I legit wouldn’t even mind Kadri staying on the team as long as it doesn’t interfere with our ability to tank one season and get a high draft pick. All that matters
Really sucks having an owner who doesn’t care about winning / the big picture & only cares about the bottom line on a season to season basis. The team has no hope of making the playoffs this year & keeping Kadri is only hurting the team long term. Don’t get me wrong, Kadri is by far our best player & has been a great flame but this is the year to move him when you consider his age, what’s on the market at the Centre & the strength of this draft. Very frustrating to read this article
I’m so fucking over Murray Edwards man, what shithead. Does he not see what the product on the ice is like?!
Fuck my life why am I a fan of this team
I fucking hate Murray Edwards. What a shit owner.
You’d like Gavin McKenna a lot *fucking* more, Murray. A LOT MORE.
Think of the fucking merch sales and ticket sales with Gavin McKenna in Calgary. A lot more than Kadri brings.
Oh no the sky is falling
Do anything for the revenue of 2 home playoff games, except build a team that is capable of making the playoffs on a consistent basis let alone compete when they get there.
Here is the thing, if you traded Kadri or Coleman and then drafted Gavin McKenna the first thing you would want to do is acquire players like Kadri and Coleman to mentor McKenna in how to be good NHL player. If players like this were easy to acquire they would also have no trade value. If you want to get worse in order to get better in the long run, these may not be the players you want to trade away.
With that said, I fully expect the Flames to be sellers at the trade deadline and for them to be in the bottom ~5 at the end of the season. I don’t see there being a big difference in the standings if they trade Kadri and Coleman, I expect moving out multiple other pieces will do enough to fall significantly below 0.500 for the last 20 to 30 games of the season.
If the Flames do decide to trade one of these players, I would probably bet on it being Coleman instead of Kadri. He is arguably easier to replace, and they could find a solid veteran in their 30s to overpay on a 1 or 2 year deal to mentor the kids. Right now I think Kadri, more than Backlund, is the heart of the Flames.
God he is a fucking tool
The only hope is Kadri asking for a trade. Which I think will happen this year, he’s not interested in a rebuilding team
Hey Murray, go take a look at who is leading the league in scoring today. 1 player in the top 10 was not a top 10 pick. 4 first overall picks, 3 second overall picks. That’s where the talent is. We want those guys.
This is exactly what I would say to make a team offer more
Ya’ll gotta chill, I wanna embrace the tank too but what did you expect Edwards to say?
He doesn’t want to trade him , in fact he doesn’t want to trade him
Am I just way to hopeful or does this make zero sense? Don’t get me wrong I think Murray Edwards is a fucking idiot. But there is no way you have a logical brain and look at this team and say to yourself “I love this core”. Kadri’s value is through the roof right now, Playing right now like a top 2 center, only 4 years left on his contract 7 mil avg. Like the haul you could get for Kadri right now from a cup contending team could easily be a few picks and a prospect. Management would be foolish to not even entertain a trade.
I really hope this is some form of decoy because holy shit we are in a for many years of mid if we keep letting management get in the way of making moves.
If anyone has ever been in sales, remember it’s important to note how much you love something to drive up the price, if you ever had to part with it…

Forever mid boys!
Sooo when are fans going to officially hold a strike? The man is literally saying we will be forced mediocrity forever and that we should be happy with that.
This is evidence that the owner meddles in hockey ops. What’s even the point of having a GM lol.
Sad flames noises
hopefully he’s just saying this to leverage trade
In love with a core that’s never made the playoffs
Lol
Awesome. I hope this fucking clown is happy with forever middle of the pack. Asset management is a real thing Murray, and McKenna should be the goal
Despite being a Leafs fan always cheered for the Flames in the west. It’s sad how delusional the ownership group can be at times
We deserve to criticize and complain but where and who is Murray saying this to? It’s easy to say he’s a crusty old owner who refuses to fully rebuild so we can remain competitive and cover his baseline but we don’t actually know what’s said behind closed doors.
I mean we have an owner that has taken on Suncor as a sponsor yet the company he help found isn’t anywhere to be seen
