Peter Schrager CONFIRMS THE RUMORS that Kyle Shanahan LOVES Mac Jones as the 49ers QB 😳 | Get Up

Just listen closely to this. I’m playing. I’m good to go. Good to go. Is this Is this a place you want to be? Yeah. Why has Has I said anything to not be here or Yeah. What do we take away from that? That Devonte Smith knew the right answer and AJ Brown refused to say it. Right. He didn’t have to say a lot. You could have said, “Yes, this is where I want to be the rest of my career.” whether it’s true or not because it’s where your feet are now. But he’s just in this place where there’s this this this this touch of defiance right there. This this part of him that just won’t do the right thing. There is an unhappiness that seems to underline anything that he’s asked or anything that he says because we all know that sometimes you just tow the company line so you can get along to get along and go win football games and he just refused to do that. That’s boring, man. Listen, he’s he’s can’t get right off life, man. Like, he know what he’s supposed to say. That was my ball head, man. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t know what’s wrong. Something wrong with his head or something. He just can’t get right. Listen, he know what he’s supposed to say. But at this point, I think he’s just trolling us, right? And he doesn’t want to give the uh reporters there what they want. So, he’s giving them juice. He’s giving him controversy. He’s giving him uncertainty. He wants to be there. Where else would he want to be? He’s won a Super Bowl. He’s got paid to bag. It’s nothing for him to be upset about other than reading a book on the side. I remember I was covering the Super Bowl in 2012, so that dates me a little bit. But Marshawn wasn’t talking and Michael Robinson, his fullback, would say, “All questions come to me.” And it became almost like a comedy act, like they’re having fun with this. But Marshon didn’t want to speak to the media, right? AJ Brown does not want to speak to the media right now. He’s seen his name being dragged in the mud a million times a week. I don’t even want to pay attention to this, but I will do it because I have to. To that point, being at his locker asking him that question, it’s like, “All right, well, this is what’s going to happen if you’re going to tweet after the games.” Well, you guys are players, and so I’m just curious. I’ve had it suggested here that the Eagles are a team that kind of thrive on the drama. Yes. That there are some teams that are broken apart by the drama. It takes them apart. It becomes the dreaded quote unquote distraction. And that some teams kind of thrive on a little bit of this. I’m not sure if the right word against the world. It’s like we love the hate. We thrive off the hate. We make up things to be upset about. We create that space. But his upset but this ain’t even nothing to be upset about. like this isn’t the world being upset with the Philadelphia Eagles. This isn’t the world creating some narrative that doesn’t exist. This is him, right? And I like AJ Brown. I think he’s mature. I think he has great awareness. And because I believe those things, I know that he knows exactly what’s going on. And it’s not one of those things where they have to galvanize the team around AJ so they can go win football games. They have a quarterback that would thrive in anything cuz he never changes. You don’t have He never gets too high. He never gets too low. And you got a coach in Nick Serriani and I’m sure y’all could speak to this that can flat out coach and we never talk about how good he is. And so to me, the Philadelphia Eagles don’t need distractions to be good. They need everybody to understand what that playbook says and execute. Let me ask you another question. And I’ve had it suggested that perhaps after all of the wear and tear that um I think Bart you may have said this early in the season after all the wear and tear of a 200y season on Saquon Barkley last year that there has been a concerted effort on their part to ease him back into this season slowly and then ramp it up as we start to get towards the more meaningful part of the season. Do you have a sense of that? Well, we’ll see. They’re coming off a 10-day rest right now. They get obviously the Monday night game and Saquon does not have the same numbers, same carries or any of that. And what we have seen from this Kevin Patulo offense is that they’re not predictable. So two games ago, Jaylen Herz threw for 330 yards. The last time we saw them, Saquin ran for 234 yards. So we come out of the buy. We don’t know what they are. And I would imagine Saquon healthy going to play is going to get a lot more love in the offense. The best thing that could have happened for Philadelphia is the rest of the division failing to show up this year because now they have time to sit there and cushion these things out. Maybe we want to go to AJ, maybe we don’t. Maybe we want to arrest Saquon. Doesn’t matter. Washington’s not pushing them. Dallas isn’t pushing them. The Giants aren’t pushing him. They’re in the driver’s seat and they’re comfortable. Right. All I would say is this, Rico D. Right? If you watch that film last week of the Green Bay Packers and you say to yourself, “How do I neutralize Micah Parsons, run the football, how do we keep this offense off the field, run the football. And if you have to start stacking that box to stop Saquon Barkley, Jaylen Hurst has shown you over the last few weeks, he can absolutely carve you up.” How about you