Uh we’re going to talk about Magma Celebrity doing Magma Celebrity things. Shakir Muk Madulan. Big night from MOO. Uh and the special teams really starting to figure things out and of course dig into the numbers behind the Sharks big win. So, before we get to all that, do want to let you guys know that today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Uh, right now you can download the FanDuel app by visiting fanul.com and you’ll win $300 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins. What a world we live in. Uh, I just like this season so far, especially last couple weeks, right? Uh, I’ve been doing this show since, you know, February 2020. And how many times have I had to come on here and, you know, try to kind of like shift through the the poop to try to figure out something positive to talk about with the San Jose Sharks, right? Because there has been plenty of of six to one losses that the Sharks have had to endure uh especially during my time here uh at Locked On. And it’s just nice now where you can really like you’re you’re starting to see things come together. And any longtime western knows I I have kind of like my my names for your re like when you’re a rebuilding team and the Sharks have been a rebuilding team the last couple years where you’re tearing things down and you’re trying to gather assets and you’re trying to tank actively tank and all that stuff, right? But then that next phase like like the honeymoon phase, the fun and frisky phase and the Sharks are officially in these fun and frisky phase because while the Sharks have been fun this season and yes, even with their losses, especially beginning of the year, right? Um, there was still a lot of fun stuff in there, but they weren’t really the frisky part. Now that we’re starting to win some games and starting to make teams sweat and starting to just be like it’s, you know, uh, teams can’t just gloss over San Jose as they’ve done in the past few seasons, right, of just like, okay, cool. We’re playing the Sharks. That’s a win. You know, we’ll we can play good 20 40 minutes. uh we’ll walk out of there with a four to2 win and you know be on our way up to Seattle or down to LA. Not anymore. The Sharks, this Sharks team is starting to figure things out. And a lot of it starts with Min Celebrity who uh like I could spend 45 minutes just reading off ridiculous Min Celebrating stats because uh he is one of one uh and the way he has started this season, the way he has started his career. Uh he’s at the 84 game mark. He has scored 84 points in his 84 games. I’m not a big math guy. I can do that one. And that is a points per game. Min Celibbrini is already at a point per game for his career with 84 games uh into his career. Uh and I don’t foresee him uh ever really like realistically dipping below a point per game. uh like he he’s going to he might maybe now you know next couple games if he has a bad game here or there but long term like Celabbrini is is a special special player. um you know, like some of the the graphics that they were showing during the broadcast and stuff tonight of just like how ridiculous uh he is and how good he is uh for for the Sharks, right? Uh is tied with Conor McDavid, who last I checked, um Conor McDavid pretty good. um tied with him for the league lead in points. Like when was the last time you could like say that about a Sharks player? Joe Thornton like back in the day. Like just being even in the in the conversation, right? Eric Carlson during his magical year. Um and the fact that he’s doing this at 19, right? It’s it’s it is ridiculous what he is doing and what he is like the amount of weight that he is supporting. of of the franchise and he makes it look effortless. But um I think the the bigger part right of this team is they’re starting to figure things out here like how to win games and and like when we dig into the numbers like Seattle controlled a lot of you know kind of the analytics and stuff like that. Um it’s it but tonight the Sharks were opportunistic. They took advantage of their uh of their opportunities and they really like I really liked how they responded, right? You get the celebrity goal early, the Kraken kind of figured things out and especially the first period, right? and the Kraken really kind of controlled. But as we’ve seen with the Sharks where they have these kind of key moments, right, end of the first period, Sharks put their put the foot to the gas there and then they were able to take over like and get that that goal to restore the lead. And then in the second period, the second period, the Sharks were were were great in the second period and then they extended the lead. And then the third period, how many times have we seen in the third period where