Not even remotely close.
While Tre is partly to blame, this is a player issue. On paper we have a solid, deep, big team. We have the same d core as last year who were praised for how good they were.
The players on the ice actually need to figure it out.
This sub is overreacting way to much. The fact is Dubas traded every high pick we had and now we are at the point where we need that young talent filling the gaps to our roster. Instead we are old and slow. Tre last season knew he had to go all in cause the org still wanted to sign Mitch.
Its unfortunate he emptied the cupboard even more but at least our picks are top 5 protected.
Dubas was a bad GM, but the idea that they had to replace him with the first guy Shanahan thought of without going through a serious hiring process totally ruined the team
Let’s build an old and slow defense full of guys who can’t move the puck. Let’s build a bottom 6 and forward group that’s more gritty and defensive. He built this roster to compete in a different era of the NHL an era that has long passed.
All you guys begged for exactly what he’s delivered and now youre here crying. You wanted to get bigger and tougher, he did that. Wanted marner gone, hes gone.
Did no one notice how he left Calgary? It wasn’t exactly the most promising look.

How many games you actually expecting a team like that to win? Maybe .500 at best right? That’s what this team is.
Burke’s teams were never boring. This bland vanilla corporate team started under Shanahan and Dubas. These issues run deep and it isn’t any one person’s fault.
I’m sure they don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water, but the baby is stillborn. Just start over because it is all rotten.
I dunno Burke at least accidently signed a good contract or two.

At least Burke had vision. Tre is an empty suit so far. Not sure what he wants, not sure why he values, other than tall and long defensemen.

Tre is the last gift Shanahan gave Maple Leafs fans.
This literally goes back to Shanahan. ITS HIS FAULT:
– Hires the PSYCHO coach Mike babcock (WHOM HE KNOWS IS CRAZY CAUSE HE PLAYED UNDER HIM) to mentally fuck our young rookies of Marner, Mathews, Nylander (which i ultimately blame for our inability to keep marner, and win any game 7)
– Picks Kyle dubas to lead the way after Lamoriello.
– Dubas beats out Lamoriello for JT and creates the core 4.
– Dubas wants more money , or control, or some shit. It triggers Shanahan.
– Fires Dubas (2023), and hires Brad treliving(2023) who makes shitty decision after shitty decision.
– Then Shanahan gets fired a year later (24/25 SZN).
The best pieces and picks we had were from the Dubas Era and they’ve been chopped and traded by this brain dead GM.
I’m impressed that anyone cares at all about this team anymore. I’ve become so apathetic. Haven’t watched a game yet this year and I don’t even check the score the next day.
Like I’ve said before, I just don’t understand how Treliving can build a D core consisting of Tanev, Hanifin, Andersson, and Weegar… only to assemble whatever the fuck this is minus Rielly and McCabe. Hell, Timmins was remotely decent at moving the puck and Treliving gave him back to Dubas for fucking free, and the latter flipped him for Connor Clifton in the summer.
i know people hate dubas. im not one of them but I understand people wanting change. but that change being to tre was always bad to me. my favourite stat before the switch was they both won the same amount of playoff rounds in the last 8 years. at best, it was a sideways move.

Brian Burke had a ton of success everywhere else we went. Brad drafted well in Calgary, but had like 2 good seasons in a decade and then got a lot of good PR for turning Tkachuk and Gaudreau into Kadri and Huberdeau, and in hindsight that didn’t work out at all.
They both look red to me!
Dubas – “We want puck movers!”
Treliving – “We need more snot!”
I mean this politely. Anyone that supported his hiring – when it was obvious he was a bad GM in Calgary, and would be just as bad here – should be banned from this sub

Half glass full if this team can claw into the playoffs can they be more equipped for heavy postseason hockey and go on an LA Kings 2012 run? Probably not. But maybe.
Time to face the reality that this team isn’t going to win a cup. We had the best set of skilled players to ever play together in this lifetime and management blew it by refusing to see the glaring issues with this team years ago. The window is almost closed, if not fully closed. The leafs are the 3rd oldest team in the league now.
I’m not a Leafs fan, but I live in Toronto. I don’t get how they watched the guy repeatedly fail in Calgary and thought, “yeah, we want some of that here”
