Another Offensive Duel, This Time Stars Come Out On Top | DLLS STARS POSTGAME
[Music] [Applause] Yeah. You know, it’s like it’s like plugging in an old toy that is run on electricity. Be as soon as you wind up Sam with that song. Off he goes. Just hit his button. And not my microphone, but I’m out. Not one of these two jokers had their microphone within four feet of their mouths when we said go. Starts postgame show starts right now. [Music] [Music] Hey everybody, welcome, welcome, welcome to the DLLS Stars Postgame show. Hello everybody. Not to steal the Oh, you want to do the NPR one? We should have done it cold open that way. Kind of silly now. Jazz on top of jazz. Talk about your muffins. sweaty balls. That looks he popped his head right up. Hey Luds, we’re on the air by the way, just in case you weren’t noticing. Oh, hey Craig Ledwick. Samo and Newkerk. Ryan Vers is our producer. Before we get into tonight’s postgame show of the Stars beating the Pred, let’s talk about the faceoff collection because well, it is the newest hockey themed shirts in our merchandise line here at DLS. You can go to the website alldls.com, check it out. I think Luds has a fantastic idea because we’ve been trying to promote those as much as we can and if our boss doesn’t have those shirts for us by December 7th, which as Sam pointed out in the pregame show is a month from now, then the very generous offer for LDS of the 25 people that bought tickets to our takeover event, you’re going to give them you were going to pay for their drinks at Hooters as part of our whole experience of the takeover to a Stars game. Maybe it’s Ben that has to pick up. We can only do so much from these streets fair. They he could be outside knocking on doors and you know, I don’t want to throw him under the bus because he did the other night after our PNC deal. He went down and got us some food from Hooters. There you go. Yeah. Brian and I were very happy and appreciate. Oh man, look at walking it back like he’s here, but he’s not. It’s It’s There’s some up there. It’s right underneath the Lunchables. All I got was a bunch of candy rappers from Owen. No, I picked them up. Thank you. But yeah, Skittles up there are dangerous. All right, let’s get into this one. Stars with a win. This was a another one of those defense optional kind of games where the pucks went in. Amazingly, as I go through the end of this, guys, like weren’t that many shots on goal. 22 to 21 Dallas. Dallas had by far the better scoring chances. They win five to four, so they did enough. The quality, the high danger were 12 to4 Dallas. Nashville scored two goals on ones were great great screens, but the shot origin had nowhere near high danger on them. It was just taking away the eyes of Jake. And if you’re going to beat Jake, that’s a good way to do it. Yeah, Jake’s numbers didn’t improve. It was a It was a loosey goosey game. I It didn’t seem like there was a lot of contact throughout the game. I I felt what went on in front of both goalenders at both ends of the rank was kind of easy for the forwards to get there. Not a little resistance from from defenseman, from the opposing team to keep them away from the goalender. And I think a couple guys were screened. I know Jake was a couple times. So, uh, a little loose, but you know, for Dallas found a way to get an extra point without going to an extra frame. Sam, we were very excited about lack of overtime just because it’s an evening where we could go home at a reasonable hour. a schedule for humans, Ryan, or for people that are hustling, side hustles. Side hustle. Yeah. So, what did you take away from this offensive back and forth? I’ll say this. Stars are resilient. Even that game that was Yeah. Even that game that was so bad after that that horrendous second period in Anaheim or against Anaheim, you think, “Okay, this one’s going to be over. They’re going to walk out.” They still made it interesting multiple times. And then tonight they obviously made it enough interesting enough to get back within back even and found a way to go ahead. It it’s not at some point and I know LS has to be thinking the same thing. At some point they have to start playing cleaner games but right now cleaner games like it’s playoff game right but when when do we need to see that? Glen Golison said he wants to see game 20 through you know 40ish is when the teams start to separate and this is game. So, are we okay to just say, you know, four or five more and then figure out close enough? Let’s go. I know, right? Close enough. Close. Yeah. One of the things I noticed that happened in the first period and it maintained throughout the game, although not quite at an insane rate, was that the Reds absolutely worked the Stars in the faceoff time. There aren’t many teams in the NHL that do that. Now, yes, they’re missing Jamie Ben, who’s good on his strong side, and Matt Duchain is very proficient in faceoffs, which we had some updates in the pregame show about that. But when you look at things generally, the Stars are a top five, top 10 faceoff team perennially, and they usually are win more than they lose. Well, after the first period today, it was 15-3 in favor of Nashville and it didn’t look good early. Now, they got a little closer, but it was 3225 faceoffs. In other words, 56% as you see on the screen, 56.1 to 43.9 in favor of the Predators. And Ryan O’Reilly took most of them. 17. You mean I can’t do anything right? Ryan O’Reilly. I maybe one good year in my career. Luds. He He won 17. He lost nine. That’s a What is that? 17 for 28. Sam, as long as you do that pull up’s career face off runners. I guarantee it’s right. What’ you say it was tonight? He was 65% tonight. Yeah, I’d say he’s in the high 50s. Yeah, because that I mean anybody crazy, but but the point is is that 55.7. Yeah, he’s a very very good F. In fact, I remember when the Stars were getting ready to play I want to say St. Louis cuz O’Reilly hasn’t been in Nashville for that long. So, I think when the Stars played Nashville last in the playoffs, he was either in Buffalo or already in St. Louis, not yet to the pres. And Tyler said, “I have something that I’m not going to share, but I think I have something that will cause him trouble in the faceoff circle, but he goes, but I’m not going to say or do it. It’s a I’m trying to catch him off.” He’s that good that that’s what it resorts to. Tired is a good centerman in that regard. And even he at that time, and it was probably 2019, so we’re talking six years ago, that’s how much he had to try to game plan for faceoffs against Ryan O’Reilly. Yeah. you I I think you you plan you you have to have a plan. What are you going to do when you lose face? You know, I mean, do you send in your forward your forwards? You just have them take off a lot of times, especially if there’s a left-handed centerman like let’s say Jamie Ben for instance, Jamie could outmuscle them at times, but take a left-handed face off, goenders to the right, go straight ahead with it. Go right to the net, send both put both your wingers in front of the net and go go to the front of the net. Not that that hasn’t been done against O’Reilly, but I’m just saying at some point that or you just say, “I’m just tying them in. Tying them up. Come in and help me out.” And that is usually a good thing when you are just getting picked clean over and over. Say, “I’m just going to try not to lose this.” Yeah. So, you lose this game the other night, 