Rob Gronkowski ‘Glad’ Patriots Didn’t Trade at Deadline

Better to not over pay.
Fr fr. Colts look foolish. They buy a team that’s been built up for years, and immediately trade two 1sts in the first couple months of ownership.
Talk about putting the cart before the horse. +/- on Colts winning a playoff game this year?
Would’ve been pretty exciting to pull the trigger on a few pieces, but as soon as you get into spending 1st and 2nd round picks I’m not sure it’s worth it unless it’s a Myles Garrett type that will single handedly make a difference straight away for a few years and you’re probably best waiting for FA for those types anyway, no?
We have the QB (which is the hardest thing by far and really just a glorified lottery) and plenty of other tasty pieces, but we aren’t 1 guy away. Probably best using the draft capital to keep the team young and build talent that way.
Its like people already forgot that we went 20 years never having to rebuild because we never sold our future to WIN NOW. How often does that even work out for teams?
This is where I’m at. We have 11 picks in the draft, $70M in cap space, young QB, CB, and LT that can perform at elite levels, and a coach everyone loves. I see us having a somewhat splashy free agency and trading picks to move up in the draft.
We’re certainly not one player away from getting over the hump, so glad we didn’t break the bank on anyone. But still would have been nice to get an edge player if even for depth because it’s such a glaring weakness. But still happy with where the team’s at. 7-2 wasn’t supposed to happen, not this soon. So this year kind of feels like they’re playing with house money.
I dont see them going deep in the playoffs, no need to go all in this year. Next year we hopefully will be better and maybe thats the time to pull the trigger
They have up two 1s for a 25 year old lock down corner… It was a no brainer for them. Sure you don’t trust Daniel Jones but at the same time even if he plays poorly they will at worst be mid picks. They have a good team and this was the smart move for them. You guys just seem jealous
This team does not have the best record of spending a bunch of money nor drafting well, I think it’s a bit of a mistake to not trade maybe a later round pick for a backup pass rusher or something. You don’t have to sell the future necessarily but I think they should have done something
If the right deal would have come then the Patriots would have taken it. My guess if the Patriots didn’t want to give up a lot for rentals.
The “one player away” stuff is nonsense
A very rare occurrence happens which can compel an organization to not trade even when they lack depth.
When a coach and gm feels the dynamic and comradity of the locker room is something special, he feels the need to not ruin it.
“We all we got, we all we need.” It’s not just a line, it’s a plan.
We definitely made calls, but I think we were held back a bit because the teams doing the most selling didn’t really want to make deals with us.
NYJ and MIA are in division rivals, so deals with them were always going to be tough. The Raiders and Titans were also both sellers and we have both of their former head coaches on our staff. Can’t say for certain if it made a huge impact, but pretty sure it didn’t help.
Those 4 teams were involved in like half the trades made before the deadline.
It is possible to be both disappointed that we didn’t add anyone but also happy that we have good draft capital and great cap space to work with in the offseason. People laugh, but those extra 6ths are great for moving up in the mid rounds if we need to.
I think we definitely could have used a pass rusher. I’m hoping they elevate Swinson from the practice squad and give him some snaps at some point.
I don’t know how bad Stevenson’s injury is, if he can come back then I don’t think we needed another back because Jennings has been good and Henderson is getting better every week.
I’m glad we get the informed opinion of an experienced GM. 10 picks in next year’s draft and all the cap space in the world (that we never use).
If a proven 24-year old running back is available for a 3rd round pick, you make that happen and start the process of extending him past the rental. Nothing is guaranteed in this league and this is probably the weakest the AFC has looked in the Mahomes era (as gross as it is to say, he’s 2 plays away from 7 straight Super Bowl appearances)
