CURSE BROKEN! Stars Rally To Beat Senators In Overtime! | DLLS STARS POSTGAME

Get ready, boys. There it is. Oh, we’re live. Hi. How about that? You haven’t seen that one every day. Dallas Stars just won a game at Canadian Tire Center. Re Sam. And that hasn’t happened since March of 2016. That’s right. Sam, Yep. in 2016 was what do you mean? What do you mean what? That was that was the year Lindy Ruffion 2016. I was in college. He was a collegate student athlete. Yep. Let’s start our show post game right now before we do this again. [Music] Super [Music] heat. [Music] This is the DLLS Stars postgame show after a successful outing, although a weird one up in Ottawa. We’ll get you through all of that one. Craig Lewig, Sam Nestler, I’m Owen Newkerk. Hello. Ryan VA is our producer. And before we even get into the faceoff collection, actually, let’s do it quickly. It’ll make Ryan’s life easier. Shirts. There they are. Buy them. They’re great. This is the DLS Faceoff Collection. Really good-looking hockey shirts. The newest of our merchandise at all dls.com. Why am I saying something else? Why? Because we have a massive super chat that just puts the other shows to shame. I love Missy 1985 with a 20. That’s a rope hint times 10 and a Craig Lew. Has anyone ever worn 240 for the source? It’s a It’s 10 rope hints. Okay. Yeah, that’s a lot of fins. Did we actually win in Ottawa for the first time since March 6th, 2016? Yes, we did. Owen told me that back when I was a hockey noob that hadn’t been to a single NHL game. Back when Jamie Ben was still a clean shaven pup. Back when Wyatt Johnson was a 12-year-old pre-teen. Back when Pizza Sam was still in college. Yep. Crazy. Well done. Yes, all of that stuff is true. And the Stars have won a hockey game in Ottawa for the first time in nine years. And they almost made it to 10. Who said you have to play 60 minutes? Not the Dallas. Sometimes just 20 will do. See? Yeah. Some coach said that. I don’t know who it was. Maybe it was like all 32 of them. But they’re wrong. You only got to play about 40 40ish. Is indeed. I don’t even think 40 ls. No, like one period maybe 20 30 years. No, no, no, no, no. Cuz Ranson and Breakaway got it going. So, let’s say uh 20. Sorry I brought it up. No, it’s probably about 23 and a half minutes. Not even I was going to say 30 and then I looked he scored at 1622. So, let’s say they generally played about 25 minutes of a 60-minute hockey game. Well, that’s about it. How about that? Uh, thank you Jake for waking up after the Yeah. fifth minute of the hockey game. You We were ready to pull him, weren’t we? Oh, yeah. I I was I said one more just yank them. Doesn’t you know just wake the team up. Uh, but he got it together. But I was a little little sketchy there in the beginning. Just like just like your fuzzy camera. Why are we doing this? Are we No, no, no. Look at the screen. We’re fine. You’re not You’re not properly zoomed in. No, your your your focus was off. Look at this camera. Was I off? I want to say as the arms blurry again. Okay. You should probably keep it that way. As we were talking about that in the first period, I we realized that uh you know, through 17 games now, Glenn Golson has not yet pulled Jake. Not saying that it would have necessarily been all his fault. I I didn’t like the first goal, and we’ll get into it, but the team was just wretched to start this one. They looked like they were stuck in I don’t even want to say reverse. They were like in like between first and second gear. Yeah. They they just like they were trudging through mud. They look slow. Yeah. But they stuck with it. They survived. And we’re going to talk about it because there’s a stretch of time where if Jake doesn’t do what he does, this game’s out of out of reach before they get the halfway point of the hockey game. Well, if he didn’t do what he did, they wouldn’t have been chasing the game either. Well, I mean, maybe on the first one and the second one, it was not a good goal. Let’s just It was not a good goal. All of a sudden, the Stars have snapped an eightgame winless streak in Ottawa. They were 06 and two in their last eight trips to Canadian Tire Center. Now, they’ve got a win. Sam is utterly confused. Always. Look at Look at That’s why Yeah, I know. That’s why I said it. I also was loving it. Sam was dialed in to our show. Yes. While he edits his show, his story. Tell us why so confused. I just don’t understand, and Luds didn’t have an answer for me, so I’m not alone on this, but I just don’t understand why this team is this way. And I love that they have the fight in them to rally. That’s a great trait to have, and we’ve seen it. It doesn’t just happen in these games, random Tuesdays in the regular season. They have dug deep and found a way to do this in the playoffs and very important games. So, it’s a it’s a great trait to have, but I don’t think you want to go to that well so many times. And I don’t think we can say this is just a team dealing with injuries anymore. I don’t think Jamie Ben and Matthew Shane make that first period look any better than it did there. So to me, I just don’t understand why they need to not only get down in games, but kicked to the ground, pushed around a little bit, and then finally they get one little spark, whether it’s a goal, uh, a successful power play, a big save, a fight, whatever it might be, and all of a sudden they go from such a bad outskated dominated team to flipping it completely. They don’t just come back and like compete in the game. They come back and look like the better team by a long shot. And it’s just just I’m baffled. May maybe when maybe when you have guys that are I mean they’re great players and and look at again tonight and take take the first couple of minutes away from Jake. He was fantastic after that. Yeah. Robo to me was good tonight, you know, and but then he finally gets that goal. Then Ranton was just Ratin and then it was hints. it’s your it’s your top guys and uh that’s what they’re leaning on. So maybe they’re just that good that they can have off moments in games or off periods and the goalender can do his job for a little bit and then when he does his job you can get a superstar to step up and Robo hasn’t done much in how many games did you say it was? It had been nine games without a goal. You know he had on that particular power play goal he had five shot attempts. So, you know, again, he wanted it and he got it. Good for him. Get that. Hopefully now you get that little gorilla. I guess it’s not a little monkey. Get that gorilla off your back and you can swore from here. And maybe we’ll start to see them pile up like we saw last year when he got past that and really started flying along. Hey, T. Farmer. Tim has joined the supporters club just now. He also has a super chat. We’ll get to that during our super chat segment. You’ve got to do the I love Misti level of super chats to just stop down the show. Yeah. At the beginning. Yeah. It’s I mean I love Misti even that. But we appreciate it. I love Misty’s got the record too, right? In the show last year. Wasn’t it something? Oh yeah. 500 something. Wasn’t it like