REACTION: Cleveland Browns Suffer INEXCUSABLE Loss to New York Jets | No Change at QB Expected

[Music] Nobody should be safe after the Cleveland Browns 2720 loss to the New York Jets in week 10. We’ll talk about it coming up on the Lockdown Bronze podcast. We knew this Browns team was supposed to be bad. Yes, but Sunday’s loss was patently inexcusable. It wasn’t all bad on offense on Sunday, and Kevin Stfensky says he’s sticking with Dylan Gabriel. I do want to thank you for being an everydayer with the Lockown Browns podcast, making us your first listen every single day. This is quite frankly rock bottom, at least in 2025. I’m not saying in franchise history or anything like that, but for this season, as far as this thing is concerned, as far as this regime is concerned, this is rock bottom. And there’s a there’s a major reason why I’m saying this because yes, I understand we can all look back during the off season, during the the preeason, in the leadup to this year, throughout these first however many weeks of the season here, and say that we expected this Browns team to be a bad football team. That much is true. I would never deny that. I would never take that away. The Browns, I think, even understood because Jimmy Hasslam, the way he talks about the future of this franchise. He mentions how they knew it was going to take time to dig themselves out of this quarterback hole that they’re in and finding that guy. And so, patience has been the common theme. There was some level of of acceptance that this year probably wasn’t going to go that well. But there was also an understanding that it wasn’t going to be this bad. like that Jets team that that the Browns lost to today here at Metife Stadium. That Jets team was actively trying to lose that game. And they told you that on Tuesday at the trade deadline when they traded away two of their key players on defense in Quinton Williams and S Gardner. They’re tanking. They are an actively tanking team. They were not prioritizing winning today. No matter what their owner, GM, head coach want to say, they’re a new group. I get why they they took that route. Many Browns fans thought the Browns should take that route. They didn’t do it. They have they have sold this season as we’re going to try to win. We’re not just throwing in the towel. They didn’t trade Miles Garrett this off season for that very reason. And the Jets did. The Jets signal to everybody out there, hey, we are actively looking to have a high pick next year. and the Browns came out here and still found a way to lose this game to them. And it was the way that they lost, guys. The Browns allowed on defense in total for the uh Chicago Bears 169 yards of total offense. And teams that allow that many yards of total offense don’t lose football games. They just don’t. I saw this stat from ESPN. Since 1950, teams had been 225 and0 when holding opponents to 175 yards or fewer and not turning the ball over. The Browns were the first team to lose in that span. There’s that old saying that the Browns find ways to lose or create new ways to lose. They did that today. It’s another absurd way to lose a football game against a Jets team that could not move the football. They went into the fourth quarter. Justin Fields had, I think it was 11 yards, 12 yards passing. Like, they had shut that offense down. They couldn’t do anything on offense. And you let them hang around in this game. You let them have a lead in this game, frankly, in the first half because of the same costly mistakes that have cost this team time and time again. You score a touchdown to take the lead. Seven nothing Browns on the second drive of the game. You’re feeling pretty good about things. Ensuing kickoff, 99 yard kickoff return for New York. Now, it’s a tie game. Then you go three and out. Then they return a punt 74 yards for a touchdown and they take a 14-7 lead. You got to the end of the first quarter. The the the Jets had run I think eight plays it was and they had been outgainained 87 to13 and somehow they were winning the football game. Like it’s it’s it’s the special teams errors that continue to plague this team. Bubba Ventron just sat there on Thursday and told everybody that he felt pretty good about the way they finished the second half the the second portion of the first half of the season. um like the back half of that first half of the season, if that makes sense. In terms of their special team units, the the big errors weren’t there anymore. Well, they were glaring today and they were certainly here today and it cost you a game. It allowed the Jets to hang around. I think those two plays kind of built their confidence where they were like, “Hey, all of a sudden we’re in this thing. All of a sudden, we have a chance to win.” And then in the key spots and in key moments of the game late in the fourth quarter, they made the plays they needed to to get the job done. Bree saw the the the 48 yard the 42 yard uh touch the touchdown on the screen pass like and in the in the key moments of games they made enough