RED WINGS & OILERS TRADE COMING SOON? HUGE EDMONTON RUMOURS & UPDATES (Cossa, Fleury, Saros)
Well, well, well. Let’s take ourselves a trip back over to Speculation Station, baby, because today we are diving into the latest on the Edmonton Oilers and what some folks are saying about their goalending situation. Let’s head over onto Spectre’s Hockey from earlier this morning. Because if you know Spectre’s hockey and the platform that L. Richardson has over here. He takes a lot of the latest trade rumors, articles, radio hits, and everything else that you could look for in the hockey world, and every day he compiles it together. So, it’s all available for us in a quick and easy to digest form. So, big shout out over to Specters Hockey and L. Richardson. I’ll leave a link in the description to this article over here. But of course, you know why we’re here, right? We’re talking about the Oilers and we’re talking about goalending. For all the conversations that we can have about Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard, there is always going to be that conversation of getting services from somebody else. So, let’s dive into what this article goes out there and says. The question is, will the Edmonton Oilers shop for a goalender? On the athletic, Alan Mitchell examined what a trade to shake up the struggling Oilers might look like. He speculated it could take moving one or more of Matthew Seavoi, their 2027 first, and a veteran such as Adam Henrik or Breck Koulak to bring in a goalender who might be an upgrade over current starter Steuart Skinner. Mitchell suggested you see Sorrowos of the Nashville Predators if the latter would agree to take on Henrik and Skinner and retain part of Sorrowos’s $7.74 million AAV. A more prudent move would be replacing struggling backup goalie Calvin Pickard, perhaps by targeting Sebastian Kosa of the Detroit Red Wings. Okay, let’s get that Detroit conversation going, too. Then at the bottom here, it says a wild card would be Mark Andre Flurry. He retired at the end of last season, but it might be prudent to monitor his situation in case he changes his mind by midseason. Okay. Uh yeah, I know we got the Pens jersey out there. That’s specifically why I put it out because, you know, it’s a beautiful sweater. But also, Mark Andre Flurry, very, very interesting. Also, this ain’t a Flurry jersey. This is actually a Kessle jersey, so it’s one of my favorites for sure. Spectre’s hockey then continues. Mark Spectre believes the clock is ticking for the Oilers to resolve their goalending woes. He believes Steuart Skinner’s time as the unchallenged starting goalie is over, citing the 26-year-old’s ongoing inconsistency. Spectre called on GM Stan Bowman to find an upgrade. He acknowledged the difficulty Bowman would face. Sorrowos has seven years left on his contract with the Predators. The Blues might not wish to part with goalender Jordan Bennington, whose stats are worse than Skinners. He also noted that Bowman missed the opportunity to land Scott Wedgewood and John Gibson during the summer, though the latter may not have wanted to come to Canada anyway. Uh, yeah, I don’t know. John Gibson was linked to Edmonton for so long and nothing ended up happening. David Staples cited Oilers insider Bob Stoer defending Skinner’s record and questioning if there was much of a goalie market. Spectre’s note says that there isn’t much of a goalie market right now, which is why the Oilers have not done a trade to replace these guys. But ultimately, when you just kind of look at the tail of the tape, it’s very obvious to see why this is being discussed. We already made a video commentary earlier yesterday talking about the Oilers and just how bad everything has gotten in regards to their goalending stability. Yes, it’s true. They won yesterday in a miraculous comeback victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets. By the way, I did end up putting Nent Hopkins on my IR and I picked up Jack Rosik. Thank you so much for the goal and assist, Roz. But if you take a look at Stu Skinner and you try to analyze what it is he’s been doing this season, 27 years old, 2.6 million bucks a year till the end of this season, and he’s at an 863 safe percentage. I mean, you just look at the numbers here. 913 in 2022, 914 in 2023, 9:05 in 2024, Stanley Cup finals appearance with a 901, 896 in 2025, 889 save percentage in the playoffs whilst making the finals again. And now he’s gotten even worse with an 883. I don’t want to jinx anything, but if we go over to the National Hockey League and we scroll all the way down to save percentage, let’s take a look at the absolute lowest guys. Okay, you’ve got Bennington whose stats are indeed worse than Stu Skinners. You’ve got Omar, you’ve got Veha, and then you have Stu Skinner. Where is Cal Picker? Is he on here? Ah, yes, he’s on here. If you take a look at guys under 10 games played, his 836 save percentage is also very, very bad. So, the Oilers, I’m sorry, you know, I don’t want to be blunt about it unless, you know, you kind of expected. We’ve kind of been blunt throughout the past few years to be honest. Skinner is not yet. Absolutely not. And so when you talk about some of the guys that are being listed as potential trade targets and replacements, Jussi Soros is always going to be labeled as one of the better underdog stories in NHL history. 