Bruins’ Fraser Minten and a grand slam trade: ‘Best player on the ice’

  1. In hindsight the leafs would’ve been so much better off if they had just kept their 1st rounders and developed them internally, instead of leveraging them to go ‘all-in’ year after year.

  2. Another short sighted and stupid decision by Treliving. Carlo is soft as fuck, can’t skate and pass.

  3. Lmao what a stretch. He’s a defensively responsible depth forward. People acting like he’s Bergeron. If this was a trade with any other team other then leafs and bruins it would not be a topic of conversation

  4. As soon as we lost to Boston two years ago I so badly wanted Brad to just sit tight last year. He was handcuffed with being able to trade Marner but adding Laughton and Carlo wasn’t going to put us over the top and it is egregious what he spent to get those two players.

    Brutal

  5. Minten would be playing for the Marlies still if he was here. He’s in the show because the B’s roster is ass. The Leafs currently suck, but imo that’s coaching and goaltending.

  6. Goos him and them. Sometimes payers thrive in a system and sometimes they don’t. We have to focus on our roster, not anyone else’s.

  7. I personally love Carlo. He is a great piece that hopefully will keep getting better with Reilly this year.

That being said, I said at the time giving up Minten was a mistake. He was the heir apparent to Tavares as our 2C..

Can’t wait to see Brad trade Cowan for Perry and signing him to a 3 year deal.

  9. He’s definitely not the “best player on the ice”, but I’m still very salty about the trade. Should have kept him.

  10. I need a list of all
Players we traded away and all we received

I bet we’re better off without trading anyone

  11. Both Dubas and Tre were awful decisions for this franchise. Putting an inexperienced kid in charge of a generational roster was a mistake. Then turning it over to someone who’s had a very little success over the past 5 years.

Terrible management all around. Asset and personnel.

  12. “ best player on the ice” let’s all fucking relax here. He’s a 3C on most teams right now.

  13. It’s hard at this point to criticize the Leafs for going all in for the last 5 or so years. That’s not to say you can’t look back and criticize some of the individual trades themselves. Rather, the plan of going for it was sound given where they were at in their window.

With that being said, we are now firmly at the point where we need to re-stock the cupboard and hang onto whatever young pieces we have. Now that this season is starting to look like it might be a step back year, the worst thing they could do would be to be aggressive just to chase a playoff spot. That’s when franchises really get into trouble – when they double down on going all in when it’s obvious they missed their chance.

  14. Treliving is failing. But frustrating how Leafs always repeat mistakes trading their young talent away.

  15. I don’t follow Hockey that closely, I don’t even keep track of the Leafs regular season but I’ll tune in occasionally.

I saw Minten playing last year or whatever and I liked him already. Something about his game. I remember at a family Christmas party I specifically asked if he was playing that night.

Do I have better intuition than the Leafs?

  16. I know it’s the day to say “fuck the leafs” after two losses

But the brother has 6 points in in 17 games he is not quite on the McDavid level just yet

  17. Almost every Trekiving acquisition looks like shit. No skill, big lumbering idiots. I wonder if he just ignores his scouts?

  18. O come on, minten isn’t that good. Could he? Maybe but not yet, just because you wanna dunk on the leafs don’t make shit up there’s plenty of legit reasons to dunk on em.

  19. I saw Minten play a few games in the WHL. Wasn’t impressed 🤷

Then again, I’m not a pro scout.

  20. The leafs biggest issue has always been a lack of patience from management. The one time they showed patience they came away with matthews, nylander and marner from drafts during a rebuild. Going for win now is almost always a terrible move in a salary cap, you need picks for longevity and to improve, otherwise you just lose players to the cap and slowly get worse.

  21. Even if we had kept Minten this franchise doesn’t really have a pathway for younger players moving up and filling in roles. The obvious exception is Knies but the dude is massive.
