I think Howard deserves a chance but how are we saying this with a straight face…

With reports of Moore, Sellers, and others returning to school I don’t have high hopes for a QB this year
I’m confused what’s the argument here
If the argument is good QBs don’t exist past the first couple picks then I’ll point to Lamar Jackson picked 32
its been commented to me multiple times today, “howards a 6th round pick, it will take years to develop” “he was drafted to be a backup” “6th round picks dont get a shot” what a fuckin joke
Howard is likely not useful and probably never will be.
The Browns drafted 2 QB’s while Howard was still on the board. That tells me Howard could very well be a franchise QB.
Howard is a great guy, but he was a 6th rounder for a reason. We may all love him, but just because I love my brother it doesn’t mean he should be the QB of the Steelers.
Will Howard has a higher chance of never playing a meaningful snap in the NFL than he does being an above average starting QB in the league and it’s not particularly close
As an OSU fan I love will Howard but it is absolutely ridiculous how many Steelers fans are just assuming he’ll be good because he won in college. Personally I think his ceiling is somebody like Charlie batch, which would be incredible for a 6th round pick, obviously I hope I’m wrong though
I have no clue when it comes to college football (not from the US), but when i hear other saying “not a good QB class” and “XYZ might return to school for another year” i’m gonna say… look to trade that first for a first in ’27 and some extras? We picks to spare to build a roster, but first round picks are hard to get. Having 2 in ’27 might help. Again, i have no clue.
Tanner Mckee is the Eagles backip…he is better than any qb in the next draft
I don’t trust our coaches to develop a QB to succeed at the NFL level. Tomlin is not that type of coach, and he doesn’t have the staff to do it. They’re too stubborn to go and grab that type of staff.
The QB would have to be the most NFL ready QB. I just don’t really trust this team.
JayEd is wrong.
What’s most important is our ability to further develop whomever we pick. There’s no telling who KP8 could have developed into had he not had the worst coach in the league as his OC. Do we have the coaching structure to truly develop who we select into a franchise QB? 🤷♂️
giants fan here, we got dart at 25ish and he’s at least exciting if not the qb of the future
Seems a true franchise QB is just blind luck. 1st-6th round, a top tier passer can be found.
Anyone who parrots “He’s a 6th round pick” has never watched him play a single down.
Arguing about shit we have no control over.
The best QB of all time was drafted in the sixth round. What a stupid fucking argument.
None of it matters is we don’t change our coaching
What is this will Howard love fest!?!? He’s third string for a reason and looked real good the last month of a college football playoffs because he was throwing to embuka and future all star jeriamiah smith
According to Google AI: It is difficult to give a precise number of successful top-20 drafted quarterbacks because “successful” is subjective and can vary depending on the criteria used. However, sources indicate that the hit rate is roughly 46%, with the majority of picks considered misses.
Also: A 2024 analysis of first-round picks from the previous 15 years found that only 15% of quarterbacks were considered “home run” successes, while a significant portion were “misses”.
I swear people don’t understand probabilities. CAN a 6th round pick at QB become great? Sure. But the odds are really low. Like 1%.
The current NFL MVP leaders are Mahomes, Allen, Maye, Mayfield and Stafford. All drafted in the top 12 picks.
Last year’s MVP voting featured Allen, Jackson, Burrow, Goff, Daniel’s, Herbert, Darnold and Mayfield. Again, all first round picks, almost all of whom were high picks. I suppose you could discount Mayfield and Darnold slightly for not performing on the team that drafted them, but that is probably more of an indictment of the Jets and Browns.
As we go further back in time you see names like Purdy and Prescott in MVP voting. But it’s already pretty clear that these are outliers. Great QBs get drafted high. Occasional bolts of lightning occasionally show up in late round 1 or 2 (Lamar, Hurts), but are uncommon. After that is a Powerball miracle.
It’s fucking 6 months away it is way too early for internet draft analysts to post their dumb takes.
The Steelers in concept were built to win NOW, and possibly next year. It has been a failure, but that’s what they were trying to do with the off season moves. If Rodgers retires, they will likely try and find yet another reclamation project to bandaid the issues and “win now” as opposed to reaching on a QB. I don’t know if that’s the right/wrong answer either. They have many holes, it isn’t just QB. Their OL rebuild has been a failure, they spent a number of high picks on it since Khan took over and don’t have one stud.
I like howard
Actually, according to the numbers, you have a better chance of drafting a franchise quarterback if you draft three or four inbetween rounds two and seven instead of one in the top 20. The draft is a crapshoot. Having a fuck load of pics is the way to go because 50% of your pics are gonna flame out on average. The problem is every single team falls in love with those first round guys and think every one of them is going to be the one guy that changes the team’s fortune by themselves.
I would love to see a team that needs a franchise quarterback, draft three of them in one year. Yeah you waste two pics, but you triple your chance of gaining a franchise quarterback for the next 5 to 10 years. That’s well worth it.