guys on Monday nights? Before you do the himmies, Scott Vanpel every once in a while has to quote save the graphic. I go the other way. I just pick against what everyone else thinks. Funny on the Rams here. Open as a three-point favorite. Got bet up to four and a half for a few key reasons. Number one, the Rams are power ranked very high, held in high regard by the bookmakers. The only team in the NFL that ranks top six in both offensive and defensive EPA. They bring a lot of balance to the table. Number two, the Niners and the injuries. They’re banged up on both sides of the ball. That defense’s pass rush is non-existent to all the injuries. Stafford should have a field day. And number three, there is the revenge angle that some lead into. You go back a few weeks ago to that game. You got to put them on it. Put it on him at some point. I could see the Rams really opening it up here. Ryan Clark, I’m going to ask you a question because I feel like it’s been suggested here a little bit. Are the Los Angeles Rams, when push comes to shove, the best team in the NFL? No. No. And Bart’s over here shaking his head. I thought I was the hater. Now you making making noise. He’s got his resting linebacker face. You know what? It’s it’s it’s much like Peter mentioned about teams winning games against the lower level teams in this league. We’re going to learn a lot about the Los Angeles Rams in the next few weeks. The NFC West is such a tough division. They’re going to see the 49ers. They’re going to see the Seahawks. They’re going to get opportunities to play in these huge games. You think back to the biggest game they’ve had this season. It was against the Philadelphia Eagles, which they dominated for most of it and couldn’t find a way to finish it. Matthew Stafford is playing at an MVP level. Maybe better than I’ve ever seen him play. 37 years old. Yeah. They’re going to get an opportunity down the stretch, but at this point, to me, the championship still runs through Philadelphia. Can I also add on that this weekend in particular, and I and I would look at it this way, if you look at the the 49ers roster in the preseason in their third game, that’s their defense this week with all the injuries they’ve had. So, I would almost say yes, there’s this rivalry game, but I wouldn’t get too infl too inflated about the Rams if they beat this version of the 49ers. It is not the version that we saw a couple weeks ago. I walk by faith, not by sight sometimes. And listen, I know I believe in my heart that, you know, uh, Matthew Stafford is the best quarterback in the NFL. If I need to trust somebody to win me one game, it’s going to be Matthew Stafford. And now he’s starting to get that chemistry with Devonte Adams. They’re starting to have that non-verbal communication. He leads the league in like two-point touchdown passes like and now with him and Puka Nakua I think that that gives him such a dynamic team. They’re the most balanced team in the NFL. When you talk about who do I trust defensively and offensively I think it’s the the Los Angeles Rams. You can’t love the the Colts and then not like the Rams because the Rams did beat that team. So if you’re high on the Colts this year that’s a marquee win for the Rams. You know what else? You know you talking about oh this the guy I trust the most. You know who he ain’t beat the last two times he played him? Jaylen. Yeah, but that don’t mean he shouldn’t have. It don’t it don’t always end that way. You should know that for me personally. Can I ask one other slightly unrelated question because it came up here yesterday and I I feel like it’s something worth watching. Is it possible that the 49ers are at some point going to decide they want M. Jones to be their quarterback? And if they start heading in that direction, what happens? If they win this weekend and they’re suddenly seven and three and M. Jones has this. I don’t I don’t know a world where Kyle Shanahan just says, “Well, it’s Brock’s.” So, it’s a very interesting conversation. What I would note is this. Brock Party is injured. Like, that is a real injury. How? So, well, that’s fair to ask. I can play injured or Yeah. Just The other wrinkle to it is I’ve covered Kyle since he was in Houston and Cleveland. This isn’t someone who’s obsessed with how much are we paying this person or what do we do? The best quarterback for this team will play. Peter, can I ask you a question? You you you report and you talk to these teams. How much truth was there to the rumors about M. Jones being someone they liked during the draft where they drafted Tre Lance? That’s very real. And it was both he and his father both had an eye on him. And at the end of the day, Tre Lance’s athleticism blew them away in a workout in in North Dakota. This might be the guy he’s pondered and wanted for all along. That’s the thing. Who can you find to be the sucker to take that massive contract? Because we don’t know if Brock Purie can play outside of that system. We have the same questions about Brock Perie that we have about Joe Burrow because we’ve seen Joe Flacco come in at 40 years old and put I’m not Joe Burrow at all. Who’s questioning Joe Burrow? Not Joe Burrow was the first overall pick. What I’m saying is we see a 40-year-old former Raven putting up same numbers and Joe Burrow is worth like 200 more million. Hey, you feel all this all that hate in your heart? That’s because he didn’t play like that when he played us in the playoffs. Guess what? Guess what? That’s the problem. Guess what? It’s