Doc Rivers Postgame Press Conference | 11.07.25

I mean, Jiannis started nine of 21. He missed a dunk, had a layup, blocked, missed some layups. Um, but to go seven to 10 in the fourth. I know that’s what great players do, but just how what did you see through kind of those three quarters with him and then, you know, kind of winning time to to put it on? Yeah, I I thought he got his shots in in that stretch. He got to the rim, man. Uh got to the paint and that’s what we were doing. I thought we settled the first half. I actually told our team as a group it was the worst shots we’ve taken this year in one half, you know, as a group. I thought contested shots, uh, early early contested twos. Uh, I thought we were very impatient offensively. Um, and then in the second half, the ball started changing. We started going downhill. Uh, we start getting our shooters threes and the whole floor opened up and we got back to being us again. And the same thing for Giannis. um you know when those stretches happen where it’s just kind of bucket forbucket and that’s going to happen especially with two I guess teams at a at a pace what what do you hope what are you looking for in that moment a stop a stop like we the zone was phenomenal tonight I thought the zone I think the two things you know three things Jiannis changed the game uh because he started attacking the paint um and just showed how resilient great players don’t have a memory clearly I mean they don’t they can just and they just keep playing because they know they’re great. They know they’ve worked on it. Uh the zone and then I thought Kyle Koosma uh guard giddy. I thought Cuz was absolutely phenomenal tonight in in his role. Uh and those are the things we need. But that one stretch, man, we score, they score. We just could not separate from them. Uh from a coaching standpoint, that’s just frustrating. Frustrating for Billy, too. I mean, you’re both you’re looking like someone’s going to get a stop here, you know, and I think we finally uh put two or three together in the game change. I know we’ve seen it out of Ryan and Cole and Andre in the past, but for Cuz to go 94 feet with Giddy, just is that something that you guys had seen or just you knew in that moment like Kyle? No, he’s done it. He’s done it a couple times this year. Um obviously every night that steady flow of that is hard. He’s not going to be on the point guards most night, but point guards, there’s not a lot of 68 point guards in the league other than Giddy, you know, and there’s a few more, but uh but that just shows his value, you know. Um I think it was Darvin, he called him the Swiss Army knife and and that’s what he’s been for us. He just plays the four, you know, he plays the three, he guards the one, uh he’s our ruler, uh becomes our other playmaker. So, um, he’s really I’m just so proud of him because he’s really like accepted his role. Um, and and we told him, you know, there’s nights you’re going to start, there’s nights you’re going to come off the bench. Um, you just got to stay mentally ready because that’s a lot. And, and he’s been able to do that. Uh, when Yiannis is rolling, I know it’s good to get the pocket pass in there, but how much does that vertical threat mean to him? I know Ryan hit him for one, Cous hits one that he throws up for the three. Just to be able to get a lob threat there. It’s great. Uh it’s the roller, you know, getting a roller. Um you know, it’s a roll is just like a driver. It’s the same. It has the same impact. If Giannis Rose or Bobby Rose, the weak side defense is going to pull in 100% of the time. And even if you don’t get that, you get the backside of that. that we actually got the three for AJ Green um out of the timeout because Giannis Ro they reacted on the weak side. We got AJ Green for a three. Uh those are the things that roads do and Giannis is probably the guy that he probably strikes more fear than everybody in the league roller. I don’t know if there’s another guy that you can think of that would scare people that much. U and that’s that’s something we take advantage of. I know Giannis maybe missed a few more shots at the rim than he does usually, but for the season he’s shooting around like 80% strict. I just I don’t know what have you kind of seen from like that’s just Yeah, he’s just, you know, listen and I’m not going to get back on the soap box, but a lot of those he gets fouled, gets hit on the arm, you know, he’s just such a good guy. Sometimes I wish he wasn’t, you know, but as far as the officials, but he rarely says things, you know. Uh they did acknowledge in the first half that that was probably a foul, you know. It’s funny when they say probably, that means it was a foul, you know. Um but he just keeps doing it uh every night. We should totally be used to 611 guys shooting threes, but Miles Turner, what kind of a threat is he? Oh gosh, he’s he shoots it quick, too. I mean, that one in the corner, Dan, he gets it up quick. Um, you know, we’re still trying to um, you know, get him in his right spots. I thought today was the most aggressive he was. I I think, you know, we looked at his numbers and he was rolling less, almost half less than he did with Indiana. And I think we kind of screwed him up. I tell him, “Hey, you can pop more with this team.” And then, you know, this morning we said, “Just do what you feel. Roll pop. we’ll figure it out and just do you. Be you and we’ll figure it out. And I thought he was very comfortable today. So, for those who are still not convinced about this cup, um what did you raise your hand? Was that a hand raise? Yes, sir. Um it’s easy to say, look at Giannis, how fired up is he, but he’s always like that. So, what do you No, it’s it’s it’s great. I listen, I’m I was skeptical as a broadcaster, you know, two years ago. I had to work the cup. I was like, Jesus. You know, um the reason it’s it’s it’s great is because you get to see early intensity. Um you are putting yourself in playoff type of atmosphere and I think it allows you from a coaching standpoint to really evaluate uh what you need to change, what you need to work on. Uh that was an intense game tonight. I think everyone could feel that. Um I you know I’m looking at the scores tonight. Someone scored 148. Like they’re going for it and it’s just awesome. Um you wouldn’t get that this early in the league without it. You know the end part of is what we got to fix. You know is how how do you go from that to to trying to keep the it back up? That’s the that’s the tough part. there seemed to be a more concerted effort or maybe just like we saw a lot more Giannis and Miles staggering. Was that like a point of emphasis for specific? Yeah, we our bench has not been great so far. Um and we play Giannis in three shifts tonight, which I thought, you know, it’s funny how it works. I I told Dave it’s going to be interesting. I think he’s actually going to play more minutes, but he’ll be fresher. And uh I felt that that happened tonight. Rondo was on uh Thanassis podcast earlier in the week. Talked about uh communication being something key for what he’s talking to the guards about, specifically Ryan Rollins. Yeah. Thought all the guards played really well tonight. I just wonder if you could expand on his role. He’s been great. You know, I I u called him this summer. You know, he was with us last year and I said, “Hey, we we need you like involved around.” Um and he’s been fantastic. He watches a tons of film and I love it because he’s chasing him down like on the road. You know, these guys try to get away. He finds him like, “No, no, no. We’re gonna watch film first.” And so we’ve kind of created like a guard pool, you know, where him and Ryan, uh, Cole and Scoot, uh, in particular, uh, they just sit and watch. Um, he’s been great for me cuz I call him, you know, I’ll say, “Hey, I tried to run three atto’s, they didn’t see this.” this. I explain it to Rondo and then he does it. Uh, that’s been great for me. They hear my voice all the time. It’s great for them to hear someone else.

