I’m not entirely sure how contracts work for rookies during their first years work with their capped contracts, but could the A’s extend him to a long contract similar to the Royals with Bobby Witt Jr?
Of course, there is a big risk in signing anyone with a singular good rookie season but it would be a decent gamble for a franchise trying to literally rebuild itself like the A’s, and Kurt’s should be relatively easy to entice with a good but not outrageous contract.
