Blew up last year as a reliable target and YAC monster. On pace for 50 rec, 318 yards, and 4 TDs. Yay

  1. Couldn’t possibly have anything to do with tons of injuries across the Miami offense so they relied heavily on a safety blanket TE with a backup qb.

Look at his stats other years.

  2. We don’t spread the ball around like the Dolhpins and most teams do. We limit ourselves to checkdowns and passes less than 10 yards. We also don’t have Tyreek and Waddle but still lol

  3. No our front office is just idiotic for thinking he’s a needle mover. He got these stats in a gimmick offense in Miami where he was spoon fed targets behind the line of scrimmage. Great season for a TE but that doesn’t mean he’s some great player.

  4. Arthur Smith pulled a Mike Tomlin and fooled me yet again.

    The offense is currently ranked

    **- 29th in YPG**
    **- 30th in Rushing YPG**
    **- 23rd in Pass YPG**
    **- 26th in 3rd Down Conversion %**
    **- 27th in 4th Down Conversion %**
**- 31st in Time of Possession**

    Fire these clowns.

Pair of Ben Roethlisberger and Derrick Henry merchants, they can’t run a team to save their lives if the defense and opposing team doesn’t gift them 5 turnovers each game and Boswell covering for their sorry asses.

  5. I mean, the offensive environment and scheme isn’t just apples and oranges, it’s apples and carubretors.

  6. has to be the weirdest offensive roster building. We have 3 very good receiving tight ends, but 1 good actual receiver??

  7. I don’t really think it’s poor shceming or play calling with Jonnu. I think it’s that we’ve got a deep Tight End room and the ball is being spread around a lot at that position. Freiermuth has 260 Yards and 3 scores. If the team committed to just one of the two at TE they’d probably be around 400+ yards and 5 touchdowns halfway through the season, a pace right in line with where Smith was last year.

This is more a front office thing than a coaching issue.

  8. We absolutely need to bring our offense into the 2020’s already. Its not just how dated our passing scheme is either, look at Detroit and Chicago’s running game.. that’s what we need to be doing.

  9. Those are the numbers a good TE can put up when there’s more than one good WR alongside him. Going into the season without a startable WR2 was malpractice

  10. The Steelers will remain where they are as long as Tomlin continues to be the head coach.

  11. This history also hurts us in free agency. Of course no skill position player wants to come here, just so they can be part of a system and have middling numbers which hurt their chances at a larger contract?

  12. Also we have a million other tight ends we use. Aaron Rodgers really likes Washington so I’m sure that doesn’t help Smiths numbers also.

  13. Arthur Smith is not a good pass game coordinator. We don’t throw anything in the mid range and it screws us especially in 3 and long situations.

  14. And they wonder why they couldn’t get a wr2. Wanna go to this team that passes for 4000 yards or to the Steelers where you might get 1-2 looks a game and if you’re lucky have 300 yards receiving for the year! Tough choice

  15. Man the minkah trade looks bad. Would have gladly included another 3rd or something instead of getting rid of him or leaving Jonnu alone.

  16. Miami has a an offensive scheme that has a little bit of imagination to it. The Steelers do not.

  17. Bizarre offensive schemes are what Arthur Smith’s offenses do. His Atlanta offenses were not good, and his reputation was based solely on his years in Tennessee with Derrick Henry.

In Atlanta he never got the ball to his top guys and he split carries with the running backs… which should be very familiar.

  18. Everyone everyone, pay attention. THAT QUICK PASSING GAME BULLSHIT DOESN’T WORK FOR MORE THAN HALF SEASON.

After that, defense adjusts to knowing you will be throwing quick and short and not respecting anything else. They creep in and stifle these plays for little to no gain, even losses on the play.

We started out 10-0 one of Ben’s last years, or something close to 10-0 but the teams we played adjusted and we were done

Even the run game quits working when the defense closes in. We need to be able to stretch the defense not allow them in closer

  19. miami definitely likes to use the TE on offense and especially in the red zone, look at how they immediately were using waller this season. so i figured there would be a decline for jonnu here.

that being said – i am done with smith. as a certified tomlin appreciator – i do not understand how he consistently manages to hire *the worst* coordinators. it’s a consistent negative that is doing significant damage to his legacy imo.

  20. They rotate in TEs situationally it seems. As opposed to running with a #1 TE at all times and then putting more out there as needed
