New York Islanders Postgame Availability | NYI 3 at NJD 2 (OT) (11/10/25)

Yeah. No, I mean I thought we battled hard all night. Um, you know, I thought Sarroi was unbelievable for us tonight again. Um, made some phenomenal saves, especially um, towards the end of the game when they kind of made a little bit of a push and um, yeah, I thought everybody played well tonight. It was it was a fun hockey game to be a part of and it uh, definitely feels good to be on the other side of that one. Did you feel the energy of like the speed on the ice and whatnot? Yeah, it was fast. It was a fast game. You know, both teams I thought worked hard. Um, you know, it’s it was a tight checking game. Um, not a lot of space out there and um, but I mean, you know, I’m glad we battled um, you know, as hard as we did and got that win. How much confidence do you have when Siroken’s playing like he like was flipping out his pads and waffle everywhere? Yeah. No, he was again, he was he’s one of the one of the best goalies in the league for a reason. And um, yeah, when when you got a guy like that behind you, um, you definitely have confidence in front of him. And um you know we we like to limit a little bit of those chances um that he had tonight, but I mean for the most part I thought we were you know the whole team play a solid game. Obviously you know penalty kill you guys had to come up with a couple of big ones in the third. Just how key was that to really turning this one around for you? Yeah it was it was really big. I mean obviously we’d like to have the the the first one back but I thought we regrouped and and we’re we’re great. I mean our D were blocking shots. Our forward was doing a good job of closing um closing lanes and and closing their uh their opportunities and their time and space. So, um, overall great job tonight, I guess. Is that kind of that feeling of being able to regroup, push past a late goal, push past, you know, the early goal to start the game, just a characteristic of this group. Yeah. No, definitely. I mean, um, you know, we’re going to deal with adversity all year. We’re going to deal with that kind of stuff. And, um, for us to overcome things like that early, um, definitely gives us confidence going forward. You always talk about having a short memory. Um, but do do you feel your game kind of building and and getting better kind of each each time you’re playing? I don’t know. Uh, please uh tell all bad world about me. I after this play better. So um I don’t don’t care about this. Uh just can say today was good game. Um I feel good and um um team team help me. Are you happy that Horvass is not mounting the other team with the way he’s shooting right now? Oh yeah. Yeah. I’m very happy. Just take us through what you saw on the Barzel gamewinner. Obviously, you had a pretty good view of it. It’s a really good pass. Um I don’t know see who pass to Dire. Yeah, really good pass. Smart play by him and Barza. He has a big master and he destroyed me. Same goal in practice every day. So when I see him, I think it’s a lot of chance for this goal. Appreciate it. Bo said that the team really regrouped after the late goal. list, you know, for this team goal late. How do you guys move past that and obviously come back to win? Oh, it’s really really hard to say from my side. Um, I just can say about me. Uh, it was a tough game tonight. Uh, a lot of shots, but I feel in shape all game and um I think it’s big win for us. And I guess for the team just to be able to move past a late goal just is that what this group is? It’s hockey. It’s hockey. It’s game continues 60 minutes and um it’s good goal good shot it’s deflection and it’s okay after after this in overtime good recovery and take winner back first period you get pain I think it was Hughes who came into the trees along with Ro were you okay through that yeah yeah I’m good a little uh he touch near my helmet little feel dizzy but not big problem do you know when you’re playing a good game and the guys are playing really well in front of you as well. Do I know when I play? Do you feel like this is this is one of those nights that I’m playing so well and the guys are playing well in front of you? Um guys guys play played amazing u I think uh one of one of best our game defensively and um deserve it. That game feel like for you? Uh it was kind of a grind to be honest with you. Um I wasn’t I wasn’t too thrilled with how the first uh you know 60 minutes went really. Um would have been nice to just close it out in overtime, but uh you know I was it made for an exciting finish, but yeah, the game itself was it’s grindy. I mean that’s just how it is on the road against Jersey. Um you got to kind of be on be on your heels a little bit in the neutral zone with with that Hughes line and he’s lines good. So it’s just it was a tough game. Obviously when you get back in the locker room looking at you’ve had to start your road trip with two really good wins. This is the way confidence builds. Yeah, I mean, you know, you always want to start road trip off on the on the right foot and those are two tough games coming in here. Um, both rivalry games. Um, good thing the travel’s nice so we can been sleeping in our own beds. But other than that, I mean, you know, we got we got five more tough games coming up and but I like the way we’re playing right now. So, I think, uh, we have the confidence to go into any building right now and and, you know, be competitive and and have a good chance of winning. Take us through the overtime winner. Um, I’ll take the second half when when I gave it to Joe. Um, he just made a great pass, you know, just right right along Hughes’s feet there was just perfect. So, um, yeah, just kind of found some space and tight and tried to make something quick. What do you make of satisfying knowing, you know, you take a penalty in the third there team is able to kill it off and then to be the one who finish it the other way? Yeah, our kill was great tonight. Um, you know, I thought, uh, a lot of guys just stepped up and made made big blocks and, you know, I think that’s going to be the team, you