a Zuboff number 56? So whatever. Love it. Uh by the way, I saw Tim T. Farmer. He came by at the Main Street Barber pop-up. Oh yeah. Thursday night when we were out there. Got a chance to chat with him for a minute. Always nice to catch up with one of the OG dieards. He uh was one of the guys you guys had lunch with way back. You and John at Dixie. Yeah, I recall he was about September. He’s about Sam’s height. Yeah, I think he might be a little taller. He made fun of me for being short, so he I think he’s taller than me. Yep. All right. Um, aside from being completely confounded by this team, aside from being thoroughly disgusted by their starts, they have points in 10 of their last 11 games. And what’s really crazy is, Luds, you have been watching more hockey than most cuz you can’t get enough. And the Colorado Avalanche are obliterating their opponents right now. Stars are with a game more one more game played only two points back. Both teams have won three in a row. The ABS still haven’t lost a regulation at home. They only have one regulation loss in the entire season. They’re 10-1 and five. Dallas is 104 and three. They’re hanging around. I would make this joke. Sam hasn’t seen the movie Rounders. He’s trying to talk about the Stars middle of the game hanging around like Teddy KGB and he has no idea what I’m talking about. buds. They’re hanging around. You know what that means, Sam? No. Uh yeah, they they are. And again, they’re hanging around and they’re they’re not playing complete games. And we’re, you know, we we go, “Oh, man. Oh, they found a way to win another game. Oh, they found a way to win a point.” So, but when you mentioned Colorado, Colorado is steamrolling teams, right? I mean, they’re And tonight there’s a big game. I mean that we saw Anaheim come in here and I wouldn’t say they steamrolled Dallas, but I mean that’s a that’s a fasting. They outscored Dallas. They’re an exciting uh so that game is going on probably right about now. Uh but yeah, Colorado Dallas, it just seems like they’re destined to meet again at some point in the playoffs. The puck has dropped about five minutes ago. Well, five game minutes ago. And you’d never believe it, Les, but the Avalanche have the lead. I was going to say, is it 1-1 or one nothing? One- nothing. Arturi Lechin with his seventh. Listen to these numbers. From who? Mar and McKinnon. Yeah. McKinnon’s 16th assist. Mar’s 17th. I’m not kidding you. They scored 28 seconds into the game at home. I think I think Nathan McKinnon is going to make a statement this year and he’s going to end up with about 120ome points. I picked him to win the heart because he’s so important to that team. I know this is the Stars postgame show, Stars against the Senators, but I think we can spare a moment for Nate McKinnon being an absolute wizard out there and he’s if he doesn’t get serious heart trophy by the end of this year, I the voters are crazy. By the way, the other end of the spectrum, you got two teams that can’t stop scoring versus the two teams at the bottom of the Pac of the Western Conference. We got the Flames and Blues in a nailbiter 3 to2. Neither one of those teams wants to win a hockey game. Well, St. Louis does. I don’t know if Calgary does, but St. Louis St. Louis desperately trying to win one. Yeah, Monty would love to get going. And apparently they had a nice loose day uh yesterday. So, Monty changed it up a little bit and they had a little after crack of the whip on Sunday. I have a totally random fact if you guys good time. Two of them actually. So, didn’t even know you were here. Victory Plus. I didn’t watch the whole thing here. He hasn’t been listening for at least 5 minutes now. He’s been watching videos. victory plus a quote from Roe Hans on the postgame show. I think some of the guys changed their rout routine this morning, so that worked. And to go one step further, Golitin, this is from Robert Tiffen. I just told Essa Lindell this morning, I said, “Whatever you’ve done in the past, do the opposite. Do the opposite.” Yeah. Whatever routines you’ve done in Ottawa in the past for your Right. They’re trying to break the curse. Do something different. Did they do it pregame or did they do it after the second? I mean, they didn’t all go to Whole Foods or is there a Whole Foods in Ottawa? I don’t think so. You went to Whole Foods. I did go first time today. How was the salmon? Uh the salmon was good. It was all good. I don’t know what else I had, but it was good. You had a bunch of food. You came with a whole many people. Too busy. Not for me. Let’s look at the game stats real quick before we get into our breakdown because we have a new graphic. And Ryan has got it all ready for us. And it looks supposedly very fancy. There it is. Look at it coming in like that. How about that? That’s pretty. How did this team outshoot the Ottawa Centers with how bad they started this one? I mean, the fact that they finished with a 34 to 29 edge in shots is ridiculous. And LSDs, if I had told you at about the 10-minute mark of the first period when the Stars were down two to nothing that Jake was going to finish with a 93%age. That’s crazy. No way, right? No. No. It’s good to see though. I like I said that you know these games though they’re going to happen you know throughout the season and they’re going to happen in the playoffs and so you you kind of you look back on these kind of games they’re going to look back on a game that happens in game 33 and say you know they might be on the road and they’re going to say remember that game in Ottawa and we didn’t start well and you know obviously they’re going to talk about this in their next game we got to have a better start. You’re going to hear Gully say we wish we had a better start and we’ve heard that a few times this year. Um, but again, the good news is is they keep on finding a way to plug a point in here and there and couple points here and there. Hey, Ryan, can you pull up uh Kayla’s chat from just a minute ago because it says, “I finally signed up to be a diehard, but it made me buy another shirt in order to get the quote unquote free shirt, plus I had to pay for shipping and handling, so spent a whole bunch more than I intended.” First of all, Kayla, thank you very much. You’ve been in the chat for you’ve been watching our show live a ton. Love that you’re now officially a die hard. Uh maybe even the Wyatt shirt. Does that mean she got one of the new collection shirts or no? Well, we’ll have to ask. She got two shirts in the chat. Which shirts did you pick? Let us know. But thank you for signing up to be That means we need to help her get what shirt you had to buy another shirt to get a free shirt, right? That is beyond our pay grade. Are you guys supposed to know how this works? We can we can certainly ask the uh you know my job all city support on that one. So Kayla, let us know which shirts you picked out and we will break this game down next here on the DLS Stars Postgame show. Oh boy. Me right. Yep. Kim would like me to people please stop sending in the super chats because someone’s got to go home and get a possum out of their house. She’s