Kon Knueppel Will Become A SUPERSTAR In Charlotte!

Conan nipples a star and it seems like he’s transitioning to the NBA level seamlessly and my goodness it’s a fun watch. Last three games 24 points against the Jazz, 20 points against the Pelicans, 30 points against Miami. He’s averaging 16.4 points per game and obviously his main attraction is his three-point shooting. He’s putting up 8.2 three-pointers per game. Insane volume for a rookie. 40.5% from three. and he’s doing it in multiple ways. In transition, moving off the ball after a ghost screen. He’s also had some success on the basketball, off a screen, right into a jumper, even some stepbacks here and there. He’s not just a stationary, you know, floor spacing shooter. This dude is dynamic. You can run him off screens. Pretty much any possible scenario you can think of, he has the potential to catch and get it up right away. And there’s a good chance of that shot going in. So obviously that’s the base of his game because defenders have to respect that shot and as a result that gets him in the paint and things of that nature. But don’t get it twisted, he’s not just a three-point shooter. And this is what really makes me believe that he’s going to be an allstar moving forward sooner rather than later each and every season. I want to dig deeper into his successful last three games where he’s averaging nearly 25 points per game efficiently. You look at him in the paint, he’s shooting 87.5% from the field and overall this season 61.5%. That’s good for 87th percentile as I’m recording this video. Those two spots are carrying him right now. Efficient basketball from the three-point line and the paint. The mid-range has been a struggle and the restricted area as well. Immediately when you watch film consistently, you will see he’s starting out as a screener or a ghost screener where he’s slipping to the perimeter. Look at the respect he’s getting as a rookie at the three-point line. That aggressiveness bites the defender in the booty cheeks. It allows Khan to get a slight edge. It’s not a lot, but that’s all he needs. And now you see a superstar trait. He slows up. And now the contest goes by. Nothing but net. For NBA standards, he’s not the most athletic, but he counters that by being one of the craftiest rookies in the NBA right now. Again, a nice screen sets him up with an advantage. Now he’s catching in the paint, but he doesn’t have the athleticism to rise up over the defense. So he fakes the shot because it was an obvious shooting situation. Fender bites and then he fakes the pass to the wideopen guy in the corner. And now all of a sudden he has clear sight on the rim with barely any contest. Now what I’m about to say is going to sound crazy at first, but let me explain. One of his biggest strengths right now is his quickness. You probably raised your eyebrow or something. And I’m not talking about like the Tyrese Maxi Darren Fox speed with the basketball. I’m talking about the quick decisionmaking. He does everything with a purpose off the basketball. If he’s not spacing the floor, he’s quickly screening and making the right decision whether to flare or go to the middle or roll. And he’s doing that immediately. And when he catches a pass, it’s the same exact thing. 0.1 seconds, he’s passing to the next guy or he’s driving hard to the rim or he’s just catching and shooting. The ball does not stick to him. And that’s the beauty of Khan Canipple. He really fits perfectly in a team oriented system that is based on ball movement and player movement. He really is a coach’s dream. Although the Charlotte Hornets are going to call plays for him with this type of production, you don’t have to. He’s going to get his in the natural flow of the game. He doesn’t stop the basketball. And because of his size and play style, you don’t have to worry about him fitting next to a certain player. No, Khan Canipo works with any archetype. Whether they can’t shoot, whether they need the basketball 24/7, he’s that perfect connective piece. But the thing about him, he can do that while giving you star level production. That right there is truly one of the most underrated traits to have in the NBA as a star. I mean, just take a look at this second quarter against Utah. They just spammed Khan Canipple as a screener. And if they paid more attention to the ball handler, there’s Khan on the short roll and he makes the right play, makes the right pass. I really do believe a cheat code in the NBA for having an elite offense is having as many willing screeners as possible. Most nonenters when, you know, their coach tells them to screen. You could tell, you know, they kind of go through the motions. It’s no con. You could tell he’s extremely engaged and he knows this is how I’m going to get an advantage and this is how I leverage not being as athletic as everyone else. And it’s not just about him gaining an advantage. It’s about the team. He’s a winning player and lately he’s making a crazy impact. So throughout the whole entire season, despite the Hornets having a 3 and6 record as I’m recording this video, they actually have won his minutes by four points. Not crazy, but that’s just good to see. And then when you dig deeper into his last three games where he’s been unreal, 108 minutes, they’ve been a plus 24 with him on the court, plus 10.2 net rating, 118.7 offensive rating, 108.5 defensive rating. And then look at the numbers with him off the court. Just 36 minutes, -23, -29.9 rating, 102.6 offensive rating. That goes down drastically. And the defense also goes up 132.5 defensive rating. And also notice 65.6 assist percentage when he’s on the floor and it drops down to 43.5% when he’s off the court to start the NBA season. Everyone thought that Cooper Flag was going to coast to the Rookie of the Year award. But my goodness, we got a tight race. And I’m going to be real, I think VJ Edgecom and Conanipple are the leaders right now. That’s all I got though. I want to hear your thoughts below. And if you enjoyed, leave a like and subscribe. Thank you very much.

  1. Full disclaimer; i am biased as a Duke and Hornets fan. Kon was my favorite player at Duke all of last season. People get so caught up in measurables and potential they forget to just watch the game. Kon reminds me of Paul Pierce, he is the truth. He has such a deep bag when it comes to craftiness and the shot is money. I was elated when the Hornets drafted him. He truely has IT and just let everyone keep sleeping on him.

  2. Honestly I’m pretty blown away. I was worried about his translation to the nba… primarily his ceiling. But I feel like now he probably was underrated for his contributions to the winningness of Duke.
