FIRST THINGS FIRST | Nick Wright STUNS, Seattle Seahawks DO NOT NEED TO BEAT Rams | NFL

battle in the FC West. Both Seahawks and Rams are top everyone’s power rankings. If you pick up the USA Today, top of the standings. We’ve had a lot of talk about Sam Darnold, uh, Matthew Stafford, but look at these defenses. I didn’t realize how good the Rams defense was because we’ve been giving so many flowers to the Seahawks defense. Nick, you said you had a hay maker. Whoa. Who’s this a must win for? Whoa. He’s talking about you. Here’s the deal. If either of these guys comes on and says this is a must-win for either of these two teams, they’re lying. They are going to get to play each other again. They are It’s a divisional game. They’re both having great seasons. We’re going to see a rematch, by the way, a rematch in a prime window as opposed to, you know, buried at a 405 window. Not even with the, you know, the the America’s Game of the Week. And so the only person this actually is a must-win for is Matthew Stafford. And as increasingly more people are talking about his Hall of Fame chances. Ah because in order for him to win MVP, they almost assuredly do have to win the division. And so they’ve got to win this home game against their divisional rival. Here is the list of quarterbacks in NFL history. Graphics with an MVP and a Super Bowl. Every single one of those guys who’s eligible for the Hall of Fame is in the Hall of Fame except for Joe Thyman and he won his Super Bowl during a strike season. So, everyone who won a Super Bowl in a full year and won an MVP is in the Hall of Fame or is going to be in short order. Matt Stafford can join that list. Can’t win the MVP as a wild card. Can’t win the division without winning this game. So, for his MVP chances, it’s a must win for Matt. It’s a must-win for the Seattle Seahawks. Let’s be serious here. I’m Mr. I’m Mr. Seattle Seahawks. You guys know that. You guys know that. Um, it’s a must-win for Seattle because the Rams are more established with Stafford and McVey. They won a Super Bowl together. And right now, teams are looking for clarity. Teams are trying to look at who are we right now. And believe me, the Seattle Seahawks have a ton a ton of confidence in what they’re doing, how they’re playing, and what they’ve built. 100%. It will go through the roof. If you take down Matthew Stafford and the Rams right now, if you show we’re the king of this division. We’re the division. We’re the king of the NFC. The NFC. We’re the king of the NFL. That’s who we are. And yes, there’s going to be a rematch. Yes, there’s going to be another game. Yes, in the grand scheme of things, it’s like, h, and again, I always talk about this because I often am like I downplay games. I’m like, ah, this is a divisional game. Yeah, it’s going to be tough. This, that, and the third, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You’re going to play each other again. You know, you just want to play well. No, you got to win. Got to win. That’s that’s really how I believe right now because of the impact it’ll have for the Seahawks throughout the rest of the season and the belief and the confidence of Sam and this team. If they come up short, if they play bad, Sam doesn’t look great. Jackson Smith and Jigba can’t get going, that defense can’t, you know, slow down uh Stafford, you start to feel like, uh, have we really beat anyone great? Can Sam actually handle the playoffs? Is this just like what we saw with the Vikings last year, then Sam got beat by McVey and the Rams and blah blah blah, right? That becomes a conversation. I promise you that. I promise you that if the Seattle Seahawks don’t win this game and they struggle a little bit, you start to have that narrative and we can say, “Oh, that’s outside noise.” Outside noise always finds its way on the inside. Always, always, always, always. So, this this game really does matter. I still think at the core of it, it is still just a mustplay great game, even if you lose. You could lose the same way that you lost to the Bucks. But then I’d say, why can’t your defense rise to the occasion against the better offenses? And that’s what I want to go through because we’re looking about these rankings right now um in terms of the the the defensive rankings. And these can be a bit misleading. And it’s why you really got it. You can’t just look at, oh, they score less points and, you know, they give up less points and therefore they’re the better defense, blah blah blah blah blah. And it’s like, not quite. Let’s let’s let’s look at the Rams schedule. I’m going to do the same thing for the Seahawks. They play the Texans. Congrats. They held the Texans to no points. Congratulations. Um, they held Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans to not much. Congratulations. Uh, Philadelphia Eagles gave up 33 points minus six because one of them was from a a field goal return. Okay, the Colts 20 points should have been 27 if their receiver literally didn’t drop the ball running into the end zone. Okay, the Rams M. Jones hanging 26. Okay, you beat the Ravens with Cooper Rush. Congratulations. the Jacksonville Jaguars who have been a disaster of a team. Make no mistake about it. They’re like it’s like a cartoon show over there with Trevor Lawrence. You held them to seven. That was one of the worst games. The the amount of drop passes in that game. I I mean it was it was it was insane. You held the Saints to no to 10 points. Congratulations. M. Jones putting up 26 points. Looking good in that game. Again, that game the Rams were in control of that game the entire time. No question about it. M. Jones looking pretty good. Looking pretty good. The Seahawks now week one held pretty in that 49ers team to 17 points. Not bad. Aaron Rogers in that Steelers team. Hey, against the good defenses, they