While sometimes there seems to be lack of full transparency from the org, Footey sounds pretty honest and transparent here.

Demmer’s had hip and knee surgeries in the past, and that popliteus issue may still trigger other things.

I’m glad he’s taking the time and to not jeopardize himself for the rest of the season.

We’re only 15 games in this very condensed season, workloads needs to be managed very carefully.

  1. Foote may be a rookie coach, but his communication is always top notch. With players, media and fans.

No wonder Hughes has good things to say about him.

  2. I appreciate that level of transparency, and clear trust from management in allowing the player to be proactive and careful, without pressure to take risk, when they feel it is needed (no matter what triggers that need). I can respect this.

  3. He’s pretty much being load managed here. I’m glad the coach has come outright and said that. I hope he hasn’t triggered an injury again and it’s moreso a reduced workload instead. This isn’t as common in the NHL but quite common in the NBA, let’s just hope the organization is actually being truthful in this situation and he just needs like a week off or something.

  4. I want to take their word but this management hasn’t really built a lot of confidence in taking them for their word on these types of things.

  5. So he’s basically toast now that’s what you’re telling me!!?
I’m sure the sub won’t ge calling for his immediate trade because of this lol

  6. Say what you want about Foote hiring and his work so far, I love someone giving our media shitstorm some transparency and realness.

Especially after how big of a fucking disaster last year was with the drama, Rutherford making things worse etc.

  7. he hasn’t even played lately .. yet still needs time off? uh huh

signing him, seems to be a mistake, should let him play out his yr and let him walk OR trade the fragile guy … and keep the prospect goalie, Silovs (he’s working out fantastic for Pitts)

  8. I know it’s not the same injury, but I have a herniated disc in my lower back. Most of the time it isn’t an issue, but every now and then I start to feel the beginnings of reinjury and I have to rest it before it gets worse.

Over time, I learned to listen to my body and recognize the signs. It’s possible that this is the case with Demko, but unfortunately I don’t think it’s a sustainable strategy for someone in his profession.

  9. Everything in this statement makes perfect sense without over-explaining.

And I mean, kneejerks will jerk, but isn’t this the prime example of what we *want* with our injury-prone players? To tap out for some rest before they’re past the point of no return? I feel like everyone is forgetting how insane the schedule is this year. If Demko is going to make through that *and* play in the Olympics, he’s gotta take a breather here and there.

  10. As a longtime fan, I have to say that whenever there has been a chance of something great happening, it’s never really a certainty … but if there’s a chance of something bad happening, it has probably already started..

  11. Want to believe Foote here.. but in the past they haven’t been transparent at times. (Forbort maintenance is a perfect example) To be completely over dramatic here.. these back to back games this weekend are pretty important. Things are not looking good for our team right now, and I’m sure they’re feeling that, so I highly doubt Demko opts out of practice and this weekends games unless he’s injured. I would love for my take to be totally wrong though.

  12. I would be more upset at Demko trying to play 60 games this year.

We chose to give Lankinen 4.5m over keeping Silovs for this very reason.

  13. He’s waffling; Demko is injured. They would have needed to provide proof of it to the league in order to recall Patera. They could have just admitted to him having a minor injury (due to compensation, as Foote alludes to here but then for some reason denies after) and said he’s day-to-day, but instead they’re trying to justify his absence while also pretending he’s not (at least mildly) injured.

The burning question here is why they’re doing this excessive narrative management… and I would guess it has something to do with the direction fan sentiment is trending.

  14. Demko felt a tweak and communicated it to trainers that advised him to take time off for maintenance while also categorizing this as an injury so Patera could be recalled from Abbotsford on an emergency basis.

  15. All those words to say he’s developing new injuries from his body mechanics compensating for past injuries. Got it

  16. Anyone who plays sports understands rest days are important and not always emergencies. I’ve pulled my groin playing hockey and I can always tell when it’s about to happen again; those are days I rest and avoid the injury.

  17. At least this sounds like he may be a bit sore but not in the areas that were bothering him before. There is nothing wrong with giving the AHL goalies the odd game here and there as long as they are in the mix for a playoff spot.
