This is the 4th time this season he’s been evaluated for a concussion. Obviously with Daboll gone, his playstyle may change a little (we even saw a slide or two on Sunday!), but he was taking some big hits even before he went out of the game against the Bears. None of us want a Tua situation. Dart probably feels a lot of pressure to win games and being the only playmaker on the offense, but the QB designed runs where he’s in danger makes every fan cringe. Do we think that with Kafka in as HC there’ll be less putting Dart in danger? Or is it Dart’s health going to be jeopardized in order to save jobs?

  1. 1st one in preseason I think was actually kinda bad. It’s one of the reasons he didn’t start Week 1 – Week 3. (Also cuz AT wasn’t back yet).

The other 2 are ‘ring his bell’ type of hits and didn’t look like complete knockouts.

This 4th one was a SERIOUS knockout blow where he was limp and grabbing his head like a Boxer… and they put him back in!

That’s why Daboll was finally fired.

  2. He should sit the rest of the season. Do NOT mess with his brain. Let him and Skat come back at 100% next year.

  3. Yeah I mean, I get the rough and tough style is his thing – but I think he can be just as good without putting himself at risk the way he does. Availability is one of the most important things from a QB, and if he keeps getting his head knocked off longevity isn’t going to be something he’s known for. If he’s as good as we think he might be for this franchise, he needs to make sure he can stay on the field. Coaches need to preach that because try as he might, he’s got that dawg in him so he’s probably not going to be able to keep that in check on his own. Daboll didn’t seem to give a shit one way or the other.

Winning is great and all, but not if your QB gets his eggs scrambled every game.

  4. Of course – any injuries are worrisome. Brain injuries are up there with knee/leg injuries as some of the worst imo, they can derail a promising career quickly…

  5. Would say it’s the 3rd realistic time he’s been evaluated. The Chargers “concussion” is complete nonsense and he really had no reason to be checked on that play. Minimal head contact on the play, he just had some weird body language

  6. Yea literally when he went down with it and came out of the game I didn’t even have much of a reaction bc I just felt like it was only a matter of time before he got one

  7. It needs to be made perfectly clear that this is his only concussion on the season. And our new coach will definitely train him how to protect his self much more than Daboll did.

    We will be fine.

The others were just tests. Just because you test for concussion doesn’t mean you have one.

  8. Yes 100%. Would be the most NYG thing ever to get a franchise QB and then immediately be cooked w head injuries.

It’s going to be a really tough balancing act with him, needs to make some smarter decisions while also retaining the aggression and fire that makes him successful.

NEED to get the right staff in place to help him mature in this regard.

  9. 🤚 right here, this guy is.

If he can’t last playing how he’s playing, then he needs to prove that he can still be a franchise QB playing as more of a pocket passer role. When he can do that and remain concussion-free, I’ll be less worried

  10. We should be. With Kafka as the OC Jones and now Dart have both averaged 6-8 rushes per game. That’s a ton of extra hits over the course of a season. If Dart can’t be trusted to safely give himself up on designed runs, then quite frankly we shouldn’t have them in the offense. Protect him from himself.

  11. Some of it’s on him tho right? Because if the defenders that violent in the nfl wandale should have died by now

  12. one would hope Kafka will be more cautious but considering he’s been the OC throughout this I’m not holding my breath

  13. I work in a healthcare setting where we occasionally have patients looking to rehab post concussion. It’s really scary to see what these head injuries can potentially do to people. One girl had to leave her job, move back in with her parents, and was practically bed bound for the better part of a year and half. Her job was very much computer oriented and she couldnt look at a laptop screen for more than a few minutes at a time without getting blinding headaches. The amount of everyday things that were suddenly debilitating was wild to see. Glad to report after a long journey she was able to get her life back on track, but it was a long tough journey to reach anything close to normal again. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer girl either.

You really cant discredit the possibility that the next one could potentially leave him with serious long term consequences.

  14. Yes. I think Daboll getting fired was precisely because of him putting Dart in harm’s way the entire time.

  15. He’s in a lose-lose situation. He is the offense. He needs to take risks and fight for every yard to win because the team isn’t helping. If he plays, he’s going to be at a higher risk for injury as a result.

It’s the same with any team who has only one star. They get a massive workload and then get pounded into a pulp.

