I remember hoping the same for Greg McElroy in 2011. My dad remembers hoping the same for Richard Todd in 1977.
This sub’s slow transition to being pro-Simpson is going to be fun to watch. He’s QB1, and as the draft becomes more and more of a media focus you’ll hear more and more pundits call him QB1. His word ain’t gospel, but everybody’s favorite Connor looks at Mendoza as a late-r1 guy and below the caliber of Cam Ward. I like Mendoza fine, but Simpson has better tape than any other QB (both draft eligible and not) in 2025.
Suck for Sam
Too few starts. He either needs to go back to school for another year, or he needs to get drafted by a team that can sit him on the bench for a year or so behind an established QB. We made this same mistake when we drafted Mark Sanchez.
I feel so bad for this kid. Hopefully he can pull a Sam too once the shit show is over here.
Does it even matter?
Lmao The pedo, magat, 25 years of losing, fuckwad Johnsons are still running the show.
I love Simpson, but he’ll most likely stay another year tho. He’s close friends with Ryan Williams and Simpsons brother might end up at Alabama
This is like the Zach Wilson experiment all over again. He has started like 8 college games. Also concerned about his size. He is 6’2 but that is trending on the smaller side for an NFL QB these days(not saying thats everything but for a pocket passing QB the best ones are usually 6’4 to 6’5 while those with more mobility can get away with being around 6’2.). Also his 66% completion ratio is almost 10% higher than the average of all his other appearances(only 45 attmps) but a huge year over year discrepancy.
Compared with Mendoza who has a 71% completion percentage which is only up 3% from last year in just about 600 combined attempts. Mendoza is the better prospect full stop. He has played at a high level for multiple years at the college level, he has the protypical size, is highly accurate, and has shown he has the ability to respond to adversity again tough opponents.
I am not saying Simpson will be bad – he may even eventually be a better QB, but Mendoza just has all the tools you see in the pro typical successful NFL pocket passer and has built upon a previously good season last year which shows he is able to learn, develop and make progress. There are just too many questions about Simpson at this point for me given his small sample size.
I hope not, he couldn’t even take over the job at Bama last year when Milroe was struggling and turning it over like crazy, he has the 2nd best WR in college football and can’t even get him to put up crazy numbers, most of his best games were against powderpuff teams, and he doesn’t really look special to me.
Simpson:
Best QB in this draft class. Yes, I am concerned about his lack of experience but you can pick apart QB’S in every draft and find issues with them. Case for Simpson over others….
1. Best at quick processing and decision making. I would argue this is most important attribute for any QB.
2. Best at throwing ball in traffic and down middle of field
3. Is doing this in SEC and without much of a running game.
There are a couple of guys, Herbstreit and Mcshay, who know and have seen them more than us, who feel Simpson should be the first QB taken.
The Jets could also wait until 27 draft.
Wait for Sayin
We just will never learn will we🤦♂️
Do not draft a QB this draft….
If we do draft a QB… do not be afraid to take a QB next year too. Dont let this become another “we skipped on Deshaun and Mahomes cause we took Hackenberg last year” situation.
Gonna ruin another qb
Like what I’ve seen from Simpson more than Mendoza or Sellers. No disrespect to the other two but I dont really see how Mendoza is this clear frontrunner when Simpson is balling at Bama.
I want to believe that, but I believe they will inexplicably win one or two more games late in the season. This will pipe bomb their own tank, and banish the poor lad to the shadow realm know as Cleveland.
