  1. Was an absolute pleasure to watch my hometown Blue Jays defend their 1World Series title back in 1993 that saw four members of that team eventually punch their ticket to Cooperstown!

  2. Maybe Vladdy, Bo, and Ernie will recreate this next year. Really doubt it but need a bit of hope this week lol

  3. Olerud flirted with .400 batting average that year. Draft pick to the major leagues. Left the Jays for his hometown Seattle but should be included in the level of excellence.

  4. There were only 7 players in the major leagues that hit over .300 this year. 2 of them were Jays.

  5. The Jays have erased Alomar from existence. They ran a bunch of 92/93 championship run clips during the world series this year and he wasnt in them. Dude was legitimately their best player. I get he was a dick but also he was a great ball player.

  6. BA doesn’t matter. Tell me what their OBPs were.

(Olerud led the AL in OBP, and all three were above .400)

Totally stacked team.* My White Sox gave them a good series after 4 games, but their most reliable starters (Jack McDowell, Alex Fernandez) just weren’t up for the challenge.

Those Jays teams would be more appreciated for their greatness if the Yankees didn’t peel off 4 in 5 from 1996-2000. When the 90s wrapped and those silly “team of the decade” discussions were had, the Yankees rightfully won the discussion, but it was as though people forgot about the first half of the decade.

*And then they added Rickey Henderson mid-season. I know Rickey didn’t have great numbers for Toronto, but just imagine staring at the top of the lineup. I know I kind of dissed McDowell and Fernandez, but it’s not like you can blame a pitcher for struggling against that lineup.

  7. As a fringe Braves fan at the time (a child living in Atlanta) I hated these guys Devon White and Joe Carter but as a baseball fan overall WAMCO was great.

  8. Olerud was a very good pitcher in college too… but more valuable with bat as position player.
