Aaron Rodgers Media Availability (Nov. 12) | Pittsburgh Steelers

why you weren’t able to have the night you guys wanted to have an offense. Third down wasn’t very good. Uh, you know, we were over for our first, I don’t know, eight or nine it seemed like. So, that uh that put us in uh, you know, behind a ball. Obviously, field position didn’t help. But when you’re backed up, you got to get a first down and a couple first downs to shift that. We didn’t do that. Turn the ball over too many times. You look at the third down struggles. Is there a common thread or something you guys have worked on during the week to kind of correct some of what’s been going wrong? Yeah, there’s some things we can work on for sure. What are some not going to tell you about you guys overcoming throws to beat you? What do you feel like the capability for this team to counter the different things that teams throw at you guys weeks? I have a lot of confidence in our ability to counter whatever anybody throws our way. Would you like to see some more Jaylen third down? Yeah, I’d love to see Jaylen on first, second, or third down, but I’d love seeing Kenny on first, second, third down, too. So, we got luxury of those two guys. I think we need to keep getting uh Jaylen more more runs on first, second down and mix them in on third down, but Kenny’s done a great job on third down for us. Aaron, you’ve had, you know, rough games before your career has. What have you learned over the last 20 years in terms of making sure one bad performance doesn’t lead to bad? Uh it’s just consistency. If the if the process is right, you know, you don’t have to make any major changes or freak out. It’s you know, it’s the nature of the league. There’s going to be a you know, a stinker every now and then. You just got to you know, bounce back, get back to the things you do, get back in your routine and and try and be better the next week. Why do you what do you think it was? What do you talk it up to the bad game? Well, they got a good defense. You know, they they uh they clamped us down and and a couple of throws I usually hit I missed. I think that’s kind of the main reason back in play in your face. One of you go. You go then you go. Johnny, would you like to get the ball to Johnny a little bit more potentially? I’d like to get the ball to anybody as open. Does it help that you’re going back into play than playing somebody you just played three four weeks ago? Well, there’s always a familiarity when you’re playing in your division. Um, they had a week off, so usually when you play a team off a buy, there’s some wrinkles, so there’ll be some unscattered looks, I’m sure. But at this point in the season, you’re trying to run your your best stuff, and they’re trying to run their best stuff. At this point, you’ve had MBS in the in practice for a week. What do you think, as far as learning the offense and kind of fitting into what you guys are doing? Uh, that’s a good question for Arthur. You know, I think that he’s a smart guy. Uh he’s spent a lot of time studying, but uh you know, we we got to get him more reps with the first team to see where he’s at. When it comes to attacking downfield, obviously they’re doing some things to try to take some of that away, but when you have opportunities, how do you evaluate the execution in those situations? What do you mean? I’m saying when you have opportunities to throw the ball down field, how do you think that that process is going? Well, you got to look at every single one individually and uh what the route was, what the throw was, what the coverage was, what the protection was. So, you know, unless you get specific, I can’t tell you exactly what give you an answer exactly what you’re probably looking for. What can you say about the concerted effort a lot of teams are throwing in to double up on DK that there were plays where safety from the opposite side of the field was coming down on him fast and hard and how you guys have to counter? Yeah, other guys got to get open and make plays because, you know, DK is a super talented guy, but we haven’t been able to get him targets that we want to because he’s getting doubled every third down, every third down basically. Kind of going off of that, Tomman said that he’s open to the possibility of MBS potentially playing here soon. Uh do you echo that sentiment or I mean, I love MBS. We got a lot of history together. Uh if he’s ready and he’s shown in practice that he’s got a grasp of the offense and I’m sure they’ll put him out there. Um, but I got a lot of confidence in the way Roman has developed and Calvin. Um, Scotty’s coming back from an injury, so we’ll see what his availability is like. But yeah, if NVS is out there, I’d feel comfortable uh because I play with him a lot of snaps. What does Scotty do so well? I mean, you’ve given him a lot of compliments whenever he play a lot of confidence to me. Gives me reason to trust him. No, he runs and he catches. I mean, he runs fast and he catches the ball. But he’s unselfish guy and he’s super smart. you know, he knows his scheme and understands where he fits on all the progressions. Mike Thomas said in the past Pat’s particularly proficient as a tight end against so defenses. You guys are great success against Cincinnati with Pat last time out. Um, is that one game in glove there? Is that part of the reason why or is there something else that lends to Pat’s success against? I feel like he had more reps that game and more opportunities to be in the progression uh early in the progression. Um, so I think I was a big part of it, but uh, I mean, Pat’s a really smart player and we got to keep finding ways to get him on the field. You know, Darnell has been a big part of our success, you know, but we got to give Pat some more opportunities, too, and maybe both of them out there at the same time. Was that potentially a breakout play for Roman? Oh, I don’t know about that. I mean, I think it’s a good play, but I think the play the adjustment he made in in Green Bay was was a better play than that one. He just kind of ran the route and caught it and ran fast. But, you know, to me, the better play was in Green Bay when he had a go route and just kind of broke his route off and pointed to the middle of the field and made a made a contested catch. Chris Collins were said on the broadcast that Mike and Arthur wanted to move Darnell to tackle and he stopped them and wanted to leave him at tight end. Is that how that went down? Is that your recollection? That’s not my recollection at all. No. Anyone else? Aaron, you know, you talk about the attention DK gets it nine games in now. You’ve had other guys step up intermittently, but the defense has have not stopped giving DK that attention. Is this just maybe how it’s going to be all season? Yeah, I would expect him to. DK is a been a receiver. You know, he’s a he’s a dominant player. Uh, and we need to find ways even when he’s getting doubled to uh to give him more targets. But when they double him the way they double him the other night, there’s not as many opportunities as you might think. Does that come down to needing to drop more different ways to isolate him to drop more opportunities right out of the board or do you think it is more about you guys just needing to be able to execute better in the route running and getting close? I think it’s all that. Yeah, it’s all that. What do you What was the conversation or just what how do you help Roderick Jones? It seemed like early on he gave up a few early pressures and you know moments that kind of ruined some third down opportunities. What do you say as a guy that called protections and what they can what you guys can do to improve up front? Well, I don’t care, you know, who’s playing left tackle or right tackle. You know, it’s always nice to give those guys some uh some chip help from time to time. So, you know, maybe we we help those guys out on the road at home with our cadence. You know, you expect uh uh the defense to to not be able to get the same kind of jump off the ball, but um you know, I’m proud of the way Broadick has played the last seven, eight games. I think he’s played really solid.