7 to five in a wideopen end to end with a high-flying young Anaheim Ducks team that has a lot of skill. Reminds us an awful lot of the young Dallas Stars back in 1516. And then Luds, you you come and you win this one and five lead changes. Had the lead a couple early, gave it up, went behind, clawed back into it, and won the third period when you’re down a goal. That especially on the road. Look, I know Nashville is not only not a very good team right now, but they are now winless in four and they have one win in their last eight. So, they have had a hard time closing out games. They have a hard time getting into games, but still to rally like that and and the we’re going to go through our breakdown. Listen to the season goal totals for the goal scorers for today for Dallas. Maverick Bourke scored his second. Ropean scored his third. Justin Rovian scored his second. Adam Ernie scored his second. Sam Steel scored his second. They got contributions from a lot of guys who haven’t been scoring a lot of goals yet. Yeah, that’s all good stuff, but you can’t continue to play the I mean, you’re doing it against, like you said, a poor team. It hasn’t been a team ever since, unfortunately, Barry Trot, who I think is a great coach taken over the reigns as far as a general manager. Some things haven’t worked out there. But for Dallas, you have to start being that team that puts the fear of God when you come in. I I I think right now teams are coming in against Dallas and going, “Hey, we know they’re a good team, but they’re going to give us chances to to stay close tonight.” Yeah. So, I I think you want to get it get it back to that that team that becomes harder to play against and and and not just in their own zone, but in all three zones. You know, you give them time to get in the offensive zone. They can spend time there. They can create chances. They can bury their chances. And then when we go the other way, we can’t get to their net as easy as they’re getting to the Do you guys, Again, we’re going to go through the breakdown. We’ll do all the goals. We’ll we’ll we’ll show a couple of L’s breakdowns of some of it. But is this a a team defense thing giving up this much? Is this a goalending thing? Where where are you stand? I can sit here and pick out and I can again you know how critical I can be on defenseman and things like that or Harvard forwards. Yeah. Well, as a group I want him to be tougher and harder to play against in front of Jake Hotinger or Casey who’s ever there. I think when they come back there’s lanes that are open. That’s not defenseman. That’s forwards coming back into their own zone. So yeah, I mean you can sit here because I think we we expect, you know, a lot out of this group. So I I just think that there’s little fixable things and again they’re going through the process, but got to get to it sooner. Either of you guys look this game, the refereeing was what it was, but the pres got called for the first four minor penalties of the game and then 3 seconds into the second period penalty on for Philip Forsber, Wyatt Johnson got called for tripping, which I think he did. Yeah. But then three of the next four to finish the game went against the Stars and it ended up being 54 power play. So it was pretty even. I know referees are very sensitive to the I don’t want to try to influence the game and be lopsided which I inherently hate because that’s not refering that’s trying to make they say oh we don’t want to be involved. you’re actually doing that because one team is taking penalties. It’s not the team’s other team’s fault that gets power plays that they suddenly should have some ticky taxs to make up for that. Yeah. I think you’d get some push back from the referees if they were listening. They say, “Hey, we’re just calling what’s out there, you know.” So, yeah, they know they even it up. Yeah, they know. But it and this is nothing to do with the game. I don’t think the game was swayed because of that. Stars got a power play goal and the pres and let’s talk about that real quick. Dallas has now given up a power play goal at least one in 10 of 15 games. It’s almost the same personnel. Ela Nazertine still the defensive specialist and penalty kill coach, but this penalty kill has not been anywhere near the top of the league that they were almost all of last year until that what seven game losing streak at the end of the season where their penalty kill numbers dropped. Oh. Oh. Oh, that sound means he has something to say that he might get just I just want to say like when as good as Mero is when he’s out there, he’s not hard to play against, especially on the PK. Is this a mistake to have him on the penalty kill? I don’t know. I I don’t know if it’s a mistake. I I just I just think that you have to be harder to play against in front of your goalender. And I think you have to seal people out. We’re allowing the opponent to get too easily to Jake and they’re they’re planted right on top of the crease and I you know with with the way that things are called now and you don’t call the interference calls are called right and and especially with if you’re on the PK they’ll put they’ll put the other team five on three. So the way that they skate and get out the defenseman on pucks and you know get in lanes and defense have to get the puck up early. They got to get up sooner than they want to. So, all you really have to do as a defender or who’s ever going to be in front of the net is just seal him out for a couple seconds. Let your goalender get out and establish his position. Then they can’t bump into him. But right now, if you if you actually watch how we play in front of our net, it’s like, “Okay, go ahead. You get in front of Jake and get right on the crease, and I’m going to try to stand in front of you, but I’m not going to do anything to you.” Crazy. I I don’t I don’t understand the concept of that. And there’s there’s one in particular tonight with with Miro and he could have just held the the forward on the outside almost basically down to the goal line. When the puck comes across, Jake is there to make the save, but he allows him to come to the front of the net and you know it Jake can’t see the puck again. Do you think that it would be advantageous to go back to Essa Lindell and Ilia Labushkin as your top penalty killing defense duo? I I think so. I I mean it ju that’s what I think I would do and because I think Leouchkin can be a little bit more harder to play against, you know, and he’s a bigger bodyg and and I and again I I know Harley doesn’t get a lot of opportunity out there. Maybe maybe he could pick up because Thomas Harley’s getting the majority of the power play minutes now. He’s getting the majority it seems like of PK minutes along with Essa. I think maybe you could find him a rest. I think if you if somebody had a talk with Harley and just said, “Listen, we need you to be hard to play.” Mirror, I I believe that Harley will be harder to play against in front of Jake on the PK than Mirwood. It’s just a difference in the way that they play. So, this is a postgame show after the Stars won a game on the road and and again, Bishel too and we should hear about it, but this is a to me when Lud says offensively and defensively this isn’t a sustainable way to play. And then as soon as you said that, I thought this penalty kill is not a sustainable. You have to have they have to start adding up nights where they go 100% penalty kill and they have