Jacoby Brissett proves he’s ‘the guy’ for Cardinals after Week 9 | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
But Cardinals fans out there would like us to talk about what they did well and we’re going to right now mainly because it leads to the possibility of drama in the not too distant future because Jacob Brassett’s the guy like I like they like they tiptoed around it last night. It was so funny like is it time to have that conversation Troy? I don’t know Joe. It is. And it’s not a conversation. It’s not a conversation. Jacobe Brousett’s the guy. You don’t bring Kyler Murray back unless and until the chariot turns into a pumpkin for Jacobe Brassette. You go into Dallas on a Monday night and you win. And Dallas is kind of like their arch rival. Like the Cardinals don’t really have a rival. Like the Rams and the 49ers and the Seahawks look at them and they say, “But the Cardinals have always had this thing with the Cowboys. There’s always been this.” And the Cardinals beat the Cowboys in the playoffs one year, I believe, like in 88ish, I think. No, 98. 98. Uh, but this was a big deal to go in there and beat the Cowboys. And Jacob Brassette’s getting it done. And there’s something weird going on with the Cardinals and Kyler Murray. And and so I Hey, Jacobe Brassette, I mean, he’s been around what is this year 11, year 12 for him. I it was an impressive performance and he runs that offense better than Kyler Murray does. It It’s simple and I think you look at the numbers and that tells one story, but you turn on the film, I mean, it looks like a competent offense. It looks like an offense that has a shot. Like it’s you look at his record as one and two. They took Green Bay down at a wire. Like they had a shot to win that Green Bay game. like this team is playing at a way higher level and we talked about it numerous times on this show. Has nothing to do with the front office, the contract. This has a chance to do with your locker room. Like you cannot take guys out who are giving you the best chance to win and it’s obvious. And I I text Jacobe while they were playing because he scores on the touchdown and he like reminds you of like your piano like the piano teacher. Never too high, never too low, just kind of boring. like he scores a touchdown, no spike, no anything. Just gets up and softly taps each lineman on the helmet, taps the skilled players and jogs in the sideline. Go, “Hey, spike the ball. Like, do something. You look boring.” He was like, “I’m just trying to make sure we finish the game.” And I think that’s what the Cardinals were lacking a little bit. They have a guy in there that is a guy who’s played with Tom Brady. He’s played, you know, for the Colts when Philip Rivers came in and he lost his spot. He’s been through a lot. He went and played for New England last year and he was only there so they could wait for wait and buy time to put Drake May in. He went out there, got beat up the first four games and Drake May comes in. He’s a savior. He goes to Arizona, gets an opportunity and just relishes in that moment. And I think for that locker room, they’re like, man, this is a guy who’s a team first guy. All he he’s an older guy. All he cares about is how he can put us in position to win a game. And that’s what he’s been doing. He’s putting his team in position. last night looked like a prime example of the offense coming in and saying, “Hey, we want to do things a little different. We want to put Marvin Harrison Jr. as a primary guy. We want to do the” And Jacob’s like, “Cool. Let’s just go execute it.” And they executed and they played well. Like I I think it would be impossible for them to say, “Hey, now Kyler Murray, you’re in.” They might whatever they need to do. Hey, he’s still hurt. Hey, we want to make sure he’s 100%. I’m not saying they got to come out and just say, “Hey, he’s healthy. Jacob’s a guy.” But they need to figure out something with him of what is the story we’re going with because we’re not taking Jacobe off the field. And it will be a story. You’re right on the money. Your instincts are accurate. I think that there are going to be layers and levels to this unrelated to the simple question of making one guy a starter and the other guy the backup. But before we get there, we’re going to hear from Jacob Basset. And before I go there, I just have to point out something you said that really caught my interest. You’ll text someone when you know there’s no way in hell they’re going to see it and it’s going to get buried. Yeah. Behind like a hundred other texts. Wow. See, I won’t do that. I’ll only text someone if I think there’s there’s a reasonable