currently if I had a nickel for every She should stop putting a collar on it. She’s named it. Yeah. Well, this is the third one, though. Luds, what’s it like to have pet pawsums? Well, I don’t know. You got to ask my three-legged dog because apparently he’s got a possum. The plural of possum. It wouldn’t be possum. Not like moose. Possum plural. It’s not like moose. There’s nine possum. See? Is it? Yeah. Look it up, Sam. You Somebody No, no, that don’t super chat it. All right, let’s break this one down. And welcome Starlight Performance Horses to our supporters club as well. What’s that? Possums with an S according to AI. Thank you, Luds. There’s an S on possum. You can also use I don’t know how to spell. You can also use um I I like the opsum spelling myself. So, it’s Osums. Osum Possums. No S. It’s either possums. I said no. Or opasum. It’s not possum. But but if there’s opsums, would it be oposums or just psums? says um or possums. So they’re singular and plural. No. Well, there must be cuz it’s either singular possum, plural possums, or plural oasum is how is how I read it there. So there is single and plural. Yes, that’s all I said. They’re singular. Osum is only I don’t know, man. Get on with saying anything so that you can have that clean whenever you like. I’m going to come as an old possum next year for Christmas. What was What was your friends guy? Is it wasn’t it the Hanukkah armadillo? Wait till we get holiday armadillo. The holiday arm. Yeah. All right. Okay. Did you see the first goal? Anybody? I know Jake didn’t. 49 seconds into the game. First chance. Left circle. I just wrote down Luds. Yesesh. I wrote something else down, but you want to share it with us. I don’t want to get booted already. Do we even have Do we have a video on that thing? I don’t know why. No, I said there’s no point. Okay. So, if you haven’t seen it, folks, just blink. Yeah, blink. It’s a good shot, but it should never go away. I was I mean, I don’t know if he’s a 50 goal scorer, but but you know, ultimately what happened is I hate to do this because Robo was good. Robo actually got the puck knocked off his stick when he came into the offensive zone. got run over. Puck turns over. Uh goes to an area where it probably shouldn’t shouldn’t go in on Jake and but again sometimes you just got to give credit to the shooter and I believe it was up over his right shoulder and in the net and very early it was one- nothing but there was more. There was more. Sam, do you want to share or do you want to wait till we get to that point? We can wait. Okay, don’t don’t lose that. We have a we have a tidbit from the NHL on Miro Hastin and assists tonight. So, we’ll get to that on the gamewinner. Well, there actually was a good chance for Sam Steel. So, the Stars weren’t completely asleep to start the game, but they’re down one. Omar made a good save on seal on Steel. Then, Auter stopped Pinto from close range. But what happened on the second goal? Nick Jensen makes it two nothing. The official time of the goal was 8 minutes and 53 seconds. Amio and Jeru the assist. It’s two nothing. We’re sitting there going, “Oh boy, he might pull Jake if something else happens.” But this was a coverage nightmare. Well, my exact words were Oh, sugar, honey, iced tea. Show. Yeah, that’s what I said. So, yeah, this this was this was a bit of a debacle. And uh I I just want to put this on here. So, number one, Jake can see the shot. Okay. He he sees what’s going on on this drive from the point. This is how it starts for me. This is before the goal was scored. This is just what 30 seconds prior. Jake’s got it in his glove. Doesn’t pick it out cleanly. Slides behind him. Fortunately, it hits the post. Then play goes on for a little bit. And then we get into this. Now, here’s Thomas Harley behind the net. He loses his guy. Then I believe this is Maverick Bourke. This is Wyatt Johnston. And they’re just going straight out to their guys. And then they ultimately get beat. But Miko Ratnan is backing away from that high danger area that we talk about all the time. So, in my view, I’m going, well, this sure looks like man-on-man to me. I don’t know. But here’s where Wyatt gets beat right off the bat. He wants to go out too hard and fast. He gets beat back to the front of the net, and that’s where everything starts happening. And that I’m not sure. Oh, that says beat. So, Wyatt gets beat on his way back. Here’s Harley the second time. He gets beat again. He turns Which way, LS? Well, he kind of turned the wrong way. I mean, everything else is behind him. And then here’s Mo. He’s kind of going too far to the wall. I don’t know why he’s going over there. And then next thing you know, you got a twoono going to the front. These two guys are fighting over who’s actually going to score the goal. And look at Miko still standing in the very same position that he was in. And ultimately, it’s Nick Jensen to the rescue. And this one here goes up over Jake, over his I don’t even know if it made it over his left glove or it went underneath him. But there were two guys that had their stick on at the same time. But they gave it to Jensen. They gave it to Jensen. It was like two dogs fighting over a soup bone as a Razer might say. That’s That’s a clear two on in front of your goalender right there. Awesome defensive coverage, right? Two nothing Senators. Stars got a power play and Roe Hins got set up for a one-time right in the slot. Great glove save windmill from Allark. So, two high danger chances for the Stars in the period. But the Ottawa Senators had six, including Lars Eller on a one-timer, Ridley Greg on a backdoor redirection, and Drake Ba wide open at the right side of the crease from Stutsa, and somehow Auter came over and got that. Okay, remember that. Three high danger saves from Otter when it’s two nothing down. Then to start the second period, they give up a partial breakaway to Ridley Greg. Jake makes a big save there. And then Shane Pinto on a power play wide open on the right circle steps in and Jake stops that. So that’s five very what we call 10 bell saves to keep it at two. Any one of those goes in. It feels like if they got to three, it would be over, right? Yeah. That’s where that’s where I give credit to Jake. Uh I said it as soon as that goal went in. that that type of goal, the first one, has what is what has held Jake back from being that elite goalie that we all think he can be, right? He has great stretches. He’s unbelievable, but he just has that one goal and it seems to be a little more consistent than other goalies at at his level or his tier. And then all of a sudden, second one goes in and then he just completely flipped the script. not just not just making the saves he should and the Stars clamped down because they didn’t. As you’re reading it off, the Stars did not play a whole lot better defensively in that period. Jake made a couple saves side to side, the the tip on Greg, the the back door plays the he just started to read the game. And I’ll say from being a a goalie, I know it’s a different sport, from being a goalie, you don’t normally start a game not seeing it well and