a ice box where my heart used to be. Okay, Marion. All right, that was a comparison I did not see coming. Let me get one more of these in here. Uh, one more reading between the lines for Fortonbball. Here we go. The Vikings are a 4 and a half point underdog at home against the Ravens. I find this a confounding spread. JJ McCarthy is 2-0 outright in his young career as the betting underdog. He’s played a total of three games. So, take that for what it’s worth. What What should I take away from this number? Stop looking at the record. The record is not who Baltimore is. The power ranking is who Baltimore is. This is a much better team than the record indicates. Number one. Number two, 10 days to get ready for this game. Number three, there’s not a lot of faith in JJ McCarthy right now, especially when it comes to the betting market. He’s winning games, yes, but the win against Chicago, the numbers were terrible outside of the fourth quarter. The game last week against Detroit, that Lions offensive line fell apart. And the thing with the Lions, if everything isn’t running perfectly, golf’s never going to bail you out. You saw it again last week. I think that’s unfair to what they did, Joe. Honestly, I I they went into Detroit very much McCarthy. McCarthy was when in Nad most third and five hits the play. They won the game. I mean, I hear what you’re saying whether it’s McCarthy or not. So, now we’re having two different conversations. Correct. One of them is about JJ McCarthy. Let’s table that for a minute. We’re putting the picks on the screen. That’s an impressive win for Minnesota. I think it was impressive. I think they’re at home. I also think we look at the box score and I mentioned this earlier in the show. We look at the numbers of what the Ravens did last week. We say, “Oh, they blew out Miami. They’re back.” They really struggled in that first half against a bad Dolphins team and now I say they’re going into Minnesota. Let’s just not crown the Ravens just yet. Final thoughts. Well, listen, the Ravens are starting to figure it out. Like we talk about the biggest and most important piece that they got back with uh Patrick Ricard because he opens up everything. He’s the eyes for for uh for Derrick Henry. He’s also a guy that gives you crazy personnel issues. And now with Kyle Hamilton being able to be the chess piece, he’ll probably be over TJ Hawinson this week. They can use him to take away what you do best. I mean, honestly, right now, we’ve seen JJ McCarthy play two good quarters and a throw. Yeah. Right. And so, what you what are you going to do against this defense that’s now become so much more multiple since they acquired Alohi Gilman and I don’t care how it looked in the first half, what we saw from Lamar Jackson in the second half with his ability to pass from the pocket, use the play action game, and then now a week and a half healthier, I expect the Baltimore Ravens to play extremely well. They have extra West obviously coming off that Thursday game. Really interesting game. It’s a great weekend of NFL. I I shudder to think how many people looking at that and don’t know what it is, but they do not know what that’s My kids would have no idea what that is. RC, I obviously have a particular interest in Saus Gardener being traded to the Indianapolis Colts. So, give me a mathematical equation. The Colts plus extra sauce equals what? Super Bowl contender. And not just the team that can get to the Super Bowl, a team that can win the Super Bowl. They obviously feel this way because the way Daniel Jones has performed in this offense along with Jonathan Taylor, Alec Pierce, also Pitman Jr. and obviously Tyler Warren being an absolute stud at the tight end position. Lou Honorumo has done a great job with this defense that’s lost a ton of players this year, but now you add sauce, a true number one, and the versatility along with our various war returning is huge. But it allows you to take away the team what a team does best and it allows Lou to be able to identify what matchups you want to exploit. And really Lou was brought in there for one team and that’s for the Kansas City Chiefs and they know they’re on a collision course and he’s he identified Sauce as a piece that he wants to try and win a championship. So there were a lot of people there a lot of Jet F it’s become kind of fashionable to dump on Sauce Gardner a little bit a lot of penalties. He started his career so extraordinarily good. I’ll remind everyone who doesn’t know Bart you cover them every single day. you did the postgame show and all that stuff. Just how good a player are the Indianapolis Colts getting? I think they’re getting a tremendous player. I think they give a a guy that was asked to do certain things under solid system. He wasn’t asked to travel. He proved that he could travel. Now he struggled. He’s given up a couple of big plays. Really, his physicality is what hurt him this year. I think being able to come up and make tackles and set the edge as teams are trying to force him to tackle. I think he has to show that up. But exactly. But you talk about his his defense radius. He’s like a 6-3 corner that can match up with all these big guys and he’s a guy that’s elite. You don’t just become two-time allp pro by by mistake and he’s still young and getting better. I I would note that the Jets were not shopping S Gardner by any means. The Jets liked Sauce Gardner. This was one of those godfather deals where Chris Balor kept on offering more and more and more and the