It just got VERY interesting for the Eagles ahead of the Packers game…

Some last minute reports out of Eagles practice before flying to Green Bay claim that Vic Banjo might be making a huge change on defense to try and slow down Jordan Love and the Pack. Plus, key starters are officially out on both sides. Yet, it’s Philadelphia that’s getting healthy at just the right time. And why Jordan Milada and the birds offense have a plan for Michael Parsons even at the Tundra at Lambeau Field begins to freeze. Thomas Mott, this is a Thomas M show. At one point this season, Green Bay was considered the NFC favorite as the Eagles were floundering against lesser opponents. Jordan Love, Micah Parsons, and the Pack were flying high. But following an embarrassing loss to the Panthers last week and a massive trade deadline for the birds, Monday night’s matchup on the Frozen Tundra has a ton of storylines. None bigger than the last injury reports on both sides and a few big fang surprises right before kickoff. First though, the Eagles Autism Foundation sent me this, a signed Zack Bond Super Bowl picture, which I want to keep, but I figure you guys, let’s give this one away next week. Now, before we hit the injury report, following Philadelphia’s second to last practice before their flight to Green Bay, it appears this will be our first glimpse at the legendary frozen tundra of Lambeau Field this season. Temperature at kickoff is forecasted for the upper 30s. They’ll drop down to the 20s by the fourth quarter. As of now, no snow is expected, but this will be a dramatic shift from Philadelphia’s first half of the season where twice they played in 90 plus degree heat obviously versus the Chiefs. And then down in Tampa Bay, the lowest temperature they faced all year long was their road loss in New York where field temps Metife Stadium were simply a balmy 52. Still, weather it shouldn’t matter. And most the Philadelphia Eagles on this year’s team were also a part of the playoff run last year. And if you’re like me and went to one of those playoff games, you know it was pretty darn cold. So, not a major factor. It’s going to make for perfect football weather. And it sounds like the guys, at least internally, they’re not too worried about it being chilly at Lambeau Field. Like at the end of the day like like straight up like at the end of the day everybody makes a cold weather game is you know bigger than what it is but at the end of the day we in Philly it’s going to be cold in Philly. It’s not like we you know not to him but it’s not like we playing in Miami. But I feel like if you psych yourself out and you’re like ah it’s going to be cold you going to get you already you already got your mind made up. So we going there I mean it’s just another cold weather game. I played in Chicago so like you know after that I feel like anything be straight. Speaking of worries and the birds injury report from Friday it’s virtually worry-free. Saquon Barkley, Jacquine Bennett, AJ Brown, Willie Lamin, Moro, and Nolan Smith were all full ghosts, meaning Brown, Nolan, and especially BG are all set to officially return and play Monday night versus the Packers. Brandon Graham will obviously get the headlines, and come on, rightfully so. I, for one, cannot wait to see what kind of impact he has out there, his energy, his trash talking, but let’s not overlook the return of Nolan Smith, who we kind of forgot has not been himself basically the entire year, yet told reporters late Friday he’s finally ready to go and is super pumped to get back. Man, hungry. Hungry and just happy to be out there with my guys, man. Just miss the fellas. You miss the camaraderie. You miss the practicing together. You miss all those type of things, man. It’s it’s God’s plan, man. God got a plan for us all. And you know, you can’t get frustrated. You just got to keep your head down and stay working, man. And you know, I don’t get frustrated. You know, I can’t get frustrated. Just got to keep going. For as big as an upgrade as Jaylen Phillips is going to be, maybe on Monday, maybe going forward. We’ll talk about him in a second on the Spur defensive line. Nolan Smith coming back. BG making his official start this season and Phillips together. That is an extremely dangerous defensive line unit. Plus, J Hunt had a great game against the Giants a couple of weeks ago. I think they’re going to get after Jordan Love key factor. We’ll talk about that. Can we get four or five sacks on Monday night? Now, of course, the injury report, it wasn’t perfect as both Dory Jackson and Ken Jurgens looks like they’re going to be out. The Jackson missed yet another practice due to a concussion. Well, Jurgens remained sidelined even after the buy with that knee injury. Philadelphia won’t make this official until likely Sunday evening, but Eagle reporters are expecting Brett Toth to probably make his second straight start. Jurgens out. Obviously a bummer for camp. Hopefully he gets healthy, but to shine in the birds home loss two weeks ago versus the Giants. There have been some arguments that having to in has forced the birds to run more under center plays, which as we saw versus New York was perhaps the spark that lit the fire in the birds offense. Here’s hoping to the entire offensive line and really Jill Herz and company can keep the flames going in the cold versus Green Bay. flying over the Packer injuries and honestly it looks pretty similar to what they’ve had the past couple of weeks as key did not participate like Lucas Vaness and Savian Williams have missed multiple games in a row and are likely still going to be out on Monday with the rest of their limited players like Matthew Golden, Edin