plays to win. The Browns didn’t. They let him hang around and this is what you get. 2720 you lose the game. We’ll get into the fact that I actually think there was some positive signs for the offense today. But none of that matters when you lose a game to a Jets team that was actively not trying to win. and in a season that we knew was going to be bad but wasn’t expected to be this bad. And so here’s the here like here’s the thing. I always ask the question like where do you go from here? I understand what Jimmy Hasslam’s been saying. I understand that every chance he gets a microphone put in his face, he tries to give a vote of confidence to Andrew Barry and Kevin Stfansky and tell everybody, I like this group. I like the direction. I feel good about this. I trust those guys. That’s all fine and good. There is no possible way in my mind that you can lose a game like you lost today and that it doesn’t become a conversation at the end of the year that you’re going to have to move on and find the new head coach and general manager. Like there it to not even have it be a possibility because well I have confidence in these guys would be malpractice from an owner if he doesn’t even if he doesn’t at least consider it. Like this is as bad of a loss as you can get in the season that wasn’t again projected to be very good. But the whole point was if the Browns were going to try to win while also rebuilding, if that was what they were trying to thread the needle on doing, which we talked about so much on this very podcast, you can’t lose to the teams that you’re supposed to beat. And that was what I kind of mapped out when I said six and six and 11 for this team at the beginning of the season. I thought they’d get over the the over total in Vegas of five and a half. It was because I saw some spots on the schedule it was like, well, they could win that game and they could win that game against teams that roster-wise I I thought were inferior or at least level with them. That was one of these games today. This Jets game was a team that you had no business losing to and they lost it. So, the idea that everybody was just going to be the idea that everybody should be safe or is going to be safe because the owner keeps telling you I I I don’t know how we can possibly at this juncture believe that that’s going to be true. when you get to the end of the season, it has to at least be a thought. There’s no reason that anybody should be safe after today moving forward because the Brown like, yeah, there’s some other games on the schedule that I would circle and say they could win that one, they could win that one. The Raiders, for example, um the the Titans after that coming up in in early December, those are winnable games. Sure. But at this point, when you see what happened today on the field here at Metife, how can you trust the Browns to even win the winnable games? And that’s the biggest problem here is they can’t they can’t win those games. And and and that was the whole point when Jimmy Ham’s at the owner’s meetings a couple weeks ago saying things like, “I thought Kevin Stfansky really rallied our team around, you know, in the locker room to beat the Dolphins a couple weeks back.” Well, you can’t even hang your hat on that in this one. You just lost. You lost to a team that you shouldn’t have lost to. And at the end of it, that’s inexcusable. So, nobody should be safe. Nobody should just be able to come back in 2026 and and and run it back because, well, we’re going to give them some time to fix this thing. Like, no. At the end of the day, it’s the NFL. It’s a resultsbased business and if you’re not in in six years, this has gotten gradually worse for this group and they’re at a point right now where I I think they are teetering in the wrong direction and it’s it’s going to be a legitimate conversation the rest of the way here. Whether or not Jimmy Hassam is going to pull the trigger on it, I guess remains to be seen, but I think he would be silly not to think about it because you got to win in this league and and you got to get results in the field and they just aren’t there for the Browns and this this regime’s had a lot of time to get this thing right. I will say as negative as I sound, as bad as it feels for after this game today, there were some positive signs on the offensive side of the football, we’ll talk about that coming up here on the Lockdown Bronze podcast. So, listen, as as bad as everything might seem after this loss today, and as as bad as I obviously painted it in that that opening segment here, it honestly wasn’t all bad for the Browns, particularly on the offensive side of the football, which has been their biggest weakness uh in this season, as we already are well aware. Like I understand Kevin Stfansky handed the play calling over to Tommy Reese in an attempt to try to find some juice in the offense and and ignite something. I think you saw a little bit of something today. I also think guys in the locker room gave some credence to that. Guys like Wyatt Teller, uh guys like Joel