INSTANT REACTION: Bruins Extend Winning Streak with 5-3 Win Over Maple Leafs

Here’s Mitten in. It goes given away by the leads. Castle centers. Mitten shoots. He scores. How good does that feel? Fraser Mitten takes a sweet dish in the slot and makes it 53 Bruins. [Music] Welcome to Bruins overtime live presented by buyto.com. Profers not seen on TV just to buy a toyota.com with Billy and Barry. I’m Sophia. The Bruins win their sixth straight over one of their rivals, an original six matchup, a total team effort. I’m going to find the video for you guys because I was looked at like I had two heads when I said in preeason they’re going to be fun to watch. They’re going to win close games. They’re not going to win them all, but it’s going to be exciting. And I think we’re looking at a very exciting Bruins team. The last time she said this to us was right after the 3 and 0 start. You remember that? You remember? But I also said in preeason and I think I held it. I’m going to let Uncle Barry go on this. I held it during that losing streak, too. But now they’re riding a six game win streak. I’ll find the video for you guys. Okay. Yeah. But it wasn’t only the win. It was the fact how they won this game. This was their second straight win on the road. Now three and four. six straight winners of seven and eight with all the uh top quality players out of the lineup. For them to be this gritty to go into Toronto on a huge weekend, Billy, for the Hall of Fame and everything else and play as well as I think they have all year long at five on five. They were they were just stifling them and and they took advantage. Yeah, they did. And a little luck. That’s what I’m saying. Took advantage of the luck of this. I mean, they they there were a couple of a few lies, but this was the biggest one. But this is part of the game. I mean, and we all thought like, oh, when he’s selling, we’re like, it must have gone in upper corner and then nope. Not one, but two posts it hits. And then doesn’t hit him on the back side. How indeed. It just didn’t have the spin. I mean, how quickly did he get it up? Crossar post and then it goes across the line and and Knander was so certain that it was in. We’re like, “Oh, come on.” Yeah. This was there. This was um this be this this was a obviously a fun game for us because they win so but this was a highly entertaining game. It got it build up and everything to it and it had a lot of it had something for everybody in this game. You had some great saves. You had a fight. You had a couple of hits. You had you had inseason intensity. Y you don’t always have it like this but we had it in spades in this game. Remember when they were when they’re on that sixgame losing streak and they didn’t have time to practice. So what’ they have to do? You had to watch a lot of video. Well, you know what? You break this game down video and you show the five on five play, the structure, the layers above the puck. Nice reverses on your own end. U coming out the other side, playing with a lot of poise early in that third period. They dominated, you know, they didn’t sit back, they took it to them. It was an entertaining game because I thought it was so fundamentally well played by the Bruins on from the defensive side. Absolutely. and Jeremy Swayman in net. He made 30 saves on 33 shots. So in his last three starts, three and0 seven goals allowed a 920. Yeah. And he had 15 in the third per. Yeah, that was that was key. It was just you knew that Toronto’s going to have a push, Billy. This situation where they’re just a good hockey club. They’re really offensive. They got some gifted players and yes, the Bruins played well defensively, but you know, they’re going to come at you at the third and we had said in the pregame, this is one of those games where you’re going to need your goalie to really help you out when they have so many guys out of their lineup. And man, did he come through get you a few big saves and he did in the third, I’d say out of the 15, six, five, six high danger chances in the third. Um, and he was ultra focused. Every player on this team and where I know we’re showing swaying Pack here, but every player in this team was a catalyst for them. He was in the third period. Okay, not that he wasn’t good in the first and second, but didn’t have to be as much, but in the third when it mattered most, he was as stout as could be. The Bruins were. They got unbelievable efforts in so many ways. and just to be able to to skate out of there. I I’d be really curious. I’m not into the, you know, I’m not a gambler or anything, but I wonder if their line changed or not when it was announced, you know, no Makavoy, no Casey Middlestat, you know, what kind of things changed. I can’t I got to got to imagine that not many people were believing in the Bees. And you know what? Doesn’t matter. They believed in the that was the most belief game they had this year. A lot of they played a lot of confidence. They didn’t sit back. They attacked. They were above