not done that. Right. So if you’re It’s like a welcome mat in front of Jake right now. I’m not trying to get you in trouble with Gully. But I’m going to ask you anyway. It’s not like he’s knocking on my door and he wants me to come over there. just allow me for if you were if you were involved with his coaching staff and you what would you say to Glenn to try to convince him that maybe Miro shouldn’t be the first PK I I would work me personally I would start working with guys like Pro and Bishop because of their size and their willingness to seal and play a little bit more physical make it a little bit more difficult for the opponent’s forwards to want to get don’t make it hard I again I know you can’t do some of the things you used to be able to but big bodies they can seal people Right now it’s like I said it’s like okay you go ahead there. There’s no resistance for anybody to get to front of the net. Sam is there any concern that if you do pro and Bishell who are very good physical seal the net block shots that they don’t have some of the quickness to get to different spots if a power play moves it around. That’s the only thing I think of with with Miro, like in this in the tight areas like LS is talking about, clearly there there’s better options, but Miro’s stick, the way he’s able to read plays, the way he’s able to get uh a stick on pucks, and the fact that you just said it, he can recover like that. And sometimes uh you know, you make one bad read, all of a sudden your diamond is shifting, that’s when you need that speed. But to me, I feel like there’s a lot more of what Led’s talking about than there is of that one play here and there. I think that Bishell could probably do the same type of thing. And you and you’re right when you say sink stick length and you call people long. Bitchell’s long. Yep. Petro’s long. Leouchkin’s long. You know, they’ve got a long reach on them. Their their stick can do the same thing that Miro can. They their quickness in their hands aren’t as good, but you’re on the PK, right? You knock a puck down, you don’t do anything but fire it off the glass and put it down. That’s all you do. And I’m a big fan of any way to to limit Miro’s minutes here and there. You know, find the ways that he is most effective. put him out there, find the ways you can draw back a little bit so that he’s not and when when your forwards are aggressive on on their on their defenseman by getting pucks up early, you’ve got big bodies that seal people out. That’s what I mean. It’s going to be more difficult get to the front of the net. Get your big bodies at the front and say you’re not coming here. And and I think that because if you watch Bisell and Petro play, that’s how they play five on five. They play that way. They try to seal guys out and al like I said, all you have to do is for a second or two. So, well, and that Well, did I did we talk long enough to Oh, we we definitely did. Let’s talk about PNC Bank. Long-term growth takes patience and commitment, something that banking and hockey hair have in common. PNC Bank recognizes the value of long-term growth, too. It is time to see how good long-term growth looks on you. As we were talking about in the pregame show, these two, cuz I was off that. Great to see all the Stars fans who showed up at PNC Bank’s Main Street branch this past week at PNC Plaza right outside the AAC. We love seeing how Dallas committed to long-term growth in all its luscious hockey hair glory. For those who missed it, our mainstream branch popup event was the ultimate celebration of PNC’s reliable, responsible approach to long-term financial planning told through the lens of another amazing long-term investment. Epic Hockey Hair PNC Bank, an official partner of the Dallas Stars. Nice done, guys. That was very that was very radio at the end there. Yeah, an official partner. I have done a few radio days. You were on the radio for a year or two. Okay, so let’s do the breakdown of this one. The Stars jumped out to an early lead. Did not score. Uh they had a couple good looks from Miko Ranton on the game’s first power play, but it was actually even strength that got them the lead. Luds as Maverick Bourke scored his second of the year. Take us through this one. Maverick had a good game. Go ahead. Let’s talk. You called him out pregame. I did call him out pregame. I said he needs to be better. He was. Uh, a little breakdown here in communication I believe from Pervix and Brady Shay, the defenseman for the Nashville Predators. I believe here when Perix looks over at Shay, I think he feels he’s going to take middle lane drive. He’s not. He’s going to pick up on Miro. So, we’ve got people driving right to the front of the net and that just happens to be Mr. Bourke. Miro does all the rest of the work here, though. It’s a beautiful pass and and Bourke I like what he does. And here here’s the man-on-man apparently over here by Pervix. But but I love what Bourke does. He sees the lane. He takes it. He drives to the net. He gets his stick down. Murill finds a small little gap underneath Sha’s stick and he just throws it right to that far post or keeps his feet moving and it barely misses the goalender’s pad. I mean, it was like a centimeter from Anan’s pad. It’s a rare one, right, where where it’s not even like a tip in onto the goal. It’s It’s behind him almost in the back. Yeah. And he just kind of pushes it into the net. You can see, you know, there’s that little little spot underneath the stick and a lot of times you got to get that glove hand, turn it over, but you can see right here it barely misses on it in his pad here. So, it’s a nice little spot for tap one in. I’ll tell you one thing, took what I think it was almost nine minutes before they created a scoring chance in this one. I didn’t think they had a very good start. I thought Dallas did. Not only did they get the early power play, which came just 307 into the game, that was the Brady Shay tripping penalty, but then they just scored a goal. They pile up some chances and they gave Nashville nothing. Nashville had three scoring chances the entire period. Zero high danger. And yet with just under three minutes to go, they scored to tie it just because of a faceoff play. Mhm. Well, and off the face off, there’s some big bodies that get to the front of the net. Right, Ryan? [Laughter] My favorite thing is when Led goes, Oh, it’s the second one. Let’s take a look here, Ryan. We don’t have that one. Yeah, it’s the second one. So, all right, LS, tell walk us through this. Um they win the draw and it looks like Evangelista who scores the goal is on a set play to go from the inside hash mark all the way to the boards. But because the defenseman steps up, he ends up making like an improvised last second pop out. And then when he gets the puck, he’s wide open with a very screen Jakeer in front. Yeah. And then and I think right off the face off, this is the one where Wyatt kind of turns back play. He’s actually facing Jake. I think if he’s turned around, he probably could block the shot, but but again, it’s traffic. Jake doesn’t see anything. He’s trying to stand up and look over the top. Stars did a great job to turn it around. It would have been better with the diagram. We’ll get to that in We didn’t have that one. We didn’t have that one. We don’t have this one either because we were trying to limit these. Well, which one do we have? Well, well, let’s talk about this one and then we’ll get to the next one, which we do have. We’ll talk about this one then we’re gonna get to Yeah. What the puck power play. Yeah. Where’s my what the puck? Rope hands. 