This Is A DISASTER For The Padres…

This is a disaster for the Padres’s as ownership has announced something huge that will literally change the entire fate of the team. No, I’m not exaggerating. Let’s talk about it. Hi, welcome back to another episode of Padres’s Digest with your host Andrew. Today we have some maybe unfortunate news, maybe positive news. I guess it depends on how you look at it, but honestly, it kind of sucks and I’ll explain why in a bit. Before we get too deep into it though, please subscribe as always. So, a lot of you probably checked your email today and saw something very distressing, maybe unexpected, maybe very expected. Again, it depends on how you feel. But, as you see, the Sidler family is exploring a sale of the Padres’s. Does exploring mean outright they’re going to do it? I don’t know. But we’ll read some things like articles. We’ll read the actual message from the email if you haven’t already and I’ll let you guys formulate your opinions. But let’s just say after and I’ll have some images to show you about this and all that tweets and stuff, but after what everything was said about Peter Sidler wanting to keep the team in his family and then also please apply if you’d like and then now we’re seeing that they’re going to sell what Peter said were always going to stay in the pod in their family. It kind of sucks. It kind of sucks, right? This has been an inevitable and likely outcome since Peter’s passing and ensuing lawsuit. It happened a bit sooner than I expected, but I hope they do write by the fans who have been extraordinarily supportive. And this was uh pinned to the email that was sent. So, let me just show you guys or read to you guys what the email said. If you already read the email, feel free to skip ahead a little bit. To our faithful fans, I want to share with you that the family has decided to begin a process of evaluating our future with the Padres’s, including a potential sale of the franchise. We will undertake this process with integrity and professionalism in a way that honors Peter’s legacy and love for the Padres’s and lays the foundation for the franchise’s long-term success. During the process and as we prepare for the 2026 season, the Padres’s will continue to focus on putting every resource into winning a World Series championship. We remain fully committed to you, this team, and the San Diego community. We’re also committed to finding a new steward for the franchise who shares Peter’s vision, continue the field, a consistently competitive team, and win a World Series championship for San Diego. We have every expectation that the new owner will build on the momentum we have built together and operate the franchise in a ballpark in a first class manner the way our current leadership team does. I want to thank you for your faithful support of the Padres’s. We are fortunate and grateful to have such an amazing fans. Before we get too deep into it, it’s a pet peeve of mine when people say a World Series championship. Like when you say World Series, it’s implied that it’s the championship. That’s besides the point. Uh but I don’t know it obviously if if it reeks of corporate like uh speechness I guess or just corporate words like it doesn’t I don’t know whenever I read stuff like that it just never feels like sincere you know what I mean maybe it is I don’t know maybe I’m reading too much into it or not reading enough into it but I don’t know honestly I don’t know exactly how to feel right now uh all I know is that I miss Peter Sidler. Uh, so let’s just read some stuff. First thought, good. The Sidler brothers brothers would have run the franchise into the ground eventually. Second, sell to someone with deep pockets. And who would and who cares? And who cares? And third, Peter Sidler would be disgusted with how this has all gone down over the last year. And I absolutely agree with that. So before we get too too too deep into it, I thought I could read you some parts from the Kevin AC article. Not the full thing, but just some parts. So, the Sidler family stewardship of the Padres’s appears to be headed to a close. The team announced Thursday that the Siders are exploring their strategic options, which could result in the sale of part of or all of the team. The announcement comes one day shy of exactly two years after I didn’t even know that. Oh my god. Ex comes one day shy of exactly 2 years after Peter Sidler died. This exploration is expected to result in a change in ownership, which would bring to an end the era that has seen the Padres’s achieve unprecedented success and popularity. But the spectre of a sale has hovered over the franchise since Peter Sidler’s death on November 14th, 2023. And especially since she Sidler, Peter Sidler’s widow, filed a lawsuit in January that challenged control of the team. Makes me sad. It honestly, it makes me really sad. The Padres’s ownership group includes at least 10 people or entities. The largest stake around 24% is held by the Peter Sidler Trust of which Sheil Shidler and their three young children are the beneficiaries of. The Sidler family including Peter Sidler’s mother, siblings, and other relatives collectively controls about 20% of the team. The remaining portion of the ownership is split between 8 to 10 other separate stakeholders. John Sidler, Peter Sidler’s eldest brother and the trustee of his trust, was approved by the other 29 MLB team owners as Padres’s control person in February. At the time, multiple team owners said they did not consider Shield Sidler a qualified option to be the Padres’s control person. And then just one more. It is not known how much of the team will ultimately be available for purchase. a minority owner whose stake of of approximately 10% makes him one of the franchis’s largest single shareholders is currently in the process of selling his portion of the Padres’s. According to sources, the price for these types of prestige purchases are difficult to predict. The price is ultimately whatever a buyer is willing to pay. However, sources on Thursday said that the recent MLB team sales have been completed for approximately 5.5 times a team’s annual revenue. One source placed the Padres’s revenue at about $500 million. The sale of the Padres’s would include the the assumption of about $300 million in debt and more than $150 million in paybacks to owners for the two cash infusions made in recent years. So, it’d be expensive and whoever needs to buy it obviously has to be rich enough to afford that. But I still don’t know how to feel. I mean, if they don’t want to have the team, sell it, right? Like I want someone who wants the Padres’s, you know what I mean? Like I want someone who wants the full responsibility. I want someone who embraces the city, embraces the culture. I want someone who gives a You know what I mean? And if that’s not John Sidler, fine. Ariadachi, is that how you say it? I don’t know. But I have a lot of Twitter reactions I want to show you guys. Uh, and we’ll we’ll react to them. But honestly, the big thing you have to know is that John Sidler does not want to be the owner of the Padres’s. And we’re going to sell not the whole team. I mean, we’ll sell the way it makes it seem like they’re going to sell a good chunk of the team, but there’s going to still going to be like some control left over from the past, if that makes sense. Uh, but again, read the whole article if you’d like. I’m sure it explains a lot better than I would. Uh, I’ll put a little link or something down below or I’ll forget to, but we’ll see. Anyways, Peter talked all the time about leaving the team and his family for generations and they disregarded his wish within two years of his tragic passing. pretty heartbreaking, honestly. Yeah, I it makes me really sad. Honestly, I’m