AD Mitchell All-22 Film Breakdown | Why the Jets gambled on his upside 🎥

It’s hard not to like how Mougey is taking high upside swings at WR.
In 2024, Mitchell got open a TON. The QBs hurt him. His deep route running (as you’ll see in the video) is his huge skill set.Â
The drops and boneheaded play vs LAR are the reason he’s here.
Let’s hope he develops next to GWÂ
Mitchell is one of those players that is hard to evaluate because Anthony Richardson was so fucking ass his 1st year that his stats don’t really tell the story.
I think he’s easily the 2nd best WR on the team instantly. Obviously he has an embarrassing moment that I hope he learned from, but I think he has way more upside than Malachi Corley ever did to justify giving him the redemption arc.
And he’s still on his rookie contract, so easy to like the decision to go for him.
They didn’t gamble at all. There’s zero downside here.
He was actually one of the guys I really had my eye on because the Colts offense had a bunch of good receivers mixed with a bad QB in Richardson.
His best attribute IMO is his route stems are really good, which is probably my favorite trait in scouting young guys. His hands were very good in college, and he contorts his body extremely well at the catch point.
His issue is something that Garret Wilson has a problem with as well. He freelances routes at times (OBJ did it too) where he throws in a little fake step or misdirection that absolutely cooks the DB. The problem is it throws off timing with the QB on some routes (why Rodgers and Wilson had issues) making anticipation throws. When you have bad QBs that can’t make those anticipation throws anyway, it becomes an issue.
It’ll be interesting to see if Wilson/Mitchell could work together, or the WR coach can work on finding a happy medium.
If one of Mitchell or Mazi Smith turns into a serviceable player that will be a big win for the jets
Love the talent but question the work ethic. He had character concerns coming out of Texas and then got benched for his Malachi Corey moment letting go of the ball before the end zone.
Talent is there but it’s always been there. Will also be tough to evaluate since Fields certainly won’t be able to find him in time. Definitely more excited than Mazi Smith.
I think the 2 first round picks helped
I thought of him as more of a throw-in for the trade rather than than the Jets gambling on him
Nice breakdown here Luke. Do you think Fields has the arm to get Mitchell the ball this year?
He’s WR2. The fact that they got AD and 2 1st round picks is a great deal for Mougey. There were at least a few teams that had a 1st round grade on him in last year’s draft. People quickly forget that he was a key contributor to a National Championship team as a true freshman, dude has some serious talent.
However, he needs significant improvement as a blocker if he’s gonna play for AG beyond this season.
Bro was traded for a two time all pro, he better get more than 500 yards and a hand full of TDs.
Let’s not gas up a player that never passed 400 yards in a season and then turn around and say sauce or Q was having a down season🤣🤣🤣
colts fan here. Supremely talented. Always gets open. But half the time is not on the same page as the qb. Had some effort issues. I’m pretty sure he’s a diabetic. Made business decisions last year but this year he’s shown some grit. Will be sad to not see him suit up in blue.
Will need a strong mentor figure to get him to his full potential, which is easily a wr 1 level player. Colts have tons of weapons and each of our WRs have a specific niche skill set they’re really good at, but AD I thought was the one player that could do it all. It’s all in between his ears at this point.
Wish him well.
I’m excited about the the upside in the WR room.
On that second play, the other receiver he’s grouped with is wiiiiiide open, like nobody even near him. Sorry, I know this doesn’t reflect the player, but that’s all my brain sees now.