13 seconds into the second period as he just blows right through the Nashville defense. Johnston and Hasten and the assist and the Stars answer that that was at the start of the second period. That was one of those plays that when Wyatt got the puck, he already knew where Rupe was and he made a perfect pass. I don’t know what their defenseman doing. there was a I mean there was a huge gap and that’s where and you don’t give Rupe that kind of a gap and so he just blew the zone and he was in. So usually you don’t see Johnson and Hints on the same lines because they tend to center their own lines but when you have a power play those two can link up and it makes sense. Well Wyatt’s Wyatt has been setting people up scoring goals tonight. He had a couple beautiful plays off the skate and up to the tape and and uh but he had spotted hints before he even got that puck from two primary assists for Johnston today. So he’s up to 10 assists on the season. We’ll talk about the second segment one later. That was the first one. Buds, we do have this breakdown though because after after scored, Tyler Sean had a great chance during a fouron four sequence right in front, hit the crossbar, could have easily made it a 3-1 Stars lead. And again, the pres weren’t generating anything and then Nick Hey got him on the board for the second time, tied it at two and kind of flipped the script in in a very short window. Well, here here’s kind of what I’m talking about. This is the part about where I’m talking about. Oh, there the puck. So, right here, look, look to the left of Jake. Okay. Oh, yeah. Right there. See where my arrow comes out? I see the arrow. Yeah, that’s nice. That guy in the yellow shirt. He’s on the other team. So, Mro right here can just seal him out. Just step right down there. Puck’s going to move around. It’s hard. You’re You’re probably going, “Well, wait. That’s because we’re doing skill shots.” But seal him. Okay. Now, now do it. Not now. Emphasis on now. Now, what happens now? Here’s Hey got the puck, but Miro didn’t even touch him when he came out there. Now look at where his feet are. Yeah, his feet are actually in the paint. Y and you can see where Jake’s looking. He’s Jake’s now got to look over the top. And then look at I mean now what happens is Mural steps out in front of him. Now there’s two bodies Jake’s got to look through and Hey doesn’t really do much except make sure he gets puck to the net and boom. That’s the biggest thing I’ve learned from you working with you is the early play by the defense. It’s not about out musling him once you’re in the spot. It’s about when the puck comes out and he starts to come out feeling him out. Who is the best at doing that on this? Well, I think Bishel was last year. Bishial Bishell actually, you know, again, what he did last year is he turned his back back here, but he made sure that that guy wasn’t getting there. You can do it so that you can see where the puck is and especially with a big body at 65 or 66, whatever he 67, I think. So, he’s getting taller. Well, there you go. So if Bishop would be out there, he just plants himself like a big old oak tree and you don’t you don’t get to the front of the net. Big oak. We’re way too old to say that trend, Sam. I don’t even know what it is. That’s why I asked. I know it’s a thing though. It’s a thing. It’s Oh yeah, Ryan’s got it going on. So Luds, we have another breakdown though. I don’t know. 27 seconds after the Hey goal, Nashville takes their first lead of the night as Philip Forsber makes it a 32 Presley. This one’s going to be fun. This one’s gonna be fun. Buckle up. What the fuck? Okay, Wyatt Johnson is a really good player, but to some this time I have no idea what he was thinking here. So, what happens is that’s Wyatt’s stick. That’s half of Wyatt’s stick. So, he drops the stick. You can see where the stick is broke there and half down in the corner. That’s a broken stick image. I’m talking about the little It’s sitting in the in the stick, but it’s broken half. So, what does Wyatt do? Now, let me start. If you look up on the clock up there, it says second period 14 something 57 or whatever it is. This is a second period. It means you’re a long way away from your net just in general. Okay, here’s what Wyatt decides to do. Click. There we go. There goes Wyatt. Hey 53. Does that say? What does that say? It says where where are you going? Where are you going? That’s not what I meant to write. I meant to write where are you going? doesn’t have all his fingers working properly here. It’s 188 ft there and back. And that’s regardless if you don’t fall down. Well, what does Wyatt do? He falls down. Look at that still shot. The puck’s in the net right as this. Yeah. And so why I don’t understand why a whore would go why a whore. I mean, it’s it’s not even 200 feet. Why would you go that far? Just just wait for the next. Oh, we lost lunch. That’s the best. We have the I don’t think we’re getting free shirts anymore. Whoops. Oh, man. Here we go. You know, it’s funny because LS was outraged by this whole thing. Yet, we’re sitting here cry laughing over it because of course they won. I don’t I don’t understand. like, okay, so a couple years ago, they actually players and teams started if you’re in your own zone and you’re defending and you break a stick at times short-handed, they will send you to the bench. Now, what happens is your stick gets passed down to the close end of the bench and somebody hands it to you, but I don’t understand why you go down there at the end of the in the second period and I mean, you got to be a whore to do that. I don’t I don’t I don’t know why you’d do that. Just waiting for it. Oh, man. So Forsberg was wide open. He did some spring cleaning. Knock the stick out of the way and then he catches the pass. Burries it. You can’t leave Philip Forsber Sam in front of the net like that. Probably not. Good shooter. So 3-2. Listen to this. If this game was different in the sense that Nashville found a way to win, Eustus on him is probably my player of the game because he stopped rope hints on another instance point blank where he got through the defense. It wasn’t a breakaway, but he just, you know, darted between the two blueliners and he’s one-on-one. This time Anin makes the save. Then they get the power play and he denies Hint. Then he stops Robertson and Johnson all in the low slot close to the crease. He’s the reason why this was 3-2 going into the third period. I’m sitting there going, “Well, we might have to pat the visiting team goalie or the opposing team’s goalie on the back for this one.” But Sam dummy Justin Ryscoian entered the chat. Yeah, good player. Uh, you know what, that that play I don’t I don’t see very many tic-tac-toe passes that close to the the net, right? And that play Maverick Bork as LS mentioned needed to find another G. I’m assuming not. When he asked me, I assume not. I don’t have my own segment here. We do. Actually, we do have this play. Do we? But we have to do it on the other side of the break, don’t we, Ryan? Oh, look at that. We’ll do that next commercial. I wanted to give Sam a chance. If it was just you and me, Sam here, we’d have blew right through the Blake Break. Well, whether it’s a Blake Como or it’s a Blake Coleman or it’s a break, it’s