Post-Game | Ryan Huska – 07.11.25

Uh what was your assessment tonight? I wasn’t a fan of our game tonight. Um I to me we were slow because there was a lack of execution in a lot of different places with the puck, without the puck. Lots of lots of issues for us. Do you have an update on Zane Pack at all? He’s going to miss a little bit of time. I don’t know the extent of it yet, but we’ll we’ll find out some more tomorrow. Have you been concerned that he’s taken he’s taken some pretty big hits? Yes. You know, and is that a result of him just being a rookie in the league and not understanding at times when you need to brace for those? Yeah, I think it’s probably getting used to the speed a little bit, too. That guys close quite a bit quicker than what he’s used to. And then understanding how to put your body into a different position so you’re not taking such heavy hits. I think that’s that’s something he’s going to be learning along the way here. And unfortunately, he took a pretty good one tonight from a heavier player. Ryan McKenzie said in the third period it seemed like you guys really got away from your structure. Or is that kind of the same as how you would sum this one up? Yeah, he probably said you got away from structure cuz we gave up two oddman rush goals, right? And and the first one, there’s a a wall play or a pinch, whatever you want to call it, but we had two players go to the same guy, so that can’t happen. And the third one, we had a forward already feeling for a defenseman, and we had no presence in the middle of the ice. So those for sure are are are the issues that McKenzie would be talking about. And I know you guys don’t want to make excuses at all, but going down to five defenseman so early, just how difficult is that on the back end? Uh, they’d probably tell you they like it better. They get on the ice more often. So, the the lot of them would probably say it’s it’s more enjoyable because they’re out there more frequently, so they can I think they probably feel more into the game when they get into those situations like that. What do you think of Zer Farabby as a defenseman? A I thought he did a good job on that penalty kill. like we asked him to do a give us a few shifts there. Uh you haven’t seen that a lot over my time where you’re you’re down to three defenseman, but Joel did a good job there. Can I just ask you about Sure. McKenzie Winger just said he felt like half his team was basically not into the game tonight. This is not something we’ve heard about this team. You know, all last year we never heard it. Yeah. I’m assuming that’s concerning to you. McKenzie’s comment or or do I guess my first question. Do you agree with his comment? Um, well, I I would say as I started with that, we were a flat team tonight. So, you know, if McKenzie looks at it that way, I don’t know if I would necessarily, but I don’t think we played very well, period. Right. We had some guys that were engaged, they got into some fights. Um, that stuff shows guys that are there. Um, but I just I I thought the pace and the execution was off, which made us a slow team tonight. Is Matt Coronado kind of going through a similar stretch like Joel was and chances were coming but just hadn’t had a lot of play? Well, and well, this was a step up for Matt for me. Um, his game’s been just okay the last few. Um, I think he had 11 shots tonight, so he was around the puck a lot and and Knight made a couple good saves off of him. And as we talked about with Joel though, if you’re getting those opportunities, eventually Matt’s going to start scoring again, but he’s got to be around the puck and and hungrier like he was tonight. Was this the game where like Mackenzie Wager was a minus three, but I feel like he was the last man back on two oddman rushes and then obviously there was nothing he could do on the fourth goal. Was that was that plus minus a little tough on him? Um yeah, I mean sometimes that stats a good stat, sometimes it’s not. I mean he may have nothing to do with a certain play or a player might not have anything to do with the play and you’re on the ice for a goal against and it goes the other way at at times as well. Can I ask you about Conor Zar? Like I asked you about him this morning and it felt he was he was moved off that that top line. How do you feel about this game? Um, much like the rest of our team, you know, so we’re just looking for a little bit of a spark to move people around.

  1. Ok i am so so done with huska we need to do a fire coach now or our season is done tonight we’ll no one showed up nobody scored there were slow they didn’t care huska does not care I am done

  2. Flames core is mediocre and they have no young super star or game changer…. and they play a predictable game knowing that they have no rush offense or snipers that can score which makes them rely on greasy point shots with traffic in front that cant finish… Maybe they are just getting very unlucky with those 2nd chances but ya not looking good. Should just trade the core for draft picks and look for a chance in the future when the new arena is built to make some noise as other contenders age and fall off.

  3. I dont know what that reporter's talking about – Weegs was def at fault on the 1st one.
Doesnt matter though because he played a good enough game tonight. Half of his teammates were awful though, no fight in them, all scared as hell to pay the price to go the middle ice.. hoping they can score from the perimeter..
They should probably turf Sharky, he's dead weight – and i dont know what the hell is wrong with Zary.. he used to be my favorite Flame! but he just has no passion at all anymore… garbage skating and playing on the outside … like Hubie's first year.. ugh.
It's funny, because I actually miss Rooney on the 4th line.. last bit of last season we had a really good 4th with him on it… ah well.

Husk is right though.. the team was slow overall.. and i thought last game they were pretty terrible for the last half of that game, but at least they boxed-out in the D zone and didnt have bad pinches like they did tonight… tonight they were terrible for the last half again though..
It's like 2023-24 flames all over again: pinching at the wrong times and creating odd man rushes.. turning over at the blues.. they stop doing that and they still have a chance at winning, even if they're slow… but they did that in almost all of their 10 losses…

  4. нормальная скорость была у наших игроков,просто к третьему периоду они устали играя в пять защитников…

  5. This team as it’s constructed has never been and will never be a playoff contender, this is a bottom team and management needs to wake the fuck up and smell the Rebuild Roses! Go get Mackenna!
