is going to cook up against the Atlanta Falcons? Doesn’t take a genius to figure out that it’s going to be Jonathan Taylor, Jonathan Taylor, and more Jonathan Taylor. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets 30 plus carries. I really wouldn’t because nobody’s been able to stop him. And do you think the Falcons with that defensive line, that run stopping is going to stop Jonathan Taylor? I mean, we’re we’re fooling ourselves if that’s the case. So now, and and I I don’t want this to be taken the wrong way. I’m still going to root for the Atlanta Falcons. I’m still going to put on my Falcons gear on Sunday, come in early, deliver an awesome watch party for you guys, and root on this team, my team. But we have to be honest and open about what this team is, a dysfunctional organization that is not serious about getting better. Because a team that is serious about getting better will look to their future and at the current state of their team at this very moment and they will say something isn’t clicking. So either you get rid of a coach, you make a trade, you trade a player away. I mean, there I’m listing three different things, but no, the Falcons seem to think that getting rid of kickers, which granted I I do understand at least to some degree, and getting rid of backup rotational defensive lineman is the solution. It’s not. It’s not. Those are not the only solutions. You have to start thinking from a structure perspective on where this team is heading in the future. And I said yesterday, I don’t think Terry Fontnau is planning for the future. I think he’s taking every single day day by day. And while that might be okay for a team that is rebuilding like the Jets or the Titans or hell, now it looks like the Cardinals are pivoting off of Kyler Murray. There’s a lot of different organizations that can take it day by day. The Falcons have way too much talent on this roster currently to just take it day by day. You’ve got to take some swings. You’ve got to be aggressive. There was no aggression yesterday. There has been no aggression in the last couple of weeks. In fact, the biggest move that you’ve made this entire season is firing Ichilliard and then releasing Ray Ray. There’s there’s not much to break down if you just say it out loud. The Falcons biggest move this season was getting rid of their wide receivers coach and they’re at three and five. Now, that might work. You might be able to get rid of your wide receivers’s coach if you’re currently sitting at six and two or six and three or seven and two. You might be able to make a little pivot here and there, a little tweak here and there because ultimately you think that, hey, the roster is good enough to continue to win games in a sustainable manner. But how Roseman of the Eagles, they won the Super Bowl last year. He’s making he’s made like eight trades since the beginning of the 2025 season. So what are we doing? What are we doing? So the new issues that the Falcons are facing now is one, you’re going up against probably S Gardner on Sunday. Jonathan Taylor is going to pose his own threat and you’re also missing some injuries now and and some possible offensive linemen are not going to be available as well. So now a non-mobile Michael Pennix Jr. is without possibly some starting offensive lineman. It’s just a non winning scenario. And of course, like I said, it is my job not only to cover this team, but to be passionate and enthusiastic about this team, but it’s also to be honest about this team. And the honesty is, like I said yesterday, and I will continue to echo this sentiment. Maybe I’ll get a t-shirt with it on. The Falcons are not serious about getting better. They continue to make the same mistakes over and over again expecting different results. That is the definition in the dictionary of insanity. A reminder to hit that subscribe button, like the video. I’ll be back tomorrow with some more breakdowns. I’ll be back in studio tomorrow, so you’ll get the full graphic displays and graphic effects. But uh until next time, rise up Dirty Birds fans and be
Atlanta Falcons news after the NFL trade deadline doesn’t feel like good news for Falcons Fans on this episode of Falcons Today by Chat Sports. Falcons host Trace Moustakas explains why the move to release Ta’Quon Graham feels even more ridiculous after not making a singular trade at the NFL trade deadline. Moose claims that Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot is taking his duties as Falcons general manager “day-by-day” which is dangerous considering he’s not thinking about the future of the 2025 Atlanta Falcons. Moose notes that new challenges in NFL week 10 will arise, because of the NFL block buster trade for Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts, who the Falcons play this week. Moose also claims that going up against Jonathan Taylor will present its own challenge as he’s been playing like the NFL MVP.

Are you upset about Terry Fontenot not making a move at the NFL trade deadline?
I would have liked them to sell a couple to acquire some picks
The only thing the falcons can do right now is fire zac Robinson. There's almost no chance he turns this offense around. Beyond that it's just a development year. Missing McGary is proving to be a huge problem and offensive play design is 2D at best. Also if they took calls and didn't see a opportunity worth giving up Ebiketes added depth then so be it. That's not something to get upset with the GM about. He did a great job turning around this defense in one year. Shut up about being mad at him. You sound ignorant asf
Play nick Nash idk what they are thinking
Glad i got Taylor on my fantasy league 😆
They will just use a "designated as a June 1st" cut on Kirk. So they can still spread out the money, cut him and have cap room for free agency.
They pushed all there chips in on penix and this squad they gonna play this thing out till end of the season
Yes we should’ve added draft picks
I 1000% agree but we are not losing 4 straight
I look at trades as if your pushing for something , you bring in help. I don’t see even tom Brady getting this unit to the post season so . We could have been sellers but that would almost say your in rebuild . I don’t want to believe we’re rebuilding so we’re right in the middle where teams stay put an ride it out im happy #17 is finishing this season before we make a final decision.
I cant see any moves being good ones without a
1st rounder. Only selling. Maybe pitts and ebekeiti or harrison but we need value. Good news tho billy bowman is back jd may not play in berlin thank goodness. London about to do the same to sauce that he did to CG
Fired the coach staff
How tf we release Graham
I've watched film on all 10 3rd down failures
Some were Penix fault not seeing receiver running wide open
Others were play calling
Bottom line is Rich McKay is every comfortable with mediocrity
Make no mistakes about it McKay is the problem
I JUST WISH THEY WOULD CONCENTRATE ON THE COACHING if other fans as myself could see i believe in 2nd chances but DAM come on somebody wakeup. Ab has got to see this if he really cares he owns one of the biggest chains in the world why can't he see this he has the players but he has a family for coaches wakeup this is 2 different things someone needs to build a fire under there ass not take them out for ice-cream
I didn't expect them to make any moves. Were low on draft capital as is and outside of pitts and AK, we didnt really have anyone to trade. Kind of Shocked about graham. He was great in preseason and had good size for his speed.
Let’s give this time to gel,
I think he knows he's getting fired at the end of the year you don't get to pick 3 coaches with a losing record
This is looking really rough. Falcons have to go 6-3 the rest of the season just to get to 9-8. Jeez, I see 7-10. That's going 4-5 next 9 games. Very unfortunate Falcons don't have a first rd pick next year. This is brutal.
I say this as a Falcons fan they are not interested in winning but entertainment. We have gone through multiple coaches, players, etc. but as long as Richmond Makhai is there, he will continue the course. I believe once Rich Makhai leaves for someone who is serious about women we may have that.
We're going to get boat raced Sunday. They're going to double Drake and run the ball down our throat all day.
Falcons= chiken beheaded.
Not making any moves to get draft picks is ridiculous
I truly love the Atlanta FALCONS team but I hope they lose to the COLTS because I truly can't wait to they fire RAHEEM MORRIS AND HIS COACHING STAFF I AM SO TIRED OF THIS ORGANIZATION WITH THIS HORRIBLE COACHING STAFF AND PLEASE ARUTHER BLANKS FIRE 🔥 RICH MCKAY BECAUSE HE IS CANCER TO THIS ORGANIZATION FACTS .
Moose we have no assets to trade…getting 7th round pics do nothing…we are who we are rn and we have to accept that
They better feed Kyle Pitts vs. the colts