  1. Doc did a great job going into the depth chart and getting a bigger lineup out there. Did a good job moving pieces in and out to accomplish what needed to be accomplished. Funny last year I spent a lot of time yelling to get Kuz out of the game, and in the first quarter of this game I was yelling get Kuz in there. He's just playing relentless and making the right play, offense, defense, with the ball, off ball, hustle plays. Cole had some good shots in key moments, same with Ryan had 2 3s in key moments, one at the end to stretch the lead when it was still close. Didn't play much this game but I like Coffey, had that dunk, and I like his willingness to drive as well as shoot the three and I don't really notice him being exploited on defense when he's in the game. Bobby showed up, Miles got off and that's the other element of having him on the team. A lot of nights his defense, coordination of the team, screens, and putting other players in a position to defend and score is a great contribution, but he will have games like this where he can go off and put up points on excellent efficiency. This was a great team win, overcame some adversity and stretches where we had to keep scoring because the Bulls had stretches where we were trading buckets, but the defense overall was good tonight. Giannis should have had 50. There was a lot of shots near the rim that should have went down but just didn't.

  2. Got to give it to doc on his rotations tonight was on point! Especially compared to what he did last season he def was on point in tonights game. Give him his flowers! Great game doc!

  3. The off and on Turner/Giannis minutes during the game with them starting and finishing together is pretty smart, great job Coach Doc. And the shot selection, being smart with pacing, making better passes are three other things the team seems to be making great progress in. Focus on such things. You’re doing awesome

  4. Won by 16 without Trent and Green having a good night… waiting for that night when everyone is clicking…the bucks will break the 3pt record of 29, which they currently share with Boston