Batonio talked about how they thought there was some more momentum behind things that they saw sort of the vision of what Tommy Ree was trying to accomplish and it did feel throughout that game even though the results didn’t necessarily bear itself out. Now listen, they did score 20 points, second most this season. One of those touchdowns gifted of course by the defense yet again who gets the interception, the easy pick from from Justin Fields by Ronnie Hickman and what was one of the easiest interceptions you’ll ever make in your life. Gets him down inside just outside the 20 actually. And then one play later, you get yourself a touchdown. So that that helped the m help matters. But you get to 20 points. There was some better movement of the football. Here I’ll just here here’s what I’ll do. I will highlight all the things that I think stood out to me that looked different from the offense this week versus other weeks where they couldn’t get out of their own way. They it felt stuck in the mud and and why I felt like there was promise. And the first thing is what I was kind of alluding to there, the idea that they were actually sort of staying ahead of the sticks at times. They were running the football and then they pick up a third down and they’d kind of keep it moving. It just felt like things float a little bit better. But here’s the other thing. We’ve talked about stretching the field. We talked about not being able to push the ball down the field much this season. Tommy Reese tried that today and I think you saw actually the benefits of it even when it doesn’t lead to a big completion early on in this game. It was actually the Browns touchdown drive, the first touchdown drive they had, second possession they had of the game. Uh Dylan Gabriel throws it down the far sideline to Cedric Tilman. Tilman almost made a really nice one-handed catch. It ended up being incomplete, but there’s a flag on the play. Defensive pass interference. gives you an automatic first down. You keep the sticks moving and ultimately that drives that drive ends in a touchdown. That was the epitome of why pushing it down the field is important. Even if the play doesn’t work, even if it doesn’t convert, sometimes it just gets you to draw a penalty. Sometimes it just means you get a you get you get a free first down because the defense makes a mistake or there’s holding or whatever and you get that play. That’s why you got to push the ball down the field. And so you saw that today. Um, and I think that was a positive on the second touchdown throw, the one to Jerry Judy. Another deep shot cuz that’s a I mean that’s at the end of the day that’s an explosive play. It was from the 22 yardd line. Um, a really nice play design where you had Dylan sort of boot to his right, stop, look back to his left. Jerry Judy had run a crosser from the the right side to the left and he found him in the back in the sort of running towards the far sideline of the end zone. Um, it was a really nice play. It actually happened right over here to my to my left where he caught that ball. And I think that was another another example of like, yeah, we’re trying to get the ball downfield. We’re trying to make some plays happen uh in in this passing game that aren’t just just beyond the line of scrimmage and the checkdowns and all the stuff that Dylan’s obviously done maybe the the best to this point during his time as the quarterback of this football team. And so they forced the issue there. I I thought that was good. We’ll talk more about Dylan specifically coming up, but I I thought that was good that he tried to do that. Obviously force-feeding Jerry Judy. He had 12 targets today. Caught six passes, 78 yards, the touchdown all season highs for him. So that was an encouraging sign for the Browns who obviously two weeks ago against the Patriots, he had two targets. He was not a focal point of the offense. That’s bad. That is not what you want for Jerry Judy. You need to get him touches and they’re well aware of that. So there was another positive thing that they tried to do that. Um, and I thought that it was nice that Tommy Reese didn’t just abandon the run when things got tight. He stuck with it and tried to make that a focal point of their game. The problem is these teams still don’t fear the Browns passing attack. And so they’re loading up the box, selling out to stop Quinshan Judkins, and he had 75 yards today, but only 3.4 yards per carry because it’s just very hard for him to really do anything when the teams just pack eight guys in the box and say, “All right, try to beat us with your passing detect.” Wasn’t going to happen today. And it didn’t. other than those few couple plays that led to positive gains for them, there just wasn’t a lot there. And so, we know the skill positions are still not feared on this team. The problems on offense largely became like like stupid penalties. There was a point early in the in the game first half. Browns had the ball fourth and one, I think it was at their own 44 and they were going to go