not ashamed to admit I cried a little bit. And by a little bit, I mean a lot when Peter died because I feel like Peter was really the first person to ever genuinely care about the city, about the team, about the Padres’s. And literally all he wanted was for us to win a championship. And we couldn’t do it when he was alive. And then 2024 when we had the literal patch on our shirts, and by ours, I mean their shirts, and we couldn’t do it then. couldn’t do it this year and then now we’re selling the team. Like it’s hard. It sucks and I really wish we could have gotten that gotten him that championship. But baseball is a tough sport. Life is a hard thing. Can’t always get what you want. But we we can still hope and pray. You know what I mean? There will never be another file fire sale in San Diego. I expect my family to own the franchise for another 50 75 years. Hopefully go for more. I’ll talk from the grave. Padres’s owner, Peter Sidler, at SBJ World Congress of Sports. That was from two years ago. Uh, well, we know now that did not happen. It’s not sold yet, obviously, but it sounds like it’s pretty much I don’t say a done deal that they’re going to sell, but it’s more than likely. Let’s put it that way. And then Boob Nightingale, who pisses me off. Uh, I’m gonna tell you right now, in no way in hell was this like previous knowledge that he knew. I think he’s just attributing his like past words and applying it to what the news is now, if that makes sense. So, he’s basically trying to profit off of this news and screw you for that. This is why rival GMs believe at some point in the future, Padres’s will be looking to move some of their long-term contracts. We’re not. We’re not. Maybe like 5 years from now, sure, whatever. But we’re not. You’re full of Shut up. Uh, but yeah, first round playoff exit. She’ll retire. 39-year-old Darvish elbow out for the season. Uh, and he won’t retire. Team might be sold. And I don’t have the picture, but it’s Trevor Hoffman looking sad, and we’re all like Trevor Hoffman right now. But suddenly, the delay in getting AJ Peller’s deal done makes a whole lot more sense because we don’t know who’s going to take over ownership. And then the last thing, the loss of the TV deal has done so much damage to the Padres’s and other teams, insane that there isn’t a revenue sharing in place so smaller teams can actually compete financially. And yeah, the TV deal I remember a couple months ago we talked about how ESPN wanted to acquire the rights to the to TVs or the teams that didn’t have TV deals. I don’t think it ever got finalized, so I don’t actually know if it’s going through, but we’ve lost a lot of money low-key from the fact that Ballet Sports went under and we’re basically ran, well, we’re not basically ran, we are ran by MLB, uh, TV wise. So, baseball’s a hard sport. And while teams can win back-to-back World Series because they spend a criillion dollars on offseason because they have the money. They’re in a big market. They have a huge TV deal. Uh, and I know baseball is kind of a crapshoot in the playoffs, but let’s be honest, when you saw the playoffs, you had a good idea, especially during the NCS, that one team was a lot more overpowered than the other team. But that’s besides the point. So, I have some just reactions from Twitter people, people you might recognize, people you might not recognize, but I thought we should just go through them real quick if you want. Uh, if you don’t, feel free, but committed to finding a new steward for the franchise who shares Peter’s vision. My butt was always about the money. Low-key agree. I feel like they cared more about the money than they did about the team, but that’s just my own opinion. Love that Sidler decided that Sheil, the only one of them with a real emotional attachment to the Padres’s and desire to win, was unfit to be the control person. And less than two years later, they’re selling the team after cutting payroll and being cheap as hell. The Sidlers have operated with solely their own self-interest in mind. The entire time since Peter died, the whole thing is truly despicable. They lied to us and used Peter’s image to sell it. I am just getting more and more upset the more I think of this. Despicable people. Don’t owners have to approve of the new owner through a vote? Yes, they do. The pessimistic side of me feels like the other owners won’t allow another Steve Cohen. Steve Cohen is the GM for the or the owner for the Mets, and the Mets spend a crap ton of money to win games, and they didn’t even make the playoffs. Uh, so that’s really funny, but basically, they’re saying they don’t want another money hungry spending owner. Uh, makes me miss Peter so much, man. We were so lucky to have him. He seemed like a good person in real life, too. He didn’t seem like one. He was a good person in real life. Obviously, I didn’t know him personally, but just from everything I’ve seen, read, and all that, like you could tell he was that honors Peter’s legacy. Same guy who wanted his wife and children involved in Padres’s ownership for years to come. Freaking Leech. Uh, obviously talking about John, not Peter. Uh, and then we saw the Peter Sidler way streak getting made. Imagine putting this publicity stunt and then announcing you’re selling the team not even two weeks later while upholding Peter’s legacy. absolutely soulless, despicable, awful, and infuriating. And then just one more. Uh, Peters and Sheil and their children are rightful owners of the San Diego Padres’s via the Pet Peter Sidler Trust. Never forget that John Sidler had zero zero business acumen and was placed as chairman by the other Nepo brothers. You can read that bottom part if you want. I don’t want to hear the words Peter’s vision from this organization ever again. Less than two years after his passing and his family has betrayed his wishes. This freaking sucks, dude. This could actually be a good thing. It’s been clear since Peter passed away that the Sidler brothers have no intentions to carry out their brother’s vision. Uh, the Padres’s have probably doubled in value since Peter took over. It will take someone who has deep pockets to buy the team. Sheil was right and the family lied when Jon said the team isn’t being sold. I was always leerary about Jon and the racist brothers that attack, but this still speaks to the mystery around Peller’s extension and hiring and praying and fasting lackey like stammon. It just makes me sad honestly. All the Peter stuff I’m reading this just makes me really sad. I the only the worst case scenario and I don’t think it’ll happen because San Diego is a big market and like fan base wise but the worst thing is we get moved to Montreal somehow and if that happens Chargers left, Clippers left, Padres’s left. Like why would you want to do that to a city like us? Why would you want to do that to us? But we’ll see. I I don’t want to get too sad already. I don’t want to get my hopes too down. We’ll see what happens. But all I can hope for is that AJ can settle in, start making the moves to get the Padres’s back into the playoffs and hopefully much deeper. But news like this, I feel like every offseason Padres’s just have horrible news now. And it just makes me really sad as a fan. But I’ll let you guys tell me how you feel. Do you think it’s a good thing? Do you think it’s a bad thing? Do you think they betrayed Peter Sidler or do you think just tell me what you think? I want to hear zero Peter slander, though. If I see any Peter slander, I’m deleting the ever living crap out of your comment. None of it. I will not allow any of it. But yeah, thank you guys so much for watching. Uh, please subscribe and I don’t know, go Padres’s. One day the baseball gods will smile upon us. Thank you for watching. Goodbye.

