Houston Astros miss the postseason! Is this the end?
I wonder whether the Astros what they’re feeling today because they did not make the playoffs for the first time since before their dynasty started in 2016. That’s how long it’s been. That’s how good they’ve been. They traded Kyle Tucker and everything was looking great for them. But then Seattle got super hot. Houston did not. And Houston got caught in the wild card and uh by the Guardians and Tigers and it was done. That was it. Houston wakes up this morning with very, very interesting decisions to make because acknowledging the reality that your dynasty is over absolutely sucks when you’ve had this window of greatness. Now, what we do is we have windows that open, windows that close, and trying to time the open windows, the closed windows. We want to be good when the ballpark opens, then we’re going to be bad. We’d like to be good again around an All-Star game. You’re always trying to time your windows, expand your windows, your open windows, but when you’re at a dynasty that includes multiple World Series championships, and then you wake up and look in the mirror and realize that it’s done, you’ve got two choices you can make. You can chase that feeling again immediately, or you can go back to what gave you that feeling to start with. If you recall what gave the Astros their dynasty, go back and you will see a string of 100 loss seasons. You will see a bunch of number one number ons who paid off and formed the core of this championship dynastic run. It’s really hard to go back to that as an owner or president. It’s probably super hard to do it as a fan base. Except what if they do it right again? As a fan, let’s just take the Mets as an example. If you had to suffer through three 100 loss seasons in a row to have a run like the Astros have had since 2017 to now, every fan of every team would take it. I don’t care what you tell me. You’re just lying to yourself. Three seasons, lose a hyundo, get two championships, be in the playoffs every year, lose in the World Series a couple times. Are you kidding? Sign me up this second. It’ll be interesting to note what Jim Crane does as owner of the Astros because that feeling that Jim Crane has this morning with no baseball to be played in October for the first time since 16, your first instinct is to say, “I need that feeling back right now. I need that another hit of that drug right now. Do something that gets that to me as soon as possible.” fighting that seven straight trips to the ALCS. There’s no way I’m going back. And that’s how you end up in a race to the middle and how you end up mediocre for years in a row and then the years turn into a decade and then that turns into two decades. The Houston Astros would be well served to start over completely in the way they showed they would be willing to all those years ago. Are they going to do that? Kok, no chance. There’s no chance because I know Jim Crane and I know that feeling and that feeling, that addiction, it is so strong. And then he’ll look back at this moment. This is the day. We all have a day in our careers, a day. September 29th will be the day Jim Crane looks back and chose to go left when he’ll realize he should have gone right. Congratulations to them, though. How do you not congratulate the Astros for what they’ve accomplished? You can talk garbage cans all you want. You can talk sign stealing. Fine. Don’t care. It’s It’s absolute success no matter how you slice it.

Have they lost that garbage can lovin feelin?😂
Astros missing the playoffs is good for baseball
the garbage can bang gang. Clearly needed access to more garbage cans this season.
They missed the playoffs by 1 game. They will retool in the areas needed and the party continues on next year.
Sadly Only one of those World series wins counts in the end because they decided to cheat.
Absolutely a dynasty. MLB record for injuries and fell one game short. Will be some changes, but expect next year- God willing- to be another elite, championship type year.
It couldn't have happened to a douchier group of cheating scumbags
tigers have a cheater manager they should be barred from playing too
No way we tank anytime soon…just continue to get younger
The window is closing. Might already be closed. Some may say it was closing last season
They’re an old team without a farm system
I agree with your assessment about starting over. It is really hard to trade fan favorites but it’s equally hard to watch the team get older and deteriorate
Eight is nice but not impressive. I think the Dodgers, this season, may have tied the record for most consecutive seasons with post season play? And appears it will go on for a while!!
HOOP
It’s insane how he didn’t once mention how injured this team was all year. I don’t think at any point where we fall 100% for longer than a week. I think next year if the chips fall sideways then maybe start thinking about rebuilding. But you cannot just think this team fell off.
From start to finish, this sounded like a personal vendetta, and not a true analytical position. Several holes in your excitement for the end.
you could see altuve declining years ago he is a little guy and little guys burn out faster then normal guys of height
The Astros fan base will be there for the Astros next year and will support them.
David, you are a legend my friend.
It’s not end of the world for Astros they just couldn’t overcome injuries the most in history and still was in it till last day of season . When healthy they proved they can beat anyone look what they did to Phillies, Dodgers and Cubs in three straight series they embarrassed them
It was done when Framber hit his own catcher with a pitch
Joe Espada and Dana Brown need to go. The club has had declining wins during each of the past three years, two of which Joe has managed. Under Joe, they have zero postseason wins. There is a team option in Dana's contract that hasn’t been picked up yet, per Bob Nightengale and Chandler Rome. I'm not sure why it hasn't been picked up. During the last two years, Crane exceeded the luxury tax while carrying the two highest payrolls in club history. Espada didn’t manage the White Sox or Rockies. In spite of injuries, he managed a team with experienced players who have won championships and who have been All-Stars. A result of zero postseason wins and no playoffs this season is unacceptable under Joe. And Dana has had 3 years. They both need to go. These are unacceptable results.
Houston will make the playoffs next season
The Cheater Astros missing the postseason is a great day in baseball history.
Maybe bring back the trash cans?
Astros ready to lose in the coming years, more than 100 defeats, let's see if they lower the tickets, having a bad team.
The last time the Astros didn't make the playoffs, people were saying there's no chance Trump would ever be president.
Four AL pennants, two World Championships. Quite a run.
😂they missed the division by 3-4 games and wild card by a game…..and they had a ridiculous amount of injuries…of course they will be back
First decision I would make is to tell the whole medical staff to hit the road along with the hitting coach and his approach to hitting.
They have the talent to keep winning. No reason to blow it up.
This is a horrible take. MLB is not like other sports as getting a top pick is much less likely to be a sure thing. In fact the Astros missed badly on 2 of their number ones and Bregman and Tucker both arrived after they were ascending. I do believe they need to be cautious in not trading prospects and also gathering more, but at the same time this is possible without all our collapsing. They should stay away from moves that mortgage the farm system and find ways to incorporate the young guys they have to see if there are any hidden gems. The Astros have a history of turning overlooked players into viable options, especially with regard to pitching. In my opinion the Astros should be patient and not overreact while putting together a team that can compete now and also develop for the future. If things go south, you reevaluate at the trade deadline.
This was a 100 win team, if it weren't for injuries. Yordan Alvarez (your best hitter) missed a 100 games, Paredes, who was leading the team in HR when he got injured, missed 50 games, Pena, who had a breakout year, missed at least 30 games, your centerfielder missed 50 games, arguably the best closer in the game this season (Hader), missed the last 3rd of the season, and they were missing the majority of their starting pitchers….relying on rookies and borderline MLB talent. They still won 87 games….which is what the "experts" predicted they'd have, WITH a healthy team. So in reality, they overacheived this season. Altuve and Walker are just about the only "old guys" on the team, as most of the core is still in their 20's or early 30's (Correa's 30). If they did, hit the reset button, and tear it down all the way, it'd be a quick turnaround, as they could get a lot of great prospects for Alvarez, Pena, Hunter Brown, and maybe even Yainer Diaz despite a disappointing year…he's only 26. But, I don't think that's what's going to happen. As long is Altuve is there, Crane is gonna keep trying to win, and I think Altuve still has 3 years left on his deal. They've got a lot of money coming off the books, so they're probably going to go hard after starting pitching. If they're healthier next year, they'll most likely win the division again.