Cooper, Christian Watson. They’re all going to play but remain slightly banged up. Again, no surprise. The biggest injury, however, that clearly has tipped this game way into the bird’s favor was the loss of Packers tight end Tucker Craft last week to a torn ACL. That removed clearly the hottest tight end maybe in the entire NFL from the field, who was also Jordan Love’s go-to target when push came to shove earlier in the year. I mean, Craft had seven catches for 143 yards what, just two weeks ago versus the Steelers. That put him well above the rest of Green Grimace pass catchers on the entire year, leaving now a huge gap from first place Romeo Dobs to second place Matthew Golden with less than 270 receiving yards for the season. I think a lot of Eagle fans are overlooking the fact that Tucker Craft not playing this game is a massive, massive loss. Not because they didn’t know Tucker Craft was a good player, because it happened during the Eagles by week that feels like forever ago. So, we’ve kind of forgotten the fact that this was their leading receiver and now he’s not going to play. Either way though, we never revel in the fact that opposing players get injured. Terrible loss for Tucker Craft who’s having a Pro Bowl caliber year, but make no mistake, this helps Philadelphia’s defense tremendously. That that was tough to see. Obviously, we both went to South Dakota State as well. So, uh seeing him get injured, especially with the year he was having is tragic. Uh wish him the best and uh you know, he’ll be back next year ready to ready to keep doing what he’s been doing. Now, of course, injuries aside, and this Monday night matchup was already massive, but it’s taken on a whole new meeting, especially in Philadelphia, as the birds have added three new significant additions at the trade deadline. All three of whom should play at least varying roles on Sunday. As of course, Jaylen Phillips, he’s going to get the most amount of reps likely on Monday night. As both he and you see here, Nolan Smith have been spending extra time working out to get ready to return. On paper, right now, Jayen Phillips is the best edge rusher in maybe the entire Eagles unit with a 19.3 pass rush win rate and an 18.1 pressureer percentage that is currently the best of any other Eagle on the defensive line. However, as with every trade deadline move, there is a scenario where he works a little slowly to get to starter level snaps. As he told the media late this week, yes, there’s plenty of familiarity in a fake Fanjo system, but remember that has been 2 years since he actually played under Vic. Uh yeah, I mean, I think there’s an adjustment obviously. You know, it’s been two years removed and you know, I’m was part of a different defensive scheme uh this last year, these last two years really. Um so, it’s definitely still a learning curve. Uh, you know, I can’t say I’ll just jump in and immediately know everything, but I’m definitely working diligently to to learn the playbook and to get a plan with the guys. Jordan Love is currently being pressured on 28% of his drop backs this year, which is actually the highest of any quarterback under Matt Laflur during his tenure. And when he is pressured, he’s the sixth QB in the league statistically. Whereas, when he has a clean pocket, he has the best EPA of any passer. So in reality, whether Phillips plays a ton, a little bit, maybe mixes in here or there, Philadelphia must get pressure on Jordan Love when they do, he tends to make mistakes, and mistakes means probably an Eagles victory. Now, of course, Phillips aside, many of us are wondering what kind of role Jrander is going to have in the Birds defense, not just on Monday night, but going forward. As I’ve said multiple times, he’s probably not going to start anytime soon. And yet on Friday’s practice, he was actually pulled aside by he was a back coach Christian Parker along with Quinn Mitchell and Cooper Deene to get some extra work doing DB drills which is significant at least according to Andy Deabona between tweet on a Friday quote these two one-on-one sessions with Christian Parker have usually hinted towards who will start at outside cornerback so far for the Eagles. Now just because Jay Alexander got extra work with KP and Cooper Deene and Queen Mitchell does that mean he’s going to start Monday night be the actual CB2 versus Green Bay? No. But it’s definitely interesting because Andy Deabona is correct. Previously, it was Key Ringo doing this. Before that, Adori Jackson doing this. And so, do we have a new starting quarterback? I don’t know. But it is 100% true. His best years, at least as a Green Bay Packer, came when Christian Parker was his DB coach. They’re united again. And that might have a significant implication in getting on the football field sooner than a lot of us first thought. Oh, yeah. I mean, me and me and CP, we’ve met every day. I’ve been here like five times a day. I mean, I think he’s my best friend at this point. I don’t know. Uh, it’s been good to, you know, be back with him and, you know, get the get the coach in, get the technique, and get the extra work. Um, you know, you know, like we used to do. Plus, as mentioned, there’s still the concussion going on with Dory Jackson earlier on the show. Still, we have to wait and see what happens Monday night. But at least when he talked to the media on Thursday, it sounds like his sole focus right now is being a great leader and a great teammate for all the young guys in this brand new DB room. This is going to bring uh leadership. I’m gonna bring some energy and bring some swag, you know, confidence and uh hopefully, you know, hopefully we all can feed off