  1. Im confused, like I understand the team might be sold, but what does that mean? are we still a san diego team? are they getting stripped from san diego or is there just a different owner?

  2. When you get investment groups it never goes well. Even the family became like one. Without the single force and spirit of an owner like Pete, there is no heart and soul.

  3. Peter Seidler was the best thing to happen to the Padre because he was willing to spend money and had a vision but the rest of the Seidler family wants out. Goodbye and good riddance. Please find a new ownership group that cares about the Padres and the city of San Diego. this city deserves a World Series title.

  4. So let's really dial in on this sequence of events.

The Seidler brothers stole the team from Sheel because "Peter wanted us to have it, keep it in the family."

Then the Seidler brothers committed to a World Series ring because "It's what Peter wanted"

Then the Seidler brothers slowly started to siphon resources

Then the Seidler brothers punted the future of the team with a jank Manager hire

Now the Seidler brothers want to sell the team.

Cool beans, I think we're gonna be better off without the Seidler brothers involved at all. They must've really hated Peter to treat his legacy like this.

  5. This does really speak to the inconsistency of the players.

Does anyone think that clubhouse was blind to this kinda asshole leadership? I probably wouldn't be consistent either knowing my entire leadership team is tryin to fill their pockets with my future before rushin the door.

Manny just got a lot more grace than he had a week ago.
