Just heard about our potential connections to Shannahan. How would we feel if Pegula finally opened his third eye to the state of the team and hired a real president of hockey operations. I get that his tenure with the Leafs ended less than stellar but he took that squad from bottom of the barrel laughing stock to a perennial playoff appearance. I think it’s more of a question on whether our chicken shit owner actually cares enough to see this situation improve. Heard he’s also connected to Nashville and Chicago and I’ll be VERY upset if we fuck this up.

  1. This only seems plausible in a world of mass psychosis where the pariah named Pegula abdicates his false throne.

  2. Instead of hiring someone as a GM manager to fix the shitty GM, why don’t we just hire them as GM to replace the shitty GM

  3. On top of the fact that Terry is not giving anyone total control, he has never actually said anything about considering Buffalo. He said that he wanted to come back to the NHL and then some “insider” linked him to Buffalo with as far as I’m aware no real source.

Not to mention would he even be good here? Yes he was able to turn around the Leafs but he was also able to get big name FAs to sign in Toronto and didn’t have to worry about NTC and NMCs making players totally unavailable as Toronto is just a better market and the hometown of a sizable chunk of the players.

  4. I’ve always found him hypocritical, since he played kinda dirty and now has a platform on player safety.

  5. The fact that he said he’d be interested with full autonomy just illustrates how clear it is, even to outsiders, that terrys grip on the reigns is white knuckled

  6. I need to dig up where I heard it, I think Marek’s new podcast “the sheet,” but I heard an anecdote that Shanahan (or associates) reached out to Terry (or associates) last offseason to take the temperature on whether he was thinking about bringing in a president of hockey ops. The response was, essentially, that Terry considered himself to be the president of hockey ops.

I don’t think anything short of (a) an unfiltered assessment on the state of the team by Ruff or (b) requests for another mass exodus by key members of the team would put Terry in a mindset where he’d question the structure and communication requirements of the organization. The fact that they’re probably materially unprofitable exacerbate his unwillingness to shake things up.

So, at the end of the day, I’d welcome Shannahan, especially if would create a structure where a GM of his choosing wouldn’t have to explain every signing, trade, and draft pick to Pegula on daily calls. That said, I’ll believe it when I see it. I actually think the probability of Adams getting extended is higher than Pegula bringing in a POHO.

  7. Wasn’t there a rumor that Shanahan was approached about working UNDER Adams? If that’s true, I’m not sure how he’d feel with us circling back.

Also, if they fire Adams, it’ll just be to promote Jarmo. They built that cushion as cheaply as they could.

  8. Fuck no, you think the people around him in Toronto were ass imagine him here with an owner who doesn’t listen to shit. His “shannaplan” amounted to how many first round exits and cash strapping the leafs with stupid contracts only to finally send the most egregious contract on the team and notorious entitled cry baby mitch marner to vegas. Great plan

  9. At this point the NHL needs to take over the Sabres and put their own people in. Get rid of The absent Pegulas and fire everyone in the offices

  10. I do think the plan is Ryan Miller. Because they know him. They only go with guys they know. Or people they know that can vouch for the guys they know. They don’t go with people they don’t know anymore. You know?

  11. He had a staff of 150 in the hockey department in Toronto with all the resources in the world at his disposal and how did that go ?
He also may have suffered with owner interference and never let the person the owner hired to do his job.
Apparently that a problem in more than just Toronto!

  12. Not sure how I’d feel. I suppose it would be a step up though, from consistently missing the playoffs to consistently being eliminated in the first round

  13. It’s been reported that Shanahan called Buffalo asking about a President of Hockey Ops Role, and Terry said told him that he was his (Terry’s) job.

  14. You’ve gotta be a sadistic son of a bitch to be the sole reason your alleged childhood team will never find succes and just be like “the answer is in the room.”

I don’t like the things that man makes me wish on another human being.

  15. I’m down, as a Leafs enjoyer Shannahan did a great job building the Leafs into a serious organization. The problem was that he overstayed his welcome. He’s like a rebuilding coach, he’s not there to take you to Finals. He’s there to breakdown the foundation and rebuild it for a better future. As long as Shanny doesn’t stay for too long and is willing to adapt the Shannaplan and Pegula doesn’t interfere too much then it could work.

  16. Nope. When he was in charge of player safety he had a choice of nutting up and doing what it takes to get the job done. He folded quicker than a tortilla in Mexican restaurant.

The Sabres don’t need someone that folds when personal money is on the line, they need someone that’s willing to do what it takes. He’s folded to the NHL, he’s folded to the Laffs, we already have plenty of people that fold. Not interested, thanks.
