Yankees made two early moves. What’s next?

So Brian Cman was asked, “Do the Yankees need to rebuild?” And Cashman responded, “There’s no indication that something like that should be considered. We have a farm system that is producing.” I don’t completely disagree with that, but the Yankees let their prospects simmer at AAA sometimes for far too long. I agree with him when he said that there’s no indication that the Yankees need to rebuild. They’re just not that type of franchise where they’re going to cut everything down and basically start from scratch. That’s not the way the Yankees operate. Never has been, never will be. But with that said, Jason Dominguez, I still believe he could be a solid Major League Baseball player. Spencer Jones needs to be given an opportunity. There’s a lot of talk going around about Spencer Jones being traded for Steven Quan. I like Steven Quan. And that’s an interesting idea. I see a lot of people saying, “Oh, well, his ops plus is below 100, but he is a legitimate leadoff hitter.” But I still don’t think trading Spencer Jones for Steven Quan would be the right move. What moves have the Yankees made so far? outside of the obvious with Cody Bellinger opting out. He still can potentially come back, but it’s probably going to be on a six-year or something deal. And we’ll see if the Yankees are willing to do that. The Yankees have cut ties with Jonathan Leea. That doesn’t mean that he won’t come back. By the Yankees declining his option, that avoids injury risk on the guaranteed money. So, if he does end up coming back, it’ll be on a smaller contract. Devin Williams and Luke Weaver up in the air. The Yankees did agree to pick up the option on Tim Hill, a $3 million option for 2026. I like Hill. I actually like that move a lot. Other than that, there really isn’t any other Yankee news to get into. This is Darren with Garn Baseball, and I will keep you guys updated this entire off season like I always do. [Music]

  1. The last time the Yankee rebuilt (not that long ago) it brought about Judge/Sanchez/ Severino/Frazier/Bird/ Torres/ Andujar/
Justin Sheffield/ Tyler Wade/ Estevan Florial, "Hot prospects" all of them.

Did anybody notice that Judge was the only one who had any staying power? The only.one who had more than 2 or 3 good years. And most of them didn't even have that much.

And did anybody notice that rebuilding program resulted in a grand total of zero rings and zero pennants. Judge was the only one remaining on the Yankee 2024 Pennant winning team, so that team doesn't really count other than the Yankees having Judge.

I don't know if a team that won the pennant last year, and finished tied for the most wins in the AL this year, is in DESPERATE need of rebuilding at the moment. Maybe a few "adjustments" here and there, but REBULDING?? THAt might be premature at this point.

A lot of the fans who are demanding rebuilding are probably the same fans who want to run Volpe out-of-town. Even though there is nothing so unusual about a prospect struggling for 2 or 3 years before emerging as a good player
