Blue Jackets @ Canucks – Charlie Coyle, Damon Severson and Head Coach Dean Evason | Postgame Media

Yeah, I mean it was back and forth. It was anyone’s game. We I mean we’ll have to look at some video, but I felt like we were we were in the driver’s seat. Like we we felt like we were our game was going we were getting the opportunities, the chances. Uh so that’s a that’s a tough one to let slip. Is it I mean did it feel like you guys were trading them a little bit or did you feel like you were giving the better of it? Yeah, I mean, yeah, probably a little bit of that, but there’s things we can, of course, clean up and and look at that, but our chances were there. Uh, yeah, they got one more than us, you know, it just comes down to that and uh but there’s still that feeling that we should have we should have pulled that one out and that’s that’s what hurts. I’m say another one of those games where you played a lot of good minutes and don’t get the results. Is it kind of key moments in games 60 minutes where you just kind of have to stay consistent and be able to get the win? Yeah, it it’s usually the team that sticks to the way they do things and wait for the other team to start cheating or try to force things and play under your favor. Um, we probably could have done a little bit better job of that. Um, but again, we’ll have to watch some video and a lot was going on, a lot happening. So, but I it was there for us. take the lead shortly after killing that penalty. Like how much momentum does a team get from killing up a fiveminute major like that? It can be huge for on our bench and and for us and kind of dampen things over on their end too when you know they have five minutes they think they should score at least once, right? And you don’t get that uh result. You know, it can kind of deflate things on their end. But for us, it’s like, hey, let’s get let’s use that to kind of get us moving and that le next line up, you know, let’s let’s let’s get going here and and keep pushing and gain that momentum even more. So, it’s a it’s a big thing killing off something like that, but you got to use to your advantage and then um do what you can to get that result and just again stick to what we do in our game. The way your top line was going, I’m surprised you guys weren’t able to get that equalizer late like the chances and how they played tonight. Yeah, it’s it just they came up huge for us, you know, with those goals and putting us ahead and um yeah, it just felt like it was it was coming for us and especially for them, but for us as a whole, like it was there and even some of the chances we couldn’t finish and yeah, again, I keep I keep reading it, but it was it was there for us and like that’s those are the games you need that you can’t afford to let slip. We need to take advantage of those. Charlie was just out here and said that felt like one that you you had there and just kind of got away. Does it feel the same for you where you just you guys played a lot of good minutes and it just couldn’t finish it off? Yeah, for sure. I think that’s pretty bang on. Um we played pretty well tonight obviously uh you know gave that one up late and that was ultimately the deciding factor, but for the most part we played a good game. What I mean a little bit it was a pretty wild third period. Would you like it to be a little tighter? Did you guys get drawn into trading chances or do you feel like you had enough of the better ones? I don’t know. That’s I think there was a few chances traded. I think um there was some bouncing pucks out there that were just kind of creating chances for both teams. I think um it was like, you know, there was just some rush chances. You know, both sides had them, but it wasn’t like they were super great A’s. I know a couple of their goals they were right net front and just net front battles but um you know just the last one was a off the rush just kind of a wrist shot that went in but and same one with our tangle I think the third one was just off the rush wrist shot that went in so um I don’t think it was necessarily trading chances it was just you know a little bit stingy at times and then there was times where there was some chances to be had but they ultimately just got one more than we did tonight. How frustrating does it become though Damon because you know in some of the other games there are points where you’re like okay that’s that’s why it happened today. This was a pretty solid game and still don’t get the result. Yeah, I think that um we obviously know we’re not going to win every game, but if we play that that way and if we play the right way how our team is structured and needs to play, then we’re going to give ourselves an opportunity. We give ourselves an opportunity tonight. We just obviously didn’t get the job done. So that that part sucks obviously losing three in a row now. Um tough start to this trip, but um you know, we got another opportunity in Edmonton and a backto-back with Seattle to get back in the win column before we head back home. For those of us that don’t get to see your top line in action, is that kind of indicative of of what they’ve given you this year? Yeah. Yeah. I think uh Fant there was a switch with Monahan and Fantelli, but it really doesn’t matter with with guys who play with, you know, those two Russians and and Marenko and Veronov just they just look for each other out there. You can see they feed off each other. They they make plays and and the center is just almost a facilitator and just tries to get open and um create space for those guys and and they obviously get some real good opportunities because of it as well. So, it’s fun when you’re on the ice w with with with that line and I really enjoy it. Always talking plays and and talking things we can do to get better and and opportunities that we’re we’re all seeing out there. So, they’re they’re a really solid line no matter who the center is. But, uh it’s it’s elite for sure. All right, Dean. Uh how do you feel about this loss tonight? Well, it’s it’s a tough one because for the most part we played well. Um but the the goals that we gave them um three are turnovers and one’s a crucial part of the hockey game where we allow people to get in behind us for a semi breakaway. It just um it just it it can’t happen. We can’t continually um you know give those type of goals away where we’re uh you know we’re not making teams earn them as much as we should be and consequently you know we’ve lost three in a row. you had Olivier out which caused you to mix up your forward lines a little bit. What did you see there with those lines? We’re going to have to go back and look and um you know clearly we’ll see what uh you know we expended some energy there up front trying to double some people up but um you know we’ll have to look at the combinations again. We’ll have to see you know I don’t think there’ll be anything come of it just because it wasn’t a real hit to the head. So, um, but we’ll we’ll see. But, yeah, we’ll have to evaluate. You know, we played with the combinations a little bit, uh, after that. You’re trying to get more guys going. How do you do that? Well, yeah, we’ve just got to continue. You know, obviously, we’ve been a bit negative here. Um, you know, we need to stay as positive as we can to turn the corner. Um, you know, and again, it’s not like we played poorly tonight. Um, but we made poor decisions. We talked about game management yesterday and it it comes up again is it just it just seems like it’s just a consistent thing. How do you get better at that? Well, yeah, we we have to just keep teaching and recognizing that, you know, when we’ve got a an even hockey game at that stage, we there’s there’s there’s no chance anyone should be getting in behind us for any type of a breakaway like it just I just don’t, you know, we’ll have to talk to some individuals and again show and and figure out what we’re thinking um in that situation if we are thinking. Um but yeah, that those are Obviously, that was a key point in the game where we just needed to, you know, hang around and and wait for our opportunity. It’s like we push a little bit maybe um you know, for offense and consequently ends up in our net.

  1. So when do those in the front office begin to answer for the spot this team's in? The fans were told they'd be in contention this year. 7-7 and losing to awful teams is unacceptable.

When are they going to do something about this Chinakhov malarkey? Is he in or is he out? When does Waddell start making those "good hockey trades" that he blathers on about and address the issues this team clearly has?

  2. There’s a lot of money tied up in that soft, undisciplined defense. I don’t understand how the CBJ lets guys park right in front of the goalie with no push back.

  3. This team made me dead inside after blowing the 2-0 playoff lead to the Capitals in 2018. 1 playoff round won in 25 years with playoff appearances rare and sporadic. Nothing about this team gives me hope for change.

  4. I’m tired of Provorov and Severson playing like roving defensemen, for the love of god one of them needs to be covering for the other i consistently see them both too aggressive and far up in the play. Both of them get burned on a goal through a pass in the neutral zone last night, how is this a hard fix it’d clear on film