time for us to do that here on the DLS Stars Postgame Show. Sam, it’s you. Find it. It’s game time. Game time. So, it’s cool to see, you know, maybe you’re not you don’t want to sit next to the student section at SMU because you’re going to get screamed at. That’s a good way to do it. Sam, check out your offensive line touchdown. I want to talk about You want to talk about a great company that offers a great product that LUDs is not stupidly expensive. We’re talking about Shady Race. stupid. You know how many times you lose your sunglasses or the worst, they’re on the top of your head and they fall off and they land in your concrete driveway and your lenses are shot just right there. That’s scary when you good for your costume. You can do the uh ad reads off of memory. You know that you’ve been been We thank them for being a sponsor for long enough that we can memorize. All right, Luds. Last breakdown. Justin Rousovian started the third period. Stars needed Sam do this. No, you want to Sam you you I don’t know what you wrote. You drew it out. I didn’t write anything. I just drew circles. You can handle it. Oh, perfect. Let’s get You want to do All right, Sam. LS would like you to try. Can we even do this with the with the screen? Oh, wow. Oh, he can. There it is. Self-explanatory. All right. So, this is the play I was talking about. Maverick Bourke wins the puck behind the net and makes it super nice little little hook, right, Luds? Almost. You like him has sound effects now, too. Almost a little almost backwards to uh Oscar Beck here on the right on the goal line. Beck barely even takes the puck. Makes a quick pass to Ritzovian. And I love Ritzovian. You guys, I’m not going to go down that whole lane. I mean, read my article if you want to hear more about him, but he does the right thing every time almost. I mean, he goes right to the net almost. And then look what he does when he when he his first shot saves and look where he’s standing. He doesn’t overkate it. He doesn’t go to the side. He’s standing directly in front of the net. That’s three. You mentioned yellow jerseys being the other team. That is three Nashville Predators defenseman and a goalie that he is beating. Goalie’s not covering to win that puck. Scores on the rebound. It’s his second. You know what? Well done, Sam. What would you like to add on? What the puck? No, I was going to say, you know, why third and fourth line guys generally score those goals in those areas because of something that you said is they don’t expect to score on their first shot. So, they hang around. They hang around and they’re there for the first, second, and third. They assume that they won’t score. Yeah. They’re picking up their own garbage for sure. You get goals. Well, we’re going to talk about the next two. I mean, I I know Sam Steel’s playing in a top six role right now, but he still sort of has the heart of a of a mucker and a grinder, but 3-3 Ritzovian and then a penalty. And Buds, this is an interesting one because it’s third period. It’s Ilia Leouchkin called for boarding. Now, he does drive the guy into the boards, but I honestly felt like this was a bit of a soft call. I thought Labouchkin or excuse me, Bishel being that big just knocks was it Tyson Jo maybe? I’m trying to remember who he or Evangel kind of you’re kind of thinking h they knew what the penalties were. Yes, it’s a little bit from behind. We can kind of it’s not you can’t boo us for it because technically it is. But I think his his legal check cuz you’re allowed to push a guy with the puck. He falls and then goes into the boards. It wasn’t a drive into the boards, but it didn’t look great. When we watched the replay, we’re kind of like, okay. Well, we need to sto the storybook replay, I think. But, but I think that um sometimes players get penalized just for being bigger than other people. Oh, yeah. You know, and I think that and again some and that might be part of when Leon is, you know, and I say be physical and I don’t want to take I’m getting called. I I would I would just go over the edge a little bit and then pull it back if that’s what you need to. So, well, and that leads to Stephen Samos doing I I said on Twitter he dusted off an old favorite because we haven’t seen him do that in a while, but that was filthy when he wants. Yeah, you can’t even see it go in the net when he kept looking to find it. You cannot see it go in the net. So, that but that’s been the problem I think. And I wrote it down. I don’t remember who it was, but Nick Blankenberg was the pass. Is that who made the pass? The defense. And that pass, it wasn’t a rocket, but it was right in his wheelhouse where he wants it. And I think that’s when what’s been missing for Samur over there, especially on the power play opportunities that he gets. Marsha So threw one over there earlier and it was in his feet. And so that’s what I think’s been missed. And you keep saying that scared the crap out of all of us because KG’s loud enough that probably went on the mics. But Les, you keep saying, “Boy, wouldn’t Stephen Samos look good on the Stars power play?” There’s no way you’re going to figure out how to fit his $8 million AAV for this year and two more years after that. Yeah. But what a great shot, right? So, it’s 4-3 Nashville after the Stam Coast goal. Here comes the Muckers and Grinders. It starts with Adam Ernie scoring from the slot, getting to the hard areas. See, soft coverage for me, number one, uh, for Nashville in front of their own net, uh, like we saw at both ends of the rink of time tonight. But Adam Ernie drive. How about Colin Blackwell? Great pass. A nice backhand pass and puts it right in the right spot. But again, it’s Adam Ernie. He’s alive. Waving alive. Our old producer that we thought we killed off, but no, we didn’t. Look at that. just walked out of a sun again. Um, but no, I Adam Ernie I, you know, you know, he’s going to the front of the net, you know, and that whole line does, but yeah, it was a nice pass play. Good example what you’re talking about, too. He he does, it’s not super, you know, as you mentioned, it’s not the best coverage in the world, but he does lift a stick, get a little push off, and gets that space. Oh, I’m not used to this. And gets that space, which is cool. I just He’s got your socks in there from the Jango. What What is that? What’s the name of the rest? The Jango Unchained Unchained. We’ll get to that right after the next Brandon segment, but less than a minute later, Sam Steel scores. Tic-tac-toe. This is from Wyatt, right? Yeah. Ranton in first, then Wyatt. But but yeah, Ranton always seems to find the lane across the ice, right? He puts it in Wyatt’s skate all in one motion. Why picks it up, keeps it on his back and and passes it tape to tape the seal. I mean, it’s And remember the other night, Wyatt had that little redirection pass to Ranton and across the crease. I mean, he’s pulling out all sorts of tricks from his magic bag. Wyatt’s uh good player. Wyatt’s playing like he’s playing for a contract or hockey living up to a contract. I mean, if he plays like this, Luds, for the next month or so, he’s going to be underpaid. What about Hockey Canada? We talked about this. Yeah. There’s no way. We looked at that list of projected guys to make the Canadian Olympic roster, but the way Wyatt’s playing, he’s got to be in that conversation. Yeah, have to. And he’s doing in the big moments. That’s the key. Sam Steel scores from Johnston