get shut down. Pretty good. Saints, eh, right. Cardinals, Kyler Murray has a little bit of juice to him. Definitely. Nah, you know, it’s an inbetweener. The Bucks, that was exceptionally bad defensive game. That is a legitimate scar. I don’t want to say scar, you know, it’s a red mark against them. And I mean, just ask your coach, right? He he said it. Um they could not tackle. It was messy. Um was it an outlier game? Was it like when you play up against better offenses? I don’t know. Find out against the Jags, right? Not good. Um although they weren’t relying on all the drops they got. I mean, both teams got both the Rams and uh the Seahawks to be fair got after Trevor Lawrence just like nonstop. Um, but uh I would say that the Jags played exceptionally poorly in that game. So much of it was self-inflicted. It was when they were in London. I mean like I made a video about that game just being like this is one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen. Again, it’s not like I think the Jags are this great team obviously, but I do think that the Seahawks controlled that game defensively more so. They’re the ones that really made life miserable for Trevor Lawrence, more so than I think the Jags made themselves miserable against the Rams. And then 2719 against Texans. Again, you know, doesn’t really matter. Uh dominating the Commanders, that team was also injured, but I think, you know, for a moment they were they had a little bit more going for them, but then Jane gets injured. You know, kind of a a messy win. Nothing to big to write home about. The only reason why I even remotely made a big game big deal about that game was because you had someone like Collins saying that the Seattle Seahawks aren’t good, that they’re going to lose this game, that they can’t handle flying across the country, like just weird stuff. And then obviously dominate the Cardinals, Jacobe Brassette, etc., etc. That’s why this game matters so much to me. That’s why this game matters so much to me because then you got the Titans. Congrats. You got JJ McCarthy and the Vikings. Congrats. Congrats. You got the most inconsistent up and down Atlanta Falcons. Congrats. The Colts, really interesting. Rams, definitely interesting. Panthers, no. 49ers, I don’t know. We’ll see what the heck that team looks like by January 4th. I don’t know who’s the going to be playing, who’s the quarterback, who’s healthy, who’s not. You know, Christian McCaffrey making it to there. Who knows? So, the against the Rams twice is clearly the most important. Clearly, that is who are we right now? Who are we? And it’s important. It’s really, really, really important. You come away with this win here, you slow down Matthew Stafford, you make him look nowhere near as great as he has been against bad teams, that means something. And on the flip side, Sam Darnold looks great or just good enough against a great defense, that means something. If he’s hitting those deep balls to Jackson Smith and Jigba and etc, etc., they’re able to get the run game going, blah blah blah blah blah. You know, Sam Darnold takes a sack, doesn’t fumble it, and it’s okay, whatever. He got hit, he got sacked, move on. Next play, lets it rip, right? And and putting up points, it’s like, okay, all right, let’s get after it. Like that this team does need that. That is what you need when you’re a young team, when you’re a new team, when you have new coaches, new quarterback, new pieces. You you you it can’t just be based off of what you believe. You need to see it. You need to perform. And you’re doing it against, it just so happens against a great team, an established team, an established quarterback, a quarterback fighting for a Hall of Fame resume at this point. Shawn McVey is obviously built as a genius and rightfully so. And this team is legit. This the the Shawn McVey Stafford era has been very successful. Very successful. And it’s up to the Seahawks to say, “That’s great. Your time is done. Our time is now and the team needs that. The locker room needs that. The coaching staff needs that. So that’s why I say that it’s a must-win. The Rams can lose this game and say, “Ah, we lost a tough game. It’s all right. We’re still working some things out. We’re still figuring some stuff out. We’re good. We’re not worried. They they they’re going to have that unconditional confidence.” Shawn McVey, no one’s questioning Shawn McVey at this point. No one’s questioning Matthew Stafford at this point. They’re just they’re just not they’re not questioning Puka. Like there’s there’s no questions that need to be answered there. There technically does need to be questions need to be answered about the Seattle Seahawks team. You’re in a position to answer all of them. And I really mean that. All of them in this game. So, I am so fired up for this game. Oh, I’m so fired up for this game. This weekend, we have such great football games. Broncos, Chiefs, Eagles, Lions, Bucks, Bills, Seahawks, Rams. Yes. Thankfully, it’s already Wednesday because then we just got we just got to get through Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Three days. That’s it. Three days and we are going to have box office football. Box office football. Let’s get after it. Those are just my thoughts. I’d absolutely love to hear yours. What do you guys all think about the Seattle Seahawks taking on the Los Angeles Rams? Do you think it’s a must-win for Seattle, must win for LA, must win for neither? 1. This is a legitimate test as to who the Seahawks are and are they at the level to ACTUALLY make a SB run. Go out, intercept Matt a couple of times, run a kick off back for six, and have our D BRING IT!! Sam and the offense will do the rest. There is a reason we are a COMPLETE team. ALL phases (offense, defense, special teams) just need to show up and play.

