Mason Miller on his absurd postseason, throwing 104 mph and Padres do or die vs the Cubs

Mason, were you waiting for the playoffs to go against 104 milesPH? Not necessarily, but the adrenaline helps. What’s this experience been like for you pitching the playoffs for the first time? It’s exciting. I mean, we’ve been treating every game as such for a while, but um yeah, to be here in front of a a crowd that’s living in dying with every pitch, it’s pretty exciting. I mean, velocity is one thing, but locating is something else. It looks like you’re putting the fast ball pretty much where you want to right now. Is there you feel like you can pretty much command it however you want to? Yeah, I mean I think I’ve I’ve spread it around a little bit too, but yeah, I think I think commanding it’s been a huge part of, you know, the these last two games for me. Um, and the slider of being effective as well. Xander said that he was looking back behind you and just kind of laughing a little bit when you were going that hard. It’s like it’s just it’s it’s not fair to to have your guys thinking that, you know, and knowing your team. What’s that make you feel? Yeah, I I love the support that these guys have, you know, for each and every guy in this clubhouse. But, you know, to have have the feelers behind me say things like that is pretty pretty nice feeling. For like for the vast majority of the world and never throw a ball that hard, what’s it? Can you explain to us what it’s like to throw the ball like that fast, 104 and a half miles an hour? I mean, you have to have confidence in it, but I mean that’s that’s my fast. It’s, you know, my my normal, I guess. But that’s a good feeling thrown by a guy. You’re the first guy to ever strike out the first eight batters in their postseason debut. Does that mean anything to you? No, not right now. I mean, individual awards aren’t why any of us are here. So, it’s just about doing our part to help the team win. And we’ll give ourselves a chance tomorrow and we’re going to come back and do our best to win the game again. Given how much you’ve thrown in the first two games, what’s your availability tomorrow? Whatever whatever show he needs. I think that’s how we all feel. It’s it’s the playoffs. So, um you know, they’ll consider that and try to still put us in advantageous spots. What’s it like being part of this bullpen with you and Robert, all the tools you guys have out there? Yeah, it’s it’s fun. I mean, it it’s beneficial for all of us that we’re we’re able to match up and, you know, Mo’s been so good um with lefties, righties, you know, and his efficiency has really made him super valuable, too. But, um, you know, everybody’s ability to go one plus has been really helpful, too. Is the postseason what you thought it would be, what you hoped it would be? I mean, I think you have your ideas on what something is, but until you go out there and play, you know, that that feeling is not something that can be replicated, for sure. you, brother. What gives this team the confidence to play so well with their backs up against the wall? And how do you guys feel going into an elimination game tomorrow? I mean, today was an elimination elimination game for us, too. So, um, you know, each game’s important, but you know, you feel the weight of of games like today. Um, and tomorrow, you know, we we shifted the balance back, so it’s going to be a winner or take all tomorrow. Thanks, Mason. Thank you. Christ.

  1. To those who felt 'we gave up too much to get him"?…do you REALLY feel that way? DeVries may very well become a great ballplayer. We won't know for some time. But baseball fans, in situations like this one, tend to forget the ENTIRETY of a trade sometimes…or what BOTH teams are really getting. So, the fact is this. Preller traded, arguably, his best prospect for the nastiest reliever in the game, next to Arnold is Chapman..and he gets 4 yrs of control with Miller b4 the big fella gets to free agency. So that means you get 4 shots at deep postseason runs, with him, at bargain basement prices. (relatively affordable arbitration money). Trading for Mason Miller was a no-brainer. And even tho' The Network kept saying Preller would trade Cease/Suarez after getting Mason, I knew in my gut he wouldn't do that. Keeping Suarez makes them nastier, with Miller there too.

  2. Y'all are such a bad team lmfao 😂 care way more about appearances and looking cool than winning. You went all in, AGAIN, and came up empty handed. Truly a pathetic organization from top to bottom. The culture in the Padres clubhouse is atrocious, hence why multiple players opt to sign elsewhere in California. Sad. 9 total post season appearances, and your "rival" is on their 13th STRAIGHT post season appearance.
