We’ll do it for the first time in a while. Your questions on our favorite baseball team. Brewers announcer Ryan Anderson. Why are some of you mad at him? We get to all that coming up next here on Lockdown Brewers. This episode is brought to you by the great folks over at FanDuel. FanDuel, America’s number one sports book for a reason. Major League Baseball free agency. And I know as Brewers fans, we always think that, well, we’re going to sit on the sidelines for this. 97 wins. What What could the possibly the Brewers improve on? Man, could they use some of these guys? Absolutely. They can use some of these guys. Will they go after some of these guys? No. Uh some of these guys are just going to be paid stupid money. Although, there’s a couple out there that I mean, I I see the projections of their salaries and I would say, “Yeah, man. I wouldn’t mind having that guy for that salary. Uh, and we’ll get to that coming up here in a little bit. So, the number one free agent out there, Kyle Tucker, he’s projected to make $400 million. I mean, somebody is going to be dumb enough to pay that guy $400 million. And it’s not going to be the Milwaukee Brewers. I hope it’s the Chicago Cubs. Uh, so that guy is going to get grossly overpaid. He’s the number one guy out there, the number one free agent. Kyle Tucker is not coming to Milwaukee. Now, some of you have mentioned Alex Bregman, okay, who had kind of an up and down year with the Boston Red Sox. Went through a little quad injury and uh when he was health, he was great. He’s known for being a terrific leader, good defensively, better than good defensively at third base. Now, the contract I saw for him, 5 years, 175 million. Yeah, that’s a little out of the strike zone for the Milwaukee Brewers and a little bit more than I want to pay for this guy, but you know, at Anam Field, that guy could put up some big numbers, I think. uh Alex Bregman. Uh we’ll see where he ends up, but the quad injury I thought he’d still put up some decent numbers in Boston even though he was out for a little bit, but um that’s a guy who obviously put him over at third base, it’d be fantastic. But five years, 175 million. Even if the Brewers could afford it, I think that’s a little much. A little overpaid for Alex Bregman. The guy who I would really love to have a guy who had there’s two guys when I saw their projected salaries. I would love to have it. Wouldn’t it be cool to make a big splash on Pete Alonzo? I saw seven years, 210 million is the projected ballpark that um this guy could get. He did 50 home runs with the Milwaukee Brewers, I believe. 31 obviously seven years at the end of the end of that contract. You might be regretting a few things. I mean, there’s no way I’d want to give that guy seven years, 210 million. He was um this past year he he played with the Mets on a prove it one-year deal and he had a great year. He had a great year. I thought he had a lot of clutch hits uh on a team that grossly underachieved. You know, the thought is that he’s going to be resigning with the Mets. We’ll see. thought I would I mean Pete Alonzo I would forget about anybody possibilities over at first base if the Brewers were in the if that if it wasn’t a seven-year deal. It’s not like Pete wants something like a six or sevenyear deal. And that’s where I get turned off. I’m like thanks that no thanks. But if I was going to go all in on a guy on a shorter deal like a four or fiveyear deal even beat Alonzo. God, I’d forget Andrew Juan would even even existed if I get Pete Lonzo. I just love a, you know, certain guys just really love Pete Lonzo’s that guy. God, you know, I think of that playoff home run he hit against the Brewers a couple of years ago. Clutch. Um, and I feel like every time I put on the package, Major League Baseball package, Pete Lonzo was the one bright spot of that Mets team. I mean, there’d be other guys making a lot of money, failing like Sodto, and I know Sodto, they had decent numbers. I just think they overpaid for him. But god, I could a fantasy world. I would love to have Alonzo over here. Uh, some of you have mentioned uh Bo Bashette. Seven years, 180 million, what, 23 home runs or so. Uh, of course, his dad played here, Dante, which means nothing. Right. That means nothing to any of us. He played here in in the early 90s. Bette seven years 180. That’s out of the strike zone. I mean, the Brewers weren’t going to give Adam do that. And certainly Bo Bashette, he’ll get that from somebody, but not here. Tell you the guy who I I like, and maybe I’m just focusing in on big-time home run hitters right now. Did I see Kyle Schwarber four years 120 million? Kyle Schwarber four years 120 million to DH for me. Wow. That seems a little light on that. A guy who could hit me 60 home runs at Amfam Field. God, I’ll tell you what, four years, 120 million. Maybe again, maybe I’m just infatuated with the the home run bats and I think the Brewers, God, he put a big bat in the Brewers lineup and maybe again some of this is fantasy world for me, but when I saw the contract projection on Schwarber, four years, 120 million, and I know he’s up there at age, but he still can hit hit home runs, hit bombs, man. Can you imagine the damage that guy could do at Amfam Field? Of course, I thought Reese Hoskins was going to do some big time damage, but Schwber’s Schwarber four years 120 million, man. Um, the Brewer should be able to afford four years 120 million for somebody, right? I mean, they got the Reese Hoskins deal coming off. I don’t want and I you know what I don’t want to see them going for the bargain bin this year and and it’s worked for them and I’m not saying I need to give somebody give somebody stupid money. I mean there’s no way I’d give Dylan CE anything that he’s looking for. Absolutely not. Uh you know seven I I see you know he’s looking for a ton of money. Absolutely not. Would