pick it up. If you start and you’re not seeing the puck or seeing the ball very well, it’s a sign of a harbinger of things to come. I don’t know if he did something after one of the periods, did some some of his drills to kind of start to see it better, but he completely flipped his game on its head. So, at that point, it felt very much like this was just an inevitable stars are going to give up a third and it’s going to be over. The one thing I did want to point out was Oscar Beck took a really nasty check from uh Hodgson there, the uh kid, Hudson Hodgegen, and Hayden Hodgson, excuse me. And Sam, you and I were watching that. He he went back first into the boards by the Ottawa bench. He folded the wrong way. And I’m just sitting there going like, “Thank good.” I know he left. He did come back. Yeah. Thank goodness he’s not in his 30s because that just I mean Well, the other night Sean went head first into the boards or neck and collarbone first into the boards and somehow survived that. Sometimes the the weird ones are not the ones that put you out of a game. Yeah. Right. You get nervous cuz he left the game, but I think it was just to stitch up whatever he had on the bridge of his nose. You said it was the helmet that caught Oscar back’s nose, right, on that hit. I didn’t say a word, by the way. No, I didn’t say anything. That’s true. He didn’t. I don’t I didn’t say a word. So, yep. This guy over here. Anyway, he was okay. He came back into the game. I do believe it was the bottom of his shield up when he when his head came back. Yeah. All right. But you’re right. But it was just probably somebody in your head that told you that. It was not me. Final four minutes of the You were up there eating suckers at the table. Those suckers were not there. Smelling salt, Sam. I love it. Ryan got that one up. Final four minutes of the second period though. Miko Rantin awoke. The uh the angry moose was awoken. Well, I think he’s always awake. He just had an opportunity to run through the between the two trees. But no, he I I think what what what confuses this defenseman that has this puck knocked off his stick is the reach of Ratin. ran in here. You can see him on the bottom of the circle. Puck comes out to the Dman and you can this is the distance that he travels. But what he does, he keeps his stick in his hand the whole time. He doesn’t show him his reach or anything. Defenseman sees him coming. Rantan still keeps it in his hand. He’s doesn’t let him see it. Now he’s a little closer. Still doesn’t let him see it. Now all of a sudden, I think the Dman’s thinking, I don’t know about that reach. Well, all of a sudden, here comes what does Riz Razer say? The lizard’s tongue. Lizard’s tongue. Something like that. Something like that. Sounds right. So anyway, here comes that stick. And then it was the play by Robo. The puck goes over to Robo and Robo in one motion just puts it up in an open area and then allows Ratin to step into it and keep his speed going. I mean it’s a perfect spot for him. Raton’s got everybody beat and he be gone. And once Ratin is in here, what you know what he does? Alls he does is he makes one move from his forehand to his backhand. Then he shoots it as Mark is, you know, kind of shuffling back and then he beats him five hole. I love from Ranton on this because as you mentioned, he just it’s quick. He just makes that move. But what he does too is the puck looks like it’s almost wobbling a little bit and he he has his head buried which to a goalie if you’re reading that you’re thinking okay I have another second here before he either settles it then he’s then he’s going to pick his head up and pick a spot. He’s lifting his head up as he’s releasing that shot. No chance you’re getting down. Yeah I think he’s got one of these things looking the whole time. He thinks he’s got his head buried. I don’t know really if you’re a goalender if there’s anybody on the Dallas Stars right now besides probably Wyatt but I mean the guy just does this every single night it seems like. not not just scoring goals, but just making big plays at the right moment. Y so remember Jake made a ton of a full handful of greata a saves at the end of the first and started the second period. Rant didn’t scores. Stars finished with a Sean had a a great chance where he dangled to the slot but just put it over the net. They were being outshot 21-3 by Ottawa after two periods of play. Dallas would outshoot the Senators for the game, including a 16-6 edge in the third period, and they came at Ottawa. Foxa had a twoon-one, put it into Mark. Robertson with a backhander on a rebound from a Wyatt tip. Then Petravic had a shot, a sprawling save where had one leg in the air and somehow made it. Then Wyatt had another inclos chop shot where it went off the pad and shot over. I mean, that sequence alone, you thought, how could they possibly not score? Well, they get a power play. Mo Rantin and falling down wristster in the slot was a great chance, but then as Lud said, three chances, five attempts, and the final one for Jason Robertson ended that nine-game goal drought. Yeah. I mean, it it was perfect for Robo. I mean, you could tell how how he was when he got that goal to go in. But but again, it it started with Renon and it ends up back with Renon on his tape, off his tape, and then Robo right down the pipe. and you know he gets his shot finally. I I think we were all just waiting to see what kind of celebration it would be and you know he was it looked like he scored a goal in game seven. I mean that’s how important it was. He was fired up and I get it because he’s a goal scorer and he hasn’t been scoring. Now he gets one 2-2 after that. Maverick Bourc had a great chance on a rebound from an Adam Ernie tip play. Omar made a great save there. Sean had a rebound on a Hasten and shot and he hit the side of the net. He could have won it there. Sam Steel, they set him up. Sean found him right in the mid. Such a good play by Tyler. And a great save by Mark, but the Stars were the better team by far by a mile in that third period. Then they go to overtime. Tim Stol hit the post as he sped into the slot and shot it. Hastenan had a wideopen look from the right circle. Shane Pinto gets to the low slot on the backhand. Otter comes up big. Stutel again rushes in on the backhand. Otter makes the save. And then the final sequence. This is crazy because Pinto saved a goal twice. Somehow as the pass goes across to Miro Hasten and Omar is down and out. Does not have any chance at either of those. Pinto dives across the face of the goal. Blocks it. It looks like he’s a secret service agent trying to protect the president. Blocks the first one. Miro takes a second shot from his knees. Pinto blocks that one. It gets it’s a Robertson. He takes a shot, but nobody could stop Roe hints as he finishes it off. Stars win the game. They snap a eightgame losing skid in Ottawa. And Luds, we’re at the end of this one going I can’t believe this team found a way to win. Yeah, I was I was a little concerned though cuz early there, you know, Hint had his he was inside the blue paint and he had his skate in