  1. Bench him and start Will Howard. The season is over for the Steelers so it would make sense to give him the reps to prepare for the next season. Hopefully Tomlin and Rodgers will be gone by then.

  2. Can someone explain Jaylen he’s one of the best in multiple stats across all RBs but he’s getting out snapped by gainwell?? No sense made.. Peyton should be on the field more as well

  3. I’m done with the Steelers just blow it up at this point. “The standard is the standard” doesn’t mean anything anymore, and Tomlin’s version of it clearly isn’t what Steelers Nation believes in. It’s time to move on, hope we finally find a real quarterback, and admit that our defense is old and inconsistent. It’s sad watching games knowing exactly how the season will end with another non losing season, maybe a lucky playoff berth, and then an inevitable first-round exit. Tomlin is a good leader, but the league has passed his style. There’s no offensive identity, no modern scheme, no quarterback development, constant coordinator chaos, and a defense that flashes but can’t carry a broken offense. He’s kept the floor high, but the ceiling is completely gone. Steelers fans aren’t even demanding a Super Bowl every year but some direction, a plan, something that resembles a good modern NFL team. Instead, we get the same exhausting cycle over and over… start slow, win ugly, finish 9–8, hear “proud but not satisfied,” lose early in the playoffs, and repeat.

  4. Aaron is pretty much a jerk. He's also well past his prime. Won't retire because his ego is too big…. can't handle not being the center of attention…..not going to end well for him or the Steelers this year

  5. Get an above average WR2 and Pittsburgh Steelers offense will be one of the top offenses in NFL. The issue is defenses can double team DK Metcalf just like they double teamed Pickens last year. You have to have two above average WR’s who get get seperation and get open. A simple Wes Welker type WR gets the job done! Diontae Johnson is Wes Welker type route running WR. Give Aaron Rodgers Diontae Johnson speed and seperation from defender and offense can be reason Steelers win games and win in the playoffs! Forget the missed fumble. Diontae gets open! One of the best in NFL at seperation! That is all Aaron Rodgers needs!

  6. Arod is 41 and making $10 million and taken some hits already with a C minus offensive line. Expecting him to play perfect every week is too much. Time for other guys on the offense to step up and start making some big plays.