I would I offer him any sort of deal or any pitcher? I mean, Brandon Woodruff projected I’ve the latest I’ve seen there two years 50 million. Absolutely not. We love Brandon Woodruff, but two years 50 million. Forget that. But gosh, four years 120 million. Uh Suarez. Uh I’ve seen some projections where Suarez would be a nice fit with the Brewers, except I saw a couple of national guys say, “Well, he’s the swing and miss. The Brewers don’t like the swing and miss guys.” I got news for you. The Brewers got a few of those guys on this team. Turio’s one of them. And of course, Christian Yelich, big swing and miss guys. So, this perception that the Brewers don’t like the swing and miss guys. They got a few of those guys on their roster already. But Suarez over at third base, another guy who’s getting up there in years. Disappointing at times down the stretch for Seattle this year when they made the trade from Arizona to get him. what he wait I think he was 0 for his first 35 with the Mariners but still Suarez could it be a waiting game on something like that where we get in the spring training and all that maybe Suarez isn’t taken and the Brewers get him at a reduced deal like they did a I’m not saying you get them for 4 million like you got Canana interesting so those are some of the names out there those are some of the topheavy names I feel like the Brewers need an impact player if they’re going to go in free agency. Yeah. You know, there’s going to be parts that they could use. The Brewers already have a lot of parts, right? They have a lot of parts, a lot of guys on this team who are a part of the equation, but they don’t have that superstar. I think Terra had a fantastic year. I think Freelick had a good year. I think William Contrarus is one of the best catchers in baseball. Yelich had a great regular season. Obviously, what we see from Cheerio, Andrew Vaughn, the jury is out. We’ll see what he does here after he was given an opportunity this year after um you know, he failed miserably with the White Socks. But if the Brewers could go out themselves and make a bold move, I mean, wouldn’t that be surprising? And again, I’m not saying pay stupid money to a pitcher or stupid money to any of these any of these guys, but if you could somehow work something I mean, four years 120 million, the Brewers should be able to do a move like that. I’ve always said the Brewers, their their payroll should be in the neighborhood of 150, 160 million. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t be. they to to for this franchise to be at 118 million 114 million you know 25th in the league or whatever the heck it is that’s terrible we all agree that Marinasio I mean he shouldn’t be you know Sodto we don’t expect him to get in a bargain bargaining um war with Sodto last year but still you can afford a four years, 120 million. And don’t tell me you can’t. Don’t tell me you can’t. Again, there’s no reason why this team can’t spend more than 118 million. And you know what his argument is going to be? And he didn’t help his cause last year when he said, “Well, you know what? Is it my turn to Is it my duty to as a steward, as he always calls himself, the steward of this franchise to um get to a World Series or to provide a summer of entertainment? He got his summer of entertainment and he made some money this year. There was a lot of full houses there. Yes, he made his money this year. It’s time to reinvest some of that money smartly, not stupidly. That’s like some teams do. Some teams can’t help themselves. But I would take a shot. If I can get somebody four years, 120 million, an impact player, an impact player. That’s what they need. I’m not shopping in free agency for a pitcher. Spending a lot of money on a pitcher would be foolish for the Milwaukee Brewers. Downright foolish. Woodruff, two years, 50 million. No way. Some idiot out there is going to do it though. Some guy who just can’t get out, can’t help himself, needs starting pitching. And the owner is going to be foaming at the mouth at getting Woodruff on his team at two years 50 million. He’ll get that. I’m sure he will. But better not be the Milwaukee Brewers. All right, we’re going to get to your questions coming up next, but Brewers free agency again, these some of these players are going to go every which way and the Brewers will not be involved, but I would just love for them love for them in the ideal world to be all in on somebody and and I get it because the baseball structure whereas in the NBA or the NFL. The Packers can make a trade for a Micah Parsons and pay him stupid money. The Brewers could give stupid money to Giannis. I mean, Giannis is worth every dime he gets, right? Um, but that’s just the financial the structure of the way it is in those sports. Baseball, not so much. Not so much. And because of that, the Brewers and other teams as well have got to sit on the sidelines in free agency. But there’s no I’ll say that again. Absolutely. Four years, 120, 150 million. I don’t see any reason why payroll should stay where it is like it was last year at about what 114 118 million. That payroll should be able to climb up to about 150 million. sellouts in the park. So, doesn’t do it doesn’t do Mark Atonio’s look any well when he’s anymore uh any good, I should say, when he’s spending that money on soccer teams overseas. And over here in Milwaukee, we’re like starving for a championship. Please spend that on us. Yeah, you got 97 wins this year. And what has failed you in the postseason every year? Offense. Offense. Offense. Offense. Don’t need pitching. Pitching hasn’t failed this team. Offense has. Offense. Get a big bat somehow. Stick him in the middle of that lineup and make him let him eat. El Schwarber, four years, 120 million. I know it’s fantasy world. All right, we’ll come right back. Take some of your questions in the mailbag. Coming