this Sharks team is just like they they they collapse, you know, like they give up goals, they’ll give up, you know, right? The five minutes of chaos where they just can’t do anything right tonight. They were the ones the harbingers of doom here to the Seattle Kraken as they took advant like the opening five minutes of the third period right with those quick three goals. Um right you get a short-handed goal. You get a goal right out off the the penalty kill. Um you get like you get the the Will Smith goal. um just puts this team away and then you can right then you just do your thing and that’s where this team is learning and even like something like late in the game two minutes left you’re up by five and you’re still controlling the offensive. So, how many times have we seen that been on the other end of that, right? Where it’s just it feels like teams are are are toying with us. You know, I just picture how many times like the Edmonton Oilers specifically, right, where it’s just like you’re up by by five goals late in the third and just McDavid and Dryidle just doing whatever they want. Uh trying to kind of pad some stats and the Sharks tonight were that team. they were able to to control the pace and never like this game never felt like it was going to slip away. Um, and credit to Aszkar. We’re going to talk about Ascarov here in a couple minutes, but Ascarov having a big night as well, but this team is starting to figure and it’s not like they they’ve been playing these bottom, you know, of the barrel teams. uh you know like this team has been playing really good teams as of late and they’re still this is a Sharks are on a 4game point streak with points over the New Jersey Devils the Colorado Avalanche right wins over those two teams uh the Detroit Red Wings you you lost in a shootout to this team and then the Seattle Kraken who’s you know uh right now is in a playoff spot if the playoffs were to start two weeks after the season started. Um, like these are these are these teams are among the league leaders when it comes to points. Uh, you know, the ABS lead the league in points right now. The Devils are fourth. The Red Wings are seventh. Um, and then like I said, the the Seattle Cracker right now they’re they’re tied for they’re 13th. They’re tied with the the Hurricanes with 16 points. And you got points off of all these teams. Now, again, I don’t think this is a playoff team, right? Like, don’t go out and pre-order your playoff tickets, but I think this is a team that can one, on any given night, this team can play with the best of them. Two, this team is not a tanking team. Like, what have you seen over the last, you know, week or two weeks where you can think this is one of the worst teams in the NHL? Like, this team is not going to be in the Gavin McKenna running. like I I just don’t see it with the way that they’re playing. And then three, like you you have a superstar in Mlin Celebrate. Like I don’t know how many times I can uh you know stress that like what CBR is doing is not important and no Misa tonight no Eklan like this team is is really starting to hit on all and once they start to get healthier and Misa gets back in here like good lord what can this team be? Um, really quick before we get to like Mukadillan and Ascrov and the special teams, um, the Sharks last year, uh, they had six games where they scored six or more goals, right? And, and usually if if you win six, if you score six goals, you’re having a good night through the 14 games this season, the Sharks have four. And yes, they lost one of those games to the Ducks, but uh you know, like you can’t win every game two to one. You got to score goals and the Sharks and you’re put when you score goals like that, you put pressure on the other team to have to try to keep up with you and so far so good for the Sharks uh to start this season. So uh we’re going to talk about Shakir Mukadull, we’re going to talk about Ascrov, we’re going to talk about the special teams as everybody contributed, everybody ate tonight uh for San Jose. So, we’re going to get to that here in just one second. Let’s be real. Making excuses doesn’t solve anything. We’ve heard them all before. It’s just stress. I’m tired. Uh because the Sharks team is really fun and they’re only going to get more fun. Uh so make sure you guys are following along. Yuga podcast and of course you can watch on YouTube as well. Let’s start with with Shakir Mukmadulan who I I thought had a big night for the Sharks tonight. And I don’t think it’s any coincidence that you’ve seen this Sharks team play much better defensively since Shakir Muk Madulan has returned from his injury. Right. He he played the first game, he got scratched, then he got injured at practice and he has