there and and Merch got his pad stuck on it one time and after a couple of those chances that you talked about and it seemed like they were going to challenge it. Obviously, they didn’t, but I was concerned there for a little bit because I got to get home and catch a possum. So, I wanted to get get out of here. All right. Well, let’s talk more because we still got to get to a full hour here before we go chase an opossum or multiple ums here on the DLS Stars postgame show. Excellent call back. Thank you. Before we get to those opossum or opossums or possums, let’s talk about PNC Bank because PNC Bank put on a heck of an event at the game uh the games on the 4th and 6th of November. We were there on the 6th. Had a great time waiting a bunch of fans, die hards. Uh I got my custom hockey hair hat. Uh, it was great to see all the Stars fans who showed up at PNC Bank’s Main Street branch this past week at PNC Plaza. Love seeing how Dallas committed to long-term growth in all its luscious hockey hair glory. For those who missed it, our Main Street pop-up branch event was the ultimate celebration of PNC’s reliable, responsible approach to long-term financial planning. Told through the lens of another amazing long-term investment, Epic Hockey Hair, like this guy to my right. At the Main Street branch, fans had the chance to pick up their own Dallas Stars hockey hair hat. Limited edition Stars hat with gorgeous mane of hockey hair coming out the back. You can wear it with the hair or as LSDs figured out while we were sitting at the bar. You can wear it without the hair and it will still be comfortable. We we had to do some uh investigating in the bar right before the event. It was a reminder the best things whether legendary flow or strong financial plan come to those who are patient and committed to the long run. PNC Bank, an official partner, the Dallas Stars. Did you think there was goalender interference on that overtime play? I was concerned with it only because uh hence escape was in in there. Although I I don’t know if it was at the time that was trying to make a save. So I don’t I’m still confused on the goalending rules anyways. I I never know what’s going on and that what what is and what isn’t anymore. So, I just thought I mean with the way the game was going I I who knows what was going to happen, but it’s good news that it’s not because again possum king’s got to get going. I’ I’ve been told that you should give them flea medicine, their dogs flee medicine if they like possum because they’re going to get fleas from the possum. Well, he gets one monthly. There you go. Then you’re all good. So, I know he’s good to catch as many as he want. You’re all good except for you have an opasum. At least it’s alive. I’m going with opasum. Sticking with it running around. What are you gonna name it? Oh, makes me think of the every time he said you guys say, I’m thinking about the toadies with Possum Kingdom Lake. Yep. Thank you. Thank you, Ryan. Ryan enjoyed the reference. Sam, you know the song. Yes. Good ’90s song. Favorite band of all time. Is it? Yeah. That the one that’s like taking me down to the streets. What? It’s a wing song. That is a role models. He gets a high five for that because I just never know what he’s seen and what he hasn’t. Rounder Sam, come on. I gotta watch it. I gotta watch it. Okay. Um, just in case you were wondering, you cannot challenge late in the game and into overtime. That would be the league review. So, the Ottawa coaches were looking at it. They looked like they were clearly unhappy or maybe they were hoping that there was something. The league reviews all scoring goal, all all goals. They always It’s like the NFL. NFL. They wanted to go home too. They wanted to get they wanted to shut this game down so they could watch Anaheim and Colorado play. I I get it. But remember like in the NFL where they review every scoring play, every touchdown was reviewed for legality. Same with the NHL with goals. So they would have looked at it. They would have if for goalie interference in overtime, it’s league review. It would have not been a challenge. That being said, hey sports guy to0 just gifted 10 10 memberships. How about that? for continuously donating these memberships. Plenty of people here received a free membership. Anybody that we uh uh Cam Takur, I think is how you say it. Oh, CAO TK who was complaining earlier that he wanted to have his name instead of his his YouTube handle. Yep. So, he got one. All of you welcome. Jacob JP. Oh, man. Derek Doug, thank you. Taj Ace. Look at that Dio. Wonderful. Okay. Um I want to do a quick call back to Kayla because Kayla had two follow-ups from the Remember she said she finally signed up to be a die hard but had to get two shirts. She said she picked the new green shiner style shirt for her free shirt and then because it made her add another shirt. You weren’t allowed to say that. She said it. I’m reading. Oh, you said it. And then she said she picked the Wyatt 16-bit one that I’m wearing right now. And then she followed up with, “My grandpa left me some inheritance, so I was finally able to join the Die Hards silver lining.” So I think that’s a that’s a little jab. I think that’s a thank you to to Kayla and her departed grandfather. So all right, how about that? All right, let us get to our main attraction of the evening, which is the PNC Bank player of the game. We have to debate this one because we haven’t decided. Now, as we said earlier, talked about it yet. Okay, I got mine, though. So, there’s a serious argument to be made about Jakeer after he and the rest of the team had a poor start. he doesn’t stand on his head, this game isn’t even close enough for a rally. So, in one sense, I want to vote for Jay Cottoner. But if Miko Rantin doesn’t play in my mind the same way every shift over and over, this comeback maybe doesn’t happen and doesn’t start. So, and then there’s my I’m going to name everybody on the team. My third one would be Robo because he desperately needed it. What are your thoughts? I don’t know if I’m doing 21 or 12 in the in the camera, but I’m trying to do 21. Well, we know it’s not Fox. I was just going to say, are you picking Ratic for you? 21 is my vote. Why? Matu. Yeah. I mean, the he got the assist as much as Ren and that was a great play. That’s a very good pass by Robo at the very end of a long shift to just get it into space and give them a chance. Then he gets the goal. He played a pretty good game. I mean, one half again. This is This is just like Jake. You mentioned Jake, you know, turning it around after that goal. Robo looked pretty bad on that first goal, too. He had two turnovers on that goal and seven shots and that led to the the first goal for Ottawa. He had a great response to it and I think he was the best game, best player in the game. Luds and one a minus for producer because he had seven. He did. He has seven. He ended up with I didn’t make it. Oh, yeah. You made it corporate. Well, he had they make Denver. Are they in Denver? I guess so. Why would they make it the right way? So, Robo Robo had a game right now. Three-point game. He had a