Medical Update on Kevin Porter Jr.

  1. What does “sidelined” mean? Complete restriction from basketball activities? Because I couldn’t imagine him playing in games in 4 weeks.

  2. Well, hopefully he’s on the court sooner than later. Never imagined I’d be saying this but he is absolutely pivotal to this team and this next month is going to be extremely tough without him

  3. Meniscus surgery is way more serious than I’d like. His athleticism could be worse. Season might be cooked

  4. not good news.

not a medical expert in any sense, but possibly he wasn’t healing as expected in the time away and they had to opt for surgery?

  5. The timeline for this is highly contingent on whether a meniscectomy (shaving off the injured meniscus) or a meniscus suture. Based on the timeline of four weeks im assuming the shaving, in which the four weeks is definitely possible, albeit slightly optimistic.

  6. Have had my meniscus trimmed multiple times, you’re walking 2-3 days after sometimes sooner. Swelling goes down pretty quick and that’s majority of the pain. But I’d say give him 5-6 weeks before game action at least.

  7. This sucks man. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Can Brook Lopez’s back doctor take a look at KPJ’s knee? Might make him overperform when he’s back /s

  8. Most likely had a partial meniscectomy where they trim out the damaged tissue, usually means the tissue had poor blood supply which could’ve led to a repair being unlikely to succeed. Downside is long term risk of joint degeneration due to loss of cushioning cartilage. Might be stiff and sore during high impact movements like cutting or jumping. NBA players generally see reduced minutes per game and lower player efficiency rating in the first year after meniscus procedures.

    Welp.

Holy cow. Meniscus replacements aren’t far off.

NUsurface Meniscus Implants are made from polyurethane-carbonate and they mimic the bio mechanical properties of the medial meniscus, helping to protect cartilage. Clinical trial are ongoing in US and Europe.

Then there’s crazy things like scaffolding and 3D printing combining collagen or even human elastin with silkworm fibroin.

  9. Also hate to say it but this was all because of Bobby’s goofy ass feet. BP we love you but sit this year out… you’ve done enough

  10. But the youtubers just said to sled drag backwards and do split squats to “bulletproof” the knees. Do NBA pros not know how to bullet proof their knees????