chance they’re going to see it right now because I’m concerned if you don’t see it right now, they’re never going to see it. Cuz I get screenshots sometimes. Like a guy sent me a screenshot yesterday of a text message that he got. And I always look up at the corner and I see how many text messages they have that they haven’t read. And the bigger the number is, the more nervous I get because I pride myself on keeping mine at zero. He had 178. So my response was, “Dude, check your text messages.” So your text to Jacobe, your your text to Jacobe is somewhere in the 178 of unread text messages that he got during the game last night. But I I went to sleep and I know for him he has all night to respond. So like check all 200 text messages you got before. But at 2011 you better check my message. And he did. He responded cuz if not now we got a problem. I see. All right. We’re not really friends anymore. And now I’m going to go. If he didn’t respond, I would have bashed him this morning. I would have bashed him. All right. Well, that’s a good way to test whether the friendship is one way or two-way. Point I made earlier. So, one of these days, like when you’re doing a game for Westwood one or you’re like the the grand marshall of a parade somewhere and I know you’re unavailable, you’re ringing the bell at Gillette Stadium, whatever it may be. I’ll text you when I know you’re not available and we’ll see how long it takes for you to to to get back to me. Uh, okay. Here’s Jacobe Brassette as promised in about seven minutes later. Here’s Jacobe Brassette on why the Cardinals offense was better last night and if he believes he should be the starter. Uh I don’t think it’s me. Um I really don’t. Um I think it’s just you know everybody gets caught up in the beginning of the season and everything’s not either things not going well or not going well and uh the good teams in this league finding ways to you know continue to get better and uh that’s what we’re doing at at this point in the season is just finding ways to continue to get better. Uh you know you tweak things you you go back to the drawing board. we’re going to go back after this game and and say like we should have did this better, that better, that better. And um and I think that’s what we’re doing a good job. And like I said, I really don’t think it’s me. I just think it’s, you know, the over the time and through the season, I think we’ll continue to get better. Do you feel like you’ve done enough to be the full-time starter of this team? Uh that’s that’s I don’t I don’t get into that stuff, man. I’m just trying to go out here, win game, be a teammate, um you know, and do the best that I can when I get my opportunity. Uh that’s all I can ask for. the perfect answer. Really the only tactful answer that you can give. And he’s in season 10. It seems like he’s been around longer. He’s one of those guys and you get those guys in the NFL that it’s like it seems like he’s been around a hell of a lot longer than he’s been around. And it’s just because he’s been playing for a lot of different teams. He plays and he doesn’t. Then he plays and he doesn’t. And now he’s playing and and and he’s playing well. Hi, it’s Mike Florio. It seems like Arizona is a place where an old QB can resurrect their career.
Just shows you how bad Kyler Murray is when he's outplayed by Jacoby Brissett.
I like the QB of Cardinals , he’s taugh and throw some very good ball,
The Russell Wilson portion of his career is about to start.
If Jacoby plays consistent the rest of the year, sign him to a 3 year deal. I don’t trust our FO/owner to draft a good young QB.
The Cardinals problem is the same as Miami. Incompetent talent at GM. They have an often injured QB that isn't performing well enough, but because they know they can't pick a good rookie QB they give the injured QB a new bloated contract and hope QB will stay healthy and the team wins deep into the playoffs. Ignoring the past.
Better QB and better leader and a lot cheaper!!
Murray still gonna start I'm not even a cardinal fan
Kyler doesn't study film. All of that talent, and doesn't study.
Kyler has been "not the guy" for a long time
Devin is full of crap. "Has nothing to do with personnel, or contracts. It's all about the locker room and execution". Really? It DOES have to do with who is IN the locker room. If you didn't horrendously overpay Kyler through 2027 you would have better talent in the locker room. Never understood besides incompetence why they overpaid Kyler so much. No one was going to pay him that ridiculous amount.
I think Shedeur Sanders future is Kyler Murray II, if Shedeur gets to even be a starter.