Jets actually got more in compensation for for S Gardner than what the Cowboys got for Micah Parsons. So that tells you what they value and that if you like AD Mitchell, who I actually sort of Yeah, I think that’s big that what the Jets got, but also I think a lot of people dump on Sauce cuz he started so excellent, right? And you’re expecting a guy to get better and better and better, but everybody has a cap or everyone has a ceiling. And for Sauce Gardner, you were expecting this exponential growth from a dude that walked in as one of the best corners in all of the NFL. I think the Jet fans candidly have been spoiled by watching Derell Rivas and they thought, “Oh, we got the next Revas.” But he did something that even Reevas never did. Two-time allp pro, your first two years is tremendous, especially dealing with what he had on the other side of the ball. All right, so the Colts make the big trade. The Chiefs didn’t. So my next RC rewind is, do you think the Chiefs missed an opportunity this? Absolutely. The Chiefs missed an opportunity when you played the Buffalo Bills and realized that when the Buffalo Bills are at their best, there is nothing that you could do with them. You couldn’t get to Josh Allen. Josh Allen was basically perfect last week against the Kansas City Chiefs. And it’s because they can’t create pressure. Chris Jones is no longer the oneman wrecking crew that he used to be. So now Steve Spagnola has to commit extra people to the rush in order to put pressure on the quarterback. And Josh Allen went absolutely crazy. If you want to win, you got to stop the Allens. You got to stop the Lamar Jacksons. And without a pass rush, you can’t do that. But I wasn’t disappointed because they didn’t get to Josh Allen. What I was disappointed about is they couldn’t exploit a leaky Buffalo Bills rush defense. that opportunity to go get Bree Hall who would have completed the entire puzzle. You talk about how do you beat Lamar Jackson, how you beat Josh Allen by keeping they ass on the bench because I got time of possession. I’m moving the chains. I think that was the biggest loss that they decided not to come off a fourth round draft pick. They want to come on a third round draft pick to get Breaks to close the deal. What do you think, Peter? We’ll see if it haunts them or not. I think a lot of people thought they were going to make a move for a running back here because at the end of that game, and no shade to any of those players, you’re dealing with Kareem Hunt, Pacheo, and Clyde Edward, and it doesn’t seem like they have the same pop that they used to in the last championship runs, but they are 10 toes down. They are with their guys, and they are not making a move for running. Peter, how much of that is we’ve been there and done? Like, we’ve found ways to win when people think we’re lacking. No doubt. And that was at the wide receiver spot last year. Everyone thinks that we need this, we need that, we need this, we’re going to roll with our guys. The feel has improved. It’s different. What happened last year, what you could do last year, doesn’t mean you can do it this year. Chiefs remain the toughest team to pick against. All right, last one. RC, do you believe your buddy Dan Olowski said it here yesterday, do you believe Kyler Murray has played his last game, started his last game, if you will, for the Cardinals? Absolutely. And sometimes you can tell by the conversations you have. You know, I had got the opportunity to speak with him and he’s like, you know, it’s it’s healing. But you could see in him he spoke to him talking to him and he was like he was like yeah it’s healing but you could see there wasn’t any confidence in that. Not saying that he’s still hurt or he’ll be too hurt to return. You can tell that the tide is changing around that building. When you speak to people on that team the superlatives they use to describe Jacobe Brassette aren’t superlatives that you should be pointing out about a leader or a quarterback. The professionalism, the way he leads, the way he communicates. It’s saying to me that we weren’t getting these things and now we are. I had a similar takeaway. We were there together on Monday and a lot of the Cardinals people were just so positive and affusive appraise of Jacobe that you’re like, but I’m looking at that guy over there and we’re not talking about him. Well, he is injured. He’s got the foot and he’s going to be put on IR. The contract is tricky. That’s the only issue. The contract is tricky, but in a post Russell Wilson world where we’ll figure it out. We’ll rip the band-aid off and we’ll go from there. I think anything is possible and they could move on. And I will note this. This owner is still paying Cliff Kingsbury his full salary. This owner is still paying Steve Kim, a general manager who was fired two years ago, his full salary. The new brass, they did not select Kyler Murray. This is not their precious idol. Final word, Bart. I mean, listen, sometimes it’s just time and it may be time for Kyler Murray. Kyler Merrick Murray is extremely talented. I think he’s one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the league. Now, he had to mature a little bit and maybe, you know, a fresh start would be great for him. He can be one of these, you know, reclamation projects in one of these stories that we love. Yeah. Baker Bayfield, first pick in the draft, reclamation, whatever the thing is. Sam Donald, third pick. Here’s Kyler Murray. First pick in the draft. All right, we’re rolling.

