Dirk & Blake Griffin on Why Giannis and the Bucks Look “Scary” | NBA on Prime

Bulls and the Bucks very very cute onto the family. Josh Giddy also warming up in the first quarter. Josh Giddy top of the key finds a cutting Melis back. Under two to play in the first. Giannis coming through. Oh my goodness. Bucks led by one at the half in the third. Getting downhill. Spins off his defender. Slams it home. They ain’t want none of that. Take elbow. Nobody. Nobody want my toss. Zeal step back three-pointer is good. Most improved player in the fourth. Giannis left all alone on the perimeter and he drills it. Mission. East group C here got the Heat in the Bucks sitting at top the standings there. And again remember for the NBA Cup the point differential is important. So teams are scoring when they can even when they have the game in their hands. So let’s chat what we are seeing in the Eastern Conference. We just talked about that impressive performance from Giannis, but the Bucks right now are rolling, Steve. Yeah, Bucks are playing well. Uh they’ve kind of gone a little more shooting in the starting lineup. So, their defense has suffered a little, but they’re putting shooting around Giannis. He’s able to get in the gaps. 33 minutes a game, 33 points, 23 points in the paint. Like, think about that. 23 points in the paint in 33 minutes. I mean, what are we doing? Like, no one can stop dunking. We’re dunking or we’re shooting threes and they’re making 40% of the threes right now. So really nice offensive balance for the Bucks right now. Ryan Rollins, Ryan Rollins, who’s a guy who’s been around a little bit, had a little bit of tough time in Washington, spent some time in the GLeague. He’s found a situation that works for him. Trust me, when you’re a guy that’s bounced around a lot of times, you have an opportunity to make it and you’re in a situation where a great player like Giannis, depends on you, says he needs you. You got a great coach like Doc Rivers and then you got Rajan Rondo in your ear over there. I love what he’s doing right there. So there’s a development of a young point guard. We were talking about a point guard situation. So, as Giannis continues to get downhill and control most of the flow, you have another guy who can take the pressure off him, handle the ball a little bit, let him get a little rest. Yeah, I think for me going into the season, the the back court was sort of the question for the for the Bucks. You know, you knew Giannis was going to be Giannis. Miles Turner coming in was going to be great. Uh Cole Anony’s been good in stretches. They found a way to to really make this work. And, you know, putting shooters around Giannis is never a bad idea. Uh, but the way he’s just just put his imprint on the game. I mean, some of those highlights are just th that that shouldn’t happen. Yeah. Spin move, dunk on three people. Just the the sheer will to get to the rim is is is next level from Giannis. And uh the Milwaukee Bucks, man, fun to watch. Yeah, Milwaukey’s looking good. And for Giannis, eight of his nine assists tonight were on threes. He’s assisted on 39 threes this season, tied for second most in the NBA. What sticks out when you hear that, Dirk? Yeah, he’s playing an all-around game. Uh he’s still obviously attacking uh with the best of them. Uh to me, he’s showing he’s he’s the best player in the East. Uh he’s making plays for himself in transition like always. He’s worked a little bit of on his midi. I heard he put in a lot of work this summer. Uh he he played well in the Euros. Uh you saw that three. He’s looking a little smoother. Uh you guys remember that gamewinner? Was it last week in in Indie or from the from the from the elbow when he spun and made the game winner? So he he feels more comfortable I think shooting the ball now which is scary uh for the opponents. Uh and so he’s he’s playing a full all-around game. He’s obviously still great on defense. So I also like the addition of Turner, you know, gives him a big that can spread the floor and shoot. He had he didn’t start the season off well. He had 20 today. I think he’s obviously going to get more comfortable in in the new system with the new players. So, um, I like I like what they’re doing in the East and they’re going to have a chance. You mentioned his passing. To me, this year, his passing has taken another step. He’s been a great passer. He’s been able to get downhill and find guys in the corner, but this year I’m seeing him do like some no looks, some behind the backs. He’s he’s I think he’s really Yeah, a little south, if you will. He’s doing he’s he’s making these passes where you can see that he’s one step ahead. And he’s always been a great pastor. He’s always got his teammates involved, but it seems like it’s coming very, very easily. But it’s that symbiotic relationship between shooting and your primary score. They’re creating space for him. He’s creating shots for them. You know, if you don’t bring two or three guys, he’s on the rim. But if you do, guys are lining up. They’re spinning the ball. They probably bring two or three guys anyway. Probably still on the rim. We didn’t even talk about Green, who’s obviously one of the best shooters uh to to have him around and and spread the floor. Another great shooter. Trent Triner. Yeah. So, uh, yeah, they got a lot of shooting around and and if they don’t come, he’s he’s going to punish whoever’s on him. This is the formula they had when they won the championship. Nice point guard, a big that can spread the floor at Miles Turner and you put shooting around him. This is the formula that they had. Not saying this would be the results, but this is the formula that Giannis has been most comfortable in. Now, we know Giannis looks unreal. Bucks playing very well. Offense looks great, but Steve, you want to see more from their defense, which they’ll need to get back to that championship. Yeah, I mean, I think it’s going to be tough. Like I’m just not sure they have the profiles to defend at a super high level. I think that’s why Doc’s probably gone to more of an offensive lineup to try to keep their differential uh in a positive place, but you know, they’re going to do whatever they can. They’re going to have to scrap. Turner and Yiannis are going to have to control the paint. Those small guys are going to have to funnel people into the lane, try to control the ball, but it’s going to be a tall task for them to be great defensively, but I think with their offense, they can try to mitigate some of their profile deficiencies defensively. 1. Bucks going to be cooked in the long run. He has no running mate, has to go 100% every game just for them to have a chance to win, and their defense will be a problem

  2. Extremely refreshing seeing positive talk about the Bucks and not the usual Giannis trade talks or only talking about the Bucks when they're struggling.

I can't help but wonder how it would have been covered if SGA or Luka made that turn around fade away game winning buzzer beater shot in Indy…

Sports media, please change the narrative around the Bucks

  3. Bulls announcers are so fucking garbage

Stacy kings dumbass and his partner were complaining about the refs the whole game

Didn’t even say nothing about the game or the players

It’s like listening to 2 random guys watch the game

  4. I think they are one high level defender away from being able to be a pretty good defending team. I think they are less compromised than years past. Green, trent jr, prince, Coffey are all guys who aren't scrubs defensively. It's just none of them are guys you want on a number one option. And rollins just gets pushed around a little too easy or he'd be an excellent defender. I'd be surprised if Portis or Kuz aren't part of a deal to get a true one on one perimeter defender. That would really amplify there versatility. And I I wish they would play Jericho more, he could give them a different look defensively. All I know is I can't stand all the zone defense Doc has them playing

  5. I like the old-men comedy approach of the Inside the NBA team. But the Nightcap crew is great as well. Two MVPs and two very good former NBA players in Griffin and UD who actually give factual comments instead of stupid hot takes. 👍

  6. Gianni’s, Jokic, and Luka should be headlining the MVP talks. Better numbers than SGA. Idk why the narratives always change. From the best player to the best player on the best team. It’s obvious what the NBA is doing but we gonna see when they keep winning
