Let’s Change the Pelicans Narrative.

I got to admit, there’s not a single NBA player I’m rooting for harder than Derrick Queen. So, the Pelicans kind of screwed Derk Queen. We all know this by now because they traded their future unprotected first to move up to get him in the draft last year. And I swear I’m not trying to call anybody out, but I feel like every NBA content creator this week has made some sort of video like this, the dumbest team in the NBA. And it’s just like, yeah, okay, the trade probably wasn’t the smartest move. Is this really the most unique content you can come up with? Which is why, yeah, if DQ turns into a star, I mean, that would just be one of the coolest narrative switches we’ve ever seen. Not to mention, he is a DMV guy represent, he’s also basically an unathletic big man that has ridiculous guard skills. We should all be rooting for that kind of player to be elite. And after what we’ve seen from him in his last couple of games, including this near ISO Euroep dunk gamewinner against the Mavs last night, things are looking good. All I’m saying is I feel for Derek because it’s just not fair to him to be known as the guy traded for another guy because his GM thought he was

  1. SROS is just real about it, and he also has a Lot better takes than you do on a normal basis, so I don’t know why u gotta throw shade at him

  2. Keep in mind that they traded the 2026 Pacers pick to get that 2025 pick they used to trade up with Atlanta. Very possible that they traded two top 5 picks for him.

  3. I hope he does too, but that would represent "Mavericks getting Cooper Flagg after trading Doncic" levels of luck, not competency. No matter what Derik Queen turns into, the idea that you should trade two unprotected first round picks for essentially the 13th overall pick in a draft is ATROCIOUS process as a front office.

Its made even worse by the fact that one of those picks was going to be from the Pelicans or the Bucks, which at the time were both viewed as teams that absolutely had the possibility of being bottom 5 teams if things broke a certain way. The Pacers trade was less bad because nobody knew Hali would get hurt, but its still terrible process to make that deal when they are still playing games, when you could have simply waited until the finals were over just in case something happened and changed the value of the pick. If they had waited, they could have likely traded that pick by itself and got even higher than 13.

But don't put that on Derik Queen… This is ALL on Joe Dumars.