up next, Chuck Freeman here on Lockdown Brewers. We always drop immediate instant reactions right here on the YouTube page of Lockdown Brewers. All right, let’s get to some of these questions here. Some of these questions. Um, what grade would you give the Brewers? Says Steve. What grade would you give the Milwaukee Brewers this year? That’s interesting. You know, it’s it’s I I saw where ESPN gave the Brewers an A for the regular season or gave them an A for the season. I always have to me the postseason weighs heavily on my grade for the Milwaukee Brewers. The postseason weighs heavily on that. Yes. A+ an A+. I don’t give out A+ as much, but that was an A+ regular season for the Milwaukee Brewers, right? An A+. It was an F opening weekend, but everything after that from miday on was roses with these guys. A+ regular season, a D in the postseason. So overall, I got to say a B. A B because you know what? You got to weigh like in college where you weigh certain exams more than than the others. Like the final exam, the final exam the Brewers did not pass. They got swept in a four game series and weren’t even competitive except in the ninth inning in game one against the Dodgers. So overall grade B because you bombed out against the Dodgers. And if that sounds tough, that’s too bad. Ah, let’s see here. Oh, I just I just uh I just lost my question. Here it is. Uh I Anthony says, “I feel like Peralta and Contraras would be too costly for the Brewers to extend long term, especially Peralta. Maybe they should work something out with Contras. What do you think?” Um, yeah, Peralta, there’s no way in heck that they’re going to ever extend Peralta. I mean, he’s either going to play out this eight-year this $8 million contract that he’s got coming up the Brewers picked the option up on or they’re going to trade him in the offseason. But he’s not playing with the Brewers beyond that. Uh, so I would I advise not to get yourself a Freddy Peralta jersey anytime soon because he’s not here for long term, unfortunately. I’d love to see him here. Contrarus on the other hand now last off last year contrarus did not want to talk about a contract extension have a few years left in control of him um but of course I would love to see contrarus long term here absolutely you got to sign him heart and soul of this team William Contrarus sign yes the guy sign longterm again he may not want to at this point he’s coming off the the hand, right? But I still think he had a good year. Not a great year, but a good year. Absolutely. I want Contrarus long-term extension. Buy him out of the so some of those years, those arbitration years, these next two and let’s do a long-term extension on him. Um Tim says, “I’m excited for the Brewers future and the young players coming up. I think if we trade Freddy for a power bat, a third baseman in prospects. Do you think that’s a possibility of trading Freddy for a power bat? Yes, I think so. I think so. I think anything the Brewers trade, I think they’ll get a pitcher in return, just like when they trade at Williams, they’ll get a pitcher in return and I think they’ll look for a bet. Now, it could be a prospect. It could be a prospect. Now, the Brewers do have some young prospects obviously in the minor league system on the left side of the infield. So, but I think the Brewers will look for a bat, a home run bat, whether it be a young guy in the farm system or maybe a a veteran. We’ll see. But I think that they will have to get a bat either through trade or through free agency like I talked about on the top. Um, let’s see here. The Brewers wore out the Dodgers starting pitching this year, didn’t they? And that’s why the Dodgers struggled in the World Series. And no, the Brewers didn’t wear out the Dodgers starting pitching. Um, no, not at all. I wish they would have. I think you’re kind of saying that tongue and cheek, Tony. Um, I’d be interested in your thoughts for Alex Bregman for the Brewers. He’s got some pop, a lot of playoff experience. He’s 31, has had injury issues, probably too rich, but hoping for someone. And that is Super King. Call me on that one. Yeah, I just talked about Breman. Um, he opted out of a two-year $80 million with the Red Sox. thought it was somewhere closer to like two years 63 million but I’ve seen reports of two years 80 million somewhere anyways a lot of money opted out for his final two years in Boston of course 5 years 175 million but if the Brewers were not going to give that to Adamus they are not going to give that to Alex Bregman and it turns out the move was a smart move not to sign Adamus like we said if you’re going to spend some money and spend a lot of money better be smart with But again, you just don’t you don’t know how these guys are going to work out. I mean, Adamus could have went on and had a great year in San Francisco. We would have been like, man, why why don’t we resign Adamus? That would have been worth it. Um, but no. Um, he had a bad year and that makes the Brewers look good because they did not resign him. Uh, let’s see here. What do you think of Brandon Low of the Rays? A stop gap at second base. He’s due 11 and a half for one year. 30 home run guy. We could plug him in at second and shift Tang to short, keeping Durban at third. Yeah, Brandon Low. 31 home runs on the season this past year. Oh, Brandon Low. Yeah, definitely. I I’d be on board of that. Bringing Brandon Low of the Rays to Milwaukee on that type of uh expiring contract right there. Sure. 256 he had it last year. Um, I would definitely will that that that’s something I’d entertain. I don’t think that’s going to ever happen, but I think ultimately, you know, you’re talking about keeping Durban at third. Durban, I think, is eventually moving to second base. I feel like I’m the only guy mentioning about Durban moving to second base. I haven’t heard anybody else anywhere else