INSTANT REACTION: Dan Hicken on the Jaguars 36-29 Loss

29-10 in the fourth quarter with the Jags leading against the Houston Texans. 29-10 and you’re 6 and3 with 15 minutes to go and the Texans are 3 and6 and you have done what you needed to do, what you’re supposed to do against a backup quarterback. 29-10 with 14 minutes to go, 29-10 with 13 minutes to go. 29-10, 1216 to go. Texans get a touchdown and a two-point. Hang on a second. Jaguars go three and out. Texans come back and score again. Jags get another three and out. Texans drive it about 97 yards for the gamewinner. Jags get the ball back. Just get it to the 50. Give Cam Little a shot. Can’t even do that. What a freaking disgrace. What a disgrace. What an inept performance by a National Football League team. Allegedly, they’re allegedly a National Football League team. They blew a three touchdown lead in the fourth quarter of an NFL game. I don’t have it in front of me. I can’t imagine that ever happening before with our Jacksonville Jaguars. My mind is blank right now because I was so sure that the Jags were going to win this game and get to six and three and show the world that yes, we are a playoff team potentially. that team that we just watched against a backup quarterback who threw for 292. He threw for 292. The backup quarterback. They’re missing two offensive linemen. We can’t get to the quarterback. Our starting offensive line played Denil Hunter had four sacks. Four sacks. Not a very good team. We have Travis ETN. We have Parker Washington. I know we were missing some guys today. I get it. 29-10, we can’t scheme up a couple first downs and win this thing. 29 to 10, we can’t get a stop. Do you want me to call out players? 41. Where you at? You can’t get a sack against a rookie tackle. You can’t get a sack, huh? How about the guy we traded for a corner? He couldn’t stop Nico Collins all day long. The only time he did is when he tackled him in the end zone and the refs didn’t throw a flag thankfully. Didn’t matter. Didn’t matter. The quarterback just an average guy. Just an average guy. Week in and week out, week in and week out. Just an average guy. I don’t know what else to tell you. Offensive line terrible. 72. Oy. Oh boy. Not so good. Just a I I’m at a loss for words. 167-2 at one point in the fourth quarter in in yards. 167-2. And the Jags somehow someway lose a game to the Houston Texans when they were up 29-10. 36 to 29 because guess what? just for good measure. Last play of the game, Trev, I think they called it a fumble, pick, whatever you want to call it, returned for a touchdown. Didn’t matter once Houston got the football. Didn’t matter. None of it mattered. Oh, penalties seemed like for two and a half quarters. Did pretty well. Ended up with nine 10 penalties, about 200 yards of offense. I don’t know what to tell you. I can’t believe we have five wins. How about that? I can’t believe we I can’t believe we have five wins. The Jaguars, I don’t know. Pick up the pieces. It only counts as one loss. I guess the only good thing I could tell you, boys on Twitter, kill me. I deserve it. I was trying to change the culture. I thought we were going to change the culture. They told me we were changing the culture. I believed that’s not culture change. There’s no culture change there. There’s no we’re going to let you be who you want to be. No, no culture change at all. Where’s the culture change? S O S A J. S O S A J. You know what it means? I know what it means. Same old sorry ass jacks. Sorry. Get what you deserve. Tony Baselli said, “Judge us on Sundays.” I’m judging. I’m judging. Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Disgraceful. Disgraceful. How do you blow a 29-10 lead in the National Football League in the fourth quarter? How do you do it? How do you do it? They did it. And I shouldn’t be surprised. And I’m sorry, Jacksonville. I’m sorry. I let you all down on Twitter. I thought we had it. I thought we changed the culture. I thought we were going to show him. There’s I watched this. Davis Mills is 519 and one as a starter. Now he’s 619-1. Three of the wins against the Jags. Change of culture. So boy, I won’t say anything bad. I’ve already said enough. That’s my view. Goodbye now.

Action Sports Jax’s Dan Hicken weighs in on what we just witnessed as the Jaguars fall 36-29 in Houston after a fourth quarter collapse.

  1. This is very well put. Those people blaming Trevor Lawrence? Shut the hell up…. ITS EVERYONE'S FAULT!!! Liam Cohen screwing around instead of utilizing our timeouts. Josh Allen BEING INVISIBLE!! Travon Walker getting stiff armed by a back-up QB… WEAK!!!! Armstead yet again non-existant just like last year! Walker Little being the weakest LT in all the NFL. The defensive secondary looks lost!! Receivers still droping balls. Oh, and let's not forgot the complete LACK OF DISCIPLINE TO PLAY A CLEAN GAME WITH LITTLE TO NO PENALTIES!!!! And yes…. Trevor Lawrence not being clutch and still throwing inaccurate throws. ITS EVERYONE!!!!

  2. We got rid of Bortles after year 5. At least Bortles ceiling was never as sky high as Trevor's. He's going to end up having 2-1 more play off wins than TLaw. Let's face it. He is not him. Hicken is spot on and I hope other local pundits start telling the truth like this. I've never seen the fans mostly in unison about Tlaw starting to realize this is it and he is not him. So many people die hards who gave TL excuses week after week and are finally seeing how he really is. "new coach, new scheme etc". What about Daniel Jones? Brand new team, brand new coaching staff, where is his excuses. He came from a more terrible situation than TL. Obviously Texans have a top defense, but it's everything all adding up to see how average he is. Even when he has good time to throw, he still makes it a struggle. He has no killer instinct. He doesn't have any fire in him when you watch other QBs. I hate to say it, but he's mentally soft.

  3. This has nothing to do with culture. It’s personnel. This is an awful roster. They simply suck. Baalke destroyed this franchise. BTJ will turn out to be worst 1st round pick in franchise history. Cant trade him because he’s not worth more than 4th round pick. JHA/trevon/armstead absolutely horrible. Jags have fewest sacks and most dropped passes. This is without question worst receiving group in NFL. Why does it seem that everyone else’s receivers are wide open and jags never are. (Myers was open few times). Trevor not a generational talent but who knows if he can lead this team…. They suck. How many pro bowlers… none except for long snapper. Its going to take at least a few years to clean up Baalkes BS. Also, is Travis Hunter worth what they gave up??? I hope so but doubt it.

  4. Thanks, Dan, for stepping up and telling it like it is. Most of our local media are just getting to the point to where they're starting to admit it. You have been blowing the horn for a little while now.
