Yankees Make MULTIPLE Moves – This has SERIOUS Implications…
The New York Yankees have made multiple moves that are going to have an impact on free agency going forwards for this team as the Yankees made some tough decisions that are absolutely perfect going forwards. While also we do have an update on Cody Bellinger as well. So, you’re going to want to stick around to the end of this video so you do not miss out on that. There’s a lot to go over on the New York Yankees right now and we’re going to waste no time jumping right into things as always guys. But real quick, if you are part of that percentage that’s not subscribed to Yankees Digest, make sure to go ahead and subscribe so you don’t miss a single update if you’re part of that 71%. There’s a ton of Yankees news coming out as it is officially the offseason and the Yankees have some tough decisions to make and we’ve already seen them start. So if you don’t want to miss an update, this is the place to be. But let’s jump right into it because guys, Brian Kman has been active recently. The New York Yankees GM has made some tough decisions already as the Yankees are gearing up for free agency for this off season, but also right now they have that exclusive negotiation window with some of their own talent while also deciding who’s staying and who’s going. And we have multiple updates on that. The first one being that the New York Yankees are picking up Tim Hill’s $3 million club option. So, we see the New York Yankees bring back Tim Hill. Now, here’s the thing with Tim Hill. He is a very very talented left-handed pitcher that the Yankees have loved since acquiring him a couple years ago in 2024 from none other than the Chicago White Sox who were terrible. The Yankees brought in Hill who was a staple in their playoff run to to the World Series in 2024. He had a 3.09 RA last season in 70 games that he appeared in. He’s not a strikeout guy. Only 37 strikeouts in his 67 innings pitched. And but his whip was good, a 1.104 whip. And here’s the thing, he is a groundout pitcher. He gets guys out, but it’s not through the strikeouts. So, with a guy like Tim Hill, the number one thing is to just continue to set him up against lefties where he absolutely deals. He’s got an awkward throwing style, but it does not matter. Tim Hill is one of the Yankees best relief pitchers. He’s one of their best bullpen arms, and the Yankees ultimately will be keeping Hill on, which fans should across the board be happy about. Again, Hill is a superior talent to a lot of the guys in this Yankees bullpen right now, and I wanted to see Tim Hill return to this team. It was such an obvious move to have another lefty. Now the Yankees right now, Hill is their only lefty in the bullpen. They should, if I were them, definitely go after Ryan Yarro. Once again, try to keep around Yarro. Then you have two lefties. If you want to add a third one, you can. But you do have your two lefty arms who are both very reliable guys and serve very different purposes because Yarro is kind of that swingman role who can go three, four innings if you absolutely need him to. Meanwhile, Tim Hill can go two to three innings as well. But Moore is a guy who is going to get you two or three very important outs and also in a pinch could close the game out as well. So there’s a lot to like about Tim Hill. Of course I’m a huge fan of Tim Hill and the numbers show it. This is a great move. But on top of that, the Yankees also did make another move as well as they did also, it was announced by Jorge Castillo that the Yankees are not picking up Jonathan Loisa’s $5 million club option for the 2026 season. So on top of the Yankees bringing back Tim Hill. They’ve ultimately decided to move on from Jonathan Loisa as well. Now Loisa, he was not good last season. He’s been a solid player with the Yankees for a lot of the time when he’s been able to be healthy, but the health has been very few and far between. The once top prospect did not have a good year this year, putting up a 4.25 RA out of the pen. Did grab a save, pitched only 29 innings because of injury concerns that that have really plagued his career. He had 25 strikeouts and his whip was not good. A 1.43 whip is not good. It means you’re allowing 1.4 guys on base printing. So, you don’t want to see that whatsoever. It’s just not a great performance from Jonathan Lawaza, who the Yankees will let walk. There will be a team that will pick up Laza. I mean, the man can throw the ball very, very hard, and he does pose some upside as a strikeout guy, but he’s getting a little bit older. He’s no longer that super young guy with the Yankees who it felt like was going to have a really, really important role for a very long time with them. The injuries threw everything off and because of that, the Yankees will now be moving on from Loisa, who was a very nice talent for the team once upon a time, but not anymore. Now, the Yankees, it’s imperative that their bullpen gets better. In the playoffs, they had the second worst bullpen of any team, having a 6.15 RA out of your pen. You’re just not going to win with that. You’re not going to be able to have some long-term success. And I understand that the Toronto Blue Jays are right below them and right there with a 4.44, the third worst RA, but the 6.15 and a 4.44 44 is so so so different. And the Yankees who love to rely on their bullpen and also having a general manager in Brian Kman who we know wants to have a strong bullpen. We know the Yankees are going to attack that bullpen ruthlessly throughout this offseason. And I want to see them do that. I mean you have David Bednar, you have Camilo Dval, but I do want to see them make other moves as well moving forwards for this bullpen, but also they have other things to do in free agency. For instance, Cody Bellinger’s free agency is one of the biggest storylines surrounding the Yankees right now. Bellinger was the Yankees second best player this season, at least on the offensive side of things, and really added a whole lot of value. Not