[Passan] The perfect move for 21 MLB teams that could go big this offseason (Blue Jays: sign Kyle Tucker)

I refuse to be optimistic until I hear he’s on a plane en route to Toronto
Sign Bo, get Tucker (if he’d care to play here) and dig in on some much needed pitching. An ace with term would be great. A lot of BP arms need to be looked at as well. It’s early.

Not sure I agree calling it the perfect move. I think signing Tucker and trading for pitching from the subsequent outfield depth would be ideal. But just signing Tucker because he’s the best free agent on the market isn’t the perfect move on its own.
Assuming the Jays were doing just one thing this offseason, I would think the ideal signing is a starting pitcher.
This is a couple major reporters indicating Tucker to Toronto now. It certainly does seem like the Jays plan to make a push there, but who knows if there’s mutual interest. This does feel like more early reporting than we’ve seen connecting the Jays to other major free agents though, for whatever that’s worth. Soto was always connected with the Mets, Ohtani the Dodgers. I haven’t seen the same type of consensus for Tucker. So far, the Jays have been the team mentioned.

The Jays primary deficiency this season was a pitching staff that gave up too much hard contact. Are we still going to have money to fix this after we sign an outfielder to play where, exactly?
I got a great idea why don’t we sign every player so that others team don’t have a chance to win the World Series
There is just way to much smoke with Kyle Tucker and the Jays rn… It’s getting me too excited.
Bellinger would be cheaper and doesn’t have a QO. Also Yankees fans assume he wants to come back.
this feels like a good offseason to treat CBT thresholds as a mere suggestion
I’m not doing this again, I’ll believe it when the press conference happens if we sign Tucker, not gonna sit here being lied to when we’re just being used for leverage.
Try to get Tucker, sign Bo, trade or sign for a couple starters and we should be able to go deep in October for a few years
I would think unless Rogers wants to go full Steve Cohen this winter that it’s either/or with Tucker and Bo, not both. Could probably make a reasonable argument for either one. If they got both then that would obviously be amazing. What I found interesting is that Atkins specifically mentioned trade when it came to starters during his press conference. That would certainly cost less in dollars. Like, trade for Sandy Alcantara instead of signing Cease probably saves you a good $10M in 2026, give or take. Would open some financial possibilities with the offense.
Soto was the prize and Jays ended up with Santander. Not keeping my hopes up
If the Jays sign Tucker first, before Bo makes a decision, the Jays will be less inclined to sign Bo for what he may be asking. The rest of the resources go into pitching. The fact Bo did not play for majority of the playoffs and shoring up second base with an additional contact bat may be the most practical move depending who signs where first.
Bo at second makes sense, and I would re-sign him, but something tells me market opportunity and who the Jays agree with whom first, dictate outcomes.
Let’s also get the “David Popkins” of base running here.