goal, two assists, plus one, seven shots, 10 shot attempts, and three hits. Yeah, of that. No brainer. So, there you go. Jason Robertson is the PNC Bank player of the game. At the Main Street branch, fans had the chance to pick up their own Dallas Stars hockey hair hat, limited edition Stars hat with a gorgeous mane of hockey hair coming out of the back. It was a reminder that the best things, whether it’s a legendary flow, or a strong financial plan, come to those who are patient and committed to the long run, like Sam with the Ritzovian buttons. PNC Bank, an official partner of the Dallas Stars. Hand down, Billy Buck. No, you said patient. I’m being patient. Yes, Sam. The floor recognizes Mr. Nestler. Yeah. Sam Nestler DLS stars. Uh Mirro Hastin, I forgot to mention this when we got the finally. Well, we got excited. It’s okay. Mro Hkin’s assist on rope hints gamewinner was his fourth straight uh multi-ass assist game which tied Roe Hance from last season for the longest in Dallas Stars franchise history which is kind of surprising. You’re saying from 67 until now. Two assists or more? Multi- assist. Yeah. In four straight games. a little surprising, but that means if he gets two assists or more against Montreal, it will be a his record to hold. What do you guys think about what Mero’s last week week and a half has been? Because two more assists tonight, he has 11 points in his in a now fiveame point streak, a goal, and nine assists or excuse me, 10 assists. I I think since he went headto-head with McDavid that his game has gone like that. I I I think it has. I mean, I you know, again, the defensive side of things all the time isn’t, you know, but he does so much else. But, but I I like now that he’s shooting the puck more on the power play. He’s getting opportunities five on five and he’s getting in there and taking some shots where he used to kind of dish him off and couple different times. So, very noticeable. And again, as much as I talk about the def defensive side of things, I mean, Miro basically plays defense in a different way. He’s got the puck the majority of the time, so he defends with the puck. He, as I always say, he transports the puck through the middle of the ice from out of his own zone. He does so many things to ignite offense, you know what I mean? And he’s generally the guy when the puck turns over in the own zone and he somehow he’s got something to do with that first pass out of the zone. What have you thought of his defending this year? Well, I’m always, you know, how I am. I I I mean, I I don’t think Miro Miro doesn’t defend like a a heavy big body kind of guy. He does it more with his stick and he takes pucks away. I don’t know if I like the whole group in defending to be totally honest with you. I’m I’m a little bit different there. I want it to be more difficult for people to get to the front of the net. I don’t I don’t want him to want to get to the front of the net. Right now, it’s pretty easy for him. But again, when you have a goal turner like Jake when he’s on um he can he can do that. So, I still think that their coverage in their end, they’re still going through the transition of changing from one system to another. there there was times tonight I I think that they’re almost back like I said that one like it reminds me of the man-on-man stuff. So, you know, I think they kind of fall back to what they known for the last three, four years or whatever. So, I’m really curious to see if that changes because Golison seems very confident that after game, not after game 20, it’s not like it’s just going to happen next week, but games 20 through 40, 20 through 50, he really thinks that that’s going to start to separate. We talked about this before, but the biggest thing he keeps pointing out is that he thinks that that little bit of a in between is going to start to fade away. And I’m interested because if that does I mean to me 90% of the goals against right now have come from that we were talking about where they get stuck in between they’re chasing around a little bit and we see their what they did last year and the years before that under Petore. If they can figure out a way to just settle it back a little bit and let them f and play on the outside like golden wants them to. Y I think this team takes a massive step forward in the way they play the game. I just don’t think it’s going to be that soon. I I think it could be again I’ll go back to what Paul Marice said when he first got to Florida. You see, for some reason he said game 62. I just think it’s you don’t just purge that kind of stuff. So so much of it is instinct that’s drilled into you for such a long time. Imagine they played a couple hundred games or more like that that style. So um you know and again I think there’s times where you can see them the hesitation that is because it’s like well wait I’m not supposed to do that and then you do this and then at the speed the way the game is now you get those chances. So I think it’s going to take longer. I think you’re getting 50 60 games down the road. You’re not just a pretty face. You mentioned the You’re talking to Sam. We’re talking I got a point of both of you going that direction. But let’s you were talking about Mero’s game since he went headto-head with McDavid. It’s not a coincidence that his point streak of five games started with the Oilers when he scored that goal. He had had two goals already against Carolina, but I don’t think either one of them were intended shots on goal. Weren’t Weren’t they two horrible deflections that went in? You kind of went, “Okay, great.” But he scored against the Oilers. went headto-head with McDavid and listen to his statline since four assists against the Ducks, two against Nashville, two against Seattle, two tonight against Ottawa that like there’s another level here and Well, yeah, but but see that’s what I mean about him defending with the puck because he’s he’s lugging the puck up the Well, he doesn’t lug it like flies. Yeah, he he kind of glides up the ice. So, yeah. So, with a one-inch hollow on his blades, which I still don’t know how he can do. Is that what he uses? Yeah. Yeah. Is that insane? So, I don’t know if people are familiar with hollows, the which is the curvature of the bottom of the skate blade, the deeper the hollow, which is which means the smaller the fraction, the more you can dig into the ice, but it it sinks into it more. And so, it’s like skating into Some of us don’t like hollow. We don’t need hollow. Well, that’s there’s Luds. You are you a one-inch hollow guy? I don’t even know what that Well, I mean, Miros is is a very flat blade. Yeah. He skates with like no edges. Yours aren’t even sharpened. No. I You know what? Rusted. I hate it when they sharpen the skate. So you’re you’re running around on the concrete with your skates. They probably do one in now. It’s Andrew. Whenever he sharpens the skates, they go down a piece of What? What the hell is playing out? We probably said Oh, okay. We’ll do that in a second. Ryan Ryan’s Ryan’s got some comeuppance for you in a second, but I want to hear this gate thing. Yeah. I I don’t know