one another and feed off that and uh you know, take this thing to the next level. I’m more into proving myself, you know, that um that I can be where I know I can be, you know, where I am. So, you haven’t you have no doubts that you’re still that player? Yeah, I don’t have no doubts. Now, Eagles aside, and of course, when playing Green Bay, obviously you must slow down Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs. But the birds made it clear during their final practice of the week that Micah Parsons and the Packer defensive line are truly their real threat. As both Micah and fellow edge rusher Ran Garry have been absolutely terrorizing opposing offenses and all of Green Bay’s wins so far this year, despite obviously some familiarity between the birds offensive players and Parsons during his time with the Dallas Cowboys, there’s no loss of respect for the Packers newest toy. Well, that was a really good defense last year already. And so adding Micah to the mix makes them that much more um of a problem. You know, a really good defense. Um really good defense, great great players up front, very disruptive up front and then in the back end they are very sticky in coverage. And so um the linebackers fly around from from sideline to sideline as we know. It’s it’s a great challenge for us. And so we got to come in ready to work, ready to ready to play. just one of those guys that you have to game plan for cuz you know we say he’s a game wrecker. So you know for us it’s all about executing our plan up front um in the run game and in the passing game cuz that’s you know pass game is where he’s done a lot of damage um and where he can be a big threat. So for us just about executing up front on especially in that pass protection game and trying to make sure that he doesn’t disrupt it. I mean obviously we played them and so we so we familiar with some of the things that they do but you know it’s different faces now you know and you have to prepare differently as well so we got a hands full full they have a really good Dline man adding Micah you know Rashan Gary so that makes our job a lot harder too as well so I mean we got to speed up our process and do what we need to do what’s most important to note though is that when teams have actually held up well against Parson company this defense for the Green Bay Packers can 100% be gotten through both the air and on the ground for example Last week, Rico Dattle went for 130 on the ground at two touchdowns. And obviously, prior to Bryce Young’s interception in that game, Packers defense had not created a turnover through the year since their week three loss to the Browns. On paper, statistically, this is the top five total defensive unit in Green Bay. It’s very good, right? They have plenty of great players, Micah Parsons, Gary Xavier McKenna on the back end, but when they face number one receivers, at least recently like Jamar Chase and George Pickkins, they’ve been absolutely shredded through the air. And so, obviously, you got to run the football well. You got to pass protect against Michael Parsons well, but I think it’s going to be a massive day and a really impressive day for AJ Brown and Devonte Smith as obviously AJ Brown, as we said, he’s healthy. I think he’s got some revenge mixed in. All the media trade drama as well. He’s coming off a very impressive game versus the Vikings a couple of weeks ago. Plus, we forget Devonte Smith. He’s been redhot. Had a great game versus the Vikings and a really good game versus the Giants. But it all sounds like Jaylen Herz especially is eager to get back to work and prove this offense is heading in the right direction while also staying efficient and not turn the ball over. Um, ultimately I think efficiency is more important than anything else. And so I think as a team if we can do that, you know, do that as a team, as a offense, we’ll put ourselves in a really good, you know, position. That’s a efficiency in everything we do. um um execution um the fundamentals of things we do you know um every everybody everybody has that from a from a role standpoint so being efficient in what we do is important all in all it is worth noting that historically Philadelphia when given extra time off for instance as a buy during the Syrian era are 6 in one with 11 plus days rest and actually 11-1 if you include the season openers which also was when Philadelphia beat the Green Bay Packers in Brazil the previous season opener in 2024 obviously Sirriani is also undefeated against the NFC North and his and Herz’s record from week 10 to the regular season since 2021 is a combined 24-8. It actually turns into 21-3 if you take out the Collapsefield 2023 season. All in all, I’m very confident in Philadelphia, but I’m also excited to see how they match up against one of the premier teams in the NFC. Now, of course, they’ve already played very well against the Kansas City Chiefs and they beat the LA Rams, the Tampa Bay Bucks. have the quality wins, but if they keep stacking up wins against the premier teams in the NFC, not only is it going to hopefully swing the power rankings nationally in Philadelphia’s favor, but way more importantly, the number one overall seat if they win on Sunday or on Monday night, excuse me, the tiebreaker with them, the Bucks, the Rams, the Cowboys, that won’t matter. But still, it is massive for Philadelphia, and I think they’re going to go ahead and win on Sunday. Now, of course, play more stuff happening the next couple of days and weeks. I am planning on streaming the game on Monday night. I’ll be alone as most of you know Josh Davis, my uh broadcast partner, if you will, is going to be at the game at Lambeau Field.