and Ranson and they make it five to four. Honestly, I didn’t think that the PRs were really good at creating high danger chances at the end of the game when they’re down a goal. Except for Morgan Baron who had a wide open shot from the low left circle and Jake was able to move over and make that save. That was really good. Other than that, he saw Marshaso three times. O’Reilly put one over the net on a rebound. They I think for the most part guys kept him to the perimeter. Yeah, I I would say at that point that’s one thing that Gully’s been harping on. Now they’re going to have to get in the other stuff done, but we’re seeing more numbers and more bodies in that that high high quality shot opportunity area in front of their goalender. Except sometimes there’s other jerseys in there, too. Well, Stars win another game. They have points in eight of their last nine and they beat the PRs for the second time. Amazingly, guess what? They’ve already gone to Nashville twice this year. That’s it for their trips to Bridgestone. They won’t do it again. It’s only November the 8th. Each one was a one day trip. Not a good Well, they have another game tomorrow against the Seattle Kraken. We’ll talk about all that. Up next, Sam will finally explain why he’s wearing socks and a shirt that have pizza all over it. We’ll get to that and your super chats here on the DLLS Stars postgame show. You want to do that now or you want me to tell about you? You tell. Well, you may not have heard, but we have a new shirt collection and uh here they are. It’s the Dallas hockey one, the green one, and the black one. Everybody seems to like the green one. It is called the faceoff collection. And we are a couple shirts shy, but I don’t know if uh Uncle Ben’s going to pay for the beers that LDS apparently said that uh he would take care of if we find some people wearing these at Hooters on December 7th. 7th. That’s what I said on December 7th. But we did solve something. Ryan, do we have the uh visor of Jamie Ben? So we we have the Jaime Ben one and we’re we were a little confused where this whole thing came out because he doesn’t wear a visor. Yeah. So, we’re a little confused on why the visor is, but this morning I found out where the visor picture or the the the what do you call the mockup shirt or whatever came from. So, I was at this event this morning and there it is. There is the visor 1943 Sears Robuck chin pads, but that visor is the same visor on Jamie’s shirt. So, whoever brought that in must have been one our team saw. That might have been the uh that’s a wild inspiration. Talk about digging deep. brain goes goes all over the place. The reason why is I never even was part of the conversation. Yeah, that’s right. We haven’t talked about it. Oh, so we’re going to do it now. And this is a tricky one, guys, because sometimes you say, “Hey, this guy looks like clearly the best player on the ice or he really drove play.” But Dallas really balanced out their offense tonight. I would say they didn’t really balance out much of their defense. Everybody helped contribute to four goals against. But how would you start thinking about player of the game when you had five different goal scorers for five goals? You had a bunch of different players that had assist. I mean, a lot of players had a point or two tonight. I have my vote. Well, don’t. Is he number 22? Yes. Yep. Me, too. I think Maverick. Sell me on it, fellas. Why Maverickport? Not only did he get his first multi-point game of the year and his best game of the year, but his goal opened opened things up, started things off, crashing the net, setting the tone the right way, and then his assist on that goal by Ritz Kovian was purely will. He wins the puck behind the net and makes I mean, that is the pass. That’s not a pass of a middle six guy. That’s an elite player. And I think that that is what he needs. And I really I know I’ve said this before about certain players and sometimes it doesn’t pan out, but if he is going to find the next level, he needs a game like this. It’s like uh it’s like his his games in in New York and on Long Island last. Don’t you think he needs another one though? I think he needs to have a couple in a row so then it’s not a oh well one and then a regression for a week and then back. I think it I think right now it’s more mental than anything for Maverick Pork. So this is a a great start. You should. Yeah, you always call. Honorable mention to to Wyatt Johnston for two primary assists and two really nice setups. The hints power play goal to start the second and then the gamewinner for Sam Seal. I think Luds takes one of his primary assists off for going to get a stick. Oh, then a minus for that. So that’s why Maverick. So Maverick Bork. What do you got? I I honestly I was struggling because I was looking at that. You guys have convinced me for Maverick Bour cuz I didn’t really have one that I was thinking about cuz after two periods I thought about you and then Dallas piled up into the third period. So, we’ll give it to Maverick Bourke. He is the PNC Bank player of the game. It’s one thing to support long-term growth. It’s another to go out and celebrate it. Thanks to all the amazing Dallas Stars fans who embrace long-term growth in all its feathered glory, feathered, layered, and lethal. Our Main Street branch popup event was the ultimate celebration of PNC’s reliable, responsible approach to long-term financial planning, told through the lens of another amazing long-term investment. Epic hockey hair at the Main Street branch. Fans had the chance to pick up their own Dallas Stars hockey hair, a limited edition stars hat with epic hockey hair of their own coming out of the back. It was a reminder that the best things, whether it’s a legendary flow or a strong financial plan, come to those who are patient and committed to the long run. PNC Bank, an official partner of Dallas Star. Okay, now before we get to your super chat, it’s time to answer the question. Is why does Sam have red pizza sock and a hoodie with the word DeJouro on it and a pizza slice on the other shoulder? First of all, Nike hoodie. Uh, yeah. So, let’s let’s let’s break this this saga down, which is which is still not over. This saga is still not over here. Uh, so, as we know, I Tuesday, October 28th, Thomas Harley signs an 8-year extension with the Dallas Stars. Stars beat the Capitals one- nothing. So, we’re down in the media room. We had heard that that rumor was happening, but we weren’t sure when it was going to become official. We’re interviewing, I want to say it was Roe Hanser, S Lindell, and mid interview, we get the alerts and people’s phones start buzzing, Harley Edstein, the extension. So, we go speak to Glen Goldson in the room and they say Thomas Harley’s going to become available and he’s going to come in. So, if you guys don’t know, Harley is dry dad humor. Very funny. Very funny. But sometimes he also just has wants nothing to do with it and gives you answers. So much so that they cut him and Wyatt Johnson out of the Amazon documentary because they maybe they’re just not as interesting. So, we don’t really know what to expect. That’s tough. But the the answer, usually there’s at least one line he gives that makes it rounds on social media or gets some fans to to laugh. And this is the one that did it that night. I assume I’ll pay for some dinners on the road at some point. Um but for now, it’s just kind of any of the night. Go