for it and then a false start penalty by Herofan Jr. moves them back five yards and they decide to punt instead. It it’s those little things, the little details that are costing the Browns on top of the special teams blunders and and whatever else. But like we know this offense just still isn’t good. And I think that’s what you noticed today was like even when there was some signs of life, it would still be the same mistakes that cost him. Jerry Judy dropped another pass today. Uh even though he had his best game, you had the penalties like I mentioned. You had just miscues. You had bad offensive line play. Dylan Gabriel was sacked six times, four times by Will McDonald, who had a Miles Garrettesque performance right in front of Miles Garrett’s face. I mean, it was it was crazy the type of game that he had in this one. And like they traded Quinton Williams, didn’t seem like they missed him much today. They were still able to get out to the quarterback. They were still able to make Dylan Gabriel uncomfortable and and that played itself out on the field. So, the same problems persisted, but you saw a little bit, I think, better game plan overall. The other thing I didn’t even mention in relation to Dylan Gabriel is that I I liked that Tommy Reese tried to get him out of the pocket more, rolling to his left, trying to see things with these level concept type plays where he can sort of go read to read to read, level to level to level to try to find who he needs to get the ball to and make those throws. I thought that was really smart. I I I had wondered why Kevin Stfansky hadn’t done more of that in the weeks leading up to this game. Tommy Reese tried to use it today and and I think it was effective. I think it’s actually an effective tool to get Dylan having more success just in general moving forward throughout the rest of the season. So, I look forward to him continuing to do some more of that. But don’t make no mistake about it. Like this offense is still bad and when you only score 20 points when that’s a struggle when you need the defense to get you a pick that gets you down to the basically the 20 and then to score they sort of gifted you one there and and it’s tough sledding. You’re going three and out time and time again. you’re still not this, you know, you’re watching some of these other games where teams are putting up like 26 points in the fourth quarter like the Texans did and it just feels like you’re watching a completely different sport. Um, like it’s it still is not great and we know the weaknesses on this team are glaring on that side of the ball specifically the the skill positions, the offensive line, those aren’t going to get fixed during the season. But I thought overall the idea the the thought process behind giving Tommy Reese the play calling and and the plan he came up with and executed today was on the right track towards what this team wants to do. I think they’re that and that’s the key thing. What they wanted to execute I think was was right. They don’t necessarily have the players to execute exactly what they want to do though. That’s where the issue lies. But I think you saw that there was a lot to like about what Tommy Reese brought to the table from a play caller standpoint. And so in that regard, I think Kevin Sansky’s decision did work. It’s it just still wasn’t enough for a a bad Browns offense to to overcome and and ultimately get this win. I talked about the offense without really getting too much into Dylan Gabriel. But we have to talk about him because Kevin Sansky said after the game he’s sticking with him as the quarterback next week as the Browns will get will go home to host the Baltimore Ravens. We’ll talk about that decision. We’ll play you a little audio as well coming up on the Lockdown Bronze podcast. So, I talked about the offense and that I actually thought there was some positive signs from that side of the football today. But listen, there’s no beating around the bush with Dylan Gabriel at this point. We’re not stupid. We all have eyes. We all see what’s happening here. And while I thought there was some positive moments for Dylan within this this different offensive scheme that they are running and not not not completely different scheme, let me rephrase that. But within the the game plan that Tommy Reese came up with that was at least a little bit different from what we’d seen in the past, the roll out stuff to to name one key thing that they got him sort of doing. There were still a lot of inconsistencies from Dylan Gabriel for some of those great roll out throws that he made. There were also some bad ones that just completely missed the mark. Even in the pocket, there were some that completely missed the mark. Actually, right before the half, the Browns were driving down the field to try to kick a game-tying field goal. And Dylan Gabriel almost threw the ball away right to a DB because he missed Cedric Tilman over the middle bad. It was well behind him. Almost threw a pick. I mean, that would have could change the complexion of the