the puck. It was just a really good solid road effort. Yeah, we heard during the losing streak, Marco Sturm say a lot that everyone needs to get on the bus. It feels like everyone’s on board. Everyone’s clicking and like you said, they’re working through the things that aren’t working. And things that are, which you guys carry through first intermission and second intermission, Dzone and neutral zone plays by the Watch the way here. This is just third period, folks. These are little plays that end up making a big deal. That’s a good little shield by Lindam that allows for the D to D and then the rim and then an out. I mean that’s that’s beautiful. That’s that’s what coaches love. You got geeked out about that. Not not Morgan there right there. Those little berry those plays we’re sitting there in the in the in the room watching the game are like mark it mark it mark it because a step up now you get support. They’re here up the wall nobody there. And then this play got a little stuck with it though in a situation again where I love I like uh tonight as well. No backing in by the D. They got support and once they got the puck, it wasn’t a flip out. It was a nice tape totape play either to your partner, reverse it up the boards, maybe a a centerman is is supporting you and you’re getting momentum coming out. You’re keeping possession of the puck. Yeah. And they didn’t self-inflict wounds with bad plays in their own like like lazy plays. What you’re talking about the flip out. How about a few times we’ve seen in games past backhand passes up the wall, middle ice. Look at the plays here again. Things to the outside. Sophia guys sealing the wall. Guys not, you know, not wasting time with the puck. Look at that deep right there below. Textbook defense by a guy who often plays that way in Pavle Zaka. stick was to the inside, not in the skates. Make sure that the lane to the middle is covered. If the guy’s going to pull back, go the other way. He can turn and go the other way. We’ve seen Pavle do that before. Beautiful little end of the the the highlight pack there. Some people might look at it and say, “Why are they showing that for?” That to me is one of the biggest differences right there. That that’s why we’re showing it. Those details, you add those up, you’ve got Bill the attention to detail, being above the puck, making the simple play when it’s there. If there’s no play, don’t make it. and they had a couple of opportunities, you know, getting over the offensive blue line. Okay, I’m going to turn up, no plate, get it in the corner and then get your your fourchecking wheels going again. Speaking of beautiful moves, David Poshock in the second period. Uh, carrying the puck all the way through, guys. Getting goal number 399 in his Yeah, this was a nice play by Lindholm coming out of the zone as well. He does a good job winning a battle. Then Lindholm throws it up to Posa. He goes one-on-one on Benois and it’s like, okay. And then gets a little bit of that luck right in there, Billy. close. But uh that’s what they call a world class inside outside move, right? What a move. See how he uses the toe curve to his right there? Oh my goodness. To his benefit and he he just has the uncanny ability. He reads Benois coming towards him right there. You see how he’s leaning? So see how he leans forward a little? As soon as he gets him off, as soon as he gets that skate moving, he then brings it back from the outside in because the defenseman’s weight has now gone over his knees, he’s leaning forward. So now he can bring it back through him and he has no there’s no gap for the D. He Ben can’t close the skates there fast enough. And so Posternok takes it outside in as Barry said and I agree with you. A little luck. It was like almost like Stallars who was still in at that time just couldn’t couldn’t get track or something. Yum.

The Bruins extend their 6-game win streak with a 5-3 win over the Maple Leafs. Sophia, Billy, and Barry react to the win on Bruins Overtime Live!

  1. That Minten insurance goal was nice. Hildeby drops down right at the point the pass from Kastelic to Minten was made, unable to get himself back up and Minten top shelfs it.

  2. I said before this 5 set of games started that if the B' get 7 of the 10 points of the 5 games against teams of the same division it would be a great measuring stick….so far 4 points (against Ottawa and Toronto), next three against (Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal) look like 4 points are doable!

  3. The team is missing a goalie and a defense that is worldclass.
You can exchange Matthews/Nylander with Draisaitl/McDavid and it makes NO DIFFERENCE.
Nylander is the star. Matthews as well. The rest are not contenders. Period.

  4. 2 maybe half of the 3rd season Pasta will pass Bucyk for most goals. If he didn’t evolve his game to where he sets up everyone then he would be ovi 2.0. Geekie/Pasta are tied for the 2nd most goals behind Draisaitl in past 2 years I believe and he has McJesus