only was he an outstanding fielder for the team as always, his hitting was very good. He was getting contact, he was getting on base really, really well. And frankly, you could play him at any outfield position you need him to. He moved around a lot. And Bellinger with the Yankees had a whole lot of success. So when you consider that there has been a lot of talk about this and recently ESPN’s David Showfield discussed that the New York Mets are actually the best option for Cody Bellinger. As Shenfield said, Bellinger surprisingly tops the list in 2025 war. Although that doesn’t mean by any means suggest he’s going to be the biggest contract. Indeed, although he offers potent positional versatility with his ability to play all three outfield positions as well as first base, teams will be skeptical of his 2025 numbers since he hit 302 with 18 home runs and a 909 OPS at Yankee Stadium with its short Porsche compared to a 241 with 11 home runs and a 715 OPS on the road. Bellinger works for the Mets in center field. Heck, if they were playing 33-year-old infielder Jeff McNeel out there at times and at first, if they don’t resign Pete Alonzo. So, Bellinger could bounce around a lot with wherever he is. He can play any outfield position and he can also jump at first base if you need him to, though I think Bellinger fits better as an outfielder. However, the Yankees were listed as the second best fit for Bellinger with Shenfield saying a reunion with the Yankees is possible. But if they Yankees are committed to Jason Dominguez in left field and give Spencer Jones a shot in center, they’re going to be reluctant to give Bellinger a long-term contract. Given some of their recent returns on long deals, DJ LaH, Aaron Hicks, John Carlos Stanton, they probably don’t want to get sucked into another big contract for a non-s superstar player. No matter how good Bellinger was in 2025, all that being said, the Yankees still are going to be trying to get back Cody Bellinger because the Yankees are trying to win a World Series. And ultimately, Bellinger helps you win a World Series because he’s one of the better players on the team. Now, Bellinger was the final out for the Yankees this last season, but he was good for them in a lot of ways, and he stays as a very important player on this team. I mean, the man had a 5.1 war last season, a 272 batting average. He got on base super well, and he had an OPS of 813. He had an above average season both offensively and defensively. He should have been an all-star. So, when we look at this, unless the Yankees are really gearing up to try to get Kyle Tucker, I don’t see a point to not trying to resign Cody Bellinger. I get Spencer Jones and Jason Dominguez are also out there, but there’s ways to navigate that situation. It’s not like Jones is going to instantly walk in and be an everyday player. The Yankees will likely platoon him for a little bit, giving Aaron Judge days where he could DH and Stanton days off and situations like that or giving some sort of way where you give Ben Rice a day off depending on what the matchups look like. And obviously Spencer’s on the left side as well, so it’s a little bit complicated, but at the same time, you could give Ben Rice a day off or something like that. Or if Ben Rice goes down with like an injury or something, you could put Cody Bellinger at the first base spot, throw Spencer Jones in at center field. There’s a lot of different moves the Yankees can make here to have Cody Bellinger, Spencer Jones, Jason Dominguez, and Aaron Judge out there. They know how to navigate this situation quite well, and it’s going to be interesting to see exactly how they navigate it. And guys, we’re going to be giving you updates constantly on the New York Yankees that you don’t want to miss out on. Obviously, Jason Dominguez is someone who we have to look at as well because the 257 batting average, an OPS plus that was slightly above average with a 101. Dominguez will be an everyday player next season. And Spencer Jones, man, he’s ready. He’s got a 933 OPS, 274 batting average, stole 29 bases and hit 35 home runs at the Miners last year. Jones is ready. Dominguez is ready. It’s now a matter of what the New York Yankees ultimately will be doing going forwards. What do you guys want to see them do? Any update on Jose Ramirez – TB FROM C. Guard to the yankees
Cashman has been the gm since 98!!!! How is this acceptable!!! No other city would tolerate this!!!. Perspective, theo epstien broke the curse in Boston and Chicago. Brady won 7 chips as a pat, they moved on. Everyone in the ny sports media should be ashamed of themselves!!
Boone will fry the BP, no matter who they sign. The worse
What a joke. If George was alive cash would be on the unemployment line
Can't you see the lazy sons of Steinbrenner follow their dad's diktat to never fire Cashman? They don't care enough to look at his most recent 25 years since beating the Mets in '00: 3 pennants and 1 world championship. How can that not be deemed pathetic considering the accomplishments of their father, and those of the previous owners from 1921 to 1964?? They cling to Aaron Boone as if he deserved it. (This Dodger fan, and lover of baseball history, says he doesn't.)
SORRY SORRY SORRY: 4 pen ants, 1 measly world championship.
Hey cashman I heard that Pedro Martinez is coming out of Retirement are you gonna sign him, because everytime you sign someone there either Retired or Ready to collect social security, Mr steinbrener what are you waiting for fire cashman and sign Theo Epstein as general manager of the Yankees what are you afraid of that you might win a world series with him as general manager, steinbrenner your a joke and I'm a huge Yankees fan but 1 thing bothers me I'm tired of not winning a world series aren't you because to me making the playoffs suits you fine and not winning a world series bothers me and other Yankee Fan's to, so wake up and make that change fire cashman and hire Theo Epstein now he'll get us to the promise land soon very soon. ⚾⚾⚾