  2. šŸ’Æ agree Seattle in my eyes come off as a legit team right now but I got to see what they do against a premier team in conference but this game is going to be šŸ”„

  3. I keep hearing this and that about how big and bad Seattles defense is, yet i look at who they have played and the one top level offense they played so far being Tampa Bay, put up 38 on them!! But yall go head with that!!

  4. Not a must win at all 7-3 would still be a fantastic start and great position to being first seed, but your calling it a must win for the public attention which is fine and true for popularity but for the team it’s not.

  5. Yes, the Seahawks look great but let’s pump the brakes a little bit. They lost to the contenders like the Bucs & the 49ers, and beat up on teams like the Saints, the Texans and the Cardinals (twice, so the 2-1 division record). You can point to wins against Pittsburgh and Jacksonville as meaningful wins but those teams look like pretenders. So the media gushing over the Seahawks sounds like a hype over the latest shiny story over Sam Donald. That said, the Seahawks has legit chance to beat the Rams. That’s why they play the game.

  6. Its a great test, but definitionally no it's not even close to a must win game. I cant believe I agree with Nick. It would be great optically. But we will play again in seattle and we will see.

  7. The mental gymnastics are on full display here.

Here are the tangibles that matter.

Both teams are playing exceptional ball. Rams are playing good defense and excellent offense. I think Rams have the better personnel at key positions.

    RB? Rams

    QB? Rams

WR core? Rams (pukas numbers would be higher if he didn't get injured this season, and yes, I do believe he is better and more well rounded than JSN) And Adams, well, he's Adams.

    Coaching? Rams

Defense? Slight, and I mean slight edge to Seahawks

    Special teams? Seahawks

That's how I see it. Objectively.

Seahawks Haven't faced an elite team. And when they have faced good teams, they've been beaten.

Rams have beaten a good team (49ers) and a great team (colts). And it literally came down to a FG against the eagles.