  16. I’m sorry, but that is mostly on him. He needs to slide and stop putting his head down. He’s not getting rocked in the pocket 10 times a game, the concussions are happening when he’s running the ball.

  17. Daboll didn’t give a shit about protecting this kid. He put him in dangerous plays to protect his job.

  18. I honestly kind of hate the QB designed runs. We were doing them frequently enough that they weren’t a surprise and you could almost kind of predict that they were coming.

Doing them every once in a while is fine, especially in clutch situations when they can make the difference in a game.

But ultimately, Jaxson Dart’s career is going to be defined by his Arm and his Head. Not his legs. They are a great tool to have and you would much rather than a mobile QB than a non-mobile one, but they can’t be the star of his feature set.

At this point, at 2-8… there really isn’t a point in continuing to force him into dangerous situations. He needs to work on reading the field and making passes. He’s improved so much in that regard this year but there is more to learn. The running is instinctual and he’s not going to lose it for the future if he puts on the backburner the rest of the year.

  19. Rest him the rest of the year.

    1. Giants have a franchise QB. It’s obvious. We don’t need to see more. No need to risk him when the Giants are 2-8.

    2. Play Winston for entertainment value.

  20. I think this is the first concussion, The other times was cleared and went back in the game.

  21. If he plays, coaches really need to reign him in. Super conservative,  throwing the ball away more and limit his runs.

  22. Yes. He needs to learn to protect himself. I love that he plays with passion and plays hard to try and get the W every week but at a certain point he needs to know that the NFL ain’t a race, it’s a marathon. He can’t be the fire that burns out in 1 season. He’s got a whole career he’s got to focus on.

Tough to do this year cause all our weapons are injured and our OL is still a trash bag with some duct tape slapped over some holes. But he needs to learn when to run out of bounds/slide so he doesn’t end up like another RG3

  23. Y’all over exaggerating. People keep saying he’s been evaluated 4 times. When it’s really two. Teach the kid to slide and let him ball.

Hit me with the down votes

  24. If he clears protocol he’ll play, being evaluated for a concussion is not having a concussion. He needs to relax on the hits he takes but y’all are too dramatic

  25. It’s starting to become a mild concern. Including preseason, he’s been checked for a concussion 4 times in 10 games. The coaching staff needs to start limiting the designed runs, and Dart needs to do a better job of not taking hits. It’s a fixable problem, but Dart getting his head bounced off the turf every other week probably isn’t sustainable.

  26. I think the better question is who isn’t worried about his concussions. I’m cautiously optimistic that Kafka won’t rush him back but yeah. Now I got worry.

  27. Yes, very worried. Even if he woke up yesterday with no symptoms at all, he should sit for 3 weeks. Anything else and they’re playing with his life. If he has even the mildest residual symptoms today (headache, fatigue), he should sit out the rest of the season.

  28. IR him, 4 weeks should be enough time to recover. No point in putting him back out there too soon.

  29. Dart was clearly a pass/run QB in college averaging 10 rushes per game. While he may have been big enough to run in college, his stature (6’2”, 215lbs) is too small to run in today’s NFL without concussion risk (unless your name is Wiley-Coyote or Mahomes.). If the Giants make him more of a pocket passer, they may compromise his play-making abilities.

  30. I’d like the designed runs reduced to a 1/3 or a 1/4 of what’s been happening. And he’s got to learn the hard way, as most do, and Sunday was the first necessary hard lesson. He should talk to Eli. I brought my son to see Eli’s first rookie year preseason game, and he played well then, but late in his appearance he got railed (high and low). I think it was against the Eagles IIRC. It may have been the hardest hit he ever took. He was always so much smarter than he seemed, and avoiding unnecessary hits and mitigating necessary hits was no exception, and not coincidentally led to his endurance. He certainly knew when to stand up (2011 NFC Championship) but he turned away from hits and got rid of the ball and never worried about the stats or comments. Sure, a tough guy gets noticed but at that position the costs compound and it takes productive years off your career.

  31. I am. This guy has to learn how to slide/go out of bounds/give up sometimes. I love the fact that he’s tough, but most times an extra yard isn’t worth getting blown up.

  32. Being evaluated for a concussion and actually having one are 2 different things with the cautious protocols they use now.

  33. Im worried about the Giant’s ability to develop and retain franchise players like Dart.
