Craziest one here is Willie winning Cy Young and MVP as a reliever
Should have been unanimous!
Hopefully he doesn’t end up in jail like McLain.
Denny’s WAR by season is unreal.
In his five seasons before 1968, he had -0.1, 0.2, 4.6, 2.1, and -0.2.
Then, he had 7.2 and 8.1.
He played three more years after 1969. 0.6, -0.4, and -1.8.
And he was out of baseball by age 28.
He has tied Denny McClain for total Cy Youngs (so far), but I’ve always compared him in my mind to the other Tiger stalwart from that era, Mickey Lolich. Both lefties, both big strikeout guys, similar “bulldog builds”, even same jersey number. I was even moved to order a custom T-shirt earlier this year…

Tarik is the American League Cy Young winner for the 2nd straight season after what was a spectacular performance in 2025.

Willie freaking Hernandez man…
Please God don’t let us screw up the Skubs situation and make us watch him win a championship with someone else…PLEASE!
Just throwing it out there as the Cy Young didn’t exist until 1956 but Hal Newhouser won back-to-back MVP’s in 1944 and 1945.