what the number is. cuz I don’t know what the hell I bet you it’s a one that you get. What do you mean a one? I thought it was like a 5/8 or something like that. Well, that could be it. That’s That’s sharper. Yeah, I don’t like them sharp. I don’t because as soon as they get sharpened, they go across a piece of plastic neck. Like I I don’t like them because you’re trying to get rid of those edges. I don’t need it. I got enough weight to dig into the ice. I don’t need to. That’s fair. Well, and they say when’s the last time anybody ever seen me glide around the ice? Well, they say that the flatter the the the blade, it’s easier for it to sit on the ice. He’s What’s What’s the giggle machine going on there? Are you okay? You just put it on the screen at least. What was it? You don’t have to read it out loud. Just read it to yourselves. Yeah, I see it. All right. Read to yourselves quietly, people. Wow. Okay. Up next, uh Ryan’s got to get it get here on the DLS Stars postgame show and we’ll take your super chats. Is that for you? Yeah. Who was it? We’re in Oil’s. It’s time for Luds to do his ad. Not Katie. What? Oh, are we on a commercial break here? Yeah. Oh, commercial. Well, let me Wait, is it about the uh face off collection? And it can be. Oh, I have you people heard about this face off collection? It’s brand new. It’s just out there. Hey, Caleb bought one tonight. I know. See, there there’s a couple people that didn’t apparently know. Oh, no. We needed a a loan or something. But, um, inheritance. Inheritance. Uh, so we have the green one that apparently looks like some beer out there. I don’t know. And then the black one. But the green one seems to be our favorite. And it is the faceoff collection. And if you wear one of these shirts to our event on December 7th at Hooters and then the takeover deal, uh you may get a couple free beers in there at Hooters if you wear one of these shirts there. But I think you got to be on the list that’s going over to the game, right? Uh stipulations and a lot of that is because we want a free shirt. I mean that’s kind of the whole the ones that are have tickets to the DLS Stars takeover to get into here and get is there like free stuff over there hooters or the meal is included. Is that right? For those that have the tickets but you have been trying to Why do I have to buy beer? Cuz you invited be included. We’re already in minute 10. You guys I don’t know. Sam, it’s up to you now to talk about the takeover. The diary when we started the takeover that Les was already talking about December 7th. It’s sold out, guys and gals. Sold out. We put it in or Ben actually GM Ben put that in the Discord first and we sold almost all the tickets in the Die Hard Discord. So guess what? Become a Die Hard because then you’ll be able to see those things first. Get access to it. Get all the articles that I write, Sean writes, all of our crew from all around the the DLS teams. Plus, you get it no ads, so it’s easy to read. Go to alldls.com/newsletter, sign up, get all the latest from everything here at DLS, right to your inbox. Are you writing that newsletter? No, that newsletter. That’s Ali, the guy from the Cowboys Cowboys crew. They don’t trust me to write. Don’t you have a Dallas newsletter? You don’t do that. I’d just like to point out two things. One, people in chat having fun tonight. They should having a lot of fun. There’s conversation about uh what type of skate hollow you should be sharpening at. And well, I’m sure Andrew is watching. Tweet in. Somebody gave him a shout out. I I lost Andrew. No, he’s shout out to Andrew. Half inch hollow for the win. Like half inch is very I knew what FTW meant. Thank you. Yeah, half inch hollow is sort of a standard, but I’ve been trying as I’ve gotten older. I’ve been trying to get away from that to get closer to Luds as I have, you know, cafeteria spoons that I’m skating on because as you get older, you want a little extra glide. You don’t want to be digging into the mud so much. You got the knees going. So, I’m uh I’m I’m close to 3/4, but not I think I’m at Doesn’t matter what skates I have. I just chip it out, get a change, you know, and then throw up in the hallway and then throw up all over the wall. True story. Experience play hockey. Ryan gets his comeuppance here because he would like an apology. Ryan, why don’t you throw that Jason Robertson uh postgame graphic? He sent us a thing. Well, you say it. You’ve got a microphone. So, I checked and NHL. Let me give him six shots on goal. I’m looking at it. Says seven right here. Get a refresh. Let’s refresh it because they definitely took one away. changed on my screen. He’s going to Robertson is going to be mad about that, too, cuz he want he looks at that. Oh, the little circle button. PayPal. I didn’t know you got to refresh this this stuff all the time. Nice catch. I thought once it’s done, it’s done. Why is it up here? So, throw that up real quick. So, it’s a great graphic. I like they review all of that stuff. But it’s funny because, okay, well, let’s just stare at this goal. He’s plus one six shots and then poor Robo, who’s a winger, has to see 0.0. I want to change my face offs because he doesn’t take sure why they put that on there. Yeah, that’s weird. It seems like they needed to grab. Why not just put one goal, two assists, three points, put the We’re not trying to hit on you, corporate. I’m give it about it. Well, I just wanted to let everybody know that Ryan and his corporation was correct. my corporation. Yes, Ryan represents corporate time for super chats. Hit us up. Send them. LS has to go battle with a possum shortly. Be nice to it. Let’s start. And by the way, um in the chat, um who was it? Kujo, I think somebody was asked. Yeah, Kujo Banjo. Yes, I believe Wyatt Johnson 16bit shirts are still available. All right. So, let’s start with Tim T Farmer with a Kyle Capo Biano or as Luds calls him Coco Pabana. And you’re after the cup. It’s been a while. So, here you go, boys. Robo looked really good tonight. He had the swagger on his stick. I don’t know on sounds weird that he has when he’s feeling it. Just a little extra waggle. Looks like 2223 Robo when he does that. Sam, do you remember how many goals Robo had in 22 23? 36. No, it was more than that. Or was it 43? It was 40ome. I thought it was his 46. Yeah. Yeah, cuz he had 46 in on 50. I remember. How do you mean things are like lightning on these machines? I don’t have my Google machine open. Oh, well, what is that? What’s that? This is a button. Uh Justin Ritzovian button on a Ritz cracker. Victoria E. Green made this and Harley gave it to me. Shout out to you guys. Okay. 22 23 he had 46 the year before he just said 46. 