[Lin] Preller has seemed as involved as ever in the search for Shildt’s replacement…Team sources say Preller has spoken in recent weeks with Padres chairman John Seidler about a new deal, one that could be finalized at or around the same time as the hiring of Shildt’s replacement.
Feels like we might have the manager already but we want to make the announcement with Aj extension as well. So were waiting for all the pieces to be worked out. That also includes the whole new and old coaching staff.
My wild guess is that they’ve been waiting in order to match the length of the new manger’s contract. So if the new guy gets a 3 year contract, AJ gets a 2 year extension. That or his extension has been a forgone conclusion so it’s just been on the backburner with everything else going on, who knows lol
Will we have an announcement before the start of free agency? That’s tomorrow at 5pm ET.
It’s gonna be weird trying to get people to sign with the team without a manager and a lame duck GM. Though maybe we’re headed for another dumpster diving offseason…
“Involved as ever” is interesting considering that Melvin was Seidler’s guy, and Kutsenda and Greupner reportedly chose Shildt over Flaherty, who Preller wanted.
You guys think pujols as manager would make it more enticing for free agents to sign with us?
I mean some of these guys literally grew up watching him play so idk maybe they idolize him and want to play under his guidance?
Are we so broke that we can’t have multiple conferences for two different announcements
I have a hard time seeing Preller go anywhere at this point. Obvious flaws aside, he’s had a large part in transforming this team into something competitive and entertaining.
Yeah I expected them to hold out until both Preller was extended and a new manager was found. Now the question is will the news break tomorrow or will it be delayed till the weekend
Announcement likely tomorrow. A buddy works for the Padres and they set up the Press room today.