returned now. This is his his fifth game since his injury. Um, and I don’t think there’s any coincidence that with Muk Modulan’s return, we see the PK has gotten a lot better. Uh, we see the defense has gotten a lot better. Uh, and who would have thought, right, this guy that you’ve brought in and he’s been in the system for a couple years now and has, you know, honed out his game in in in the AHL and I have been a big fan of his, the way that he has played the AHL. You’re seeing that come to life here with the Sharks and uh he was all over the ice tonight. Muk Madon, especially in the defensive zone, right, using that big 6’4 uh height and size and reach. Um and that strength where he is able to help clear the crease. Um and I think he’s a big reason why you’ve seen the PK really turn around over the last couple games here. Uh the the penalty kill was six for six tonight and they had a short-handed goal. Uh Muka Madan also sprung Tyler Toy who out of the box on a very Eric Carlsonesque uh pass there to to get him uh that goal to really kind of put that put things away right the cherry on top goal there from Tofoley. Um it’s just it’s great to and right the big question with Muk is always gonna be the health but it’s great to see him really starting to come into his zone and him playing with Dickinson I think is a a great I know the Sharks played 11 and seven tonight but him playing with Dickinson I think is a great combination for those two guys especially with Dickinson who we saw jump up into the offense more with his size and his ability to kind of read and react is able to kind of play a little bit more defensively but we saw tonight. They did a great job on the broadcast of showing Muk Madullan jump into play and then realized things were starting to kind of turn the other way, get back and make a great defensive play with his stick. Um, like Muk Mullan like as great as Orlap’s been a a big part of I think of the Sharks turnaround with him getting comfortable, right? Dickinson figuring things out here and you know all the other guys kind of starting to figure out where they slot in. But I don’t there’s there’s no doubt to me that Mukuman’s return I think is kind of that final piece of of why this Sharks defense has been starting to turn the corner here. And again, you can’t win every game two to one, but you can win some games six to one. And I think Mug Doulan uh helping out with that one part was a big reason. So, and the other I think big guy for that was Ascrov tonight. Ascrov has really settled into his role. And again, no coincidence. I think that uh with the improved defensive play, it’s made Ascrov’s life really easy or not really easy, but much easier. Um Ascarov definitely bailed the Sharks out a bunch in the first period where there was some kind of sloppy play a little bit there. There was a couple of uh kind of little, you know, one-on-one situations where, but Ascrov made some big time saves, right? And I think that’s the key for for Ascrov right now is realizing he doesn’t have to carry the weight of the world on him, right? He doesn’t have to make every save, but you just you got to make the saves that you can make and then if you give us a couple special ones every once in a while, the Sharks are going to be okay, right? CBrini said it before. If ASI can play this way, we’re going to win a bunch of games. And ASI played great tonight. The offense played great tonight. Um, and yes, I know the Kings the Kings game is still in the back of your mind, but uh I think the way Asgrov’s really started to string together some games here, I think he’s really settled into a groove. Um, and like you you’re starting to feel more confident anytime he’s back there, right? And um, tonight was a big performance. He made some big time saves. Uh, he kept the Sharks in this when they were still kind of figuring things out in the first period. and then they rewarded him with some run support. So, um but yeah, the special teams, uh you know, like I said, six for six tonight, getting that straw henle. Um I know Colin Graph did like 85% of the work on that goal, but it was nice to see Tyandry get rewarded. Dandre, who a lot of people, you know, uh were were questioning his role on the Sharks, his roster spot. I think he’s had an excellent start start to the season and he’s been great on the penalty kill and he got rewarded for his efforts tonight. Right. This this this goal wasn’t about tonight for DAR. I think this goal was about his performance to start the season. And uh if the Sharks defense can can continue to play the way that they’re playing on the PK and allow the forwards to be aggressive, I think we’re going to see some more of these short-handed opportunities, especially if Cardwell