game at that point, too, because you would have gone into the half down instead of being tied, which was, I think, I think a win for them, the fact that they did go into the half tied up. Um, but beyond or sorry th those plays were were the ones that I’m talking about when I say that there’s just still too many inconsistencies from Dylan Gabriel. Yes, there’s some good throws and that’s honestly it was said in the press box today. I’ll give Daniel Oyusi from ESPN a shout out here because he sort of brought this up in the press box. He made Dylan Gabriel makes a couple throws who you’re like okay he had a he had some good ones today. He had one to Harold Fannon sort of crossing to the far sideline where he zipped it into tight coverage and made a nice play. He had a couple others where you were like, “Wow, I can get behind that.” But then for every like two throws like that, there’s like five that you’re like, “What is that?” Misses the mark, dirts a ball on an easy pass in the flat, throws the ball too high, throws the ball behind a guy, it’s just too inconsistent at this point. Um, you know, some of this is not his fault. We’ve talked about that at Nauseium. the offensive line, Patton Lee, not very good this year. The the receiving position, the the the pass catchers he has, the skill positions he has, not great. And the ones that are good are still young developing. Guys like Harold Fannon, the Jooku is a pretty consistent weapon, but you know, they get the ball when they can. He had a touchdown today. Um, but at the same time, it’s just it’s just there’s a lot of issues around him, so it’s not all on him. I’ve continued to say that. I sound like Cameron Stfansy now when I say this. even the coaching to a degree, even the offense they were probably executing before this week wasn’t necessarily doing him a lot of favors. But in the grand scheme of things, as for every I think there’s positives with Dylan, but then it’s like for he takes a step forward and then he takes two steps back. And that’s what’s so I think difficult for people to grasp and wrap their head around. Despite all those inconsistencies though, Kevin Stfansky made it clear he’s sticking with Dylan Gabriel after the game. Here’s him talking about that and Dylan reacting to the fact that that Kevin Sansky is not making a change just yet. Yeah, we’re going to stick with Dylan. Obviously, this is a um young players that that you’re always trying to get one game better and those type of things, but uh we have to play better as an offense. We have to coach better. All the above. Yeah, when things aren’t going well, there’s always going to be change. That’s part of it because keep doing the same thing and don’t change anything, then it’s insanity. But um just I feel like at times there’s things that went well and we sustained and executed and then um in certain moments we didn’t execute and that starts with me. But um yeah, it’s it’s always frustrating when it’s not going the way you want it to and you put in the work and time, but in crucial moments you got to have it and execute and we didn’t. So Kevin confidently saying he’s sticking with Dylan Gabriel and I talked about it this past week like there is something to be said for a young player, young quarterback especially giving him the time he needs to develop. I said if it was Shador Sanders who I’ve said from the beginning I think is a better player and better quarterback. You know I I’ wouldn’t want them to pull the plug after four or five games either. So I understand that. Um, at the same time, I if you’re and Dylan alluded to it, like if you’re trying the same thing, but you’re not getting the same the you’re getting the if you keep trying the same thing over and over again expecting to get different results and you’re not, at some points, you got to change something. And so, I think those comments from him were pretty interesting because a he seems pretty dejected just in general about another loss and and a tough showing today by the offense. But I it also does feel like he’s understanding where he’s at in terms of yeah, if I don’t get if this thing doesn’t get turned around, if there’s not if there’s not better quarterback play from me and from the offense and execution wise, things are going to change and I’m going to sort of blow this opportunity. Like I I think he understands that that’s on the horizon because he he essentially said that. Um so he continues to look for answers. Fans continue to look for answers from Dylan Gabriel as and from the team as to why he’s still out there. I think Kevin Sansancy kind of told you it’s a young player. They’re hoping they can still salvage and give some time here and give a leash to and I’m sure that’s going to continue next week for sure it sounds like and maybe beyond for a few more. Um I still feel confident we’ll see Shador Sanders at some point but I’ve I’ve always kind of said early December is the target and I think that sort of stays true especially after today and especially after those comments from Kevin