know, we’re going to be this year. You know, not games are going to be like that. They’re not going to be pretty. And, um, those are ones you got to find a way to win. Those are those are all teams getting in the playoffs. So, yeah, it’s just nice to obviously score, but I think the overall effort was encouraging. What do you make of what Corvette’s doing right now? I Yeah, I just said it said it on on the TV. I think, you know, he might be the the best shooter in the world right now. Um, and that’s not just cuz he’s getting lucky. That’s cuz, you know, his shot is truly world class. And anytime he’s he’s around the net or he’s got a chance uh in the slot, you know, it’s got a great chance of going in. So, none of it’s luck. It’s all it’s work. And it’s also just, you know, he’s he’s got an amazing shot. What can you say about the way Srogan’s played these last two games for you guys? Um, all year, but really, just the last Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He’s he’s been great. You can tell he’s been focused and um he’s just been he’s been rock solid. Even the, you know, even the tying goal for them tonight was a lucky bounce and and he was just, he was a wall tonight and that there was and he was playing the puck tonight, which is great, too. You can see him, you know, even trying to be better, you know, even though he’s one of the best goalies in the world. So, he’s a competitor and uh he’s he’s our backbone. How great of a game was this for you guys tonight? Well, it was um it was an important one, you know, like we’re at the start of a road trip, so you always want to try to start the road trip well, and we did actually against the Rangers. So, we just want to keep going and um we knew we’re playing against a team that played really well at home. I think they were 7 and0 at home. I mean, this year and uh we had to play a solid game and it’s exactly what the guys did. I mean, they they they’re probably the best power play in the NHL or if not one of the best. And I thought our guys were unbelievable on on on the penalty killing. I mean, the the block shots, the the the the way we uh cut those lines and when it wasn’t there, Ilia was phenomenal. It made some unbelievable save for us. Kept us, you know, in that game late and gave us a chance to have a power play and scored on that one, which was big for us for second. I mean, we could have squeezed them in the corner, but we gave them a little bit of life, but I love the commitment that that guys made. I mean, try to block the shot. and I think went through three guys and we had also a broken stick on it change direction. So those things happen but the commitment and then how resilient we were and and I thought that was a character win. I mean giving a goal at 4 second be able to win the game that was I thought that was a great team effort. I mean you look at five on five shots on that were what 25 in that game. So their power play is without a doubt a very good power play after the first uh power play goal. Go ahead. you switched your defense pairs back sort of in the second period. What were you seeing and what do you think that gave you? I didn’t pay that much attention. I really leave it to uh Boogie and and and Benny to to to decide who who should play with who. Um but I mean I feel like RD played really well. I mean um they were all really solid tonight. Just can you tell early in the night that Siroken kind of has it going? Well, it’s been like what, four games now? He’s been since the Washington game. I mean, um, you could tell he’s playing with a lot of confidence out there and and he’s on top of the crease. He looks big. Um, I think that’s that’s what you you need on the road. I mean, solid goending and and that’s what he gave us and especially on the p killing. After their first power play goal, what changed with your the tone of the game from your perspective? Didn’t change nothing for us. I mean, I thought that we stayed exactly the same. We didn’t lose our focus. I mean, we stayed we knew we had to play a good sound game here and and and and limit the turnovers, which we did a little too much in my opinion in that first period in the neutral zone because they were not. But I thought we break out really well every time they were trying to put pressure on us. I felt like our breakout was really good. So, and defensively, I thought we defend pretty well. Well, I mean, there’s no really defense when you turn over pucks like we did maybe in the first period in the neutral zone because they they feed off those those turnovers. They got so much talent, so much skills. So, but it was nice to see our guys the way we respond all night long. Anybody got anything to say about Goldman at this point? Yeah, I mean, he’s shooting with a lot of confidence. you could tell even in that second period I thought he scored on that, you know, when he dragged it and he he went on the I think on the blocker side. But yeah, he’s been playing really well and I was happy for Barzy to score that. It was a phenomenal play by by him in the Dzone and it’s funny because when you play well in your Done sometimes you get rewarded and and and it was a nice play by Joe Dwayne and nice saucer pass right and then he beat the woolly on the breakaway. Romano seemed particularly aggressive and a little just sounder tonight. That’s how he needs to play for us to have success. I mean, Romy is a physical uh defenseman and and right now, I mean, I feel like the last two games he’s playing with a lot of confidence and and I think that’s what he needs and sometimes just tweak things and put in with me. I mean, help him and and and I think Misy’s been doing a good job helping him and talking to him. Just what’s the challenge now kind of carrying this out west? Well, I mean, I I when I when you’re looking at the schedule, you always go, “Wow.” I mean, these are going to be like challenging games, but hey, we’re going to take it one by one and and we have a good test for us in Vegas, and we’ll we’ll have to be ready for

Hear from Mat Barzal, Ilya Sorokin, Bo Horvat, and Patrick Roy after tonight’s win in New Jersey.