stays up uh and especially with with Graph and Delandrea out there. just gives them a little bit more burst of uh of foot speed and and gives them that ability to uh get those shorthanded opportunities and and really kind of turn the tide because uh yeah what you you felt like after they scored that one this game was over and then the tofully goal really kind of finished it off like I said. So, um, and even the power play tonight, which I know has been a kind of a undercriticism with with Clingberg, and they they finally got figured things out tonight and, you know, with with Clingberg, like I still think it’s going to be a work in progress right now as they’re trying to kind of figure out everyone’s role with it. now, especially with Eklland out right now. But, um, you know, like I still think this power play is going to be a one of the better units in the league and they continue to show especially with Celibbrin and Smith and the magic that they create and if Clingberg can kind of figure out his role in it like that this unit will be just fine. So, um, but yeah, it’s nice to see contributions from everybody tonight and we’re going to discuss that. We’re going to look at kind of where uh look at the numbers behind this game, look at how the Sharks were able to take advantage and kind of try to piece together some lines and as these Sharks uh did play 11 and seven. But uh yeah, it’s weird to talk about Sharks wins. So, we’ll get to that here in just one second. Listen, check out the allnew locked on NHL game night every game, every night until Stanley Cup champion is crowned. Get local analysis on national scale. Find NHL game night on Locked on uh on YouTube or wherever you listen to podcast. All right. Uh let’s dig into the numbers of this game. Lot of uh lot of special teams in this game and the Sharks easily won the special teams battle, right? One of three on the power play. uh six for six on the PK plus a shorty. Uh big right there like those two goals and especially against a team like the Kraken who struggle to score five on five. So you won the five on five when it came to scoring and you definitely won the special teams and it like goes a long way uh when you score six goals, but 42 minutes at five on five. Um 41 to 30 shot attempts in favor of the Kraken. um 57.75 to 42.25% Corsy4 again favor of the Kraken as 16 to 15 shot actual shots on goal in favor of the Kraken. So, while the Kraken got more shot attempts, again, the Sharks taking advantage of their opportunities right there and just that quality over quantity that they’re tend to be uh rely a little bit too reliant on, but again, right now you they’re scoring a ton of goals and they’re winning games. So, uh 11 to 11 scoring chances, four uh 4 to2 high danger chances, and then 1.2 to 73 expected goals, four uh in favor of the Kraken. But the Sharks, like I said, four goals at even strength to the Krakens. One, and then you won the special teams battle tonight for sure. So, um, as for the Lions, again, they’re going to be a little skewed because of, uh, you know, running 11 on seven. Uh, but Will Smith celebrating to Foley. They played 924 6 to10 shot attempts 5 to five actual shots had the two goals uh 21 to22 expected goals four 3 to three scoring chances 0 to1 high danger chances nice to see the sleepover line all gets a goal tonight do we get another sleepover I think that’s a big question do we get another sleepover um on their next road trip I assume so um celebrating is amazing uh Smith I thought was was great tonight as well and you saw uh his goal was was ridiculous kind of pass. Uh it looked like it hit Celebrating, but I guess it bounced off a Kraken uh defender and went in, but like Smith just needs to I think Smith needs to shoot just like a touch more. Uh but like really great game from from Smith tonight. And then uh Tofoley like top shelf. What more can you ask for from Tyler to Foley? That was that was great. Um Kershwin and God. Good to see Godette back tonight um as he was activated from IR and he kind of filling in for the Eklan slot here. Um Kersev who did have his point streak snap tonight but uh was also named the third star of the game wasn’t able to to me or third star of the week last week for the the Sharks wasn’t able to mention that because that was again off the grid but um you know this line continues to like that Kersev Wenberg continues to to do positive things. Uh Kersev had a couple opportunities tonight. Wenberg uh great great pass on the Cardwell just like Wenberg’s really like we we talked about kind of early in the season when not able to kind of find that scoring touch. He has found that scoring touch and Wenberg has been that the emergence of the second line has big been a big reason