  1. It's simple. Jalen Hurts simply isn't a high volume passer. Winning or not, most all pro level receivers want the ball. Prime Randy Moss, T.O and Jerry Rice would have an issue with Hurts too.

  2. We don't know what Brock would be like outside this system. I personally don't think he'd be good. Even Garoppolo was able to get to a SB and NFCC game in this system and he didn't have CMC. Remember that after they got CMC, Jimmy G went 4-0 before getting hurt and we've all seen what he's like outside of this team. He's terrible. Many Niners' fans don't want to hear this, but Purdy was the last pick of the draft for a reason. He's undersized at 6'0. He has a below average NFL arm combined with small hands and isn't all that mobile, meaning he's no Josh Allen or Lamar. But thats not where the controversy is because if you're asked who's the better QB, Mac or Brock, you may get different answers depending on who you ask. The controversy is that one is set to make $53M next season, while the other will make $4M. That fact that there is such a huge discrepancy in pay, there shouldn't even be a discussion on who is better. You can ask that of most other fanbases and there would be no hesitation with their answer. Stafford or Garoppolo? Hurts or Mckee? Mahomes or Minshew? Goff or Allen? And so on.

  3. I hate the eagles. But AJ Brown was asked a stupid question and gave them the answer they deserve. He hasn’t said anything about wanting out of Philly, people just like to make drama in the media.

  4. Mac is having a good run. They can keep him in until Purdy is 100%.
Kyle has coached up the back-ups and third stringers.
The 49ers are starting to scare the "experts" who doubted them.
So here come the narratives and drama.

  5. I get the feelin with AJ Brown. This isn’t necessarily a Philadelphia Eagles thing more than this is a jalen hurts thing. I don’t think that he likes playing with Jalen hurts. I think that him and Devonta Smith are a great one two combo at WR I don’t think he likes this offense and I don’t think that he likes his quarterback though and that’s something that the Eagles definitely have to address. They’re not getting rid of Jalen hurts obviously that’s quite clear but how can we involve or open up the playbook more or whatever it is, they need to do how do they do? That is the real question

  6. Think about this AJ did not want to leave Tennessee, I believe he want to go back there with Cam Ward!! Knowing he’ll be the number one receiver! But also knowing that he would be apart, a main part of resurrecting the team! He is a competitor! He already have his Super Bowl!

  7. Ryan Clark is hot garbage! All that nonsense about “hate in a heart” yet dude is one of the biggest racists and hateful people on tv today.
    Do better espn

  8. Please don't have a bookie on your show. Isn't it bad enough that Graham Gano is getting death threats from sports bettors? It's bad enough that the NFL is knee-deep in gambling because of their greed. You, Mickey and Minnie shouldn't add to it.

  9. If Kyler's done in AZ there'll be no shortage of teams going after him this offseason. He has top 10 QB talent potential, surely some GM and coach elsewhere will swear they can coax that out of him….

  10. Funny. Every time I said they shouldn't have paid Purdy and gone with Mac from day 1, I got dragged for it. 53 million was always too much. They're getting as good performance from Jones at 4 million. Could have saved themselves 50 million and spent it on actual star players.

  11. The Eagles are fine and preserving Saquon for the latter part of the season. The 49ers are doing the same with CMC and are adding their key players a little bit at a time towards the latter part of the season too. JJ McCarthy hasn't played a full season yet…..so there are questions. Team has good chemistry with Mac Jones and Kyle is going with that vibe! The Raven are going to be fine for the rest of the season. It is going to be a thrilling latter part of the season.