30-year-old guy, short goalender, 510, but he’s athletic as hell, and he’s been doing some pretty good work the past few years in Nashville. Unfortunately though, he had an 896 save percentage in 58 games last year and right now he’s at an 892 with the Predators. Although you can give him the benefit of the doubt, hey, this guy plays for Nashville. It’s not like he’s going to go out there and tear down worlds with that team in front of him. And when the Predators were a lot better, you did see better numbers out of UC Soros. Maybe not in the playoffs specifically, though. I mean, they made the playoffs in 2024. He had a 900 safe percentage. He got outdooled and outwitted by one current Pittsburgh Penguin Artur Sheilov. So of course I’m very happy to acknowledge that and the Vancouver Conucks successes of yester year. Sorrowos though his contract is expensive 7.74 million till the end of 2033. It was a pretty big deal when he got the contract. It was like okay is he actually going to sign? Is there going to be an extension? He ended up getting it and now he’s going to be paid till next decade. Take a look at some of the other conversations that were brought up here as well, though. Sebastian Kosa out of the Grand Rapids Griffins, whom, if I’m not mistaken, is actually hurt right now, I think. I’m not sure. We’ll have to verify that with some further research. But Sebastian Kosa, young guy, 22 years old, a big dude, 66209, a lot bigger than UC Saros, former first round pick by the Detroit Red Wings back in 2021, and a guy who was able to work himself up from the depths of the ECHL. It was always really interesting to follow Sebastian Kosa and his profile because this guy was a total stud when he was draft eligible in 2021. 941 save percentage and a57 goals against on a stacked Edmonton Oil Kings squad. Obviously, because he was on the Oil Kings, that’s why you can make an immediate link between the Oil Kings and the Oilers. Lots of oil going on in Edmonton, as if we didn’t already know that. But obviously Sebastian Kosa had better days in the dub. He then found himself in the ECHL after struggling in the AHL and then worked his way back up to Grand Rapids the past 2 years. He had a 911 save percentage in 41 games with Grand Rapids in 24-25 and an 857 in the one NHL game he played, which he actually won, which is very good. in this season. He’s down there at a 939 safe percentage and a 175 goals against in four games with the Griffins. Say what you want about Trey Austinine and how good that guy has been developing in the NCAA, but Sebastian Kosa still is a very legit NHL goalending prospect. And at 22 years old, you can debate that if you were to force him into the league right now, he’d be fine. He would be able to tread water. You couldn’t really get any worse than Cal Pickard, right? was literally last in NHL save percentage. Sebastian Kosa might demand a pretty high price though. So if the Red Wings are able to get a Matthew Seavoy or something, I would actually be pretty intrigued about that. Just saying. And then finally, the last name that was mentioned here is none other than Mark Andre Flurry, who of course is retired, so we’re not going to go out there and immediately assume that he is an option for Edmonton. But there are reports suggesting that the Oilers probably could keep it in the back of their minds if Flurry decides to change his mind at some point. Last year he had himself an 899 save percentage, which is not amazing, but hey, it’s fine. He has been in the 900 territory the past few years. Of course, his Vzna winning season with the Vegas Golden Knights all those seasons ago stands out. He was so good in Vegas after winning multiple Stanley Cups with Pittsburgh. So, Mark Andre Flurry absolutely had one of the best careers possible. Is he an option for Edmonton? I don’t know. You can let me know your thoughts in the comments section below. If we trade Cossa away this season, I will eat my boots.
Its cool seeing you Lego. My first time. Just by your voice i thought you were a scrawny blond headed kid with thick glasses. Lol anyways. Love your stuff. Listen to you all the time especially when it comes to the Red Wings. Keep up the great work.
Cossa…….. hmmm🤔
McDavid to Detroit
I really like the visual of seeing you on screen. You have a great voice but it'd be great to see you break out on screen too.
Bob Stauffer's opinion matters very little on this matter. He is on payroll of the Oilers and extremely biased to a fault for Skinner. No idea when is Stauff gonna wake up that we may lose McDavid over Alberta's blind support for Skinner. And two cups meanwhile as well!
Holy crap you're on camera. Good for you. I've been listening to the channel for a year and wondered who you were. Good luck.
A pity Albertans have a heightened fake sense of political correctness – despite their unconditional support for the orange mussolini – and rejected entirely the idea of bringing in Carter Hart, a character way less shady than the leader down-south. Watch Carter Hart creating a hell of a run with VGK, most probably against the Oilers in the Conf-Final. That was one big missed shot by Bowman, himself not entirely clean on the front they criticize Carter Hart with. Also the argument that Binnington or Saros have stats that are worse or comparable with Skinner, don't hold water. Both are way above Skinner's horrible Hockey-IQ, mechanics, lateral moves, awareness of puck location and positioning in the net, horrendous puck-handling, etc. Skinner is not a cup-goalie, nor a Canada goalie, and never will be.
We're not trading Cossa
What the heck is Cossa gonna do for the Oilers this year???? He's not even ready to play in the NHL. Oilers had plenty of years to upgrade their goaltending. They seem to think McDavid and Draisytl will overcome whatever they put between the pipes. They also f'ed up big time when Jesper Wallsdelt fell to them in the draft and Holland passed on him. I remember my jaw dropped when my former GM bonehead Kenny did not take him. They would have been set in goal with the next king Henrik for the next decade. They also should have been in heavy on Askarov and Spencer Knight as far as Im concerned. Too little too late.
cossa lol
cossa is a bum who's played one nhl game 😂
Well Cossa has to start showing he’s ready because Trey and postava are coming
Thanks for doing a vlog. I appreciate your coverage and love following your informational perspective on the Canucks, Oil and others. 👍👍
