With the hot streak O’Reilly is on this season we might as well throw in the towel. Not sure how much credibility there is to this headline but it says his free agent contract is up this month. We’d definitely be losing a real one.

  1. You didn’t link the article, is it saying that he’s a trade candidate as in the Predators are shopping him or as teams want him? Because obviously there are teams that would like to have him

  2. He has been in trade rumors since last year when he was connected to a trade in New Jersey.

I’d say this season its a lot more likely though. Last year, Trotz obviously didn’t want to move him, but this year, feels more likely, especially after seeing Brock Nelson get moved for a pretty good package (top-10 protected 1st, top-6 projected prospect, and a conditional 3rd).

There would also be PLENTY of teams who would be interested and have assests that we could want; New Jersey, Montreal, and Carolina, just to name a few.

  3. Honestly? He’s one of my favorites on the team right now and I’d absolutely be devastated to see him go, but I’d be happy for him if he got dealt to somewhere that needs him. He’s so hard on himself all the time here and I don’t think it’s really all his fault. Too much of our success rides on him being effective

  4. How about no?! He’s actually good for the team, unlike two particularly overpaid wet blankets.

  5. People…. Don’t forget ‘news outlets’ have to shit out stories constantly

Believe the headlines at your own peril. I feel like taking headlines at face value was an obvious mistake starting 10 years ago….

  6. Unless he can play 60 minutes, we improve our PP, we pull together a serviceable defense, we should get what we can for him.

He has 1 years left at 4.5m… I don’t see his value staying the same next year (he will be 35-36?) and if this years draft has a strong top 10, we should be considering every offer and making every offer on all of our guys above 28.

I can’t believe we have Skjei on a NMC 5X7m contract until 2031. Can we fire trotz on this alone?

  7. people begging for this team to rebuild and then bitching about rumors of moves that would benefit a rebuild makes me laugh. yes ROR is basically the best player we have right now and i’d be devastated to see him go, but good lord after his post game comments last night i can’t help but want him to get out of this dogshit franchise. i’ve seen reports that the returns on centers this year could be huge, it’d be a no brainer if someone would throw a high 1st and a high level prospect at us for a 34 yo ROR.

  8. It would be malpractice for Trotz not to trade ROR. Yes he is still good, yes I like him, yes it will be a huge hole for us. But this team is 3-4 years from being a playoff threat and he will be neither a 1C nor likely be in Nashville at that time. We need to acquire as many assets as possible for him, Marchy, Haula, and Bunting this year. You never know if they’ll drop off or get hurt. Collect while the collecting is good.

  9. Trotz has said that he acts as if ROR has a no trade clause and he will not send him somewhere without talking to him first. I would hate to see ROR leave because I think he is great to have around the young guys and clearly has a great work ethic. But if he wants to go somewhere to potentially win another cup and the offer is great, then complettely understand it.

  10. It might be time to let him go and take another swing at a cup somewhere else. He sounded pretty upset after last game.

  11. I’m sticking to this position until I see any proof otherwise:

Ryan O’Reilly will play out his contract in Nashville.

He’s effectively the captain at this point. Him taking the fall for the Flyer’s game last night is proof. I think he stays on this team to mentor the kids.

I also have a conspiracy theory that part of why O’Reilly was given that contract is because him and/or Cal were promised a job on the team post-retirement (I think Cal playing for MKE was part of the deal, too). Cal has been in the AHL for like a decade and is playing in Europe at 40. No one rides the bus that long unless they live and breathe hockey. Dude will be an amateur scout in Alberta this time next year. O’Reilly I could see as a coach or GM down the line.

  12. There multiple trade rumors about multiple players. The most recent ones about ROR started after his self-flagellating media availability last night which people unfamiliar with the team assume is not a regular occurrence.