that happened. And maybe I’m totally off base on that, but that is my gut feeling sometimes with the Brewers. And I might be wrong on that, but I feel that’s move they’re going to make. All right, we come back, we’ll wrap this up. Some people were ticked off of what Joe Davis did the other day, the Dodgers announcer. And um Brian Anderson could have been in the same position. Some of you are mad at Brian Adams. Brian Adams. Never be mad at Brian Adams or Brian Anderson for that matter. We’ll get to that next here on Locked on Brewers. Brought to you by Price Pick. I mention I say Brian Adams. I went to go see him down little known secret. I went to go see Brian Adams Monday night down in Chicago. Great concert, by the way. Uh Price Picks. You and I make decisions every day whether we want to go to concerts or not. But right now, you can get paid for your decisions with price picks. Don’t miss any of the excitement of this sports season. Whether you’re following the NFL, NBA, or both, no better time to jump in on all the action. Pick more or less on at least two player stats. And if you get them right, you win. Let’s say you want Jordan Love over on passing yardage. Okay? Maybe you like Caleb Williams under on passing yardage. Couple them together and you could win big price picks. Here’s what you got to do. Download the Price Picks app. Use that promo code locked on MLB. 50 bucks in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That’s locked on MLB. 50 bucks in lineups after your first $5 lineup. Price picks. It is good to be right with price picks. Price picks again. You could pick as many as five players, but two to start up to five. And of course, the more you put in there, the more you win with price picks. Jack Freeman here on Lockdown Brewers. Down the stretch we come. And by the way, those free agent, there’s a ton of free agents. I just went through some of the other the bigger names because I think that the Brewers need an impact player. Some of these guys off the charts, but I’m telling you, some of those guys when I see four years, 120 million. Yeah, there’s no reason. I don’t want to see a guy go to another team for a a price and think, why didn’t the Brewers pay that? Why didn’t the why weren’t we in on that deal? All right, some of you guys were upset in the post. I never got to this when the season ended, but some of you guys were taking the Brewers the Brewers struggles in the postseason out on Brian Anderson. Brian Anderson, I think it’s very cool that a Brewers announcer is doing games on the NBA, doing the National League Championship Series, doing playoffs. That’s pretty cool. That says a lot about the Brewers. The one constant thing that they’ve done over the years, hire good announcers. And I feel like the Brewers have a radio and TV always, always, always, always solid. I feel like they have the top broadcast. I because I hear a lot, I see a lot. I feel like the Brewers have always have the top broadcasters, both radio and TV across the country. No doubt. So Brian Anderson, I saw some of you were getting upset when he was calling the Otani home runs on Twitter. Don’t take it out on him. BA’s just out there doing national game. What’s he supposed to do on national TV now? Joe Davis did the World Series. He’s the Dodgers announcer. Okay. Um, and he hosted the World Series parade the other day for when the Dodgers won, he hosted the parade. Some people are coming after Joe Davis for doing that. Now, I’m not the biggest Joe Davis fan, but no, Joe Davis is I mean, he’s a solid announcer. Announcing to me is appeal. He might not he might be a great announcer, but he might not appeal to me as a broadcaster, right? I mean, I think Bob Kostas is a great announcer, but I’m not a big Bob Kostas guy. But Brian Anderson, I love Brian Anderson. I think he’s great in anything he does, golf or whatever. But Brian Anderson, um, if the Brewers won the World Series, Brian Anderson probably would be MCing the World Series parade for the Milwaukee Brewers, right? And that’s not a bad look. These national guys, some people are coming at Joe Davis for, you know, yucking it up at the Dodger parade. All these guys were announcers. They their their real jobs are broadcasters with other teams. Shambi with the Cubs, he’s broadcasting on ESPN. So, yeah, that’s it’s a it’s a badge of honor to have your guy do the national games. But don’t be getting at Brian Anderson because he’s getting excited and um on an Otani home run. Obviously, he can’t go on there and say, “Oh, geez. How come we can’t get this guy out?” He’s not going to say that on the Fox broadcast. And if I was in a position doing the same thing, that’s just the way it is. If you’re you’re calling network broadcast network games. But I saw one guy, national guy, come after Joe Davis saying it’s a bad look for him to be hosting the Dodger parade. Who’s going to be doing these games otherwise? All these guys have day jobs. When they go to the network, they’re kind of moonlighting for the most part. All right. And I think that’s cool that when you see Brian Anderson or Jeff Levering doing a a college football game or whatever. Yeah. It’s uh it just says, “Hey, man. The Milwaukee Brewers got their guy their announcers are doing big time sports. Keep it coming.” It just says a lot about the the broadcast hires the Brewers have done over the years. Maybe they can be the same way in free agency coming up. Make some good hires in free agency. We will be tracking about that. We’ll be talking a lot about that and other players as well. We knocked off the tippy tippy top of the free agent guys and some of the guys maybe in dream world would be interested in, but we’ll get more into it coming up. My name is Chuck Freeman. Thanks for listening to Lockdown Brewers, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network. We are your team every day.