Stfansky um about sticking with Dylan moving forward here and giving him the time that they feel necessary to let him grow into his own and figure this thing out. You can agree, you can disagree. I think most people disagree at this point, but that’s the plan that they’re sticking with. Um, at some point they’re going to have to change it again. But I think they’re also, now that they changed offensive coordinators, or not offensive coordinators, but play callers more specifically, I think they are trying to give him some time to sort of grow into what Tommy wants to do. So, okay. But I’ll tell you, like I was expecting a lot more from Dylan today in a game where the weather didn’t actually end up being that big of a factor. Didn’t rain until the fourth quarter. Uh, and you know, byee coming off the by-week, new perspective on the offense as a whole. I I just thought there’d be a little bit better play. And I think you saw some good things. Like I said, there were some throws today that he haven’t seen him made in a couple weeks here, really since the London game. And I was like, okay. But then for every step forward, there’s two steps back where he’s missing a guy that’s open or he doesn’t see something. There was that play on fourth and one late in the in the game where the blitz came off the edge. He was hot. didn’t see Quinn Sean in the in in the flat off to the right and ends up getting getting sacked there. Like just another example of why he’s still learning and developing, but also the the issues with this offense just in general and some of the things that he’s not seeing. So certainly room to get better. I I don’t know how much room there is for Dylan to improve from here, but they’re sticking with him for now to see what happens. Um I I don’t know that much changes. I think it’s probably going to be more of the same for him. And I do think at this point we are very very close to needing to make that change and see a different quarterback in there because it’s it’s the it’s what Dylan said trying the same thing over and over again expecting different results and and those results just aren’t coming right now. So we’ll have to see when the change is made but it doesn’t sound like it’s coming this week and I know that’s going to frustrate a lot of people. Um but but yeah I thought Dylan had another poor showing today where you were hoping for more from him. There were moments, but that’s been the problem. There’s there’s been moments with Dylan so far in his first five starts. It just hasn’t been consistent enough to get this team over the top and and and produce on the field and produce winning football. So, that’s going to do it for another episode with you, dog pound. 1. Everyone knows the plays the browns will call. stack the box and force Dillon to pass. They know Dillon cant pass not go down field, a typical QB3, Dillon not even a QB2. I said during the Bye, this game is a TRAP.

  2. Holy shit! The Browns lost to the tanking Jets! The Jets don’t even want to win!!! The Jets have the worst QB in the NFL! They shipped their two best defenders off last week! And the Browns are coming off a bye… WOW, just WOW! The Jets have the worst pass defense in the entire NFL! And the Jets have a horrible rookie head coach! If Stefanski had any honor he’d resign Monday morning!

  3. Another thing, listening to Stefanski post game and he’s so smug and indifferent to the Browns fans like he’s Bill Bilachick with a fist full of Superbowl rings and knows everything! He’s never won a single playoff game and never won the division…. Loser, I hope you Browns fans get to have him a few more years…

  4. There was nothing positive in this Game The Browns shouldn't have lost this game the Jets Defense was giving the Game away for the First 3 quarters but the browns refused to win they can't score over 20 pts

  5. Might as well not let Shedeur play this season. He’s a VALUE PICK so trade Shedeur in April, get y’all QB so we can finally leave Cleveland behind and win elsewhere with Shedeur!!

  6. CJ Mosley did the same thing a few seasons ago. By the same thing I mean he dove over the D Line sealing (he may have tackled the QB😅. I might be exaggerating) a Jets loss. We have seen THIS before

  7. When you describe Browns’ offense as having more positives, there’s a disconnect with your listeners who watched the same game & saw that your subtle improvement led to JUST ANOTHER LOSS. With a 53% completion rate, with dropped passes, with overthrows & underthrows, with 6 sacks — it’s visible to even their blind fans that NOTHING has really changed. Gabriel’s consistently been unable to perform as QB1 … and, worse, Stefanski has shown 52 other roster players that “mediocre but safe” is the Browns standard/culture now.

  8. Dude saying that they knew coming in this was going to be a bad season makes it sound like they are powerless and outside forces that are out of their control causing it to be a bad season. They brought it on themselves with poor salary cap management and poor personnel decisions.
