DSIG: Unscripted “Back To The Beginning”

Feeling [Music] good. Really excited, but also like an emotional package of everything of like excited, nervous, screaming, crying, throwing up, everything. Really excited to start this new season and see all the girls that are going to show up. [Laughter] Claire literally Claire literally Oh, wait. This is so cute. Thank you. Hi. We missed you at skate last night. I’m just ready to get it started. Honestly, how quickly everything comes back around and then I look back and I’m like, wait, I auditioned for my first time like almost 5 years ago is crazy. Things go by so fast. But the best thing about coming back as a veteran is like you have a team of girls around you. So, it’s in a way feels like just another day of practice, but with like the excitement of auditions and jitters and all the things. While I have your attention, Connie, my mother, insisted on making snacks for y’all. So, if anyone’s allergic to peanuts, please don’t eat them. But other than that, they should be good for everyone. So, I think coming back with all your best friends and just getting to earn your spot back cuz you know what being on this team is like, you know what you have to lose, but you also know what you gain if you make it back. So, it’s like I want that back. Welcome. Good morning. How are you everyone? Good. Thanks for being here. My name is Robin Dockerty. I’m the Ice Girls director. This is Kaylee Boy. She’s our assistant director. If I were to give one piece of advice, put everything out there. That’s your one opportunity. You get one chance to make an impression. So, let that show in whatever you do today. You’ve got a unique situation where yes, you can audition as a dancer and yes, you can audition as a skater only, but we expect all of the dancers to be getting on the ice and all the skaters to be learning the choreography. It’s very important for a dancer to have an appreciation of the pattern of what goes on on the ice on any given game night because that’s why we exist. Skaters are doing freestyle to showcase their talent and their skills on ice. Uh we also do a small portion with the snow plows so we can see that snow plow in their hand and see how they manage that on ice. I can’t wait to watch you. I’m like, I’m not even excited about me to go. I want you to go. That’s you. I hope so. If not, I’m going be so sad. I’m excited. I’m just ready to like do it. [Applause] [Music] Every year I get so excited to lead the choreography aspect of auditions. We have 25 minutes to stretch, get warm, learn choreography, do it in groups, perform in groups, ask questions before they get in front of all the judges. It’s the most stressful part I feel like because 25 minutes is not a lot of time to learn a dance, know a dance, and be perfect. Especially when you only have 88 counts to perform and try to make the team. [Music] Back back again. Back back again. Back again. We’re coming. Everyone good? Yep. Yes. I always just try to tell myself like that was the best that I could do and I left it on the floor and hopefully they’ll be proud of me. I think it’s important for your judging panel to be made up of a group of people that you trust and that have a good idea of what our team’s built on. Whether it be people that are currently on our staff or people that you’re bringing in from the outside that have a different perspective. This part of the job is never easy, but you have to remember in this role that it’s your job to find the best group of women to become Dallas Stars ice girls.

Take a peek behind the curtain at Dallas Stars Ice Girls Auditions Day 1. Hear from Veteran Candidate Claire on the emotions of being back on the audition stage as well as Ice Girls Director Robbyn Dougherty on what it takes to be a part of the Ice Girls team through skating, dancing, community and more.