why the Sharks have found success and even though tonight second line didn’t score uh they continue to do a lot of positive things. uh 807 uh time on ice for this line. 8 to9 shot attempts, four to four actual shots. Did give up a goal, but 0.15 to.37 expects four two to three scoring chances and 0 to2 high danger chances for this line. Uh plus that great pass from from Blenberg. Skinner, Dandria, and Cardwell played 413 two to three shot attempts. uh one actual shot uh for this line. Uh 01 to.17 expectables, 4 one to zero scoring chances, zero to zero high danger chances. Skinner almost had one like um I know he had a goal on on Sunday’s game, but it feels like Skinner could have like a bunch of like I have like we’re going to get a a Skinner eruption of goals if he continues to play the way that he’s playing. Um Cardwell absolutely beautiful goal again great feed from uh from Wenberg there but this is like Cardwell feels like he should be an every night bottom six player because of that won that scoring pop right you you know what he can do on the PK especially if you watch any sort of you know any amount of of games for the the Barracuda last year. Um Cardwell just feels like a guy who should be continuing to carve out more and more opportunities with the Sharks. So uh and then Goodro, Delandria, and Graph, uh 312, one to two shot attempts, 0 to2 actual, uh shots allowed. Um expected goals for zero to 08. Um you know, Goodro has been solid on the PK. He had a an opportunity. He got a he had an actual short-handed opportunity tonight as well. And Graph, like I said, did 85% of the work on on the uh the title injury goal and just Danger was able to to finish that off. So graph just that right Johnny on the spot guy every time um you need a spot like he always knows where to go which is as weird as it say sounds like it’s it’s a nice thing to have um defensively. So again because they played seven defenseman we won’t look at the actual pairs. We’ll look at uh how each guy did um at least when it came to generating shot attempts. Um, Ferraro led the way with Cors4 at 55.56. Clingberg uh was second at 52.63. Ligrin 47 uh 83. I thought Ligrin was a little me tonight. You could see I don’t know if he’s 100% healthy would be my guess. Uh, and if if the Sharks get some forwards back, I would like to maybe see Lulren maybe sit for a game or two to try to get healthy because he just doesn’t look like himself and uh his mistakes kind of led to to the one cracking goal tonight. Um, let’s see. Defensively, Deise, he’s been good on the PK, uh, 36.84%. Or 36% Cors 4, Luke McDullan 35% uh, Dickinson 33.33%. So, um I know again some of the offensive numbers aren’t there for for those guys tonight, but like I said, Mug Madun I thought was was great and a big reason, you know, his play on the PK was great. Big reason why the Sharks won this game and why the PKs looked a lot better. Olaf I thought was a little quiet tonight. Uh Dickinson had some some offensive opportunities. You’re going to hopefully with the right partner see him continue to be able to jump into uh the rush a little bit more here and there. So, uh, as for Ascrov tonight, so he faced 29 shots, made 28 saves, one goal against, 4.9 expected goals against in all situations. So, Ascrov was out of his mind tonight. 12 of 13 high danger saves, five of five um mid- danger, and 111 of low danger. So, uh, Ascrov uh, big night from from ASI here and a 966A percentage. Woo. We’re uh starting to clo slowly climb towards that 900 save percentage for Ascarov here. So, can the Sharks have a goalie who finishes with a 900 save percentage? Uh hopefully. Hopefully, I believe. I believe. Um but yeah, great win uh against a really solid team in the Kraken. I know they’re they’re not the most top topheavy team, but that this team is plays hard, right? They forche hard. Uh they’ve they’ve been playing good hockey to start the season and the Sharks just went out there and took this team apart. So um yeah, then you get the Jets just this the start of this season is brutal, man. You get the Jets and then you get the Florida Panthers this weekend. So um yeah, got to get ready for those ones. So uh we’ll be back tomorrow. So make sure you guys are following along where you get podcast and of course you can watch on YouTube as well. Follow the show on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and on Tik Tok at Locked OnSharks. Follow me on Twitter and Blue Sky at my fry hole. Till tomorrow. Bye friends.

  1. Great segment JD. This team has really come together. Not seeing a whole lot of turn overs. I thought Mario played well too. Everyone played well. For the first time in years, I think these guys , can make the playoffs! It's very early, we will see.