MLB free agency begins Thursday, and the spending debate intensifies for the Milwaukee Brewers. Should the Brewers push their $118 million payroll to $150 million for an impact bat?

Chuck Freimund analyzes realistic free agent targets for the Milwaukee Brewers, making the case for Kyle Schwarber at four years, $120 million while dismissing Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman as too expensive. He grades the Brewers’ 2024 season, argues why William Contreras deserves a long-term extension over Freddy Peralta. Freimund also defends Brewers announcer Brian Anderson against fan criticism for his national broadcast work, explaining why having local announcers on FOX and ESPN is actually a badge of honor for the franchise.

Discover which free agents could transform the Brewers’ offense and why this offseason demands a different spending approach from owner Mark Attanasio.

  1. It would be crazy to pay Woodruff $50 million for two years, especially after giving him $2.5 million to stay and rehab in 2024 and to pitch maybe a half season in 2025, only to be unavailable for the third consecutive year in the postseason.

  2. It would be nice if we had an owner who was actually interested in winning a world series. But we don't so we have to work with the budget we have. He's more interested in just turning a profit and providing regular season family fun as he said.

  3. They are going to spend more to upgrade the stadium than to upgrade the roster. A new atrium, an upgraded concourse, a new restaurant selling $70 steaks and $30 cocktails. That’s going to bring me and other skeptical fans back for sure. NOT! I’d be happy watching a championship team in an even 25 years older County Stadium.

  4. Attanasio will never spend the money until Brewers lose 100 games and finish last. One of four best teams why spend money. Why talk of Brewers getting any free agent?

  5. I remember wanting Kyle schwarber last time during the mini- lockout. Predicted 3-60 he ended up getting 1 more year. That would've been a steal for us in his prime years. Nope sign cutch instead 😂😂They're not gonna sign him now in his 30's

  6. Brewers has 50+m to spend, priority is power bat and starting pitching! They should go after Naylor or Suarez, plus some tier 2 FA starters like Houser, Mahle, Kelly

  7. The difference between Brewers and Blus Jays are not that big, a super star bat and power bat are the difference. You can try to get the superstar bat from within since Brewers cant compete with other big market teams for that. But adding power bat like Naylor or Suarez is possible.

  8. Your previous show you went over awards but you didn't bring up Cmeback Player of the Year award. The reason I bring it up is because I think Yellich should win it. Hope they do not give it to Acuna. What do you think?

  9. I will never understand why players get money get money for not agreeing on a option.

The amount of money that brewers give away as dead money is just 🤷

  10. Extend Contreras, Sal and Brice.

We need another outfielder or 2, a shortstop. If I was in charge I would fast track Jesus made to short stop.

The pitchers, I dunno. It seems like the pitching lab can fix lots of players.

It just seems to me that the length of the season got to the brewers this season. They seemed out of gas once they hit the NLCS.