I'll take Stafford and McVay over Darnold and Macdonald 7 days a week, and twice on Sunday.

  8. The Seahawks need to win this game…Personally i want the Seahawks to have the Tiebreaker over the Rams…Maybe JSN Shaheed combo will get the Rams…The Seahawks need to play well this game LA is a tough opponent ! At the Beginning of the season i saw the SEahawks at least 2nd in NFC West and i am a fan of them since 1999 !

  9. Not a must win. I agree that Seattle has more to prove, but it's not a must win for a young team. This is a good stepping stone game. 2025 Seahawks are feeling like the 2012/13 Seahawks.

An established team like the Rams are supposed to win these games at home.

  10. I don't agree its not a must win I rather lose and win at home I dont want the Seahawks to think there the kings I want them to stay hungry and to win when it counts what's the purpose if they win everything but there a one and done in January!!!??? sorry buddy don't agree with you

  11. First off, Rams should be 9-0! Rams will dominate! Seahawks will get smashed! Mack Jones can play by the way! Rams 40 Seahawks? I will be at the game to witness the Rams destroy Seatle!

  12. This comes down to battle of the turnovers. Darnold doesn’t have to outgun Stafford, just not turn the ball over. If Hawks can force even 1 turnover by Stafford and convert it into points they will win. Cards about to lay an egg vs 9ers so they can’t afford an L.

  13. Rams Fan Here

First & foremost- I want to give you credit – One of the BEST reactors I have seen on YouTube

This game is tough for me to even pick because these teams’ strengths play on each other

1- Rams LOVE running 12 & 13 personnel – Ever since Nacua missed 1 game – The Ram’s Offense actually improved quite a bit

They were primarily running 11 personnel but went more to 12 & 13 vs Jacksonville- Worked so well, they kept going with it

Since then 35 points – 34 points – 42 points, while pulling their feet off of the gas late ā° It has looked very easy for them

Some of the reason – They force defenses into base – Big on Big – Then they throw on them – If they go small on defense, the Rams run on them – But Seattle plays the run well in Nickle & Dime (Strength on Strength)

2- McDonald likes to come up with a lot of timed, exotic blitzes – Stafford vs the Blitz this year – 20 TDs, no picks – Over 70% completion rate

    Strength on Strength

Rams 2 loses early in the season – They had a nightmare kicking game (FGs) & were 500 in the Red zone & were still only 2 plays from being undefeated

Since then – New Kicker & former All-Pro Long Snapper – 6/6 kicks last game

New Personnel Groupings: 16/17 in Red Zone (TDs) – Only one they did not score a TD – Offensive Facemask call

    3) Seattle can throw the ball all over the yard – Rams have an excellent pass rush

    Vice Versa

    Strength on Strength

    This game is SOOOOO interesting

Both teams are playing at a high-level

I am not concerned about the 49ers playing good offense against the Rams (They almost always do) – Shanahan & McVey are almost attached at the hipšŸ˜€

I am a Rams fan – Yes – But I have a lot of respect for Coach McDonald & Seattle

This game will be a cat & mouse game between great coaches

I think it will go down to overall QB play in this one

    Darnold & Stafford

What a great game we have in store for us –

  14. Ummm….am I watching you watch some other people talking about football? Hmmmm. And…it's NOT a "Must Win", because there is ONLY one Must Win EVER: That is the game that keeps you IN if you win, puts you OUT if you lose. So, either a game you MUST Win or you will be out of any possibility of making the playoffs, OR an actual Playoff Game. That is, BY DEFINITION, a "Must Win" game. The fact you call Game 11 in a 17-game season a "Must Win" is just Stupid, and Hyperbole. How about toning it down to something Logical, and call it a game that could make a difference later? Or a game that would make the winning team's road to the playoffs a lot easier? Geez! So tired of people who can't do simple math.

  15. Darnold got sacked by the Rams last season in the playoffs 9 times…9 times! I don't see that happening in this game, his O-line is legit. I take the Seahawks to keep rolling on the road.