41. He also missed Can we play that back? Eight games in 2122. No, that was the first time had 50. Yes, he did. Something to shoot for. Um, and by the way, thank you Tim for the super. Nice to see you back on the live show. I wasn’t listening. All right, we go to the next one. It is Mason with a Hey Skinnon 99 Cup here. Great things happen when we are giving hits instead of taking all of them. Word. Thank you, Mason. We out hit him 24 to 15 tonight. I agree. All right, lads. Guess who? Guess who? Oh, man. Uh oh. Is it uh uh Finger Blaster? It is. Finger blaster 911. Super chat. A Lquist or Sedor. And you’re after the Cub. I’m willing to have a come to Jesus with Harley if no one else is. Yeah, someone needs to. Can you elaborate a little bit on what he’s talking about? Well, Thomas needs to be better. Like, he’s not Thomas Harley before I hate to put it this way, but he’s not the guy before the contract, you know? Um, it’s the it’s the pizza sponsorship going to his I was I was going to say maybe it needs to be a different sponsor, but I don’t want to I don’t know. We love you, DJouro. There you go, DJouro. Thank you, Sam. No, I I don’t. He doesn’t seem to be the same guy. Like he’s making some mistakes and the puck isn’t on his stick as much and getting pucks. How many shot? Let’s see where where is uh what what the hell number is he? 55, right? He was 55. What did he have? Well, he had three shots tonight. I don’t remember any of them, but but he got him up there. I mean, I I just I don’t He’s not as noticeable to me as as he has been. Yeah, he’s turning pucks over, too. I think the the biggest thing he’s not, you know, he’s never been, you know, the biggest thing with Thomas Harley for for me always is his poise and abilities with the puck and he’s just making certain plays that just haven’t been the case. Maybe he’s kind around with him to be slowing him. Complete side note, I in the chat I got uh remmonstrated Sam for not using LS’s pet possum’s proper name. O Kayla was quick to remember that point out that the his posum has a name. It’s O. And Britney said that the equipment manager for the Blues back in the day was the best at skate profiles in my opinion. Swiss. That’s what I’m going to Steve Wisman. Do you remember that name? Luds Wittman for Wis Steve Wisman aka Swiss for the Blues. Apparently great at skate sharpening back in the day. No. No. He has no idea. Well, we tried. Let’s go to the next super chat. I’m thinking I’m gonna name the big possum the big O like Oscar Robertson basketball player or or yeah the big old if I could read it I would read the super chat out loud but I can’t it’s Cam Ryan can you zoom nope hastin and hastin and rantin Nico all caps Sam fine oh we can what are we doing squinting if we can this how what Why? Why have I been reading this as far away as possible when you could do that? So Cam writes, “Nico fired those people from Nico on fire. Go star. Sam, you could read the Ardell one if you’d like.” Oh man. Can you or can you read? It’s a Jamie Ben and Mo Rantin from Ardell. 96 is such a special player. Is he realizing new in Dallas? He seems to have that quality that only the best have. He wills his team when they read it most. Well, is he in your top five NHL forwards? No, but he is in the top 10. Go dog, go. Uh, well done, Sam. Uh, yeah. So, oh, the other ones was, uh, Tio wants to do a super chat fund to help Luds with his Oasum problem. And we also have, uh, Matt who wants to get LASIK for Sam. So, everybody’s trying to be generous. So, I wear glasses. I would love LASIK. I just So Ardo basically saying, do you think that he’s realizing a new status in Dallas because of just what a quality player is? Is he in your top five NHL forwards right now? 10. Top 10. 10. Yeah. Luds. Top. Rantin. Is he a top five? Top 10 in the NHL right now. He’s top 10 for sure. Y top top five. I mean, the problem is you got I don’t think he’s five. You got Mo, excuse me, you got Macar. You’ve got Well, he’s not. He said forwards. That’s right. So he said top five fours. Sorry, not Mar. Sorry. When did Mar no meant Davididle? There’s three right there. Echel um I have to think of off top of my head. Well, right now Hughes Cabrini is up there now. You can name three of them on the Ducks right now. I’m missing a very easy one, but I I don’t know if he I mean he does so many other things than just put up points and score goals. So, I mean, I think we’re thinking of guys that are lighting it up, but he’s front along the walls, the passes he makes. I’ll put him seventh. I don’t know if there’s a better back guy on his backhand in the league. I don’t know if there is. And the combination of his the combination of him him physically. Yeah, you should throw Crosby in there because he’s an alltime great on that. But there’s there’s heat on it when he passes it, too. It’s not like a little saucer. He’s got heat on it and you watch he comes down the right side or he come down the left side and if he’s making a backhand pass, he can pass it cross ice with some steam on it. I mean, and it’s generally right on the tape. Yep. He’s he’s good. He’s the moose. Let’s go to the next super chat. Ross winner Jamie Ben with a Casey to Smith and you’re 99 Cup year. Do I have the best username in the chat? We should have a full segment on that one day. Oh yeah. Art Ross winner Jamie Ben. We should have a segment during one of our shows on a day where I have I can’t be here. You can do a great a whole conversation about that. Does not usually keep things really streamlined. Bing bang. You have a great name. Ardell with a Brendan Smith. Great picture as well. It’s probably Darren Hatcher and Craig Lewig. Fire Nico and hire Mo. Today was good day. Brendan Smith two assists one year ago in a seven to1 win against the Penguins for the Dallas for the Dallas Stars. one year ago today. It went up 6 nothing in the first period. Do you remember that game? No. Yeah, it six nothing in the first period and won seven to1. Another one. Yeah, we do. Um, hit it. ER 93 or Aeros maybe. I don’t know how you read that. Hkinan and Lindell in a twothirds majority vote. Senators elect stars to win. Nice little government tiein. Sam, did you use any government humor analogies, puns in your story tonight? Still trying to figure out that word government. Guys, oh, tell me in not on the chat cuz we’re going to leave in a minute, but in on Twitter, what is the word when you score a goal that gets you closer to tying the game? It’s the blank goal. Proximity goal. He’s been thinking about this, Luds, for three hours. Three hours for a I have you ever heard the term proximity goal? Never. Never. He believes that that’s the goal that you score before the goal you tie the game. It’s like the on deck hitter goal or something. We better go before we have to go to overtime. Yeah. The Dallas Stars rallied from an early 2-0 deficit and beat the Ottawa Senators 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday night at Canadian Tire Centre. It was Dallas’ first victory against the Senators in Ottawa since March 6, 2016, snapping an eight-game winless streak (0-6-2) at Canadian Tire Centre. Drake Batherson and Nick Jensen put the Senators up early in the first period, but that would be all that Jake Oettinger would allow in his net. Mikko Rantanen scored on a breakaway in the second period and Jason Robertson tied the game with a power play goal in the third period. Robertson’s goal snapped a nine-game goal drought. Roope Hintz tallied the game-winner in overtime as the Stars improved to 7-1-3 in their last 11 games.