home, you know, eat a douo pizza and go to sleep. Nothing crazy. So the reason that I thought it was so funny is that he didn’t just say go home, eat, go to sleep. go home, eat a pizza, go to sleep. He called out specifically a frozen pizza brand. Even funnier is that he does this for every home game where he lives. So he has every option to go eat at a restaurant, cook food, do whatever he wants, and he chooses Dejouro Pizza. And while it is usually late at night, Dallas has a very vibrant restaurant scene. There are enough places that are available to serve something, food or beverages after hours. So, I posted that. A few other media people posted that. It got tons of funny comments. People asking for him to be sponsored and all kinds of stuff. So, I go to sleep that night. The next morning, I wake up and I see that DeJouro had commented, the official DeJouro on Twitter had commented on the Stars account and said something pretty funny. Um, I thought that was great. So, then I looked at my mentions and saw that they had commented on my own. Uh, and I thought that was hilarious because deep down I really do love Dejouro. I’ve had plenty of them. My brother and I even ate one. Trying to get a deal. No, but I’m saying my brother and I ate one one time. One time we were so uh so antsy it was still frozen in the middle and we just we just ate our way through it. Sometimes Sometimes you just got to do it. You got to be patient. Sometimes you got to do it. It’s like late at night after the bar. I guarantee Sam is the guy in the box before Sam is the guy that jumps on the ice when the Zamboni is still hasn’t left and they he doesn’t let the ice shut. you pull up that breakdown of mine before. So I So I thought that was hilarious. I immediately text my brother. I text my friends. I’m like, “Hey, this is pretty funny.” Then I look and I have a little uh a notification icon on my DMs on Twitter. So I go in there. I have a DM from Dejouro. They asked me, first of all, they thanked me for my reporting on what they call a huge story in hockey. Uh and asked me if I could connect them, potentially connect them with Thomas Harley because they wanted to send him something. and they wanted to give him some swag and thank him for for shouting out their uh their brand. So I eventually connect them with the stars PR team. The DeJouro people also asked me what his favorite kind was. So I had to be investigative a little bit, text some players, uh try to figure it out. Eventually we found out like a min. This is a full story here. Eventually we found out rant right now. This is I appreciate it. I appreciate it. Eventually we found out that he’s a three meat rising crust desouro type of guy. So I send that information. Think I think that’s the end of it. I go on my way. Oh, there’s more. There’s more. Oh, there’s more. Then after the Ducks game the other night, I tweeted out I could really go for a desouro pizza right now. And that was serious. And the very next day, Luds, here’s what I get at my door. So, how how do they know where you live? Uh, I gave him my address. Oh, well, no, they looked me up on a dating app. No, so this arrives. What do you think, Katie? Katie, he’s cheating on you with DeJouro. Katie brings this in and I go, she’s like, “What is this?” I don’t know. It says Nestle on it. And I start laughing. Open it up. Socks, a sweatshirt. Uh, you can see insulated bag, a really nice note, five free pizzas. Then I get this picture, which is says the Thomas Harley. So, as you’d expect, Thomas Harley got a far better care package, as he should, than I did. He got a custom hat. That’s a one-of-a-kind hat right there. 47 brand because they heard that he loves baseball caps. So, they made him a hat. He got some merch. I believe he has the same hoodie. So, we’ll see if he’ll match me unlike L. I think he fills out the hoodie a little better than our Well, this is a double XXL. So, I’m hoping I don’t look a little more. And so, Thomas Harley gets the care package. The key though that they told me he got a bunch of merchandise, bunch of other stuff, and enough pizza or at least coupons for pizza to get him through the rest of the season. The key part I took away at the end was and plus a promise to restock him if he needed. I don’t know about you guys, that sounds like free pizza for life, right? As long as you don’t abuse it and start ordering. Well, I mean, every home game I need to restock every half an hour or something. I don’t know anything further on this, but I do know there are there are maybe some cogs working right now for further things that I cannot report on. do and maybe Sam will let you take point on this, but we need to clip this. Send it to Jouro and say we would welcome an opportunity to partner with a great frozen pizza company. Well, I’m on uh I’m on Door Dash right now. I’m going to Pizza Hut. I’m going I’m going to go Pizza Hut. You’re killing me right now. I wouldn’t get Pizza Hut. Pizza Hut. Okay. I’d get Desjouro if I were you. He doesn’t get it. It’s like Yeah, I know. I know, Ryan. I’m Yeah, it’s unbelievable. Okay, let’s do your super chats cuz we are running out of time. on board. Who? Dr. We’re working on it. Oh, well, if they’re not, I got a second one for you. You do? Okay. All right. So, Ryan’s pulling up chats. We’ll start with I Love Misty 1985 with a Maverick Bork and a Craig Lewig. Great gritty win. And this is the worst part about this now, Sam. Yes, we were talking about this the other day. I haven’t even finished reading the super chat. Now that I see gritty, I’m thinking about the mascot from the Flyers. It’s got to be that, right? Goofy. Well, no, cuz a gritty win is using a lot of grit. No, no, I’m saying that that game, that stadium series, Stars, Flyers. Gritty Stars Flyers and they wear Cowboys and Eagles colors on the ice. Um, it would be wild. I don’t think it’s going to be the Flyers. No, but it’d be funny to see Gritty and Victory. and victory would be. So, we’ve got a great gritty win and all certainly one of the most satisfying of the season, but more importantly, I hope Luds had fun meeting with fans at the Dallas Card Show, including my season ticket buddy in section 317, best section. Luds, did you have fun? There were there were a lot of them there. There were a lot of DL. Really? Oh, yeah. That was high pitch. They said they loved the show and came up and I was sitting there with Grant Marshall and Sergey Zub and they were in line. So yeah, there was a lot of them there. They were representing very very nicely. So thank you for coming out and supporting LDS at the uh it was at the Allen Event Center, right? Or what do they call it now? At the Allen Marriott, is that up by the the rink there? The Was it the Is it the Texas? No, it was Dallas Marott Allen. Oh, okay. Yeah. Hotel slash lot of slash. A lot of slash in there. All right, let’s go to the next one. something bing bang burned oils with a Darien Hatcher and you’re after the cuff. I still have to say not say Brendan Smith. I like LS’s short. I think you mean shirt. I’ll buy it for $10 cash. Pretty short. Ls. I feel like that shirt is worth more than $10. That’s a nice shirt. Where’d you get that? Uh I think it came from China. Oh, took about a month and a half to get like showed up at your house or It was on It was on the Twitten page there and I just My favorite on the Twitten page. the old Twitter page Twitter page from DeJouro directly they gave you they sent it to