Totally agree with big uncle
Jacoby isnt better than Kyler BUT…the TEAM looks BETTER with him at QB,if you deny that?your looking at something else ON THE FIELD😊😊😊
Cant stand in the pocket and take a hit. Nothing against the guy. To start as long as he did in the nfl is impressive. Its an incredible feat. If im murray im switching to baseball.
Will be great until he loses a couple games 🙄
Proud Pats fan seeing Jacoby succeeding, Mac is doing well in SF too
He proved it in the pre-season but Kyler getting paid so had to start him
The NFC West is like 3 older brothers, then there’s that youngest boy conceived on accident & is like 10yrs younger than the rest. That’s the Cardinals.
Brissett gets no respect! No respect at all I tell ya!
Jacoby Brissett is one of the greatest backup QBs of his generation, but there is a reason that he's a backup, and that is because he has a low ceiling..
They never should’ve paid Murray that contract. He’s a 15mil dollar a year contract at the most.
Anyone saying Kyler should be benched for Brisset is a dumb azz… Dude, I respect you grandpa but you are making ish up.,… the team runs better with Kyler… you are blind…
not only did kyler drop 40 on the Cowboys defense when they were actually good, the reason the Cardinals have lost is DEFENSE… NOT KYLER… They literally lost a 30 point lead to the Titans… the moment Jacoby faces a good defense he is cooked.
This is kind of deja vu in the Desert. When the Cards drafted Leinert out of USC, the team decided that he would be the franchise QB, even though they had a veteran QB name Warner. During many practice sessions, everybody on the team noticed that Warner was a better QB to run the offense. But the team had to stick with Leinert. In the end, Leinert was replaced, and Warner, in spite of his advanced age, became the QB1 and gave the team a berth in the SB. Gannon has to keep naming Brissett the QB1 to have the respect of his players. Kyler, in spite of his huge contract, will be a backup, an insurance policy until Brissett has a horrible game.
A class act like Jacoby Brissett will never say he is the difference. But deep down he knows he is the difference. And every fan that has eyeballs knows that he is the difference
JB is in his 9th season.
Kyler Murray is not that good. Just like Tua.
Happy for Jacoby. He's nobody's idea of a star, but he's a pro.
Dude, Jacoby answered those questions, like a starting QB. As a Cardinals fan, he is the starter in my eyes. The way he just wants to elevate everyone and win games is awesome. I love his demeanor and willingness to take hits in the pocket. Is he as talented as Kyler? No. But talent isn't everything and height as QB has a lot to do with it. And I don't mean that as a dig at K1, that's just facts.
5:12 that's a friend s real homie. "If he wouldn't of responded I woulda bashed him" that's great. That's a true friendship right there.
There are backups who can play well for a stretch but are 30% winners or under 20% on a bad team, you have to look at 10 or more consecutive starts to see that. Brissett is 1-2, he ends up 3-9 with numbers, is someone who is not tanking going to make him their starter. Murray without running is maybe backup material, he is fragile is a problem, he is probably a higher win percentage than Josh Dobbs, so being over for Murray is too much. The question is, he matures, you take away the running, is he a good enough QB and could bring a team like the Vikings to a Super Bowl if they have a QB consistency problem.
If Flaco goes to the championship game he is better than Burrow, winning and staying on the field, and injuries count. Flaco is 1-3 and ends up 3-9, is anyone going to make him their starter at 41.
K1 is a Game changer – Ja’Kobe Bryant is a Game manager
He’s a back up get a grip
HE PLAYED AGAINST THE DALLAS DEFENSE!!!!!! Come on now
Lawrence for Kyler
1 win against the 2nd worst defense in the NFL makes Brissett a better player? Will Hernandez has been the reason that team has been better statically. That and Petzing is now forced to call a pass first offense. Petzing was calling run plays on 3rd and long just a few weeks ago. If Jacoby can do this to Seattle next week then it legit to talk about a QB controversy. He played decent against the Colts a team that needed secondary help so bad they traded 2 1st rounder for Sauce and Green Bay another secondary that having issues and the terrible Cowboys. And he still only has one win. The Kyler hater are in full effect.
