New York Islanders Postgame Availability | NYI 2 vs MIN 5 (11/07/25)

you know, I don’t think it’s a it’s definitely not a a system error or, you know, um a structure error. Um it’s just it’s just at the end of the day, we just got to make the plays. Um make the make the crisp passes, make the the play that’s there. you know, I feel like we shoot ourselves in the foot all the time, you know, on our mistakes that we make um you know, as individuals and um you know, it ends up in the back of our net and you know, sometimes you just need to make the simple play and um you know, it’s just kind of what happens when we’re at our best is when we’re making crisp passes. We’re we’re all connected. We’re all together. Um and we just weren’t tonight. Is a game like this a little bit of a jolt or wakeup call or whatever phrase you want to use going into a long road trip? I think we can use it as that. I mean, you know, I don’t I don’t think one guy in that room tonight is happy with the way they played or um how we were as a team. I think everybody’s got better. Everybody knows we have better and um it should bring fuel to the fire for tomorrow knowing that we have to be at our best. What allowed them to jump to that two nothing lead early in the game. I think just I mean, you know, the I thought we played pretty well in the first five minutes. you know, we we’re out shooting them and I felt like we’re out playing them and then, you know, they get that one and our job is to kind of weather that storm and I don’t think we did a good enough job of of going back at them um and pushing for the next one and they just kept coming after that and we just kept digging ourselves a bigger hole and um it’s a tough one to get out of. Well, I don’t think we executed well at all. I think we were clearly off from the get-go. Um, and when you have nights like that, you just got to find a way to simplify things and and and put it behind them and test the goalie and play a simple game when, you know, we’re step off of one another or bounce off of one another. And uh, that kind of was a consistent theme throughout the game. I think we were just we were off and, you know, if we can’t when we struggle to break the puck out and we struggle with our turnovers, it’s going to be a long night. So, I think we we put a we made it tough on ourselves. Was it something they were doing? I mean, they had a puck tonight. They had a good forch check. There’s no doubt about it. Most teams do. Um and when we get ours going, we do, too. So, uh we just didn’t break it nearly enough to come out with enough possession. And um like I said, I thought we were off tonight. Wasn’t a good game. We didn’t play a good game. And uh I think the score was evident of that. What do you do now with the back to back tomorrow? How how do you bring that energy tomorrow? I mean, you have to reset. We got a big one tomorrow. Um big rivalry game, you know. uh energy should be there and and let’s go reset and you know wipe this one away. But you know that’s just this the recipe tonight wasn’t going to work for us and uh we’re going to have to play a much better game tomorrow night if we want to have success. We got in trouble a bit you know turning some pucks over uh including myself and uh that can happen against a team like that that has some you know great skill. Um I I I think that was it. managing the puck, breaking out the puck uh a little better and we have a good chance to, you know, regroup right away and and get right back at it tomorrow. What allow them to jump to that two nothing lead early in the game? Well, they scored, you know, after right after. So, it’s uh uh it was tough. I thought the our spirit, our mentality was good. We, you know, we kept pushing uh kept pushing um until the last 20, of course, uh you know, we we cut the lead and you know, we had some some momentum at the end of the period. So, um, just didn’t didn’t go the way we wanted. And, uh, like I said, we have to regroup and we have a good chance to regroup right away. Patrick, what did you see or not see tonight? Well, I’ll say I thought we had a good good start. Um, and then when they scored that first goal for some reason, I mean, that gave them some some momentum. And I thought after that they were the better team. Um they were better than us on on on on the battles. Um they took advantage of our turnovers. Um so they played uh they played a better game that we did. Did you think, you know, when PJO scores that goal at the end of the period that that was going to give some life? Absolutely. There’s nights where you think you could get back in the game and then when we had that little buzz, a little push at the end of the the third the second period, sorry. Um, we had a couple looks and missed the net on on one of them or two of them and then Bo had a chance in front of the net. So, I thought that we score there could be a 4-3 game and be back in that game. So, but we weren’t one shot away to be back early in the third period and we just couldn’t get anything going tonight. Why do you think the the passing in particular was a little problematic? You know, the what the passing it seemed like execution you mean? Yeah, it wasn’t tape to tape. You know, passes were off the in the in the feed or they were behind. Yes. How does that snowball through through a course of a game? Well, I guess you got nights like this. You have nights where you’re you’re on and there’s nights where you’re not on and and tonight I thought as a group we we didn’t execute. We didn’t compete as good as they did. And and um I’m not looking for excuses for our group, but I just feel like tonight they were just a better team. I I know you know at times the the slot was left a little open. They got you going side to side, but the way David played tonight. What What did you think of his game? I thought it was good. I mean, he made a really good save at the end of the second period when they they were um their D jumped in um back door. That was a great save and we scored right after made it 4-2. So, but I the chance that we gave them I mean we definitely know we need to be better, isn’t it? How do you evaluate Romanov and D’Angelo right now? I’ll say this, as a group, we didn’t had a great game. And I’m going to leave it to this. I mean, I got a lot of confidence in these guys and and I know that um was probably not their best game, but I mean, at the same time, I mean, I know how good they are and what they could do for this team. Did Did you see anything when you switched the lines and you know, we were playing with them a little in the third period. Did you see anything that No, it didn’t did not really work. I mean, but that’s kind of the night we had, you