you Travis with a HK skinnan and 99 cup here we’re getting hockey plays from faceoff everyone else does against us like the only plan looking plays what was that seems our overload onev1 me and NHL Hut 26. I I promise I’m not having a stroke. Travis, I appreciate this, but there’s some there’s some words, some spelling, and maybe some grammatical things. I might clean that one up a little bit. Well, he’s talking in hockey speak for us. No, you the way you butchered it, I have no idea. I have no clue. All right, so thanks for the super chat, though. We have a pretty interesting game coming up tomorrow. Stars against the Seattle Kraken. Sam’s rubbing his hands together, not because it’s cold in here, but because Mason Marchment and the Kraken will be in town. And guess what? This team, which we expect tonight, too, to be pretty bad. In fact, I was ready to beat on the drum and say, “Hey, let’s think about maybe getting Mason Marshman at the deadline. Seattle won’t be in it.” Well, they’re 63 and four, 16 points. Currently third place in the Pacific Division. They’re right in the middle of the hunt. Can’t score too well. No. Tell me about the Kraken from your I believe my research talk about it more tomorrow, but I think they are dead last NHL in total goals and they are and they are somehow still in top three of the Pacific Division. Let’s uh we’ll do a whole pregame show with them tomorrow. But any uh any early thoughts on why the Kraken are successful in spite spite of scoring offense? I’m driving with my knees. Don’t super chat while driving. I Travis, that can’t be right. That’s not safe. Uh no, I I just thought we had a day off. I didn’t You didn’t even realize that we had I asked Casey I asked Casey if he had a preference on what game he plays when it’s a back toback like this. and he was, you know, talking about a little bit, but he said the the only thing I’ll make sure is if I do play the second night of it back toback this week, I’ll make sure I punch Mason Marshman right in the back of the head. So, oh, looking forward to some goalie battles with 20 with 27. You’re right. They are playing right now. They are in St. Louis tonight. It’s uh about six and a half minutes into the first period. Dylan Holloway has already in the box. The Blues say what’s the overunder and how many penalties times he’s in the box. Well, not coincidentals, just intal against Dallas tomorrow. Yeah, I guess he’s got he’s got to have at least four minutes of penalties. I would say I I’ll over under two. I would say two and a half would be would your line would be 2.5 minor penalties would be my line. You can’t you can’t go two. That’s you get 2.5. That’s why 2.5. So would you go over or under two and a half? Yeah, I’m asking you. That was my question. Over. I think under. I think he’ll take two. All right. I think my biggest key he’s obviously going to get a great uh ovation from the crowd. They loved him here. good video. But what I hope is that it’s a Mason Marchman type video. As I look into the camera here, it’s not him scoring goals. It’s him on the ice with his helmet all sideways, screaming at officials, hacking and whacking people. It should be couple dumb. It should be. Yeah, maybe it’s him hacking the ref in the back of the leg like he did in the playoffs. I hope it’s fitting for him. It could very well be that. The uh Stars have a big trip coming up and we talked, you guys talked about this a little bit in the pregame show. There’s no expectation for Jamie Bend or Matt Duchain to be involved. And remember Thursday night I said we haven’t seen Matt Duchain at all with the team skates. That changed and so you can share for those that didn’t watch the pregame show because I said my hunch is we’ve seen Jamie Ben now. I think Ben’s going to play before Duchine and that can still happen but maybe that’s not the case anymore. Yeah. Yeah. Goldson said uh yes Friday yesterday. Yeah. yesterday at practice that I like I mentioned in pregame show, Ben and Duchain were pretty much full participants. No contact, but they took line rush. Gosh, they took line rushes and everything like that. Just go. You’re fine. You don’t have your lens is just in your head. Is in my head. He’s always in my head. He lives there. Uh but they they took line rushes. They were part of it. Benolton said that it’s a great start. It’s a great sign. Um he they’re both listed as dayto-day. He said Ben might be a little bit longer, but the key thing that that we took away was he he mentioned he hopes they’re both on the trip to Canada next week. So, not only is that important because it means they could potentially play, but it means that Jamie Ben is going to be cleared should be cleared to fly, which is just as important with the injury he’s had. Sometimes players will be ready to play and not travel because they’re not. So, if he’s cleared to fly, that’s a really good time. Should be good. Yep. So we we don’t know when that timeline is like that’s what is that a four game trip they’re on in Canada something like that. I’m going to look at it right now a bunch of late starts. It was just the early games in bloods. Aren’t we seeing uh the French side of Yeah, they’re in Ottawa Montreal. Is that it? I thought so. Aren’t they coming? I’m thinking of the Western Canada one later. I didn’t know there was a game tomorrow. I made a comment on this because Gritty and the Flyers are here next Saturday. Beautiful. And then the Islanders are in town. We get to see Matthew Schaefer a week from Tuesday on the 18th. Then it’s the four. You’re thinking about the Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Seattle. We call that the Streamyard road trip. That is a late night. Well, I think for three home uh boom from your Yeah, where we all go. That’s where we all go. Watch along, lads. We might get dragged in here for a while. I was hoping Kum would do would do the Oilers Stars game. Yeah. Not yet. I don’t think they’re doing it though. Not even us. All of a sudden, we’re at Thanksgiving. I better start. Better start ordering your turkeys. All right, that’ll wrap things up. Any final thoughts tonight? I have a DeJouro in the freezer waiting for me at home. Bloods is going to try to stamp on that possible partnership by promoting a different brand of pizza for Craig Bloodw Nestler and our producer Ryan Fers. I’m Owen Newkerk. Thanks for joining us. We’ll see you tomorrow 5:15 pregame show. Luds and I will be here. Sam will be at the AAC. Sean will maybe be pregame show. They’ll definitely be here for the postgame show. Stars and Kraken tomorrow night 6:00 game here on DLLS. Can’t wait. Your balls, butt cracks and grundles. [Music] [Applause] [Music]

Totally agree about Miro on the kill. And there others like maybe not Johnston as much or Heintz. Im not sold on either of those two fwds on the kill
Does Erne or Bastian have that in their skill set? Obviously they aren't face off guys. Why aren't they using Faksa more on it? I can imagine the amount of $%%? He caught for that. They actually showed Gully on the bench talking to Graham and Gully was shacking his head no. I couldn't help but wonder what that conversation was. It was immediately after Johnston doing that
I saw the Wyatt when Sevy was saying he wasn't sure how it happened. I was like Wyatt wth are you doing to go get a stick!??? What are you doing??
You didn't hear Stamkos name the entire game until that play. I had just asked myself is he hurt, uhh nope.
